My husband and I ate there on a Tuesday and Wednesday morning we both became ill. My husbands lasted a day while mine lasted 8 days before I went into urgent care. We both had salmonella from this place. I later found out they had their sewer system backup and had a plumber come in and snake it. The plumber tried putting up a barrier while he was working but the employees became mad and had them take the barrier down. While the plumber used the cable to fix the sewer system the cooks continued to prep and make food 3 feet away! I will never go in there again! We got salmonella from here and their irresponsibly caused me 4 weeks of work, massive hospital bills, and my kidneys and liver were starting to shutdown due to the bacterial contamination. read more

One of those restaurants that still brings free chips and salsa to your table. We were greeted when entering and it went downhill from there. We are spoiled by Arandas in DeForest that has excellent Mexican food. We received a basket of free chips and salsa along with our beverage. We ordered steak fajita and carnitas which arrived in an average amount of time. We sat there for a few minutes looking at each other because we were not given any tableware. After a few minutes my husband went to The server station and grabbed us some utensils to eat with. When we finished we waited again for a bit and since my husband had the routine down he went to the server station and grabbed us a couple takeout boxes for our leftovers. After we packed up and still had not seen our server we went to the register and told the cashier what we had ordered, paid and left. I like to give a place a second chance but The food was not that spectacular to bring me Back again. Update - I did go back for lunch with a girlfriend and the service was better and the food was better. But both times At lunch the place was not As hopping as It Could Be. Still-there were 4 waiters scrunched in a booth on another side of the restaurant chatting it up when they could have been a little more attentive to customers especially checking out. Holy smokes, you get A LOT of food here!!! I had a pina colada, which was $5 and came with whipped cream and sprinkles - yes sprinkles! I ordered a combination plate for lunch... I had chile rellano, chicken enchilada, chicken tamale, chicken tostada, and beans. I was super hungry and took at least half of my meal home. The stand-out items were the chile rellano (which was very cheesy and vegetarian) and the tostada. The enchilada was really good too. The tamale was my least favorite - it was quite bland and nothing special. The thing with the combination plates is that you can only order 1 of each item listed, and rice and beans counts for 2 items if rice and beans is your thing... However, it was reasonably priced ($8ish for the 5 item combination). The first basket of chips and salsa is complimentary, but we asked for more as there were 6 people in our group and were charged an additional $2.95... not something I see very often especially with a larger group. The waiter was very nice and had a few tables that he was waiting on during our visit. He definitely did his best to keep up - especially with all the food my family ordered! I don't understand all the great reviews for this place, unless we got there on a really bad day. The food was terrible! Service wasn't great either. We both ordered Combination platters. I ordered first, two chicken tacos, a beef enchilada and a bean tostada. My husband ordered Quesadilla, tostada, enchilada and taco. She asked HIM what kind of shell for the taco and what he wanted on it. I realize she hadn't asked me--so I asked what kind of tack I was getting. She said soft flour tortilla right? WRONG! The ground beef was boiled--with no spices, no sauce, nothing--just plain, dry, tasteless ground beef. Yuck. The enchilada sauce had NO flavor either--it was like red water. The tostada was ok--piled high with stuff--but the refried beans were watery and absolutely no flavor--not even salted! But the chicken taco? I had to draw the line. The meat was watery and not only bland as heck--but tasted like very bland dog food covered in dishwater! It was so disgusting I couldn't eat it at all. My husband's "cheese quesadilla"? It was a cold flour tortilla with a tiny knot of white melted cheese in in the center and folded. WHAT???? It wasn't grilled, the cheese only covered about 10% of the tortilla. And this item cost over $3?? When I complained--gently at first--the waitress was rather rude. "this is the same food we serve everyone and everyone else loves it" and she walked away. So it's MY problem. Yea, my husband could barely eat any of it either. And now we both have hangry stomachs--feel slightly bloated--but empty. And a gnawing sort of "creep" in the stomach. A sure sign of cheap food with empty calories. And the big thing for me is, I had been fasting for over 30 hours--since lunch the day before--and this was now 2PM the next day. Usually when I do that--cardboard tastes good! Food has so much more flavor. Not this junk. We will never set foot in this place again. Today I stopped in to La Tapatia for a quick lunch. I called ahead to find out what the "all you can eat" option was for the day. Gleefully, it was all you can eat enchiladas. I was seated right away and ordered a Pepsi and was given chips and salsa. The chips were still warm a delightfully crispy. The salsa was fresh and had good flavor. It usually doesn't have enough heat for me so I just mix in a little hot sauce. I also ordered some guacamole, which was good but nothing special. In a very short amount of time, I got my beef enchiladas. If you don't like a ton of lettuce, I would order then with no lettuce (you get more cheese that way too!). The plate was piping hot and held 4 beautifully smothered beef enchiladas. I forgot to ask for no lettuce, so it looked like there was a salad on top of it. When the waiter stopped by and asked if I wanted more he saw my lettuce piled up on the side and asked if I wanted my next ones without lettuce. The enchiladas were well prepared, however the meat filling could have used a little bit more flavor. Also, it would have been nice to have some other toppings for them like sour cream or green onions. I am thinking that because I ordered the all you can eat, I didn't get the extras. Great authentic mexican food! They have some tex-mex favorites, but the menu seems to thrive on authentic Mexican food. The prices are low and fair. The margaritas are especially cheap. The service was slow, but the server was kind enough when he was around. I'm not docking points for service or ambiance. I try not to comment on the service if I've only stopped in once, as I've been to plenty of places that sometimes just have that off day. My complaint is focused where it should be--the food. I ordered enchiladas and they were bland, all while drowning in bland sauce. I love me some beans, but the ones that came with my order tasted more like water and less like beans. The only true saving grace was the amount of food. There are definitely big servings here. It will take a lot of convincing to get me to dine here again. With all of the other positive reviews and the relatively inexpensive dishes, you might have better luck than I did. I have literally tried everything on their menu and I find it impossible to choose a favorite! The chips are fresh and not overly salty. The salsa is good, but try the queso dip! OMG, you'll think you've died and gone to heaven! Once you get to know them, the staff is fantastic. The service is outstanding even if it's your first time. The staff here is always moving so they aren't overly chatty until they get to know you. They are worth getting to know!! Great people who know how to make great food.
