The restaurant is located on the Greenwich Avenue strip with street parking. The restaurant was small but very clean and had a bar. The lady at the register was very nice and the service was great. We ordered the pork belly taco, the steak taco, and the short rib taco. The steak was super tender and perfectly seasoned. The short rib was super tender and dripping with flavor. I notice at other taco joints the tortilla falls apart, but the tortillas at La Taqueria were very durable. Each taco was very generously topped with meat and toppings. The salsa that accompanied the tacos was spicy, zesty, and overall perfectly balanced. To be honest, these tacos were probably the best I have ever had. The tacos were $5+ dollars a pop, but hey it's Greenwich. 2 tacos is more than enough to satisfy you given the generous portions, also the quality of the meat was outstanding. I really liked the food here! Took a quick day trip to Connecticut and found this place walking up Greenwich avenue. The chicken burrito was flavorful. You can taste the grill of the chicken which gives the burrito a really great flavor! The shrimps from the shrimp tacos were similarly grilled to perfection. Chicken quesadilla looked like mini tacos but had good flavor as well! The tortilla are half moon shaped tortilla so they are larger than your typical triangle chip. Have been coming here for two years now and this establishment is still on the very top of my places to eat Mexican cuisine. Sometimes going with friends I end up trying new places but they do not compare to LaTaqueria. The fish (cod) tacos here are the best by far from any I have tried. We tried the fish tacos, the cochinita pibil, and the savory short rib tacos. La Portena ever carbo-challenged, had one of hers in a lettuce cup and enjoyed it. Otherwise, you're looking at blue corn tortillas for your tacos. As far as service -- you order, pay, pick up your drink at the bar, take your number to the table and await a server with your food. There are also a few stools by the bar. You might want to come early or at an off hour, the place was full by 1230 Election Day Tuesday. Some small criticisms -- the cashier didn't catch my order of chips and salsa, but I had enough to eat without as thr posole was so generous. This place touched my heart during my visit to CT. Between the Bruce and the Harbor I want to move to Greenwich. La Taqueria authentic mexican cuisine was a hidden treasure. The fresh pressed strawberry margarita smelled like a strawberry field. You only need one, trust me. Topped perfectly with a dainty mint leaf. Exquisite. The half moon quesadilla was creamy and delectable. The beer battered cod was the best fish taco I have ever had. A street corn that was to die for, had to order 2 more to go. House fried tortilla chips that were perfectly salted, complimented the chunky guacamole and mild salsa. I give this restaurant location a 10/10. The service was superb and it felt like home. This place reminds me of the Greenwich version of Chipotle. The positive news is they look like they make everything fresh and put a lot of effort into it. Always nice to see. The tacos were pretty good especially the veggie one. Sometimes the vegetarian options are an afterthought but not here. The tortilla's tasted homemade and came in a blue corn version as well. I made the mistake of going healthy and ordering the salad. It wasn't the best and had a funky dressing to it. We also had the guacamole and it was pretty solid. Visiting Connecticut from Miami and stumbled upon this place. At first, we were hesitant because we wanted something a little less casual and instead wanted a nice sit down experience. I ended up ordering chips and guacamole, chicken tacos, crispy fish tacos, carnitas tacos, and a chefs salad plate. The tacos are well prepared and very simple in flavor, nothing too fancy or crazy. Just good fresh meat with a few seasonings and onions that create a very simple but delicious taco. The guacamole was fresh and the chips were crispy. The chefs plate (with chicken, rice, beans, salad, and guac) was a good but a little small spread of flavors that was well plated. Overall the food and presentation was not what I expected when I first walked into such a casual (but still pretty) establishment. But the food was well above average for the price and the service was great. Very pleased we found this gem to make our trip even more memorable. Ps. So we've been waiting for this place to open because a) there's no Mexican/taco restaurant on the avenue and b) it's walkable from work. We were here on taco Tuesday. I ordered 2 tacos, the fish and carne asada and one of my coworkers got a guac to share. Not very many tables for a sit down meal but that's okay. The layout is a little strange. They have a bar seating which also has the salsas that are out on the open. Not a big fan of this. It's a hygiene issue imo. I asked the lady how big the tacos were and she said not very and she wasn't kidding. For $5 a taco, it is too small or maybe the pricing is too high for the amount of fish/meat you get. Also, need more garnish/filling other than cilantro. I guess I was hoping for it to be tastier. The taste was definitely toned down to please the less adventurous eaters of Greenwich. And then there's the guac for $9. It is maybe half or 3/4 an avocado, barely smashed and bland. Hopefully, this place will improve as we need diversity of restaurants on the avenue but who knows.
