Last time I was here I had a delicious Caesar salad. This time very disappointed - welted lettuce - different croutons- only shaker cheese. Now waiting patiently for 45 minutes for a wood fired pizza and Mediterranean salad. Wish me luck! Not worth the wait. Tastes like a frozen pizza that after baking they threw on some basil and chunks of cold tomatoes. UPDATE.: as we were paying the bill found out their last day is tomorrow. That explains a lot. I want to want to like this place, but they've got a ways to go before they get there. We had a 5:30 reservation on a Friday evening. When we arrived our table had a reserved sign on it with our names. It wasn't a table I would have chose as I don't particularly care to sit in the middle of the floor and that table is right up against a large pillar. The two servers were nice, but there didn't seem to be a lot lot of "get up and go" between the two of them. They were slow to reset tables after people left and there were a few times i looked over and they were both standing around the bar area. All of the food took an extremely long time to come out of the kitchen. We waited nearly 20 minutes for our salads. When it came time to order dinner, I ordered the Baked Ziti with Meatballs only to be told they were out of meatballs. Not quite sure how that can happen. When did you realize you were running low and why didn't you make more? Another table ordered Calamari and they were told they were out of that as well. Our entrees also took close to 30 minutes to arrive. My wife ordered the pasta pomodoro that was supposed to be served with fettuccine, but it came out with pappardelle. We did enjoy our dinner, but there is room for a lot of improvement across the board. read more

We were in town for the Cycling event. We left disappointed after realizing that there was only one Waitress and we were sitting around for a bit with only water. Then I realized that there was limited selection for non meat eatesr. If we return to the City we will try again and hopefully they will be better prepared for the weekend crowd. read more

I called tonight at 6:28 ordering a large cheese pizza. The woman that took my order, said" ready 20 mins." I gave them a extra few minutes and arrived just before 7:00. They were serving only 1 table in the whole place. Was told nonchalantly it would take another 15-20 minutes before my take out was ready. I said nevermind and they seemed surprised. Never again. Came again for lunch. Great appetizer and chicken parmigiana. Service and atmosphere very good. Love the 30's music in background.

Walked and and spoke to the owner and was impressed with what I saw. Told them that I would be ordering a pizza over phone for take out . Was told one of the girls will take order over phone. Called about an hour later and was told that they were busy, wouldn't do a take out order and that I was better off calling in "An order like that", during the week. Excellent service! There were a few apps they were out of but our bruschetta was delicious. We ordered chicken parm and a personal veggie pizza and they were both very good. We also got the cannolis which were extraordinary! With a bottle of wine, everything was about $90-far cheaper than many other restaurants in town. read more

Pizza was over priced, overcooked, VERY thin crust. We were told our order was taking so long because they "tore the crust". A couple that came in after us had salad served before we got our salad order. Used to come here when it had previous ownership. Food was better and fairly priced. Unfortunately LaTavola may not make it if what we had for service, cost and quality is going to be the norm. We won't be going back to see if they've improved. read more

The personal pizza was pretty good. My husband got chicken piccata that was ok. The waitress was very unprepared. We sat with no flatware for 3 minutes after we received our order. The jazz trio played and that was lovely. It was ok for a night out. Would love to have better service. read more

We had lunch here again and the service was extremely good! Very friendly and attentive. We got a nice table by the window all to ourselves. We ordered the fried mozzarella as an appetizer and it was delicious! Large round well breaded pieces of mozzarella perfectly done. We then got our lunch which was the Chicken Parmesan Sub and was a little disappointed that the bread that was used was not a hoagie or Italian bread so it was not crispy or toasted which is important for this type of Italian sandwich. I highly recommend switching to a better bread brvause the chicken itself was very good. Also, French fries should be more well done but overall we love the restaurant layout and tables! Finally reopened local restaurant proved reliable. This area doesn't have many choices so we decided to check it out. Early Friday night wasn't busy yet so our reservation wasn't necessary but they had our table marked for us anyway, nice. We ordered a glass of wine and a beer- no alcohol is offered. Spicy fried Calamari was ok but not spicy so we added crushed red to the marinara. We then shared a pizza and Caesar salad. Finished with homemade ice cream. Our server was nice and attentive. I hope this place is supported by the locals and gives us another restaurant to visit. read more

first of all- I want this establishment to succeed. in the country, local establishments are important for the community. and this place has just getting on its feet, so early bugs and improvements are expected. first visit - this is an italian restaurant. the first thing that should hit the table is a basket of bread and some butter or olive oil. find a local baker or make some focaccia. Make bread sticks out of pizza dough (Pizza is on the menu). It's cheap and easy, and it sets the tone for the dining experience. It will also encourage customers to drink more. Half of the menu items were unavailable because they were "cleaning the fryer." I ordered the lasagna - an Italian staple! nope. Not available. I settled on the baked ziti with meatballs. it came out hot and it was good. there was no Parmesan cheese on the table, nor was any offered. Hubby ordered to bolognese. It came out lukewarm but tasty. 2nd visit. The internet was down, so there was no background music (apparently they stream and have no backup). the atmosphere was strangely and noticeably quiet. Ordered the soup (only offered in a bowl - I had hoped for a smaller portion) and the bruscetta. The soup was lukewarm but tasty. The bruschetta came with whole (unpeeled) cherry tomatoes and a sweet balsamic. It was not to my taste, but can't say anything was wrong with it. My hubby ordered the chicken Parmesan. Sigh. It came out looking appealing though the chicken was quite thick. It was not hammered thinly as classic chicken parm should be. By the third bite, it was discovered to be completely raw. Here's where things went wrong - The waitress was very nice but obviously unseasoned. She took the plate away, gave an embarrassed apology and my Hubs ordered the bolognese (The kitchen did not offer to make a new plate of chicken parm). The excuse from the kitchen was that the "fryer needs to be cleaned so the dark grease makes the products look darker too." The FRYER NEEDS TO BE CLEANED? This is what you want to tell customers? No further amends were made. We weren't expecting to have the bill wiped clean, but offer us a free dessert or glass of wine. Have the manager attempt to make the situation better. Nothing. The poor waitress had to fend for herself. They brought the bill, asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. And by the way, it was when hubs was halfway finished with the bolognese that he was offered parm cheese. Summary- this place is new. The community wants good locally run businesses in town. We want more variety. We want to draw people into town. but this place has a lot of bugs to work out. A LOT. Serve bread, have backup plans. Fix your fryer, use a thermometer on the meat before it leaves the kitchen, train the waitstaff, (who are very nice by the way), serve hot food, offer comps when things go badly (A little effort goes a long way!) Just a note: when we ordered, we were the only customers. There was no reason for our order to be rushed and served raw or lukewarm. We will return in a few months and try again (depending on reviews from our friends). We would love to write a great review Next time. read more

We had been eager to try this new restaurant since it opened a few weeks ago. Finally made it this evening, and I'm being generous by giving it 1 star. The food was mediocre overall -- some of it very good, some of it forgettable. But then, we had to wait OVER AN HOUR for the food, despite it being a very slow night (a Thursday, when there were only 5-6 tables being served; we counted two servers). We ordered salads to come before the meal, but when they hadn't been served 15 minutes later, I asked when to expect them. The server went back to the kitchen, twice, and came back to us 3-4 minutes later to say "They're working on them now." It was another 10 minutes before they finally arrived -- fresh and tasty, but again, almost a half-hour wait for salads? And then, as noted above, a full hour between our order and actually getting our food. Shrimp scampi and shrimp alfredo got high marks, but the spaghetti bolognese was less than mediocre and lacked any semblance of flavor. Our server NEVER stopped by during the meal to ask if everything was OK, to check on our drinks, nothing. We finally had to hail her from across the room to get her to bring our bill. Unless we hear from friends and neighbors that things have drastically changed, we won't be going back. Their website boasts, "Our friendly staff is dedicated to ensuring your dining experience is nothing short of exceptional, providing attentive service that makes you feel like part of the family." Our experience was nothing like that at all. "Attentive" and "service" were not on the menu tonight. I also note that the restaurant does not seem to have bothered to reply to any of the reviews here on Yelp. That's also not a good look. Good restaurants will reply to all reviews -- with gratitude for positive reviews and with apologies for bad ones. This is another indication that they just don't seem to care. What a shame. Onancock deserves better. read more
