They charge $79 "diagnostic fee" and my total was very high. Less then a mile a way (not going to say the name) there was no diagnostic fee the check it for free, and they even were honest with my and suggested not to repair it. And if I did repair it they would have charged me $160 instead of $330! I am not saying then don't know what they are doing but, this is my experience and they probably could do good work but the price was steep. Also the area was pretty bad with homeless people around, and I got some bad vibes from the staff. Overall not bad not good. ! I got a refund for the diagnostic before they actully started! Went in with a broken screen Told them it was only the screen They said they would have fixed it in one hr They then called me back after 30 mins telling me they had to run an (unneeded) $78 diagnostic claiming the phone wasn't charging nor turning on so probably the problem was bigger than expected (FALSE) Fortunately I was aware of the damage on my phone and I was sure it was turning on so I decided to get my phone back with no diagnostic.. when I got there the phone was still open (why?) and after 5 mins I got it back Went to another shop, got my problem fixed in 30 mins and the new shop even put screws that those scammers forgot to put back on cause too lazy or in a rush to give me back my phone.. read more

L.A. Tech Repairs has kept my old Moto Z Force Droid running after I tired of Verizon telling me they no longer offer tech support for a phone I bought from them and then trying to upsell me. I don't want to give up the ecosystem of accessories ("mods") I bought for it and that no modern phone can support. L.A. Tech Repairs revived the Droid after an aurora zapped it this May in England (along with half the phones in the group I was with!) and, since then, I've used L.A. Never write reviews but wanted to share my not so great experience here. I chose this store to bring my Mac to because of it's really high rating--drove 30 minutes out of my way from Burbank. People said the service was fast, quick fixes, etc. My MacBook Pro (bought new in 2020) has been experiencing fan/overheating issues and intermittent freezing. I've never damaged my laptop besides a small coffee spill on the keyboard in Fall 2023 which was repaired (keyboard replaced). It was having fan issues before then anyways. Eventually I got fed up with it because I'm an editor and I couldn't edit, so took it here to see if it's an easy fix. I dropped it off on August 6th. After having it for 4 days, they told me via text they couldn't find any heating issues. I explained further that they are definitely there. They then said they needed to diagnose the motherboard which would take "2-5 business days for an update" (said this on Aug 10th). 3 business days later I checked in again (August 13th) and they said there was no update. I then waited 3 more days with silence from them and at that point my laptop had been there for 1.5 weeks with no updates/solutions. I reached out again (August 16th) and there was still no update, but they told me they'd have one "in the next few hours". I never got one that day. I reached out again the next day and no response. Reached out AGAIN on Monday (the 19th) and they finally answered saying they found "water damage" and could proceed with "fixing the water damage" for $299. I asked what exactly the damage was as I've never spilled water on it, and they explained some parts needed "resoldering". I wanted to make sure that if I was to pay $299 for this that it would actually fix my issues, so I asked directly: "Does the technician think that the water damage is directly linked to the fan/freezing issues?" and they responded "we will resolve the freezing and fan issues." On Tuesday Aug 20th they told me my device was repaired. I picked it up the following day, but that same day the fan issues came right back. I waited a day just to see, and the night of the 22nd they were there in full swing. My laptop fan was going full blast for 20-30 minutes SHUT after only using google chrome and all other applications were quit. I took a video and sent it to them (I did appreciate that they offered that option) and they told me to just bring it back. Keep in mind this meant driving another hour round trip to bring it back and I really didn't feel confident that they could fix it. Since I had invested $299 into this I had to take it back. I dropped it back off on Friday, Aug 23. Then I heard nothing from them until I reached back out again on Tuesday Aug 27th. I had a feeling it was just sitting there and nobody was looking at it. They then finally responded after a few hours and told me that the motherboard issue is "unfixable" and that I'd have to replace the entire motherboard for $519 plus tax. I had already explained I wasn't interested in investing that much into this laptop and opted out of that. Thankfully, they offered a full refund of the resoldering cost ($220) but the "diagnostic fee" ($79) is non-refundable. So I am essentially out $80 and didn't have my laptop for a full 3 weeks. I do appreciate that they offered the refund at all, but I am not convinced by their service that they really even worked hard on my laptop or cared about fixing it. It seems like they just wanted to sell me parts/services. Looking back I would've just taken it to Apple instead. I'm pretty frustrated because they were also not apologetic and generally unresponsive. I assumed this would be in an out in a few days given their reviews but that was far from the case. Overall I'd probably not recommend taking your laptop here, unless it's a straightforward issue like a cracked screen. It doesn't seem like the technicians know what they're doing. read more
