    Carne asada burrito
    Tameka Y.

This burrito was HUGE. Full of steak, rice, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. Now, I thought the burrito was just ok. I personally would've liked some jalapeños on the side, to add some heat. Also the burrito was not hot and it was not wrapped well; the inside kept falling apart when I would try to eat it. Also the steak was dry. Not the best experience, but I will go and try again. I see the potential in a better visit. My mother, on the other hand, had the menudo and said it was was hot and delicious.

Tacos with chicken and chorizo. Plate was $7.

This is a small bakery with about 4 tables and chairs in the back. The AC felt really nice after standing in line next door where their AC wasn't on. As my husband waited next door for our lunch, I ordered some tamales and bakery items at La Canasta. Despite my lack of Spanish-speaking skills, I was able to make an order and though I didn't quite understand, I spontaneously said "okay!" Because when tamales are in your top 10 for food, you always say okay, no matter what you're ordering. Well, I ended up with two savory pulled chicken tamales and two sweet plantain tamales. Both were authentic as could be, wrapped in corn husks, and the masa was so flavorful! I've only been in TN for two weeks and I managed to find authentic tamales much faster than I did when living in NC. The bakery items were nice and it was fun to try new foods. I've never been to a Mexican bakery before so everything we purchased was new to me. I especially loved that nothing was over the top sweet like American bakeries. The staff here are all very kind even with my poor Spanish-speaking skills (let's be honest, near non-existent). If you're looking for authentically made tamales, this is your go-to!!

We've been…read moresearching for so long and I had honestly given up multiple times, but like all great explorers, we endured and persevered. Taqueria Lupita is a great spot nestled inside a gas station market. As soon as we walked in, I knew we were in for a treat. The smell of meat on the griddle and the aroma of toasted tortillas met our noses and it made my mouth instantly start salivating. The team behind the counter was working fast and got our order out super quick. I opted for a chicken burrito and it took all of my self control to keep from eating it on the drive home. But like all great explorers of old, we had to take our bounty back to the motherland for all to enjoy. I cut it open and see what the cross section looked like, and it was practically perfect. I forgot to ask for avocado, so that's on me. We got the red and green salsas with it and they were both great. I loved the roasty undertones and heat of the red salsa. The first bite of this burrito took me back to another place, far from Tennessee. It was a glorious first bite. The melty cheese, the rice, beans and the chicken combined to make the most delicious symphony of flavors. I can't say enough good things about this burrito, you have to try it for yourself. I'm eager to try more things on their menu, especially the torta, it looked amazing.

As soon as we saw the (previously Oakland) Raiders logo, we knew it was gonna be good! I got the steak (asada) burrito - it came with rice, beans, meat, sour cream, and lettuce. If I had to give a critique, I'd say it's just missing a little guac. But oh my word, this burrito transported me right back to California! The flavors were spot on, the ratios were perfect. It may have taken us five years, but we finally found a Mexican spot that will definitely be in our rotation. It's located inside a small gas station, which confused us at first. But once we walked in, it was clear where to order. Both guys working seemed extremely kind and helpful, and overall just happy to be serving people incredible food.

And nobody judges you for letting your kids run around a little. Other families are there doing the same thing, everybody gets it, and for a brief moment in time, eating out with children doesn't feel like a hostage situation. The food is always consistent, the drinks are good, and brunch is probably the best move. It's family-friendly in the way parents actually need a place to be family-friendly, not just because they technically allow children through the door. They're making the outside even better now with the renovation and additions, which is great because that patio already rules. Good food. Good drinks. Great outdoor space. Kid-approved, adult-approved. It's freaking awesome.

I ordered the vegan burrito thinking I was about to receive the warm, tightly wrapped cylinder of comfort that has powered civilizations for centuries. Beans. Rice. Maybe some grilled veggies doing their thing. The classics. What arrived instead was... a philosophical question. Inside the tortilla was a sparse scattering of ingredients that looked less like a burrito filling and more like the evidence table after a burrito had already been eaten by someone else. A few beans wandering around with no clear sense of purpose. Rice that appeared to have been introduced to the concept of seasoning only briefly, perhaps in passing. Everything loosely contained in a tortilla that had clearly given up on life somewhere around the folding stage. I actually paused for a moment just staring at it, the way you might look at modern art and wonder if you're missing something important. But the real genius of this dish is the confidence. Because someone in that kitchen assembled this, looked down at their work, closed the box, and essentially said, "Yes. This is a burrito." And honestly? I respect it. As someone who never misses an opportunity to troll when the moment presents itself, I can only admire the audacity. Putting this in a box and sending it out into the world with a straight face deserves recognition. Was it a good burrito? Absolutely not. But was it memorable? Without question. In fact, it may be the most conceptual burrito I've ever had. 5 sexy stars.

I got the chicharron pupusas, which is done the El Salvadorian way- it's like shreds of pork meat, not fried pork skin. Easily one of the top pupusas, curtido (cabbage salad) and salsa I've had, and I've eaten them almost all my life in Los Angeles. The asada taco was filled to the brim w crisped up meat and their homemade tortillas were incredible. My husband had the Chile Rellenos and couldn't stop talking about it... not just how good those were but even their rice and beans! So much flavor! It seems like a lil family restaurant, it's clean and they were super friendly. Sometimes they even do menudo- but you'll have to call before the weekend to check. My hubby asked me what I wanted to eat and I told him I was craving for Sopa de Res so he searched for just that and this restaurant was one of the few that popped. He chose this restaurant because he reviewed the menu, he recognized a lot of the menu selections and he knew it had to be Guatemala cuisine. We are from Guatemala so it was a Bonus for us. The following is what we ordered; Sopa de Res-3 piezas de carne de res con vegetales, papas, elote y repollo con tortillas hechas a mano (Beef soup w/vegetables, corn, cabbage, served with homemade tortillas) Carne asada - con ensalada fría de coditos, longaniza, frijoles, jalapeños, cebollines, y tortillas hechas a mano (Grilled steak, spring onions w/macaroni salad, mashed black beans, grilled sausage and jalapeños) I have to say that we felt we were in Guatemala. The home cooking feeling was heartwarming. The food is so delicious. We were not disappointed. I highly recommend this restaurant. The service of the waiter, a young man, son of the owners, was excellent. He kept checking on us to see if we needed anything else or how we were. I honestly didn't want to leave. I was so content. We stayed a while and left a half hour before they closed. I wish they were closer to us. Thank you Emanuel Restaurant for your great cooking and excellent service.
