Here on a work trip and wanted to try somewhere new - chips and salsa were decent. I had a cheese enchilada and chile poblano. They were fine, although the poblano had very little cheese. I also got guac - and some of the avocado chunks were already turning colors - so at least I know it was fresh at some point today? The food was fine - the price was great. I've only been to this La Tolteca for lunch, but I thought the food was very good and the service was quick and friendly. Like the other La Toltecas I've been to, this is a solid option for enchiladas and good chips and salsa. I hope this place stays busy since it's a big and friendly space. read more

Tried the Buckley Mills location due to the raving Google reviews. Was sorely disappointed. This is not an authentic Mexican restaurant. Decor was nice and dining room spacious, but ambiance was...lacking. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the host who looked like he would rather be doing anything else but be there. Our server was nice enough, but he definitely seemed rushed. It was our first time visiting and he didn't even ask nor offer to explain any specials they were having. We've dined at authentic Mexican restaurants in the past and admittedly, they normally don't explain things on the menu... and that's okay, given that they're typically serving Mexicans or other Latino patrons. However, seeing as how this place was clearly not an authentic Mexican restaurant and the patrons were majority non people of color, I was expecting a more Americanized experience once I realized the state of things. Onto the food: I ordered the fried tilapia tacos but got shrimp tacos instead. I took 2 bites before I realized the mistake. The shrimp tacos looked beautiful, but lacked any flavor. I received the tilapia tacos after a short wait and they were the blandest fish tacos I've ever eaten. Just, criminally bland. Zero seasoning whatsoever. Definitely not made for a palate seeking authentic Mexican flavors.... I'm not even sure there was basic salt and pepper on them! The pineapple, cabbage and special sauce garnish made the tacos edible but I was not happy eating them. My husband got the steak tacos which he said enjoyed...but the steak was quite dry and again very bland when I tasted it. Again, sorely disappointed. Will not be returning. read more

Oh dear. I wish I had waited longer after eating from here to read some of the reviews lmao. We ordered from here for delivery last night so had no interaction with the waitstaff which sounds like is the problem in many of the poor reviews of this place. The food came within a standard period of time. We ordered the queso to start and I love the option to customize it with optional add ins. I've never seen that before and I order queso frequently, you can trust my queso qualifications. You also have the choice between 2 sizes, one very small you practically need a microscope to see it and another that is 16 oz and can probably be swum in. The latter is $20 which seems a little bit extravagant for an appetizer, unless you are ordering for a crowd. Needless to say, I took the smaller option. Regarding the flavor, it was tasty, I just wish there was more of it. I took advantage of the add in options and selected jalapenos which were a really nice spicy contrast to the queso. For my main, I ordered the "trio vegetarianas" with a cheese enchilada, bean burrito, and chalupa. As a picky bitch I am LIVING for their customization options. I usually have to put up with onions and mushrooms in my mexican vegetarian dishes but they, on the ordering screen, give you the option of of omitting both of these things, among other things. I don't know if any of the things i ordered would have had either and if not, I can't say whether they would actually accommodate my requests but even the thought of adding something like that is awesome. I will also say I very much enjoyed this dish. I would have appreciated a side of rice or beans or something, neither of which were present. I have to add though that the food was luke warm AT BEST and I'm being generous. The cheese was completely solid. I can't completely blame this on the restaurant though, our delivery person had to drop something else off first but I'm thrilled to reflect on how long our food was just sitting around before it made its way to us. GF ordered spinach quesadillas. She says, "it could be better, it wasn't quite as crispy as I like". Wow! She must be in a good mood providing much more detail than her usual "it was good". I've been on a real sugar kick lately and tried to anticipate my desire for dessert by ordering the churros. They have a bunch of other dessert options if that doesn't tickle your fancy. The churros were pretty good, a little raw on the inside which now, after reading some of the reviews, is making me nervous. Keep your fingers crossed for me. read more

We have given this place a try more then once and sadly they have failed us each time. The main issue being the servers. Two times we had pleasant service. But other then that , it's a no. We wanted to love this place but I think it's out last visit. We didn't even get a refill on our waters and the two times the waiter came to the table he spoke to us while walking away as if we were an inconvenience, mind you we didn't ask for anything . It was no t busy at all and I could understand if it was but he never even came back to check on us . We literally sat there for so long waiting for the check. Another time we sat outside and same type of service the girl was very dry and short with us never came back to refill drinks etc. I agree that maybe some more training needs to go into the service team. Once again, we were seated in an almost empty restaurant, and no one came to wait on us. After 10 min of waiting, we left. Found all the waitstaff chatting at the hostess station. No one even acknowledged us on our way out. The food is decent if you can get someone to wait on you. read more

my husband and I went to La Tolteca for Cinco de Mayo and it was awful. they just opened this restaurant and more training is needed for the wait staff. we were seated and after 15 minutes had to find someone to come to our table to order drinks. we ordered 2 margaritas and they came in plastic cups....everyone around us had glasses. I had the Hawaiian Shrimp Fajitas which comes in a pineapple with rice and 3 tortillas. no cheese, sour cream, guacamole and I was given no plate. it was the hot,sizzling fajitas platter and the tails were still on the shrimp so I had to cut the tails off before putting them and the peppers,etc into the tortilla. I asked to see the manager and was told she is busy. my husband's margarita was strong and I swear there wasn't any alcohol in mine. i finally caught our server and asked for the bill, she reviewed what we ordered and said it was $49.25. I handed her a $50 bill and she said that she didn't have change. I told her to go to the bar and get change. the whole visit was awful! read more

Ordered a molcajete which came out ICE COLD, all the peppers hanging off the side were raw, the meat was cold, and the queso was not even close to melting, when they remade the dish and brought it out, it was topped with American cheese... we spoke with the 12 year old manager who refused to remake the food or take any responsibility. I looked forward to the experience. So, it's with great disappointment that I write this review. We had a prescheduled event of about 45 people. Service was extremely slow and unorganized. Chips and salsa, which was their staple appetizer for this restaurant arrived over 30 minutes late. Salsa was warm. Water and drinks were not served until after meals were served which was about an hour into service but every was not served Water. Had to constantly hunt the one waitress down to ask for things. The seafood soup which was to be a medley of 4 types of seafood only had 2. The soup was also watery. My main course was delivered so late, I had to take it to go. When I was finally able to eat it, it was very salty. Only one waitress was assigned to our group while 3 to 4 waitresses hung around the front desk off and on during our event doing nothing. Finally, our event was ending. Everyone is looking for the waitresses to close out checks. The waitresses closed out half the room and then disappears. No longer to be seen. After 15 to 20 minutes, I had to go to the desk to tell them that we are trying to close out but our waitresses disappeared. Apparently, she was out waiting tables. That explained everything. The lack of attention. The food being extremely late and unorganized service. The waitresses being flustered. There should have been no less than 2 waitresses assigned to our group and maybe a runner. After this experience, I would never recommend this establishment for events. It was not a good experience. read more
