I've known this place since I was born, it's been a family staple for years. I have always enjoyed their food and service but yesterday I had a bad experience with a particular waitress. I'm not sure what her name is but she had a short gray haircut. Everyone else from the hostess to the bussers were kind and attentive. Initially she greeted us nicely but as the night went on I could tell she wasn't treating us the same as the other tables. She dropped off the water jug for us to self pour. We hadn't even drank the first glass we were served so why did she do that for our table and not everyone else's? I saw her consistently check on other tables except for ours to the point where we had to look for her in order to add somethingto our meal. Yes, they were busy but not that busy. I forsure ordered a chicken parmigiana because that's my favorite meal, especially at La Toscana. When my meal came and it was chicken Masala, I told her and her response - she showed me her notebook and said " no. You ordered chicken Masala, see" and walked a way. I didn't want to make a big deal out of it so I left it there. I came with my mom to celebrate a special occasion but this individual caused us to feel uncomfortable in one of our favorite spots. I think she treated us like that because she thought we couldn't afford our meal or weren't going to leave a nice tip. So I made sure to leave 30 dollars, not because of her service but so she could see I could afford to invite my mother to a meal and leave a great tip regardless of her assumptions or judgements. read more

We haven't been to La Toscana for a while, but when friends said they wanted to have an Italian meal, we suggested La Toscana. we were all delighted and and a little surprised at how good all the food was. We found the parking to be iffy, mainly because La Toscana is so popular, and access to the perfect reservation time was a little difficult (probably for the same reason) but once we were there, seated and ogling the menu, we were sold! What I love is that they have some of the pasta that other places either don't do...or don't do well. We loved the Cacio e Pepe, and swooned for their Pasta Carbonara. Both rich and creamy, but not overly so. The Veal Milanese was tender inside, and crispy outside.. just like it should be! Flawless. They didn't have Linguini with Clams on the day we were there, but I'm looking forward to that next time! read more

Been twice, and both times I got the ravioli with brown butter sauce and the limoncello tiramisu. In some ways, this feels like the perfect meal. My whole life until coming here, I only knew the traditional tiramisu. This one is just as rich, just as tangy, with a blueberry brightness that compliments the mascarpone unbelievably! read more

They recently remodeled so the inside looks really nice. When I say recently I guess a couple years LOL. Food was good. I had pasta. Service was good. It just seemed a little high for pasta. We started with Caesar salad's we ordered two between the four of us to split just for two starter Caesars Was $24. And the noise level it was hard to hear we were a party of four. read more

Finally had a meal indoors since Covid-19. The service and food was delicious as well as the adult drinks, prices are reasonable and the restaurant is lovely indoors and wonderful patio and bar. read more

The last few years since Covid, they have really changed it used to feel like family very nourishing, food, and plenty of it, now they skimping on everything charging you for every little bit of extra or change in the menu. I don't like to leave negative reviews based on one experience at a restaurant, but for a place with such raving reviews - I was disappointed. The food came out suspiciously quick, our appetizer out within 2 minutes, like it had just been tossed in warm sauce without being reheated. I ordered the braised short rib and was very disappointed. The meat was tough and just tasted like salt. The polenta was gummy and the veggies were watery. Overall little flavor. My sister ordered the shrimp and it was just simply bland. The service was fantastic and the restaurant was overall a nice place, just really disappointing food. Maybe next time we need to try the pasta. read more

I have lived in Marin for 30 years or more, and now I am wondering why I haven't been to La Toscana more often. Maybe it's because a time or two, long ago, I wasn't impressed. Maybe because I expect so much from Italian food that most places can't deliver. Maybe because I can be a little stuck up about suburban stand-by places that have a large following. "Come on! It can't be that good!" Well, lately I have been invited to La Toscana a couple of times, and was set straight about just how GOOD it is. I rarely order things out that I can make at home ("usually better", he said immodestly). But, lately I have been craving Linguini con Vongole set in front of me, with no effort on my part. So much so that I figured I would settle for less than perfect. Here's an interesting point... They don't have Linguini with Clams (Vongole) on the menu here, but they do have a Seafood Linguini. However, without batting an eye, my seasoned server said she could make the adjustment, easily. "Linguini con Vongole, coming up!" Only minutes later, I had a plate of fresh, steaming pasta with clams set in front of me. The delightful mixture of garlic and seawater scented clams wafted up and intoxicated me. Now, I have often been to Italy (is 3x often?) and, as you have heard here, was born and raised in NYC, so I have had some great Linguini w/ Clams in my life.... but NONE of them was better than this! Trust me. I only hope that they put it on the menu full time. This masterpiece deserves that kind of place! Get it with a little Pinot Grigio, on the side, while you're at it. read more

Stopped by on a Wednesday evening. Place was packed. Parking was little bit hard to find due to small parking lot. Street parking is available but can be hard to find. Waited couple minutes to be seated without reservation. Food tasted very good. read more

The best local a girl could ask for. The new remodel is absolutely beautiful and gives the dining room a modern yet warm ambiance. The bar is an especially great spot to catch a game, enjoy a quick glass of wine and some friendly conversation. Everybody who works at this restaurant is helpful, professional, and friendly. I also love the 50% all wine on Wednesdays. That also includes bottles to go! read more

La Toscana has been a favorite family run neighborhood cornerstone. I have had events there and the food was good, however always a preset meal. I had an anniversary lunch recently and I ordered the PAPPARDELLE LA CHINGHIALE ! OMG !!!!! I had to go back a week later and now, try and make it there at least twice a month. The Negroni cocktail is also a new obsession:) The staff is amazing too!! read more

We were seated quickly on a busy Saturday night. Plenty of fresh bread, bruschetta was zesty with ample garlic. My son loved his child's portion of spaghetti Alfredo, and my gnocchi was tender and delicate. Loved it; would definitely come again! read more

Fabulous meal and cocktails. It began with hot French bread! Mussels/Clam bowl as an appetizer super delicious Arugula salad and hearts of romaine salads were fresh and good portion. I'm a salad eater so that's important. My husband had the veal I had Toscana prawns plate. Simply the best we've had. Can't go wrong here. Enjoy! read more

Bravo... Ive only been to your establishment a few times and every time I go, im more and more impressed. The food is made with care, concern and with definte quality control. You can feel the pride for the brand with the staff and with every bite. With that, I felt compelled to tell the world why. Not only do you have a great wine menu, that is reasonably priced, but the food came out absolutely perfect. I think the mussels and clams were the best Ive had in marin. First time here! Service was good for a big party. Our food arrived at the same time and it was delicious. The chicken parmigiana was amazing. The arugula salad was lovely. Everything was fresh and tasteful. Bread was to die for and dessert did not disappoint omg! Lemoncello blueberry tiramisu was a must! I don't eat dessert but I was curious to see what this tasted like and I was happy I did! We will def be back for another meal read more

The food was very good. However, I ordered their special Petrale Sole $27. While it was a white fish and decent, it was not Petrale Soul that I have ever had. La Toscana has a great ambience, but the food was a disappointment. I had the risotto, but the there was no flavor or substance to it. The wine is all Italian, which is good. I like supporting my locals (nothing local), but I understand it's an 'italian' restaurant. We came during dinner on a Saturday and we're lucky enough to get a seat in the bar. The restaurant is located right of the freeway for convenience. I would not recommend this restaurant unless you're extremely hungry like we were. read more

Watch your credit card actual billing. Mine was about 33% than I approved, after I saw my statement. I printed the transaction list for that date, and took the original credit card signed receipt back to the manager. He acknowledged their error and agreed to fix it. I am posting this because the error may be a continuting glitch, or could it even be intentional, for all we know. I am giving 3 stars because the food itself met my expectations even thought the billing was sloppy. read more

Not sure whey I haven't reviewed La Toscana when I know all the authentic Italian restaurants exist in the North Bay. If you're thinking North Beach in SF, think again. I grew up in the Avenues in SF, and there are some legit Italian restaurants in Outer Richmond. A little birdie told me to explore the North Bay, stretching from Sausalito to Petaluma. This place has been around forever. It's still the place to go when craving mouthwatering Italian fare. It's always packed; locals love this place. Sit at the bar sometime, great place to watch a game or two. Unlike the city, there's plenty of parking. Everything is made with love! We came here for hubby's birthday, and we were full for days. Apparently, we weren't the only table celebrating a March birthday. Our son also saw his teammate after Little League practice; Marin is so small. We all enjoyed our colorful dishes and can't wait to come back for more. Attentive and friendly staff. I started out with a Moscow Mule, which was quite refreshing. I brought a bottle of our favorite wine. Our waters were refilled constantly, never an empty glass. The pork and beef meatballs appetizer is a must, didn't want to share with the family. Our pastas were delightful and on point. We ordered Pappardelle Al Cinghiale - wild boar, porcini sugo, pecorino romano, lasagne, and spaghetti & meatballs. Our server surprised hubby with a nice size sundae for his birthday. Son and I ordered our own housemade desserts (s'mores brownie sundae & tiramisu), which were both amazing. I was visiting the area for work. My bf had come up for the evening so we could enjoy date night. The person that sat us may have been a server. The hostess was busy on the phone. My first impression was she could've been a little nicer. After being seated I ordered a cocktail. Weak. Very watered down. Strike two. Fortunately, the food was amazing. The roasted eggplant made up for the rest. The night was not ruined, however I probably wouldn't come back here. read more

This is a review from 3 months ago and from what I can remember the Food was ok, nothing really spectacular, the bread seemed a bit old and dry. The salad was decent but the pasta looked like a microwave dinner. The wine was good though. Our servers 2 young girls seemed like they didn't know what they were doing specially the red head one. The elderly woman was a bit rude towards the end of the night, I think she needs to find the right set of words when telling people that the restaurant will soon close. She seemed very angry and left us all with a bad vibe. read more

Send it. Recommend nannas homemade gnocchi and the chicken parmigiana. I never even thought I liked gnocchi until having it here and my family is from New York. Chicken parmigiana was flattened nicely with a not to sweet but not to acidic red sauce, which is hard to come by here in Marin. I spoke with the owner Mike who was able to take my constructive criticism and joke with me. I joked about the tiramisu, about how it couldn't even compare to another local place. He told me to try it then when he returned to the table and asked what I thought, I told him no not as great. He laughed and took it off the bill. Now, that is a good owner. This place and ill davide are my favorite Italian places so far in Marin. Food, staff (ask for waitress alex) and at la toscana especially the atmosphere is big, roomy and vibrant. read more

We had a wonderful dining experience with superb service delivered by our server Joe. The pescatore, putanesca spaghetti and chicken parmigiana were delicious with the super tuscan wine. Reasonable priced dishes that delivered fresh tastes from your Italian favorites. The beautiful remodeled restaurant has an attractive main dining room, a great bar lounge for anytime dining, and a heated outside room for private parties or other purposes. If it's been awhile or a your 1st timer you owe it to yourself to go indulge your palate...mangia! read more

Simply put, one of our favorite places in Marin! Food and atmosphere are Bella! I really enjoy the outdoor patio...especially by the fountain. We frequently order the Pappardelle and the Cannelloni. Nice wine selections as well. My husband loves their tiramisu. Our little piece of Italy away from Italy. read more

Oddly enough, this seemingly remodeled space reeks of a very very old house (you know the kind with carpet older than your Grams?) the moment you step foot inside. It is quite off-putting. Something tells me they don't clean very often. Second issue I had with this place was even before we got our food. It was with our drinks. I usually drink water and my husband has a diet coke. However, since both water glasses were really dirty, I decided I would have some of my husbands soda with my meal instead. Unfortunately, it tasted fermented. Instead of complaining about something that is obviously not the waiters fault, he politely asked if he could have a regular coke instead. While I was walking towards the restroom, I caught the waiter talking trash about my husband and his request to change soda types. :( Rudeness aside, that soda line has probably never been cleaned. This a very serious health safety issue that needs to be addressed asap. We ordered Fettuccini Carbonara and Spinach/Ricotts Ravioli in tomato cream sauce. The pasta was just OK. Certainly not Sorella quality and grossly overpriced for the quantity, quality and location. read more

A very good, very visible restaurant, La Toscana is definitely a local favorite. They have some very nice pasta dishes and a really great bar. La Toscana is a great place for gathering also, because they have a quick moving and knowledgeable staff. And of course, if it's available try the s'more brownie sundae! read more

Tony provided excellent service at the bar area high top for two, fast, and food came out hot. Meatballs might be the best I've had. It was light in flavor, many may want more salt, which was what I expected but no it was pretty clean, like home cooking where you minimize seasoning to be healthy. No chew/no teeth meatballs is what I'm calling it. Omg melt in your mouth, no joke, melts. Gnocchi - pesto, super soft and tender, I was expecting sautéed seared but boiled and tossed in sauce is very delicate and smooth. I like this texture as well as ones that are a bit charred and more al dente. Spinach ricotta ravioli, al dente, filling had texture of crab meat to me? But no it's vegetarian. Veal scallopini - Marsala wine sauce, love the texture of high end can mushroom. Potatoes super soft dip in the sauce. Broccoli and celery steamed, deep in the sauce. History

Established in 1985.

La Toscana is a family owned and operated Italian restaurant and bar located in Marin County. It was established in 1985 by Paolo Mori, his wife, Marilyn, and Michele Quilici. The owners all grew up in Lucca, Italy and immigrated to the U.S. in the late 1950s. They wanted to create an atmosphere that reminded them of home - a place where locals would gather to eat, meet friends and family and celebrate with food and wine as every Italian family does. Chef and co-- owner Giovanni Racanello joined La Toscana in 1986. Paolo and Marilyn's daughter, Laura Mori Riella, and youngest son, Michael Mori, joined the La Toscana team in 1992 and 2002, respectively. Paolo loved to make people feel welcome and, just like all the Moris, enjoyed his food and wine and loved to see others do the same. This is the proud tradition that La Toscana carries on.

02/12/2026. Came in to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We were seated promptly. Once seated we waited about 12 minutes before being approached by our waiter "Juan S" he asks us if we would like anything to drink besides water being short in his question. We wait a bit longer, approaches about appetizers, I order an appetizer, my son in laws Mother orders a salad. My appetizer comes, no salad, we await a bit, no salad. I waive down Juan whom has already been un attentive. He approaches, I say, she ordered a salad, he says you didn't order a salad, with a bit too much attitude. We all look at each other confused. So then he asks what kind of salad, she orders a Cesar. Salad shows up drop spins it on the table. Again sitting there with not much attention given by the waiter. Dinner shows up, drop spins all of our orders in front of each of us, again with attitude, waiter says , cheese? We say yes, waiter spoons it on as quickly and sloppily as possible. We eat. He later shows up, do you want dessert. We order and as I am ordering I mention it's my daughter's Birthday. Waiter Juan S brings our dessert, the dish I order is drop spun in front of my son in law, brings my daughter hers, pretty much just drops spoons in a pile on table, miserably sings happy birthday to her with us. Once done with dessert, we wait a bit again. Waiter brings us the bill, it has a 20% charge added to the bill for a large party. I flag down our waiter Juan S. I ask him the number of people in a group to constitute the large party fee. He says "5-6" . I say most places are "8" or more. He says different places have different rules, again he responded with attitude. Well guess what, we paid, Juan didn't get a tip! Just so you know, "TIPS" means To Insure Prompt Service. Service was not prompt and tips are earned for going above and beyond with excellent customer service . We will NOT ever return to La Toscana, POOR customer service, un attentive staff and mediocre food at $30 dollars a head. If you want to be an upscale establishment, Up the customer service, have a smile, speak kindly and remember, you are in business to wait on people that are expecting to pay for a good experience and good service. Everything I've had to eat here is good, but I keep returning to the petrale sole with lemon risotto and arugula salad. I can cook pretty good Italian food (my carbonara beats anything I've had in any restaurant) but I always tend to overcook fish and I've never made or eaten anywhere else risotto as good as this. And the whole is better than the parts, which is where the arugula comes in, with it's bitterness setting off the lemon in the risotto. read more
