They now have a cute shop at Haven City Market. Staff are very helpful and give recs based on your preferences. Tried the Iced Pumpkin Latte and Pumpkin concha today. The coffee was decent, couldn't really taste much of the pumpkin or spices. The concha on the other hand was delicious. Very soft and not overly filled with pumpkin cream. I ordered the Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso ($6.50 - 24oz). It's powerful, delicious coffee because it has four shots of espresso! I couldn't stop laughing as I gleefully sipped. (Note: Surprisingly, this location accepts cash. Most businesses inside the Haven City Market tend to be card only.) I arrived at La Vaquita Cafe (West Covina) on Thursday (around 9AM - Opening Time). This business is located inside the popular Haven City Market; parking is typically very competitive, but the parking was easy this weekday morning. Staff (receipt says Magen) is professional, welcoming, and hard working. Magen provided good recommendations, and Magen succinctly answered all my questions. The coffee took about four minutes. As mentioned, I ordered the Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso ($6.50 - 24oz). It's functional and tasty. I felt very awake after sipping. This coffee is also HUGE for such an affordable price point. When sipping, I immediately felt nostalgic.... This coffee made me think of Baskin Robbin's Mocha Cappuccino Blast. I felt my stress and tension float away as I sipped. Concerning ambiance, La Vaquita Cafe (West Covina) is located inside the Haven City Market (near the supermarket side). Still, this business felt very comfortable and clean. In addition, La Vaquita Cafe (West Covina) has access to customer internet because the Haven City Market also provides internet access. The passwords are typically hanging on several pillars. The Horchata Matcha was easily the star and genuinely one of the best drinks I've had all year, with the sweetness of the horchata pairing perfectly with the matcha. First of all, I'm a very indecisive person to start off so that comes with asking several questions. The barista/cashier didn't look or act bothered at all which I'm thankful for. They answered all of our questions and gave us suggestions based on our questions. We got 2 drinks, got 3 conchas, and got a gelatina. I do have to say the matcha was a 3.5/5 but the brown shaken espresso was a 5/5. They're located inside of the haven city building hidden in a small corner so don't give up because I also almost didn't find them The worker was kind and friendly. Plenty of seating around. However I wasn't the biggest fan of how the drinks tasted. Out of the two in my photo I prefer to have the horchata matcha. The matcha is pretty sweet and had a slight matcha taste but I would prefer more so I give it a 6/10. The coffee isn't bad either I think I just had higher expectations. This place is delicious, and the only reason I'm not giving full stars is because the drinks are very inconsistent. I try to order the same drink and I feel like it tastes different every time or they're out of something they need for the drink. It's great on one hand, because that means it's selling, but it sucks to drive to a location and consistently have to adjust my drink because of inventory. Second there were bugs inside the display cases flying around and landing on pastry. The only reason as to why I've yet to leave a review for La Vaquita is simply because I almost want to keep this establishment all to myself. My boyfriend and I visit La Vaquita Cafe at least twice a week, every week and we have yet to have a single bad, or even mediocre drink. Their coffee is strong and flavorful as well as their matcha. The syrups and cold foams they offer all taste homemade and every specialty drink flavor tastes exactly as it's described. The service is always quick and amazing, and the owner is so sweet! You can pretty much mix and match, and create your own drink as well when they have seasonal menus which offers so much variety. We never get tired of this place, and I don't think we will! We recently tried the Pumpkin Cheesecake latte- both the matcha and espresso versions and both were absolutely fantastic. The brown sugar matcha with maple cold foam was also delicious. I'm writing this as a constructive criticism. As a latina myself, I want to support latin-ownded small businesses. However I had a not so great experience at Vaquita at Haven City today. I asked for 2 specialty cold coffees and two hot chocolates. The cashier look perturbed at the hot chocolate request and asked another barista for help. I specified just chocolate & milk warmed. I guess there wasnt a button for that so they charged me for two "mexican mochas" in their place and said theyd make the adjustments. I delcared I did not want espresso just chocolate and milk and they obliged. SO i went to pay for 4 drinks total. The wait was very long, and the baristas did not look rushed or focused at all, the cashier even came out from behind the counter to chat with some friends who came to visit her even tho orders were BACKED UP and many parties were waiting for their drinks. I waited a total of 28 minutes and when they finally started on my two hot chocolates I noticed the barista reached for the mexican mocha powder. I called out to her thinking she had forgotten about the adjustments and she tried correcting me saying this is what I ordered. I apologized and explained to her I was requesting simple hot chocolate (chocolate & milk warm) but since there wasnt a button for that, they charged me for mexican mocha instead. She seemed confused even tho she was the barista who originally coordinated with the cashier 28 minutes earlier. Finally she understood what I was requesting and proceeded to make them. However, I dont think I should have been charged for two "mexican mochas" when in fact i just wanted chocolate milk. And the wait time could have been better if they focused and kept working. Also the back counter was completely messy, opened containers, unorganized, the staff looked confused even keeping track of their orders/tickets.
