Customer service was not good. Attitude of the person who waited on us was less than stellar. We are regulars and have been trying to give this restaurant a chance and the benefit of the doubt. We have even told friends about the restaurant because we want to see the neighborhood restaurant succeed. However, this will be my last time visiting this establishment. We've been meaning to try this spot and finally did - we chose to sit outside because their booths are super uncomfortable and that's pretty much all they have inside. Food was really good, margaritas were also very very good. Service unfortunately was very poor - given it was a Tuesday and we were sitting on the patio but it took a long time to get waters, silverware, margaritas that we ordered, etc. we were hoping this would be the spot for an easy quick Mexican food meal but it was honestly more painful than quick, we didn't get cheese with our fajitas - even if we asked for it probably wouldn't have gotten in time. Incredible! Let me begin by stating that we have an incredibly high bar for Tex-Mex, and dine out weekly to try different local varieties. We judge Tex Mex based on 4 things: frozen margarita texture/flavor/strength, chips and queso (cheese texture/flavor), beef fajita (quality/ flavor), and cheese enchiladas (again- cheese texture/quality). La Viva gets a "A+" across the board, and the hidden bonus is its GREAT prices and we love the location. Also the staff is attentive and great personality. It is apparent it's run by a superb owner/operator. It's absolutely the best Tex Mex option north of northern Heights/Oak Forest/Garden Oaks. And an added amazement: the tres leches is seriously the best we've ever ever had We have already recommended to all our friends and neighbors! And plan to be back weekly! We went here on a Sunday afternoon. We were expecting it to be a bit overwhelming with the church crowd, but it was quite the opposite. It was busy but it was very well handled. And the staff were very welcoming. The food was also really good, well seasoned. They still have a little cleaning to do as the seating and napkins had "new dust" on it and just needed to be wiped/lint rolled. Aside from that it was great, we'll definitely be back and excited to see how it will be after a few months under its belt. read more

Great staff and nice ambiance with plenty of tvs. Excited to come here more often during football season - the US Open was on while we ate lunch there. The food was excellent and came out quickly - I had the enchilada lunch special and my fiancée had the fajitas for one. I ordered delivery through the toast app. It went through and I got a message that a driver had been assigned shortly after, I got a message from toast that said something had gone wrong with the order and it wasn't going to happen. So I called La Viva and the manager said my order was right next to her ready to go. She found a staff person to deliver to me and I had my food in about 10 minutes! We stopped at La Viva for lunch after my daughter's softball game. The staff were nice and friendly, the food was ok. I had the picadillo tacos, daughter had the Mac n cheese and husband ordered the chicken enchiladas. They also have an outdoor area for kids to play. read more

Ok ok- all in our group were disappointed with the margaritas. Too sweet or too much of a bad mix or something. Not enjoyable. The food on the other hand was very good. New place in the old Berryhill spot. Staff was very friendly upon entering. Took a seat at bar for lunch. Chips and salsa were presented fast! Lunch menu taco (one) $14! Fourteen dollars for a taco? Not a competitive lunch menu at all. Doubtful we'll be back with so many options that at least give two tacos for less $. read more

I haven't been here yet, but I'm countering an absolute jerk's poor review of this place. He comes in 15 minutes before closing with an entire baseball team and was still served even though they couldn't even figure out where they all wanted to sit 5 minutes before closing. Food was really yummy--especially the white queso! The diablo margarita was super spicy and strong and the enchilada were rich and filling. My only complaint is that there were several items on the menu we were not told we not available until asked about them--for example my husband asked for the pork tacos and was only then told they didn't have them that day. It would have been helpful to know that upfront. Also, a "veggie" enchilada should contain veggies other than onions and bell peppers. Will likely be back, if nothing else just for the queso and margaritas! read more

BEWARE! This location completely dropped the ball this morning at brunch. Came in with my family and had 3 servers, the first of which was sent home apparently as we saw her leaving while we were there. Completely out of potatoes for brunch which was not communicated to us until 45 minutes into our meal after all but one of our group got there meals, all of which were supposed to have potatoes as a side. My fiance ordered potato egg and cheese tacos. They never came out, and when we asked our third server for an a la carte potato taco he had to ask what else would be on a breakfast taco... he had no knowledge of their brunch menu and was tasked with taking over a table already at a precarious stage in service. Manager Ana FINALLY came over and asked how everything was. I explained how bad the service and experience had been so far and we were offered complimentary dessert to address this dumpster fire of an experience. We declined as we had already lost faith in La Viva. Received the bill and paid full price for our meal which was incomplete and missing listed sides from the menu. Dont waste your time or money here, you will be disappointed. Food seemed like there was some promise but it's hard to enjoy when the service and response was so lackluster. Too many good Mexican restaurants in Houston to waste your time here. Was really hoping for a great meal but was embarrassed I brought my family here. read more

We have been to La Viva six times since they opened about two months ago, and it's been excellent every time. Great food and friendly service. Chips and Salsa are excellent. So far, we have tried and really like the Campechana, Guacamole, Queso Blanco, Beef and Chicken fajitas, Shrimp Brochette, Queso Flameado and Quesadillas. Good portions and reasonable prices. We really like the Classic Margaritas, too. Highly recommend this location. read more
