Corn and hatch pizza, pepperoni pizza
    Andie O.

This is such a cute little restaurant -- and it also happens to be woman‑owned, which I love supporting. There are a few different seating sections, and the two‑person tables are the perfect size for a date with a friend or a romantic night out. Long green curtains divide the space, but if you sit up front near the door, you get a direct view into the kitchen and can watch them prepare the food. It's cozy in a way that feels intentional. The drink menu is small but thoughtful: a couple cocktails, several wines, and a few beers. The food menu rotates every month or two with the seasons, which makes it fun to come back. I ended up at Howdy's because I saw a photo of their focaccia with whipped ricotta and hot honey -- and honestly, it was one of the best focaccias I've had in Austin. Perfect texture, perfectly seasoned. I didn't need the ricotta and hot honey, but when I did dip into it, the extra complexity was incredible. The pepperoni pizza uses cup pepperoni and comes topped with whipped ricotta and their cowgirl candy (hot honey with candied peppers), plus Reggiano and basil. And one of their new seasonal items -- the corn and hatch pizza -- is such a fun, light summer option. Their dough hits that ideal balance of pillowy and chewy. We originally ordered one pizza and fully planned to finish it after the focaccia, but we couldn't resist trying both. No regrets. We were actually excited to have leftovers. I didn't try the Caesar salad this time, but we saw one go out and it looked fantastic -- definitely on my list for next visit. With the menu changing regularly, I'm already looking forward to coming back in a month or two... although I might not be able to resist returning sooner for that corn pizza again. It's that good.

A friend and I checked out Howdy's for dinner and it did not disappoint! The restaurant is very cozy, and felt like I was in someone's dining room and got a peek into their world with the cute artwork and colors on the wall. We were greeted by the owner, Emily, who walked us through the wine options and helped us settle on our glasses. I had a chilled red which was so good and exactly what I was looking for. For food, we got the whipped ricotta and focaccia, Cesar salad, summer corn lasagna, and peaches and pepper pizza. The ricotta was wonderful, topped with honey and jalapeños to add the right amount of sweet heat to a savory dish. The focaccia was the perfect texture and level of doughy and fluffiness. The Cesar was perfectly crunchy with amazing croutons, and the peaches and peppers paired together very well with a garlic confit. But the star of the show was the summer corn lasagna. This is hands down one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. The basil cream was not overpowering but still very flavorful, the corn was cooked to the perfect texture, and the fresh pasta that Emily makes was delightful. I loved this dish so much I ordered one to go since the menu turns over often! Emily was also so sweet and took time to talk to us about her brainchild and the items on the menu. Overall, 10/10 experience. We will definitely be back to try the new menu items and make this our regular spot.

Some friends took us here for a birthday celebration, taking a chance because they'd never been…read morethere either. What a find! Rosé Gosé (note accents) is in an unassuming Airport Blvd location (right next to Jewboy Burgers, an Austin favorite). It is run by a couple from Belarus that came here right after Covid to open up a restaurant, with a sister in Minsk. Defying expectations, the menu is not Balkan at all. If anything, there is a strong Asian influence with poke bowls and a lot of seafood. But the menu also offers beef tartare on their raw bar menu, as well as a steak offering and grilled chicken. It's a diverse and adventurous menu, all the way from small plates to hefty mains and vegetable sides. For the dessert, try the pavlova, a meringue confection stuffed with coconut mousse and topped with lime sorbet and a grapefruit slice sidecar. Everything is superbly presented, and unquestionably fresh and healthy without veering into twigs and berries territory. The cocktail menu is also playful, with a lot of nontraditional glassware and slight spins on popular drinks; their version of a Paloma uses prosecco instead of a splash of soda. The servers are all dressed in rosé jumpsuits and very attentive. The space is amiable and elegant without being pretentious. The table spacing is a little close, so that conversations carry between guests. The table setting has some nice touches, like the little wooden bench that holds your fork and knife off the table. In European fashion, water can be asked for but it won't be served with ice. Plan on taking your time and enjoying course after course.

Rosé Gosé was a delightful Mother's Day lunch spot. It is a whole vibe, and it is uniquely French! When we walked in an artist was playing romantic music on his keyboard, which set the tone for the brunch. It is a small restaurant inside with a larger area of seating on the patio. Of course, our reservations were inside in the comforts of air conditioning. You immediately notice a wine wall hence the name Rosé Gosé. The restaurant has many windows which provide lots of natural light. The tables house miniature yellow roses and utensils sat in a small wooden block...very French. All the servers were dressed in mauve clothing that resemble scrubs from a hospital. If someone stepped out in a French beret, I would have fallen over. Our server, Sergey, immediately served us water and took our order. The restaurant was highlighted as a modern European bistro. The atmosphere was charming, elegant, and stylish making it ideal for a Mother's Day brunch. My hubby ordered a ribeye, eggs and French Fries. I ordered the avocado toast with salmon and egg whites. While I'm not a huge red meat eater, I tasted a piece of the hubs ribeye and it was nicely prepared. My avocado toast was yummy to the nth degree! Everything was perfect. The avocado was precisely cut and at the right level of softness. The salmon was chopped into tiny little squares and so enjoyable to eat. We could not be more pleased. With a name like Rosé Gosé you would expect their drinks to be superb. My hubby ordered a hibiscus tea, which was delightful. I ordered a mimosa that had high quality ingredients and was perfectly balanced...so smooth. We were also pleased with the drinks. This was the first time at Rosé Gosé, however, it definitely will not be the last.

I also just loved their overall vibe and how they made the experience feel so welcoming. We ordered a few appetizers: fried mozzarella, bruschetta, and meatballs. The fried mozzarella was so delicious! Crispy on the outside, cheese pull on the inside, and a nice marinara around it. The bruschetta was so refreshing! I loved how creamy the ricotta was and it was an overall amazing antipasti. My only complaint for that was that the toast was a bit too hard / crispy. The meatballs were like regular meatballs although on the larger side! I liked the sauce that it came with. We also had 3 pasta plates however I only remember the name of one of them. They were all delicious, though! Just by chewing all of the pastas, you can tell that they are all made in house. Perfectly chewy and the sauce is amazing! The rigatoni was so good with a hint of spice. You can't go wrong with rigatoni. We honestly walked into this restaurant thinking we wouldn't be full since the plates looked smaller but the plates were actually pretty deep! We all walked out spending $25 each and filled to the brim. All items were very good and they gave us a complimentary post card before we left. Neat place, I'll be back!

Up until it's final day Rebel Cheese has been excellent in food, atmosphere, and service. The space was always clean and there were plenty of foodstuffs to peruse in their store. On more than one occasion I got myself a bit of snacky vegan deliciousness to go. It wasn't all cheese, there were sauces, spreads, and sugary treats too. Every single cashier has been kind and friendly. The food always came out fresh and hot. Online ordering is easy and my products arrived right on time. No complaints! This is a great place to at least try to make the switch to vegan cheese. There are plenty of options and everything is flavorful.

Being a mail order customer isn't for the faint of wallet because it makes sense to order at least six cheeses at a time, and that's not a small amount of money. Trying to factor in the timing is also part of the experience. Some of their cheeses can be frozen, and some are recommended to not be, like the brie. They recommend consuming the cheeses within 7 days of opening. It's just my husband and me in the household, so finishing a whole package of cheese in a week's time could be daunting. Speaking of the brie, it wasn't my favorite of the selection I received, which was a curated collection of Lorie's from Shark Tank. When we first got the delivery Dear Hubby and I set up a charcuterie tray for ourselves as a late lunch / early dinner. So many wonderful tastes! It was a delightful experience to mix the cheeses with crackers, salamis, Mediterranean olives, and fruit / jam. The sweet chevre offering was divine. Might have been my favorite. We opened four of the cheeses to sample them and left two for later. It's been wonderful for me to have better vegan cheeses than what the local grocery stores tend to stock. Real flavor! Real creaminess! With the holidays approaching, I'm considering when to place another order to carry me through the time when having special cheese would add to the edible side of the season.

With this place coming up on almost 500 Yelp reviews and sitting at four+ stars, that says something. It's located at a convenient location on 51st just a few blocks from I 35 and sits at the corner of Lancaster beneath three stories of apartments. There's only about six parking spaces available in front of the restaurant, otherwise you'll have to park in some other retail spaces further away. Inside it's quite small and intimate with about a dozen tables on the floor and 8 chairs at the bar. They do post some daily specials on the board when you walk in or you can stick to the menu. They do have a wine menu, but it's only limited to 22 choices at 2-3 times retail. We started off with some fried cheese ravioli and calamari. I loved the light breading on the calamari rings and no tentacles were included. My main course of chicken Parmesan was some of the best I've ever had. My guest enjoyed his entrée of shrimp and muscles. We washed it all down with a glass of their organic primativo. We then finished it all off with a dense chocolate fudge cake. You can easily spend $200 a couple for apps, entrées, wine, dessert, and tip. We showed up on a Friday evening without a reservation and there was just a few people in the restaurant, but it's best to make reservations for Valentines. If you're looking for pizza, you won't find it on the menu here. It's a place I'd come back to. Check out the informative photos.

Fun and casual neighborhood Italian-American restaurant…read more I've been meaning to try this place since I first drove by when I moved to Austin years ago. I had a hunch this would be the perfect spot to take my father, who loves classic Italian-American food, so I made sure to bring him along for my first visit. The ambiance is quite quirky, quaint, and fun. It's very casual, and has an obvious Italy theme to it. It's not fancy, but it is a great time. The wait for a table was non-existent and in general the place was never too crowded (despite being somewhat on the smaller side). Parking can be a bit odd, because the primary parking lot is one way with parking spots only on the right side of the thoroughfare. If they run out of space there is a large parking lot behind the building. The service wasn't bad. It was our primary server's first day on the job, so she was learning the menu alongside us. What she lacked in knowledge of the menu, she made up for in being polite and speedy. We enjoyed our food overall. In general, it was your standard classic Italian-American fare, and the fettuccine alfredo (which I normally am not the biggest fan of) was my favorite on the menu. Overall, I'd recommend this as a solid casual spot to check out.
