Ok I work on base and decided to go to subway. On my way there I noticed they finally opened. Stop in and got a brisket sandwich with baked beans. And gotta say it was pretty damn good. Over in Plaquemines Parish there's some serious smoking going on. Smoked pulled pork, ribs, chicken, brisket and sausage, that is. Named for the highway where it's located, this casual eatery may well be serving the best bbq in Louisiana. Pull into their ample parking lot and order at the window, then take your treasure over to a table under the large, roofed in area; all dining is al fresco here, and on a hot day the fans keep it cool. On both my visits I had the 2 meat combo with ribs and pulled pork. These ribs are meaty and well seasoned with a somewhat assertive dry rub that tastes of black pepper. There's a little heat there, but the flavor of these perfectly smoked ribs really shines through. In my opinion, ribs that "fall off the bone" are over cooked, and these folks get that; these ribs have a little snap, a bit of tooth, and are juicy and delicious. Their slightly sweet and tangy red bbq sauce is a good match for these ribs, although they're perfectly tasty without any sauce at all. The pulled pork isn't over handled, and still contains enough fat to keep it moist, with a great smoke flavor that marries well with the mustard based sauce that sits at the table. I like both the cole slaw, which is simple and fresh, and the saucy baked beans as sides. On our most recent visit we struck up a conversation with one of the owners, and, after my husband told him he had the best barbecue in Louisiana, he gifted us with a house made beef, cheddar and jalapeño sausage, so we got some lagniappe with our lunch. This sausage is made with brisket trimmings, and I'd say it's a great use for them. Not too spicy and well seasoned. To make food this good requires skill and a good palate, and I appreciate their expertise. I'll most definitely be back! read more

This place was pretty good. I was impressed that they gave me a pretty generous sample of brisket when we went for lunch. The cheese and jalapeño sausage was delicious and so was the mac n cheese. I was a little disappointed they didn't have sweet tea, only sodas. I feel BBQ and sweet tea go hand in hand. The only downfall is that I think it was pretty expensive. read more

We drove on and off the base for a week smelling the wonderful aroma but never had time to stop. On our last day we finally made the effort. So glad we did. Staff was beyond nice, made sure you liked the food and spent time talking with everyone. Now to talk about the food. Can not say enough about how great it was. Wow! My husband and I stopped here on our last day in NoLa and I am so glad we did. This place is so good. I got the brisket plate with Mac and beans. The meat was basically melting in my mouth. I've been here 3x's before the sign of horror (OUT OF FOOD) is placed outside. I'd really like to give this place the full 5 stars, but can't because my sides are never consistent. I get my usual baked beans and mac and cheese; and the last 2 times I couldn't eat them. One time my mac and cheese tasted like Alfredo sauce was mixed in it :( and the last time my beans were flavorless and watery :( I have no complaints about the meat, and have to honestly say: this is the best BBQ place on the WB!! We finally managed to make it here before they ran out of food today, which I consider to be a success in itself since I tend to not even contemplate lunch about 1, and by then it is too late. To combat that, we made a plan yesterday that I would pick some up when I got home from the gym, thus my sweaty, smelly mess made a beeline! The man wanted pulled pork, I wanted everything, and our son just wanted food so I got a pulled pork plate for him and added brisket, as well as the 1/2 chicken and 2 ribs plate for myself so we could share. We both had beans and coleslaw, since gluten is an issue in our family, barring us from the mac and cheese. The yankee I married was upset I didn't get him sauce for his pork, but he got over it and enjoyed the meat anyway. Everything was delicious, but, guys, the brisket is seriously the best. I may have died for a moment upon my first bite. It was tender, smokey, well seasoned, meaty, with just enougb fat for flavor but not so much that I felt I spooning lard into my mouth. It was etherial. FINALLY I've had good smoked meat that I didn't make in Louisiana! Not just good, though, that brisket was a spiritual experience. Eat it, but not before I get there. The beans were also excellent, well cooked without being mushy, well seasoned in a sauce just sweet enough but not tooth pain sweet, and the sausage gave it a great smokey touch. The coleslaw was crisp with just enough dressing to be dressed but not swimming. My son also enjoyed the toast, I can't comment because bread makes me unplesant to sit near. When I ordered my chicken at 11:20, the man taking my order had to make sure they still had birds, so make sure you show up early. Or don't. More meat for me! They also have an ice chest with water, Coke Diet Coke, and Sprite for you to grab when you place your order, and some bottles of sauce with a warning that good barbecue needs no sauce. We decided to come to LA BBQ after ourworkout with my supervisor because we worked on base across the street form here. The service was excellent. Fast and friendly. The food however, I ordered the BBQ brisket plate for $15 which was absolutely not worth it. The meat was dry and not even warm when I got my plate. The BBQ sauce in the bottle that are on the tabletop barely had any BBQ flavor and runny watery consistency. On a positive note, their beans and Mac and cheese is pretty damn good though. Would not go here again for BBQ though. read more

Pulled pork was great, the sides not so much. I found the slaw to be totally dry. Then the mac and cheese to be way too smokey, it was over powering and I couldn't eat more than a couple bites. Next time I'll order by the pond and fix the sides at home. read more

I love my BBQ so I don't take my pulled pork reviews lightly. :-) The pulled pork sandwich was very tender and flavorful. Skimped a little on the slaw but nothing that couldn't be fixed, but glad I checked while I was still there; I do like my slaw on my sandwich. The mac and cheese was damn good and I like their BBQ sauce. Very nice staff. Food almost as good as The Joint. Practically in my back yard, so I'm pretty excited to have such a great BBQ place so close. One downfall: I don't like that they close when they run out of food. On a busy day that could be early afternoon so they're unpredictable but that will just have you drooling for them the next time... Worth the wait. read more

Are you kidding! I stopped on the way back up from a saltwater convention in Buras, LA. I got the Brisket Sandwich with pickles and slaw. Mac and cheese and a jalapeño cheese sausage link. I live in TX and have had some of the top BBQ in TX. This is the best Brisket sandwich I have had to this point. Crazy good! I'm grading the food. Be ready for eating outdoors next to a highway but such a great effort. Across from the air base so plenty of traffic during the week. read more

While I don't think this place would make the top 50 in the state of TX, it would hold its own, and is certainly the best I've had in the state of LA. This place is awesome! We were looking for a quick bite for lunch, and they did NOT disappoint. I had the pulled pork sandwich with mac & cheese and side of their jalapeño & cheddar sausage. The sandwich was loaded with tender meat, and came with a a side of slaw and pickles to put on top. The sausage was so good, with a touch of heat. My MIL got a brisket sandwich, and she had meat leftover. My husband had the top gun with the pulled pork, chicken, and ribs. He thought it was great. They were so nice! They sent me home with containers of their two BBQ sauces. The only downside is that they sell out pretty quick so better call and make sure they have meat left! Have tried for a 10 visits to Belle Chasse to get food from here, without success. Even called ahead to place an order at 1PM, stated they could not take an order for one for pickup at 3:30, but requested I call thirty minutes out, because they "had plenty of food." I did exactly that, and then said "we're out of food." Every single afternoon for the past two weeks I call to check and they're out of food. Hours are listed until 7PM, which is an absolute BS time. That's never happened at any point in their business history. The food is good, but generally speaking the customer service concern is severely lacking. They have a mentality that as long as they continue to sell out of food that they don't have to worry about the volume of people that have a schedule and work for a living. read more

Great BBQ! Always fast service! Great atmosphere for eating BBQ! 4 instead 5 stars because it's a little pricey.

The pulled pork is probably my favorite thing in the menu. I just wish it was hickory smoked instead of mesquite.
