We decided to try Lachi Fine Indian Cuisine after checking out the Farmers Market. It's next door to Angry Vegan. We dropped in on a Saturday (around 1:00pm). The inside is spacious with plenty of tables. Our server wasn't talkative but came by several times to refill ones to refill our waters. The menu is typical Indian fare but we were here to try their lunch specials (available until 2:30pm). Their dinner special ($32.95 for 2) seems like a great deal. We were asked how spicy we wanted our meal (we opted for medium). - Aloo gobi adraki ($9.95) - more of a home style, comforting take on aloo gobi. Plenty of rice and the naan (sprinkled with parsley) was fresh. - Lamb saag ($11.95) - it's an extra $1.00 to substitute for lamb/beef but totally worth it. Lamb was tender and included a couple of chunks. Satisfying, tasty eats at Lachi. Will be back for more next time we're in town. read more

I couldn't believe how good the Indian food here is considering it's Penticton. We ordered the dinner special for only $32! Lamb Saag (sooo tasty if you like herbs) and lamb Rogan josh (also very good if you like tomato based) - lamb was very well cooked, tender. Comes with lots of rice and the garlic naan is loaded with butter, garlic and parsley. Definitely enough food for two very hungry people. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the samosa, the skin was too thick and doughy rather than thin and flaky. read more

When you're in Penticton and you're looking for some excellent Indian food, Lachi is where it's at. Though we arrived about 7:00pm on a Saturday night and they were busy, we were seated without a wait at a table for two near the front window. Service was very attentive, without being overbearing. As per our M.O., we wanted to try a sampling of everything, but we settled on a number of dishes. All the food was excellent and we'd highly recommend you try your favorite dishes here. We had the beef samosas, lamb saag, and tandoori chicken which were all very good. We also had the Palak paneer, which was ammmmazing. I eat a lot of spinach paneer, and Lachi's is in my top three all time favourites. Their flavour profile was great: complex, yet balanced. I can't wait to go back and have some more. read more

This is my absolute favourite place in all of Penticton to have a meal, especially lunch! The 'butter chicken lunch special' is the best bang for your buck and delicious. A rich, generous helping for only $10.60. I can't get enough of this place. It comes out in less than 5 minutes of ordering and it's always perfect. The only thing I could say about this place is sometimes the spice is inconsistent. I always order a level 3 spice, but sometimes it's more hot than others. Nothing you can't enjoy. It's the best Indian restaurant I've been able to find in the interior, the owner when working automatically puts you on the tip screen which is irritating because I always tip but hate being essentially that I MUST. Lunch special is amazing value, good lord almighty. Came here for dinnerCame in for dinner with a group for nine people. We made reservations for 6pm and was quickly seated. It's not a very large restaurant so reservations would be a good idea for a larger party. It was not very busy when we first arrived but by the time we ordered and our food started to arrive, the restaurant had already filled up. My boyfriend and I shared a 2 can dine dinner combo; you can choose two dishes and it comes with naan, raitia, salad and basmati rice for $29.95. We had the butter chicken and the lamb korma. We also added an extra side of garlic naan. Both curries were absolutely amazing. They had a good amount of spice and were very delicious. My boyfriend wanted to lick the plate clean. Lachi is a great Indian restaurant serving great quality curries. This and Ashoka are the two best Indian restaurants in Penticton. Small typical cosy atmosphere with friendly staff. Wait times can be a bit long. But a good experience. read more

I was fortunate enough to find this hem a while ago. Thought I had written a review back then but it slipped my mind I guess. Great food, excellent options for everyone, generous portions and pretty fast. Service was great. They do a great job of catering to those who aren't too sure of Indian food but they give you something that's a little less westernized. The portions are deceiving. It may not look like much, but you're going to leave very full. Naan was on the mark. Customized spice level on your dish. Medium is still pretty tame, but I'm sure if you ask them to make it as spicy as they would for themselves. We went on Mother's Day and they added custard and jelly to the order at no charge. Not my thing, but the custard lover at the table couldn't get enough. I make a point of going back regularly for my flavour fix. Nothing beats it. read more

We stood outside wondering whether to go in, when a chap said "you ought to try it. Best Indian food I've had." I asked if he'd eaten here much, and he replied "40 times in 18 months". I'm a fish eating vegan and celiac (all allergies). The server 'got' what I could eat and we ate sumptuously. I would say it was reasonably priced for the quality (and quantity) of the food. Take out is my preference so my rating is based on food quality. I have ordered a double order of Butter Chicken, Rice, and Naans 3 times now. I am absolutely hooked. Incredibly tasty sauce, quality chicken, and, save the one time they were overcooked, amazing naans. I only wish I could figure out their phone answering system so I could preorder my food to go. I've tried calling in two of the three times I ordered, always had to send the hubby in to order and wait because we couldn't connect via telephone. read more

I was a strong supporter of Lachi from day one when they arrived in Penticton and have written many positive reviews because of it, before moving to Calgary last year my husband and I ordered Lachi on a weekly basis and loved every single bit of it! We came home to Penticton since moving and looked forward to our usual order there were 8 of us and we orders at 5:30 knowing an order that large would take time it is now 8:30 and we still have no food and have called several times both the delivery and the restaurant service and both passing the buck on eachother both rude and unhelpful to the last call saying we're closed and hanging up on us! If you can't handle the service say that instead of having us wait around for three hours we WERE all big fans before this! read more

We had our cousin n his family visit us from Utah who were Indian food virgins. Boy oh boy I was nervous to know if they would like it -they love spicy- so that part I wasn't worried about- so....they absolutely loved it!!!! Pheew! We ordered the 2 can dine x2. Best way to try it. Comes with rice, salad, naan and 2 curries. We had the butter chicken- of course- the vindaloo, the Alogobi, and the curry lamb- we ended up ordering more of the vindaloo and lamb- seriously the food was amazing it just melted in your mouth I had to close my eyes and look away to not keep eating- ! I just couldn't stop! I wish we could bring and extra stomach along :) I love Indian food and this was an incredible find. The waitress Michelle was so sweet and patient (had a party of 8- including. 2 toddlers) she was very knowledgeable, (she was clearly not from Indian descent), explain all to us in detail, was attentive and the rest of the staff was so sweet too! So smiley and courteous( sometimes when is not their table and you ask them for something they get all " is not my table why are you asking me lady " but here : just flawless service! We,ve eaten here quite a few times now, and the food has always been excellent, with service to match. As far as I can tell, the recipes are authentic and freshly-made. The times we've gone with a large group, the kitchen has never kept us waiting for our food. It's is particularly remarkable because they also do a roaring take-out trade in the midst of serving the sit-down guests as well. My only beef is that the place is downright chilly when it's cold outside, so I can't give them 5 stars. read more

Great food BUT do not order delivery. The delivery is a set $8 and last time I waited over an hour and a half for my order. They did say it would be an hour and I thought that was too long! When I called they were not apologetic and the customer service was none existent. For a place that is always busy they have no loyalty to regular customers and prices for delivery are over the top. Oh did I mention the food was cold. Not surprising considering the time it took to get to me. Even the delivery driver said he goes elsewhere for Indian cuisine! Do not go if you have a service dog, they made me leave even after explaining that I have a medical service dog and that it's legally considered discrimination to deny me access/service because of my service dog- and therefore disability. They continued to 'argue' and talk over me, saying if I wanted food I would have to order take-out. Should have followed our gut instinct when we entered the restaurant by turning on our heels and marching out. It smelled as though someone was smoking in the kitchen. I thought maybe someone was by the door and the smell was being pulled in. It didn't dissipate in the 25 minutes we were there. The decor was kept in a state of disrepair or ambivalence. We ordered 3 veg dishes, 2 chai teas and 1 lassi. We informed the waitress that we don't eat meat fish or eggs. She said that she couldn't guarantee that the chai tea didn't have eggs in it!! We ordered the lachi veg platter appy plus a veg biryani and a shahi paneer While we waited for a long time to receive our appies, the staff were very loud at the bar. Laughing and joking loud enough that it interrupted our conversation a few tables away. Very disruptive and rude. The smell in the restaurant is still very strong at this point. Waitress brings out 2 chai teas and lassi. They were good. She was trying to tell me that they were made fresh on the stove (meaning fresh whole spices) but I could see some of the powder (from a box) spilled on the handle. That's fine. 3 shots of powdered tea for 3$... Then about 10 minutes later out she comes with a gigantic platter of horrible looking deep fried food. All one, dirty oiled colour with a selection of about 6 items. We nibbled at it. The chutneys were good. But the food itself was horrible. Horrible. The menu did not indicate that this menu item was 100% deep fried. Important detail. At this point we've been there for 25 minutes. Hungry and disgusted, My husband cancels our order and pays for what we've eaten and we left. Having eaten authentic Indian food as well as cooked it we could see the chefs simply don't care. Please save your money and time. Don't bother. Unless these people hire new wait and cook staff, revamp their menu and slap a coat of paint on the walls, I won't be going back again. read more
