Other reviews concentrated on this business "taking over" the public beach with chairs & umbrellas...this is not an issue for me, it's an opportunity for Lack's to sell their services, obviously they are licensed to do so...and there is plenty of sand to stake your claim if you choose not to rent. Onto my review...we enjoyed a girls' weekend at MB Resort (Renaissance Tower-excellent rental!) and went down early to rent an umbrella/chairs. We not only received excellent customer service from Lack's but kindness & patience. I believe Brad? was working that day and didn't waste any time or effort in setting up equipment to prepare for the day. As he had time, he worked with us to get a good location to soak up the sun. We paid only $40 for an umbrella & 3 chairs for one day, which is a reasonable rate compared to other beaches we've visited. Think about it...are you gonna buy your own chairs/umbrella and haul it home on a plane? Stuff it on top of your car? Throughout the day, he'd walk by and check in with us. As well, he was busy talking with beach-goers as he walked the beach - and yes, he was watching the swimmers in the ocean. Of course, he's easy on the eyes, so we were probably watching him way more than we should have, but hey - it was a girls weekend and we're all single. When we were in the last half-hour or so of our day, I was snapping some pics of him to add to our weekend memories and he indulged me by posing for a few. (such a cutie!) Everything about that day only added to our relaxing, much-needed, break from life. Sometimes, indulging a few dollars on a nice wooden beach chair and heavy umbrella is worth it when you just need to take care of you. Had a very disappointing encounter with Lack's yesterday morning. My husband and I set up our beach chairs in the front row only to learn that Lack's had our chairs and umbrella removed so they could take our spot for their rental chairs. To make even worse not only were our chairs taken down they were thrown down along with our neighbors. This is the 2nd time this happened and decided to share my frustration. Rather than receiving an apology they cite the law and rules. Lack's manager displayed zero customer service. Just a heads up for you. Next time 1. apologize and kindly share the rules. 2. consider marking your area to avoid having others setting up chairs/umbrella in your designated area and 3. Post the rules so we are all aware of them before starting the game. I will never recommend your service. Good thing you are locked in with the city otherwise you would fail! This is a completely up and down service. First day we rented was okay; the attendants did a middling job kicking out non-payers. Second day was a complete sh*t-show. We pay good money to rent these chairs, yet the family next to us just plopped down and attendants said nothing. Then we do complain, repeatedly, because a group of people put up two umbrella between our chairs and the next set of chairs, was smoking, and just blasting Spanish music. Attendant comes over, tells them they can't sit here, Spanish guys act like they don't understand. Attendant walks away. We go complain again, same result. So now we have decided to leave the beach because the smoking and loud music has completely ruined our beach time. Had we known that we didn't have to pay, we wouldn't have. Next year I'll just bring my own chair and create my own spot in their umbrella line. read more

My dog got hit by one of the drivers had to take him to the vet emergency. The driver did not help, and then my sister the next morning went to their office to see if we could get some Assistance because my dog is in critical condition. and the Manager of this establishment said that, even if the dog dies, it doesn't matter. Always a consistently great experience with Lacks in front of the Marriott. Lifeguards are competent, attentive to swimmers, and personable. I rent chairs/umbrella for the week and it's very convenient. I don't have to haul all my own set up, Lacks is a big reason why I stay at the Marriott so often. However, I do see see a lot of rude and demanding guests ignoring the lifeguards calls to come in closer when guests stray too far out in the ocean, ignoring the lifeguard's dangerous condition flags and then act put out when they get in trouble. Mind the beach rules and you'll have a great, safe time. For a public beach, I've always felt very safe there. Been staying there every summer for 10 years. read more

Doesn't matter which lifeguard you get. Call the office? Good luck getting a call back. Are you a seasonal renter? You'll be in good hands. You can sit in your chair until 5:00pm. Daily or weekly renter? You better be up and moving by 4:00 sharp. Chairs l/umbrellas are lacking in quality and upkeep. Unfortunately, not many other options besides lugging your stuff on the beach. We paid up front! 500.00 In the past the lifeguards were really great. They insured no umbrellas in front of ours. We always had a clear view of the ocean. This life guard was always sleeping! Umbrellas were erected rite in front of us. We asked him to move umbrella right in front of us two days in a row. We enforced it the first day and the second day insisted lifeguard do his job as the people were right in front with towels and toys right up to our chairs. Instead of telling them the rules, the life guard told the people WE WERE BOTHERING THEM!! And made them move. From there on in it was very uncomfortable for every one. We went to the beach on 6/19/22. It was a peak beach day and none of their staff was anywhere to be found, so we couldn't get a chair. We returned on 6/23 at around 3PM. We saw some empty chairs and decided to sit down. A staff member then came and kicked us out. They told us it would be $40 for to rent the chairs, even though it would only be 1 hour since they shut down at 4PM. Suffice to say, we passed on that deal. We then watched them pull the same thing with another group then watched them promptly kick paying customers out of chairs at 4PM. Don't waste your time with this brainless, non-customer service friendly group. You can buy chairs for the same price they charge for 1 hour of use. read more

I brought my family/friends with a 3 month old baby. Our A/C is out at our house so we thought we could spend the day at the beach. We were set up behind lifeguard tower L-16 and L-15. We got there at 1:30pm on 8/6/2022 the employees refused to give me their names. We had a canopy which we learned wasn't allowed, which is totally fine we figured out something that could work. The guy at stand L-16 was extremely rude and has ruined this entire trip for us. We had three different encounters with him and each time he was even more disrespectful from the last. He got the lady from stand L-15 to do his dirty work and yell at people. I asked her for her name and she laughed in my face and asked why. I told her I needed to get in contact with the beach patrol and she proceeded to laugh again and to call a certain number and still then refused to give us her name. I eventually tracked down beach patrol and learned they were okay with our set up. The guy from L-16 came over once again trying to get us to take it down. Another couple with their 1 year old had the same encounter with the same guy. I contacted the beach patrol again and he said to contact their managers but yet didn't know how to cause "he doesn't work this area often." To where I learned the previous phone number was a fake number. The guy from tower L-16 ran up cause he saw me talking to the patrol again, as he proceed to yell at us saying "shame on you! You are stupid Americans!" The beach patrol guy asked him to leave cause he was making the situation worse, as more people started coming up to complain about him and the girl at tower L-15 (I believe I heard their names were Mark and Julie but I could be wrong). I am saddened to say I will never be coming to this beach again and this place has lost all business based off of this encounter. Action needs to be taken read more

Lazy. At the Ocean Club we have 40 umbrellas with chairs. It is "supposed" to be 20% of chairs can be reserved via an online system and the other 80% are first come first serve. Sounds good to me! Well the reservation system is am or pm (9 am -1pm or 1:30pm - 4:30pm) The lazy lifeguard puts reserved on all the am + pm chairs in the morning. For example, yesterday there were 12 reservations for the am and 10 for the pm so essentially only 12 chairs should of had reserved on them (actually if it is only 20% can be reserved it technically should of been 8 chairs) but he put reserved on 20 chairs so now 1/2 of all chairs cannot be used. My family stayed at the Marriott Myrtle Beach this past July. We got our weekly chairs and umbrella rental from the lifeguard (who was very nice). She told us to pick our chairs and would be over in a few minutes to put the rental tag with our name on a chair (there are signs on each set of rental chairs with your name). Those not rented have a sign that tells you to go to lifeguard and rent or do not sit there. The few minutes turned into an hour. Suddenly a young man walks up to my husband and asks him if he can read. What?! My husband replies yes and this guy very rudely demands "Read this sign for me." My husband does and we both tell him that we did rent them, but the lifeguard never came back with our ticket. I show him the receipt and he says nothing to us. No apology, not one word out of his mouth. I understand people try to sit down without paying but after seeing our receipt the least he could have done was apologize. He comes back with the receipt, marches right up to the chair my husband is sitting in and without saying one word, not even "excuse me" slaps the thing on the chair. The entire week he glared at us as if we were criminals. I couldn't believe it. The audacity of the guy. As others have posted, they do throw you off the chairs at 4pm. We certainly didn't dare leave even a minute after 4 for fear "rude, jerk" guy would attack us. The chairs are really old and rickety. Uncomfortable and need to be replaced. The umbrellas are set so far into the sand even I had to duck to get to my chair under it (I am 5ft 2in.) Very, very disappointing experience. I would NEVER rent from them again. I would endure being banished to the line behind their rental chairs. That's another ridiculous thing - as if they own the beach. read more

Our family usually goes to Rehoboth or Dewey Beach. This was our first time at Mrytle. The life guards were not attentive to the water at all . I have seen much better life guarding practices at water parks and public pools . They spent their entire time setting up Beach chair rentals and not allowing those who brought their own chairs to a public beach to breach the rental line. Most chairs and umbrellas were not rented and empty for the day. They really need to learn from Dewey and Rehoboth who also have less issues with drowning compared to Mrytle Beach. When at other beaches you can always have eyes on a life guard and be aware of their hand signals. This was not the case here. This is a dangerous situation waiting for more disasters. read more

Rented our beach chairs/ umbrella from a very pleasant young man for a 4 day period $115.00 total from June 27th 2023 through the 30th. We explained that we would like our chair to be in the front row of to keep and eye on our 2 year old and 10 year old grand daughters. When we arrived at the beach on day two our reserved chair wasn't available and we were told, "Just find one people moved everything around today". I gave the young man a generous tip the first day also, boy was that a mistake. Lazy people who acted annoyed and bothered them when we asked questions about our beach chair, then expected us to do his job and find an open chair. We couldn't find one in the front row to view our grandchildren so we sat in the sun all morning. Not acceptable. Absolutely terrible service, don't rent days in advance or risk the fact that rude inconsiderate people may take your reserved chair without regard or concern for you. read more

lifeguard I was waiting for my 8 year old granddaughter and I needed to wait two minutes for her . The lifeguard told me "I had to fucking move NOW and he didn't care about my granddaughter. He was very aggressive. I moved. On Thursday afternoon my adult children witness another altercation with this lifeguard. The lifeguard ask a gentleman to move his umbrella back 10 feet from the hard sand ( there were several people doing the samething) he only asked this gentleman to move. The lifeguard again was aggressive with his gentleman. He was so aggressive with the gentleman another lifeguard came and took the lifeguard away. This Is unacceptable behavior from your staff. This was on first time there we had no idea what the chair rules were. Your lifeguard owe me an apology. Your lifeguard owes the gentleman an apology for being a racist ass since he only.asked the African American to move not anyone else. This is deplorable behavior The lifeguard should be fired. For years they have rented seasonal umbrellas and chair which was great for families with handicap children. Upon calling to reserve our seasonal umbrella and chair at Ocean Lakes Camp Ground we were told due to resource issues they were NOT renting seasonal umbrellas this year. This was sad based on their reasoning i guess no umbrellas and chair will be setup. LOL. It takes same resource to setup umbrellas and chairs to difference here is the money. The weekly rates they make more money. We know elders & handicap folks who need this service at a discount seasonal rate that will cause those folks not to come to the beach. So with all this said I am recommending others to boycott and not use their umbrella service. I hope their lifeguard needs are not based making more money. read more

Though I respect and appreciate the hard way to the life guards do to protect us at the beach, the rental of beach chairs and umbrellas is totally lacking in professionalism. I had a seasonal rental for over 7 years, but suddenly they will not honor the annual commitment. Unfortunately they seem to have a monopoly on the beach, so we will have to rent elsewhere and drive rather than walk to the beach. Extremely disappointed. Was very disappointed with the professionalism of the lifeguards today at section L-16. I spent about four hours at the beach. The gentleman lifeguard spent about three of those hours away from his chair and down at the next chair with a female lifeguard who was obviously his partner. The one hour he was at his chair, his girlfriend lifeguard was down at his chair now, and they were just giggling and kissing each other. When she wasn't around, he was looking at his phone instead. In total, I spent more time watching the people in the water than the actual lifeguards. Normally, I don't care about how people work if it doesn't effect me, but this is a job where it's important to be paying attention. Thankfully my husband and I are comfortable in the water so I wasn't concerned for us, but those families that aren't so great with ocean changes and waves should be a little more concerned that there isn't anyone watching to make sure they're safe. read more

They sell you a service and take your hard earned money up front and then do not come through with the service. When you call the office the operation manager talks to you reckless and disrespectful. Never once apologizing for the service which wasn't followed through with. Instead she says "we are short staffed and Iam hanging up on you. " After calling back and talking to the owner who processed to defend his employee. After further review I discovered this was his daughter. We are staying in the Hampton Inn and Suites at Myrtle beach and have enjoyed our stay except for the Lack's Beach Service which has taken over the public beach outside the hotel. They line up their beach chairs and you cannot put your chairs and umbrella between them or in front of them. Walked down to the water and looked back and there was a utility vehicle seating next to the chairs. So I walked back the guy tells me he rents them fine how much I'm thinking $20 nope $40 what a ripoff. So I tell the guy look it's after 2pm we are only going to be here a hour are two and will be here all week so how about $20 since it's so late in the day nope $40 needless to say he won't be getting any business from me for the week. read more

Prior to going to North Myrtle beach, I did some research on chair and umbrella rentals. Since I was flying and not driving, I was trying to determine what was more economical, renting beach gear or buying and leaving behind what I bought. A quick online search of the North Myrtle Beach parks and rec website reveals that umbrella and two chair rentals are $25 a day. Steep to me, but worth it to not have to buy and schlep our own stuff. Well, imagine my surprise when it just so happened that the stretch of beach in front of the property I was staying at did NOT fall under the purview of the North Myrtle Beach parks & rec division, but was under the auspices of a private company, the Lack's Beach Service. Oh, and guess what...umbrella rentals are $40 a day on this "special" part of the beach. Ok, if you decide up front that you're going to rent for more than one day, then subsequent rentals are cheaper. Here's the kicker though, you need to that ahead of time. I'm on an unstructured vacation...I don't know what my daily beach plans are. I asked the lifeguard if he would honor the second or third day rate if I spent more time at the beach and he said he would. So, after being all day at the beach on a Monday...spending $40.....we didn't have a day where we spent another FULL day at the beach until Friday, where it would have been worth it to rent another umbrella. Guess what...the lifeguard...the same guy, has no recollection of me and my family renting on Monday, even with me showing him the receipt and he says he has to charge me the full $40 again. So that's $80 for two full days of umbrella and chair rental. Let me tell you, while the chairs and umbrellas were operational, they were by no means in pristine condition. Rust & visible wear very noticeable, albeit they did the job. However, nobody wants to come to the beach and feel like they are being scammed, especially in the name of safety. In my opinion, if the TOWN north of you is charging a respectable $25, how about staying close to that. $40 is an outrage. $80 will take you very far in terms of buying beach gear at the local Wings or Tsunami beach gear stores. If you follow this rule, this private business should not be renting beach chairs and umbrellas with the intent of saying "we are taking care of your safety on the beach". I'm not from Myrtle, but I don't know which corrupt government politician allowed for this company to operate on the beaches. Horrible service. Are they lifeguards or sales people? I really couldn't tell. The life guard outside of South Bay Inn & Suites was off duty more than on duty; chair was empty for significant periods of time in the middle of the day. When someone was there they were typically distracted and looking down at something they were writing on, or selling someone a chair/umbrella. Also, the one female lifeguard on duty in mid-August was very nasty to me. I had just arrived and checked into the hotel before heading to the beach. Was late in the day, and I saw a row of chairs. There was no sign saying they were for rent, and no one standing near them, and of course, no lifeguard on duty. So I took one to sit by the water. The nasty lifeguard walked up to me about 30 min later and rudely asked where I had gotten the chair. When I got up to turn around to answer her, she just shook her head with a nasty look on her face and grabbed the chair away from me and walked away. Seriously, this is how they treat guests? No explanation of why she was so pissed off -- just stormed off with chair in hand like a preschooler who just had their lollipop stolen -- lots of professional maturity on this one! If they don't want someone to use the chair without paying, maybe they should try either locking them up, or posting a sign on how to rent them, or having a person standing buy to rent them. And it's worth stating again -- be a lifeguard or be a sales person -- you can't be BOTH, especially when red flags are up and there are a ton of small children playing in waves. read more

We have been coming to Carolina Winds for 23 years and when Lack's took over the beach rental from Gene's in August of 2016 I must say that I never more disappointed in the rental set-up, cost, unfriendliness and unprofessional staff. First the umbrellas were put in the sand too low and at an angle. Second if someone want to come and put an umbrella in the open space between my umbrella and the next they could do so. I pay a good amount of money for my space and others should not be able to infringe in my space. If this is the way it will be again in 2017, I guess I don't need to rent when I can bring my own umbrella and place it in line with the rentals. I am very unhappy with the change that has been made to the beach and the staff are not qualified to be on the beach, when the bad mouth the other companies and don't watch the ocean. I've been coming to Myrtle Beach my whole life. On this week, July 22-29th 2018, the weather conditions were the same as always. Storms on and off. They have not allowed us to swim at all. Even on the days that the waves are pretty much non existant. I understand that some people don't understand how the ocean works and get hurt. But punishing everyone for their entire vacation is appalling. When I called to inquire about who could lift the swimming ban, not only were they rude, they said "the national weather service". The other areas of the beach such as north myrtle, are NOT banning people from swimming. We also rented an umbrella and chairs for the week, $160.This has ruined my vacation. Wasted my money. After being politely asked to take down our infant's tent due to it being too large and a safety hazard by a very professional young man who was on a ATV we were soon hasseled by another lifeguard from this company (Lack's) due to the fact that our 10 month old daughter was playing in the sand under the shadow cast by one of their umbrellas, clearly not underneath it and far from their rental chairs. When we pointed out that she was far from being under the umbrella, that our towel/chair was set up many feet away, she was just enjoying a spot on the beach, we were making sure she didn't go under the umbrella (my wife was sitting next to her), and we had no intentions of staying there long term...we were once again told very rudely and in condesending manner that the shadow was part of their property since it was cast by their umbrella and we were to move now or pay. I asked how this supports Myrtle Beach's claim and advertising campaign of being family friendly, to which I was told these are the rules and this is their property by this teenage lifeguard. I will be calling the Chamber of Commerce/ tourism bureau to inform them of the unfamily friendly feeling and conditions we felt by the public face of Myrtle Beach. read more

Lacks Lifeguards should be guarding life, not renting umbrellas and policing their position. I was harassed by one of them today because I set my umbrella in front of theirs. They should not be allowed to do this on a public beach. Since the prime spots are apparently taken by this company I will take my next vacation somewhere else that will allow me to enjoy my ocean view. He waited until I was all set up to force me to move. You should do something about these people. The other tourists around me for the event were upset about it too. These truly awful people ave placed the 30 dollar cost of a umbrella on human life. I stayed in Myrtle Beach last week and was on the beach every day. I thought the lifeguard whose stand was in front of our hotel (Hotel Blue) was excellent! Jellyfish were quite a problem last week and he was attentive to everyone who approached him with a sting. He was always watching the water and blowing his whistle to get swimmers, who were too far out, to come closer to shore. Two times during the week he had to assist swimmers who couldn't get out of the riptide. These lifeguards put their lives on the line every day to protect and rescue swimmers from the ocean. There are several negative reviews on this site and they all seem to be about umbrellas! If these vacationers had wandered into the water too far and got into trouble, they would have been very thankful that these lifeguards were there to help them. I love Myrtle Beach and vacation there often, and I am very thankful that these lifeguards are there. read more
