Nail specialist take great care to pamper each client according to their special requests. Another positive the location does not have the strong potentially harmful nail chemical scent that you would normally receive at other nail salons. They do go the extra mile to insure the location is clean. I do recall seeing a client literally become so relaxed she dozed off. Speaks highly of their location. Definitely a place to check out if your looking to change things up. Or simply plan a wonderful day of pampering with your besties. No walk-ins. Must schedule ahead of time to book. My low star rating is based primarily on the cost to value ratio. It's nice to have freshly painted nails, but I honestly go for the experience, relaxation and pampering. Unfortunately, Lacquer misses the mark here. They are waterless and use hot towels in lieu of warm foot baths. Instead you sit on comfortable, but too high chairs and "rest" your feet on a foot rest that the technician sits on. It's not a natural position, so I had to sit in a tensed position the entire time - the opposite of relaxation. They did the mani pedi at the same time with the mani tech sitting on one side, so having to awkwardly cross arms to the other side of the chair- combine that with the tense legs and it couldn't have been more uncomfortable. All in all- $80+ for a 45 minute mani pedi was not worth it. Stick to traditional salons. The technicians were nice and had good attention to detail, so the end result is satisfactory. I came in with a gift certificate and after the session had $110 left- I opted to buy as many products as I could knowing I wouldn't return. read more

I have a nail salon that I am pretty loyal to but since I was leaving town and didn't have time to make the drive over there that particular week, I made an appointment for a gel manicure and classic pedicure at Lacquer which is walking distance to my home. This would mark my second visit. I don't remember any problems with my first visit, but it wasn't memorable. My second was hardly that. It started off with me checking in and being asked to pick out my polish colors and fill out a form. Nearly immediately after walking to the nail colors, my nail tech came up and told me she was ready. I'd hardly had time to look at the colors so I just grabbed one I was okay on and took the form with me to fill out. While sitting for my pedicure, I filled out my form and set it to the side. Seconds later, another tech came and took my form and without looking at it, walked to the counter. Meaning that neither her, nor the person working on my feet had bothered looking at the form and my preferences. Obviously more of a formality for insurance purposes rather than customer service. The tech who took the form didn't introduce herself. She simply asked what color I had chosen and began working on my manicure. Even though I was a bit annoyed, I tried to relax but that was interrupted by the person working on my pedicure's need to sing and hum along to the music that was playing. It occurred to me then that I was also not offered anything to drink but I figured I couldn't use my hands at the present time anyway so I didn't bother asking for one. The tech working on my feet also kept moving my foot in an uncomfortable way. I told her that was really not comfortable and she said sorry but there's no other option. I get a manicure and pedicure every two weeks and never have I felt more uncomfortable than this experience. When it came to polishing, she used what I could only assume was a white base coat. I could tell it was not evenly applied as she was working on it. She then used my polish and finished with a top coat. She spent a lot of time cleaning up my toe nails after, but after leaving I still had polish on my skin that I had to remove myself. Also as I suspected, you could clearly tell where she had not spread the base coat evenly under the color polish because it changed the integrity of the color and since it wasn't polished evenly, it was dark pink in some areas and light pink in others. It also started chipping within two days of my visit. My fingers seemed to be polished better (it was gel, so it should have been) and typically lasts about two weeks for me. Unfortunately after just a few days I could see where water was going between the polish and my nail. The pictures below were how my nails looked after just a few days. Lastly, after I returned from my trip I went to my regular salon to have my nails redone (by then all of the gel had peeled off anyway) and my toes repolished. To my horror, my toe nails were stained! I have never had this happened and couldn't believe it. It was an OPI polish so I can only assume it was the weird base coat that caused this staining. * 4 / 5 stars Let me start off by saying that Laquer is your best bet in Downtown Austin. I made an appointment only 1 day in advance through their convenient and easy-to-use online system. Very impressive! Upon arrival, I was asked to fill out a questionnaire regarding my nail and massage preferences, as well as my general nail and skin health. I waited no more than 2 minutes before my nail technician (TuTu) greeted me, reviewed my card, and offered me water and a seat at his station. I noticed right away that this place is extremely hygienic. Nail techs are required to wear gloves, no files are reused, and all the tools have been properly sterilized. As someone who has heard a few horror stories, I truly appreciate Laquer's commitment to health and safety of the customer and workers. I could already tell that this place was all about QUALITY. Now I am extremely picky about my nails, but TuTu went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied. My nails were already well filed and cuticles were trimmed, so my review will focus on the polish job. Since I told him that Shellac doesn't bond as well to my nails, he used the PH bond 3 times to increase its efficacy. Then he used a trick by painting Grapefruit Sparkle as a base coat to really make my Romantique color pop! When the bottle was low and the polish was thick, TuTu opened a brand new bottle for me so that it would be fresh. I always judge the quality of the nail tech by how even and thin s/he can apply the gel, and once again TuTu delivered flawlessly. He touched up certain nails that he did not feel were 100% perfect, applying an extra half coat or cleaning up the cuticle line with polish remover as needed. TuTu finished with cuticle oil, lotion and a nice hand massage. So with how nice Laquer is + the amazing job TuTu did, why not 5 stars? Well, there definitely is room for improvement. (1) As many Yelpers have noted, Laquer is EXPENSIVE. Coming from Manhattan, I was used to paying $30 for a well-done gel manicure. The base price here is $45, which ended up being $54 with tip. (2) While I understand Laquer prefers CND Shellac, it would be great if they had a few other options like OPI or Gelish since everyone's nail bonds differently to different products. (3) They should really do a shoulder / back massage. Having your hands stretched out makes your shoulders and back tight, and so a short massage here is standard at most nail salons. I was definitely expecting it. Bottom line: Yes, Laquer is pricey and there is room for improvement, but the salon clearly tries to make that up with exceptional customer service and cleanliness. Love my pedi at this place! I almost feel asleep during the massage it was so great. When you first walk in you are greater and given a survey as to what kind of service you like. Questions like "how important is the massage" and "check of your specific needs for service (i.e. Dry skin, relaxation, etc). This survey made me feel really cared for and excited about what is to come. We perused the many colors and I chose one that I haven't really seen in other shops - they have so many fun options! There is a couch and magazines to enjoy while you wait but we didn't need that because they were ready for us right away. I really enjoyed talking to my tech. I also noticed that all the techs help each other out. One would grab towels for the other and someone would swing by and clean up. Great team work. My friend was getting married 3 days after her birthday and I wanted to organize a girls evening including manicures for her. My usual manicure place (Milk & Honey) was booked so I did some research and found Lacquer. Firstly, making reservations was a bit of a nightmare. I called to make the appointments and was told that I needed to talk to Laura. Laura wasn't in so I left a message with my contact info. I didn't hear back so after waiting 3 days I called again. This time I was able to talk to Laura. Laura was very nice and explained that they required some paperwork and a 20% deposit for a group. I filled out the paper work and didn't hear back about when our appointments would be. I saw the deposit charge had gone through so I called again just to find out when to tell the other ladies to be at the salon. I'm not sure who I spoke to this time, but the woman first told me that I didn't have appointments and then that I did, but that I would have to talk to Laura about what time they were. I would expect anyone who answers the phone to have the ability to look up appointment times, but maybe this isn't the case... We arrived the day of and over all the experience was nice although a little awkward. Laura had suggested that we bring champagne and snacks. I arrived with a cold bottle of champagne and cupcakes which I had to awkwardly schlep around the salon. No one offered to take them for me. We all had a nice time mostly because we all put a good face on things and not because of the staff. The staff seemed disorganized and tense with one another. One of the girls also wanted to get a pedicure, but was told we didn't have time. We were the only party in the salon. So that felt odd. Before leaving I noticed that one of my nails was rough and that there was a thread or hair or something in the polish on one of my nails. I thought this was annoying since I got gel and would have to deal with it for 3 weeks. Well, I shouldn't have worried about that! My gel manicure is 1 week old and the polish is flaking off like crazy. I always get gel and they normally stand up to a beating. I haven't even been rough on my nails. WORST OF ALL the bride had two whole nails of polish pop off the day of the wedding!! This was 3 days after her GEL manicure. I was so embarrassed that I booked the appointments at Lacquer. I tried out Lacquer Nail Salon for the first time and I have to say that I wasn't entirely impressed. Here are my ratings: 1 star for ambience: It is a nice environment and they offer you wine/spa water as soon as you enter. Cool. 1 star for choice of colors: These also included some designer polishes. 0 stars for quality of Pedicure: I was unimpressed with their "Classic Pedicure". My technician didn't even use a nail curette to clean underneath the nails or underneath the sides of the nails. And she didn't even use a clipper to smooth the skin area on the sides of the nails. I went ahead and gave them 1 star for the massage that was included with the pedicure. Although it wasn't the best foot massage I have ever received while getting a pedicure, it was decent. After about 1.5 weeks, my toes looked terrible. When I get a great pedicure, my toes look great for about 3 weeks. Not the case here. So all together 3 stars. No, I don't think I will be going back to this place. read more

Worse nail experience I have had in a while. Had an early morning appointment with a friend. We picked out our color together but none of the employees talked to one another to inform our technicians we were together..... There was no one else in the salon at this time. We were however, seated next to each other and both the technicians started our pedicures at the same time. We both got a classic pedicure ($35). My pedicure was completely done in 15 minutes. My foot message was 2 minutes. As I waited an additional 30 minutes for my friends pedicure to be done. I noticed there were plenty of things my technician did not do. She didn't do the cuticle oil or a base coat but did immediately spray my nails after finishing painting them. When I left I realized she didn't even file some of my toenails, there are rough bits on the end that I now have to fix my own nails after getting a pedicure. The bottom of my feet are still rough. She never told me her name, so I have no idea who to tell you to avoid. She never came back to see if I needed anything just ran off to the back and I never saw her again. No one actually asked if I needed anything. There is clearly no consistency at this salon. Complete disaster and highly dissatisfied customer. So for a $40 pedicure after tip (not sure why I even bothered tipping after such services), it was a terrible experience and I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

I had a great first experience here! The staff was friendly, my appointment was met on time, and I LOVE the overall finished look of my nails. The place was clean and so chic looking too; I adore all the white space and sleek decor. During my pedicure, they offered me hot tea and/or wine which was definitely appreciated! It made the whole experience even more relaxing. Usually pedicures can be uncomfortable & painful for me (I've actually bled from previous pedis before, no joke), but everything went smoothly at Lacquer. They really know what they're doing. Found this amazing nail salon on Yelp and based on the reviews I decided to give them a try. This place is a short walk from the W hotel which is where I am staying. I booked an appointment for a classic spa pedicure. When I walked in the first thing I noticed was the cleanliness and beauty of the space. I was highly impressed with the large selection of colors they have to choose from with high end brands like Dior and Chanel. My technician was absolutely amazing. She was warm, personable and attentive. She gave me the best foot massage! She also added a complementary hot towel wrap which was such a nice touch since I am almost 7 months pregnant. My toes look incredible and I feel relaxed and rejuvenated. I am visiting from Los Angeles and only packed closed toed shoes, but they sell Havaiana flip flops which were perfect. My awesome maid of honor booked our bridal party to get our nails and pedis done here. The salon was super fancy and loved the elegant, chic feel. My nail artist was, Elaine, and she was super awesome and made me feel at home. She was also an amazing artist and was able to create a lace design to match my wedding motif. The staff was super friendly that my bridesmaids and I felt like we were at a friend's house just chillin doing our nails together while jamming out to 90s pop. Speaking of which, we loved loved loved the music they were playing. The old school hip hop and 90s boybands/ pop had us jamming out and connecting us to one another. I'm really disappointed in our service today. I researched and booked a group appointment weeks in advance for my best friend's wedding happening in two days. We were phoned this morning (morning of appointment) that one of the nail tech's is out sick, and they're unable to do one of the pedicure's for our bridal party. Totally understandable, it's stressful when staff is out sick, but I let them know we would have to go somewhere else since this is for a wedding and we all need pedicures. They confirmed they could in fact make it happen, but when we showed up TEN minutes late due to parking (we had given a heads up this was the case and were told 'no problem!') they said they could no longer do one of the pedicures and changed the bride's and my pedicure to basic (no massage, no callous removal). This was said unapologetically, while the owner just sat there in silence. No one offered us beverages, available techs hung around when they could've squeezed in the extra pedicure. I really hoped for such a special event we would've had better service. Our nails look nice, but for $300 we're now wishing we would have gone elsewhere and would have been treated more fairly and hospitably. read more

Great for tourists but not lunch breaks - when scheduling my appointment, I noted that their website stated my manicure (and gel removal) would take 45 minutes, I scheduled a 12:15 so that I could be out by 1. I arrived at 12:10 and waited until 12:25 - more than 20% of my appointment time gone - to ask if they were running late. The receptionist looked totally surprised that I would ask a question and said that she was sure my nail tech would be with me soon. So I waited in the lovely waiting area, looking at their fun products, and tried not to feel anxious. It was almost 12:30 by the time we started and she finished removing the gel and cleaning up my nails at exactly 1 -- no time for polish. (Which I predicted and told her that I'd skip polish since we were starting so late and I really needed to leave at 1.) Annoyingly, I was still charged the full $35 for the late polish-less manicure. I wouldn't recommend Lacquer to anyone who needed to adhere to a schedule - notably, the woman the next table over also had a late nail tech. Okay so this is so crazy I just thought I had to write a review. The picture I attached from today shows work that is three weeks old! (!!!!!!) Since I got this gel mani, I have moved to Atlanta (packed and unpacked boxes, carried heavy things, etc) and no breaks, scratches or departing from my nail. I feel conflicted on this one, on the one hand it was a beautiful salon with absolute top quality polishes and the staff is wonderful. But on the other hand I feel like the service received just didn't justify the increased cost. The salon is light and bright, with giant comfy overstuffed chairs for your pedicures and a table in the middle for manicures. The staff was so sweet and treated our party really well, they had top quality polishes (including Louboutin!) and the staff was really knowledgeable about which brands would hold up the best, how opaque the colors were etc. But, looking at my nails a day later I feel like I got a glorified polish change on my hands and feet. My cuticles weren't cleaned up, callouses weren't addressed, didn't get a massage or scrub, no lotion applied etc, all for $65. I mean, I kind of just feel like I paid for the location and fanciness of the salon, but I'd rather get a great mani/pedi at a hole in the wall for half the price. Honestly already was put off by the fact that my nail technician literally just left me to air dry after the manicure- in which then after that taking too long to dry finally asked another nail tech if they had a fan or something- and she brought over a whole portable nail dryer- why wasn't I just given this in the first place..? Not like any other nail salon. The nail techs here are true artists. And I don't mean like just painting flower designs on your nail, I mean they know exactly how to make you have the perfect experience while consulting you through treatments and even tips for home. I have always been self conscious about my nails. They are very weak and I've never even been able to grow out past my finger. Rosa and Tutu helped me discover IBX which has completely transformed my hands. Rosa also gave me a replacement toenail when I injured mine. Unlike other salons they are never pushy trying to sell you anything and actually have intelligent conversation with you, making a manicure not a chore but actually a pampering where I look forward to restraining from touching my phone for an hour. Overall service is so on point and human. They are always on top of the timing and scheduling. And if anything changes they will actually call you or text you. I have come here over a year now on my lunch breaks and can't go anywhere else. Yes, this salon is a bit more expensive than others but you're getting more than a manicure by artists that aren't treated unethically. Also your nails actually will grow and even the regular polish they do here lasts over a week. I am happy to not be paying for a $12 manicure again. read more

I noticed when I got back to the hotel the night of my appointment, at which point the salon was already closed. I was visiting from out of town and had a flight at 11 AM the next morning - or else I would've gone back to the salon to ask for a fix. I love the setting - modern and fresh. My technician took her time to make sure every nail was treated perfectly and was friendly but not too talkative. Nice! I had a gel mani. When I realized one nail had an air bubble, I asked her to redo it and she did. When I left, I realized that the polish isn't smooth on all nails and there are areas that aren't covered.
