    Wood Fired Onion Dip
    MJ R.

Ladder 13 is located inside the Latern Hotel on Senate Street. The entrance is confusing if they have the garage door opening but it's in the right hand corner facing the building. We had a reservation for 7 pm and we were greeted by someone who was absolutely not capable of handing feon of the house hostess duties. There were tables available but they would not seat us because they had one table for three and the people were not finished yet. Meanwhile there was an available table for 4 staring us in the face. They asked us to sit in the lobby of the hotel...with a bunch of other people waiting for tables and we didn't get seated until almost 7:30 pm. I felt like that Seinfeld episode where he says: ."you can take the reservation, you just can't keep the reservation". Our server was great but the food was just mediocre. We started with the Wood Roasted Onion dip which was OK. It did not have a real onion taste but went well with the chips. Our other appetizer, the Fluffy Cheese, was whipped feta i think or ricotta drizzled with honey ( their menu doesn't tell you which cheese it is...go figure). The cheese was really good..creamy and flavorful and I would definitely order this again. It was served with "foccacia" bread that is tasty and you really get the rosemary flavor but it's not true foccicia..its more like a soft brioche. We had the shrimp and the chicken as main horses which come with ....wait for this...nothing! They are simply grilled skewers of a few shrimp and chunks of chicken. These were good but I could make this at home. We split a salad that was quite tasty. The pasta was overdone and starchy...and lacked any creativity. The drinks were good but $14 for a small glass of what is an $15 a bottle from a wine shop Rosé is out of touch. Sadly, out experience from start to finish was a big disappointment. When you arrive 10 minutes early for a reservation and you get seated 40 minutes later when clearly tables are avaialble is gross mismanagement. I doubt I would return unless it was for a special event and that was the location. Its fairly new and maybe se kinks still need to be worked out but the confusion with seating? Coupled with the disappointing food...we won't be returning anytime soon.

Very cool vibe - beautifully designed atmosphere. There was a newer employee at the host stand, which is a little awkwardly placed in the far corner if entering from the hotel lobby. Fluffy cheese appetizer was spectacular. Field pea hummus just OK. Fly with me cocktail great: tart martini style refresher. You're my best friend a well balanced cocktail. Paint It Black was a disappointment - very sweet with overbearing walnut tones for me .,. Maybe OK as a dessert cocktail. Maybe. Cauliflower pasta dish a little bland and salty for me. Lamb shoulder very very tasty. Tables a bit small for the tapas style delivery, which was quick and attentive. Overall, a great addition to the Columbia dining scene ... just a few rough edges to smooth out.

Cute place! The food was delightfully, we got the fluffy cheese as our appetizer and it was our favorite part of the whole meal. I got the orecchiette with the beef shank ragu. 10/10. My partner got the lumache verde, which was also delicious. Service was a little slow towards the end, but overall a great experience. We will be back to try the cocktails!

Had to come back a second time because the vibes are immaculate. Started with the onion dip which was great! Will say more on the lighter side. For entree split the beef kofta and it was DELICIOUS!!! A smaller dish but packed with flavor. Perfectly balanced and well suited for a night out with drinks. Have been here twice and have had the best experience both times. Highly recommend.

What started as an innocent evening had all the makings of a great dining experience. We ordered a few appetizers to share, including the fluffy cheese, it they arrived looking delicious. At that point, it felt like we might have found one of Columbia's best restaurants. Then things unraveled. My cocktail took more than 20 minutes to arrive, and we'd finished every appetizer before anyone even came back to take our entrée order. When we finally tracked down our server, she was wonderful--friendly, knowledgeable, and full of recommendations. One of those recommendations was the lamb shoulder. Unfortunately, it was essentially a plain lamb kebab with very little to elevate it. It didn't feel like a true entrée, and while it was cooked properly, it was surprisingly underseasoned. Thankfully, there was enough yogurt sauce on the plate to cover every bite. As we waited, my friends and I amused ourselves by watching the organized chaos of the packed dining room(20 tables), imagining we were experiencing the kind of bustling energy you'd expect from a trendy New York restaurant. Sadly, the food that followed didn't live up to the atmosphere. The pizza will be left out of this argument as a New Yorker who has frequently enjoyed pizza in Columbia SC. To order more than we asked initially was an absolute choir and don't question if they have an affogato - no shot they'll do anything to comfort you. If you're looking to pay premium prices for food that reminds you of Chuck E. Cheese, this might be the place for you.

This is such a great new addition to Columbia. We ate here last week, and the food was so good. I had the fluffy cheese which is delicious. I also got the chicken which was also delicious. Inside is very cool. They've done a great job remodeling the place. The bar stays open longer than the restaurant. Great Drinks! I highly recommend, and we will be back!

What a great addition to Columbia! Unlike anything else we currently have. Great atmosphere as well. Food was exceptional - wish I had more room so I could have tried everything on the menu! We will definitely be returning! Great service.

Over priced for what you get. The pizza is gas station quality which is about the same as dominos.

The seating was comfortable, had tons of cushions so it was definitely a vibe. Our waitress was absolutely amazing. Came to the table the right amount of times and was pleasant as anyone can ever be. The food was on point! The gyro meat was seasoned to perfection. I opted to swap the rice out for their veggies and it was a great call. There were bell peppers, onions, tomatoes and mushrooms in there which complimented the meat perfectly. Their tzatziki is homemade and the perfect contrast to the dish. I'll definitely be back for lunch or dinner soon!

From the moment we stepped inside we were treated like family or close friends of the owner. The owner works in the kitchen but greeted us at the counter and helped answer all of our questions. He is extremely passionate about his food and you can tell he takes great pride in it through every delicious bite. Due to covid , they have limited staff and no servers but their dining room is still open. We thought we would be picking our food up at the counter. Nope, the owner graciously served us and would not accept anything less. The owner apologized for the way covid has impacted how they do business (which he did not need to do) and he was overall just a very genuine and pleasant guy. He even offered us complimentary damascus bread and baklava. Here's what we tried: -Damascus bread and hummus - the damascus bread was light and crisp with sesame seeds sprinkled on top and drizzled with olive oil. It was a perfect pairing with the hummus. The hummus was some of the best I have ever had. Creamy , with a hint of paprika. -Chicken, kufta and veggies special over yellow rice with a Greek salad. Flavorful, tender and delicious!! It was so good. The owner also brought us some tzatziki sauce and a spicy tobasco based sauce. Both sauces complimented the meats well . The owner asked us how we liked the spicy sauce to which we replied how great it was and he then brought us some to take home. It's delicious so definitely order some on the side! -Baklava - this heavenly Baklava combined honey-soaked layers of flaky phyllo pastry with chopped nuts. It was very good. You gotta try this place - you will not regret it. Everything about our dining experience was perfect and I will be back every time I am in Columbia!!

I've always gone with and recommend the chicken kebab. It comes with about 4-5 pieces of grilled chicken, yellow rice, vegetables, and side of tzatziki sauce. The grilled flavor of the chicken just mixes so well with the rice, so having that clean "chicken & rice" meal while maintaining the awesome flavors. The menu is pretty diverse, despite Mediterranean being their speciality. They offer other American dishes like burgers or even pizza; never tried them though, but options are there to diversify. Right now due to Ramadan, their hours are adjusted for dining in, so they stop seating people around 7:30pm. To go orders are the only option; not a big deal for me though. I highly recommend people to try this place out if they haven't; seriously a solid 4 star dining establishment!

I came in a few minutes after 10:00 a.m., the time they open, and while I don't expect a restaurant to be in tip-top shape the second they open, they did not seem at all ready for the day or to accept customers. I stood at the front for a few awkward moments before asking one of the hostesses if I was supposed to seat myself, when she replied "oh no, I'll seat you", and then led me to one of the nearby tables. Somewhat grossly, the tablecloth on the table I was seated at was covered with coffee stains from previous guests, which was kind of unsettling. I then asked for a cup of coffee, and was told that there wasn't any ready, and that I would need to wait a few minutes. Again, not a huge deal, but I would expect a breakfast restaurant to have some coffee ready by the time that they open. Second, when perusing the menu, I was not particularly impressed by their "limited breakfast" options, nor anything on their regular menu. I decided to go with a simple hot dog, and substituted the offered sides with an order of French fries, which ridiculously cost me almost $4 extra. In addition, my hot dog was fine, but nothing exceptional, and definitely not better than one I could've gotten at Costco for a markedly cheaper price. The one (1) bright spot was that the fries were very good, and of higher quality than most other fries I've gotten at similar restaurants. Finally, my server was nice enough, but a little rough around the edges and not overly attentive. In addition, the ambiance was pretty basic, with nothing about it that really stuck out. All-in-all, I wouldn't be adverse to returning to DiPratos on a Saturday or Sunday to try their breakfast menu, but I won't be coming back during the week, and wouldn't really recommend that anybody else do so either.

We tried to enter, but the door was locked. After a few mins. we tried again. Still locked. There is a table with chairs outside, so we sat and proceeded to wait. A few minutes later, the waiter (there was only 1), told us he hadn't bothered to open the door as the chef had not arrived yet. We said it wasn't a problem as we were not in a hurry and we could spend the time having something to drink (iced tea) and perusing the menu. After the chef finally arrived and we could order, we ordered the Dolmadaki to share and two entrees that came with salads. We told the waiter that we would order dessert after dinner. The waiter eventually brought out the salads. Nothing special, but very overdressed. He then brought out the entrees. (In between his service, he spent a lot of time looking at himself and fixing his hair in a mirror on the wall in this small dining room.) My chicken souvlaki was very dry, served in large lumps that were difficult to cut. Potatoes were ok. My husbands beef kabob was flavorless, and his red lentils also lacked flavor. At this point we were still the only patrons and Andrew was the only waiter. He then came over, and asked if we were ready for the check. We informed him that we each wanted to order baklava and that he needed to make sure that our check did not include the Dolmadaki which we never received. He acted surprised that we hadn't received the appetizer, in spite of the fact that we were the only patrons and he was the only waiter. He went back to the kitchen and when he returned he told us that they only had 1 baklava as the chef didn't bake any that day. We requested our check instead. He proceeded to say that the Dolmadaki would be out shortly, at which point we informed him that we did not want them as they were to be our appetizer, not something we wanted to eat after dinner. When he finally brought the check, I needed to ask him to remove the used dinner plates so that I could deal with the check. While I was very tempted not to leave any, left a very meager 12% tip that day. Due to all of the above (and the fact that the only bathroom had an overflowing trash bin, no hand sanitizer in the dispenser, and could have used a good general cleaning) we cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant. It was also interesting to note that when we left there were still no other patrons, but the restaurant next door was booming. Next time we'll try there.
