What can I say about this place that hasn't already been said? The Salted Caramel macarons (1.90 euros) are amazing, simply amazing! My only regret is that I didn't buy more. The Pistachio macarons also really good and have a nuttier, more authentic flavor than the ones at Pierre Hermé. I also really liked the Rose, Citron, and Framboise flavors. What I think distinguishes Laduree from its competitors is not necessarily the texture but rather the flavor. Their macarons are light and airy, as macarons should be, but they are actually denser than I expected. What makes them outstanding are the quality and intensity of their flavors. Macarons first came onto my foodie radar when there were insane Yelp threads in Toronto discussing these little meringue delights. I have tried them at many high end bakeries in Toronto, and also experienced them in Montréal. After having experienced the macarons at Ladurée, I don't understand the hype that surrounds them. Everything looks beautiful, but the prices are as crazy as the crowds that fill every single location of this patisserie. We stood in line for 10 minutes and we're rushed through like cattle. We went for afternoon tea but decided to do dinner since it was already past 5pm. We didn't have much expectation other than getting fed, but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. My steak tartare was simply the best I ever had, my young daughter liked her rigatoni (with simple tomato/garlic sauce) so much so that she finished the adult portion all by herself. My wife's lamb chops were a little too lean and too gamy - not sure if that's how Parisians do it - but otherwise having good crust and came with very generous portion. Their service could improve and be more attentive though. We had macarons every day from different patisseries, and we came to the conclusion that Laduree macarons are our favorite. They may be more traditional in appearance and flavor than others, but I appreciate that since I'm not always looking for exotic flavor combinations or elaborately decorated macaron shells. Salted caramel is my favorite flavor, although if you're taking them to go, beware that the caramel filling can get messy. Also take note that they charge more for boxes, but it might be worth it since macarons are notoriously delicate and can get crushed in the little paper bags. At this location, you can either sit down in the tea room or queue up next door to take your macarons and pastries to go. They also have a little shop next to the tea room where you can buy Laduree notecards, stickers, tote bags, keychains, wrapping paper, etc. etc. We were able to score some items from the Hello Kitty Laduree collaboration. :) read more

Ah, Laduree - ye of no less than 18 locations inside Charles de Gaulle airport, but we didn't know that when we kept making "one last run" here. Not for the macarons, which are just okay in texture but better for flavor (yuzu ginger! mm), but for the existence of a cake that looks exactly like a strawberry. It is so adorable, even with a not endearing price tag of €8. It has a fondant pistachio-flavored stem and pretty white seeds and layers and layers of strawberry jam inside. It's just amazing. The strawberry mascarpone tart is also good if you've committed to higher-than-average sweetness, and the chocolate pistachio croissant isn't bad either. I thought it was such a great display of all their offerings. We ordered a box of 12. Sadly, most of the unique flavors were so trash. Either they were really strong or didn't taste like the flavor. After years of waiting to go to a Laduree store in Paris, I was not disappointed. We picked a smaller store in hopes it wouldn't be as packed. It wasn't. After gawking at pastries and macarons for a few minutes, we finally picked out some of both. Napoleon pastry was really delicious. Probably one of the best things I had in my life. We made a mistake not trying the macarons right off the bat as we also went to another store. In fact, we didn't try them until about 5 days later only to realize that they went a little dry. A shame for spending that much money! So my suggestion is to have them right of the bat. I will say that the packaging is stunning! Even the little spoon had a bow around it. The kids went with the pre-set kids menu, where they got hamburgers, specialty drinks, and macaroons for dessert. Yes, this place is a tourist trap, but that is why I went. I had wanted to go to Laduree on Champs Elysees but it was closed for renovation so I went to the spot where all of the grandmothers go for tea. I arrived around 3pm and waited in line in the rain for 30 minutes for a table -- it was a 20 minute wait if you wanted to get into the bakery too. I can only immagine how long I woud have waited if it was lunchtime. Tables are very close together so you are practically eating with your neighbor. Most diners were tourists; most were Japanese. While I can get by in French and always make an honest attempt, I found the wait staff answered me in English when I managed to mangle my French. I had the delicious Salade Laduree and The Mont Blanc for dessert. The Mont Blanc is a monstrocity that looks like a pile of worms. The dessert is actually piped chesnut puree on a bed of whipped cream. I would have loved a half-order since, after only a few bites, it was too sweet to eat. So, a salad and dessert with water set me back 30 Euros, but it was worth the experience. read more

They've perfected the crispy outside and gooey inside like no other! I wanted to have lunch here and the service was reprehensible, even for Parisian standards. We had to leave! Seated at a tiny table, we were then asked to MOVE to another table. (there was about 5 empty tables so space couldn't be an issue as they stated). THEN we sat for 30 minutes with no recognition whatsoever. Perhaps I'd been in Paris too long and was over the awful service, but for what you pay to eat here, I at least want a drink while I sit and wait and wait and wait. TL;DR: Don't go! Laduree is a complete tourist trap! Prior to flying out, I was told by multiple people to visit Laduree for their macarons, that their macarons are heavenly, they set the standard, etc. Nope! Visited three patisseries, dotted throughout Paris, and Laduree came in last. Ordering similar flavors for comparison (minus the unique flavors), and Laduree wasn't that good. I also arrived early morning for some breakfast before more walking around, and the place was SUPER girly/pink-&-gold. A bit awkward for a guy (luckily I wasn't alone). It was also amusing to see a predominantly Asian crowd. The oddest (also amusing) bit was the fair number of Asian ladies grabbing food on their own... I guess because they've been told so much about this place? Breakfast was really mediocre, with the best part being the warm, fluffy bread they gave. Afterwards, we dropped by the macaron shop, and for about $2.80 per macaron, it was a bit pricey for the taste. I'd say you're paying a little extra for the super fancy boxes and bags that they give you to put your box in. Sad to say, with the first bite I took, I was immediately disappointed... They weren't dry, which meant they weren't stale. J'adore! J'adore! J'adore! I am invested in a full blown love affair with this establishment. During our December 2010 visit to Paris, I frequented this Laduree on a daily basis to the dismay of my husband. The macarons are the star here! I loved most flavors including the fleur d'orange, pistachio, and lemon. Their macarons are so beautiful and perfectly crisp at first bite with a moist interior that really transports you to a dreamy place. It's Macaron heaven!
