When I was in Paris, this was my favorite place I visited. The best macaroons are obviously here!

Well, the macaroons are great but don't eat lunch here. We arrived with a reservation and were told that we had to wait in a different queue to sit outside. Who does that to someone with a reservation? We were escorted upstairs to a dining table. I ordered the beef fillet with mashed potatoes. Thirty two euros. The fillet must have been the equivalent of USDA Select. Tough and chewy and only warm, not hot. (side note: a British woman with a group of women complained about the food and service before we ordered. I gave a feigned clap and said bravo for speaking her mind) So goes the rest of our meal. My wife had cold French onion soup and sent it back. The only thing that made the meal interesting was our conversation with two women from Savannah, Georgia, thank you. Otherwise, I've had a better steak at Outback Steak House. To further add insult, Lauderee supposedly has a Michelin rated chef, albeit one star. Lastly, the wait staff does not rise to the level of a Michelin rated chef. Slow service, never asked if we needed anything. Only go if you love macaroons and can take them to go. read more

The famous and beautiful Laduree....ahhh... I came here to try these classic macarons and let me say I was not in any way shape or form let down. I almost cried when I ate my first one. They are chewy, creamy, crispy...I mean really everything a perfect macaron should be. I savored my salted caramel, passion fruit and raspberry macaron. I highly suggest coming here if you are in Paris. I thankfully did not have anyone in line and was able to get in and out quickly. This review is on the Macarons alone. Didn't dine in, it was just a quick visit for my favorite macarons ever! The first time I tried Laduree was when my husband brought some back from a trip to NYC. I figured if I loved them then, I HAD to try them in France. I was not disappointed. This shop on the Champs-Elysees can be a madhouse. You've got people dining in and many people like me, just there for the macarons. On Easter Sunday, you can imagine how busy it was. There was a door monitor who only let people in once people left. The line moved quickly, but once inside, it was kind of nuts with many of us ordering all different size boxes and assortments of macarons. The gal that helped me didn't blink an eye when I asked for several boxes. She was very helpful and even seemed to be having fun despite the crowd that waited in line. The meringue shell is delicate, but not so delicate that it will fall apart at the slightest touch. Biting down there is a bit of a subtle crunch, just a perfect amount. And there is a nice amount of filling, not skimpy and not oreo-double stuff overfilled. Always perfect for each bite. They are so colorful and pretty. There are so many flavors to try, and seasonal ones add in depending on the time of year you visit. Definitely worth the splurge. OKAY... So... Don't hate me, but... I hate their macarons. BUT!!!!!! I LOVE their food. The Vol au vent is so damn good, I don't know where to start. The puff pastry "bed" is perfectly high and flaky and gets covered with the most beautiful, creamy chanterelle and chicken deliciousness. I want it now. The service is wonderful, and yes they all speak perfect English, but please be a good human and at least say bonjour and merci if you want something. We only came here because friends wanted Laduree macarons (of course), and were pretty hungry from being out all morning, so decided to lunch al fresco. We sat outside, which seemed like a great idea at first because it was so nice out, but the Champs delysees is crawling with annoying tourists (much like ourselves, I suppose lol), so I'd probably sit inside if we were to go again. This small store near by the arc de triomphe, had a deep line leading to the entrance. They had many baked goods and desserts arranged behind the show case. After waiting 10 minutes in line, we decide on 6 macaroons, pistachio x3, chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. These were as we remembered them from the states but with the difference that they were even more delicate and airy. The flavors are all solid and each one had a perfectly crisp exterior with a soft pillowy interior the melts in your mouth. As I stated in my previous review was Pierre Herme, my girlfriend and I had a split decision on which we preferred. She preferred the more subtle flavor and delicate texture of Laduree and I preferred the more intensely flavored Pierre. Anyways, go try them both. They are both excellent macaroons. read more

Went here for our last dinner in Paris and it was the worst meal on this trip. These were the things we got, don't make our mistake! 1) Green salad - They probably used 2 big limes as salad dressing. I love sour candies and tart fruits but I could not handle a third bite of the salad. Extremely sour. 2) Butternut squash - Nothing special, just bland. It was not even warm when they brought it out. 3) St. Jac planch (scallops) - The only word I could describe this dish was slimy, from the scallops to the sauce and the vegetables that came with. It was a challenge to finish the 3 small scallops, every bite was so unappetizing. I loved scallops but not after this dish. 4) Bl Qette Veau (veal) - My friend had 3 bites and stopped eating. I didn't want to waste food so I offered to finish it. I had a bite and couldn't continue. The veal tasted exactly like chicken! I just don't get how they could messed up the veal so badly. The worst customer service. My husband and I are visiting from Los Angeles and we wanted to try the Laduree in Paris even though we have one back in Los Angeles where we live. This is definitely one of the worst experience we had and totally not worth it. It took them 20mins to take our order. We had two pot of tea, one mini burger and the pistachio puff dessert. Another wait of 25mins to get my pot of tea and when it came it was already lukewarm. By the time my husband got his tea 15mins later mine is already cold. The mini burger in the Laduree in Los Angeles has 4 burgers in a order but the Paris one only had 3. The meat patty is a lot smaller than the bread and it came COLD, again, the burgers are not warm. The fries are soggy instead of crunch and took them 10mins to get our ketchup. The pistachio dessert was crooked in shape and taste like whip cream. When we pay for the check, the server took 10mins to give our 4.50€ change and it's ALL in coins!!! The macaroons are so so too. Can't even tell the difference between orange blossom or vanilla, they just all taste the same---sweet. Wanted to order the ice cream and the server said they don't have it in the building we have to go literally OUTSIDE, but when we went downstairs they do sell ice creams yet they told us since we got it downstairs not the restaurant we have to eat it outside (it's rainy windy and freezing). On my simple question whether there is a difference between the lanes outside and inside his answer was "depends how you approach it, if you want to cut the line, bla bla bla.... WTH?! One of my plans for visiting Paris was to sample as many macarons as possible! My husband and I managed to stop by Ladurée on our first day in Paris. We ended up not eating dinner here, and just had macarons and coffee. All the macarons tasted delicious, and the Marie Antoinette was definitely memorable. However, my husband said they didn't taste any better than what I could make, so we decided not to order any additional macarons to take home. We were seated upstairs, which had beautiful décor but looked worn out. Service was quick and neither friendly nor rude. The waiters looked like they didn't want to be there and wanted to just hurry up and serve everyone. I was generally aware of the famous Laduree but made no plan to visit, however we passed by this place while sightseeing and couldn't pass up the opportunity to get some macaroons to go. All of the ones we had were great, but the strawberry one is just on another level, it's the best macaroon I've ever had by a country mile, the flavor stimulates as if delivered by pop rocks, the texture and mouthfeel is superb as well. Laduree is the most amazing sweets, pastries, cakes and their signature mini macaron cassis cookies that many try to duplicate and copy, but don't fall for it nothing compares the the best! The only downside is the signature cookies do not keep, you really need to eat them right away, I had one the next day and no dice, the "worth it" factor is not there, if you get my meaning. If I'm going to eat sweets, they need to be amazing !! I think they opened a location at JFK in New York. This was my second time coming here, and again Laduree was full of people either waiting to purchase macarons and cakes or for a place to sit and have tea. Although the line seems long, it gave me time to grab a small booklet and choose the flavors of macarons that I wanted to purchase. The man who boxed my macarons was very patient and kind. *** 3.5 stars *** Laduree used to be one of those places that you just had to visit when you were in Paris. Even though it's always been a bit touristy, the macaroons were really worth waiting in the long line. But then they opened a couple of locations in New York, one in Miami, with locations coming to Los Angeles and DC announced. Being more of a chain and something that you can get in the US makes it less of a must do for any visitor to Paris. Are these still delicious, beautifully presented, and better than your average macaroon? Of course. But I think the macaroons at Pierre Herme are even better. On my last visit to Paris, we were walking past Laduree and decided to pop in. As per usual, there was a long line. Rather than wait in the line, we opted to go to the bar in the back, where you can order drinks and macaroons. The bar is stunning, the drinks are great, and I loved the idea of cocktails and macaroons.. but it was a bit crazy expensive... definitely tourist prices. Oh how much I love Laduree's macaroons. We decided to stop by for brunch. My friend and I both ordered jasmin tea and the smoked salmon avocado toast. Absolutely delicious! The staff took a while to take our order, but finally when one waiter finally attended to us, he always checked up on us every so often. Very nice and pleasant gentleman. Laduree introduced macaroons to the world in 1862 and the world would never be the same. This location in Champs-Elysées is the original location and should be on your Paris must do list. Waiting in line is the norm especially for a table but I stood in the take out line for about 5-10 minutes. We purchased a box of 6 macaroons for over $18 which is over $3 a macaroon. They are expensive and small but loaded with flavor so savor the small bites! We ordered rose, salted caramel, vanilla, chocolate, pistachio and cognac. We were a walking cliche: smitten tourists (smitten with the city, and with each other) strolling the champs elysées, arm in arm...happily munching away on macarons. When I was in Paris last summer, I made a strong decision that I would come back here, lovely Ladurée, soon. And 6 months after, here I am! It's so true that when you think of things you want so hard, it would become reality! I was extremely tempted to order Pistachio cream puff (please see my previous photo of this. it's just so pretty), but decided to try something different this time. This time, I had Chocolate Praline and Macaron with baked apples inside. After breaking chocolate coating, praline cream showed its face. So creamy and so sweet. Before finishing the praline, I had to put my folk into the big macaron. The macaron was just sitting right in front of me, and I just could not resist to taste it. It was so good and definitely met my expectation. This was my happy moment. Wait staff was very pleasant as well. All the sweets had very pretty presentation. LOVELOVELOVE Laduree! This was one of the few places where communication was a problem. I really planned to learn French before I got to Paris, honest! But, I never took it in school and don't really know anyone who speaks it. Being busy and all, I never really got around to learning it. I did however, learn how to say such things as Bonjour, Comment Allez Vous, and Parlez Vous Anglais (Hello, how are you, do you speak english)? To which most people responded, yes, of course, etc. The very kind woman here did not speak English. We pressed on nonetheless and I pointed nicely and smiled humbly for not knowing the language. The best macarons by far are the Salt Caramel and the Pistachio. The Vanilla was good, as was the Strawberry, and Lemon. Coffee was a bit strong, even for me! The line was long but moved quickly. The price isn't cheap but the tastes are decadent and the splurge is worth it! We went twice and I wish I could have them again. I guess this means I need to go back to Paris... The French take a lot of pride in their desserts. You can see many independent chocolatiers and pastry shops all over the city. However, Laduree is the go-to place for excellent macarons. I stopped by the shop, because how could I travel to France and not bring back macarons as presents? The outer shell was slightly crunchy when you first bite in, but chewy towards the end. The filling in the center was full of flavor and delicious. The shop takes a lot of care to make sure each macaron is perfect and that the shopkeepers pack each treat into beautiful packaging. In the end, I blew over 50 USD on a sampler container of macarons, but with their high adherence to quality and detail, I can see why the lines go out the door for this place! They move quickly though and most of the staff speak English. Everyone was really nice. I did have to yell over the noise as I was ordering but it was worth it. As we were there, we considered having tea or dinner later in the day at Ladurée. Dinner won out when I saw the menu. They had foie gras and they had a prix fixe menu. I quickly asked the hostess if we could make a reservation and she was quite helpful. If you want to have dinner at a busy restaurant in Paris, make a reservation in advance. One day, if I'm back, I may come here for tea because the macarons are that fantastic. They also have a full bar in the back. The restaurant is pretty big inside. Once we came back for dinner we just told the hostess about our reservation and we were seated upstairs in the corner. I decided not to drink because the prix fixe was already 51 euro. The maitre d' asked us if we would like water and gave us two choices: still or gas. We said "still" but didn't realize we could have ordered tap. Instead, they brought us a 750 ml bottle of Evian which cost about 8,10 euro. Once we realized that we were paying for water and sparkling lemonade, we sat and drank every last drop of it. For my prix fixe, I went with the pan-seared foie gras with apples, lamb encased in puff pastry with black truffle mashed potatoes, fruit roll mouse cake, and vanilla & Columbian chocolate macarons. Let me just say this was the most extravagant dinner I've ever treated myself to in Europe. It was worth every cent. I'm sure I could have gone to somewhere with a better chef, menu, etc. but this was beyond superb. I was enjoying every single bite of it and finished it all well with a little help from Grace. She ordered the sliders because she could barely stomach it due to a mild case of food poisoning. She ate half of the dessert stuff but didn't try any of the entrees I had ordered. The macarons were amazing. Even though I had bought a box earlier in the day, I didn't eat any of them. The vanilla macaron was the best I've ever had. It was so good, I had to buy more the next day at the airport before leaving for the States. We had a lovely dinner on our last evening in Paris.
