    Pork ribs and chicken dinner

There weren't lady's there when I walked up. It was two men. That surprised me as my soul purpose was to try the lady's food truck. They didn't have the beef ribs which I went for as I usually do not eat pork. I love ribs so I ordered pork today to try but wont in the future. When I was messaging with them on Facebook they failed to let me know they had no fresh squeezed lemonade or drinks in general today. They were out of banana pudding and one other desert along with those beef ribs I was looking forward to. I got Mac n cheese and greens for the side. The Mac could use a little more flavor. I added a squirt of mustard and some parm cheese. The greens were much too salty. I like flavor in my greens but over salted isn't the way. The pork ribs are decent. The chicken was good and moist. I have 3 stars because of the lack of menu items and no lady's though the men were nice.

It's cafeteria style with pricing by the number of "mains" and sides you choose. We both selected fried chicken and it crispy, seasoned just right and juicy. The sides were plentiful. I chose squash casserole and Mac & cheese. My sister took mashed potatoes/gravy and buttered corn. All good. Price for entree, two sides, buttered roll and drink under $20. Place was busy at 12:40 PM but ample seating. Attentive staff checked on us frequently and provided to go drinks. Definitely would eat here again.

It's a black owned business, with a predominately brown staff, and a lot of white patrons. This becomes relevant later in the review. For a while, we were regulars and always got along with everyone in the restaurant. My wife swore they had the best fried chicken in town! As a retired Army War Veteran, I often wear patriotic t-shirts. I have a few t's that display my support for the US Flag and the Veterans who died to defend Her. One day, this did not seem to sit well with the black management; as the Colin Kaepernick incident was still fresh in the minds of most black Americans. The black gentleman who manages the restaurant wasn't his usual jovial self after he saw my t-shirt. After a few visits, I felt a bit unwelcomed only by the black staff. No one else changed. The Black Eyed Pea became my new top restaurant for southern food, but my wife still loved Steph's. So, we continued to go there occasionally, but not as often. After a while, the manager seemed to have returned to his old self and was friendly and joking with us again. After Steph's temporarily closed to give the staff a well-deserved vacation, we started to return as regular customers again. Unfortunately, while eating a bowl of collard greens, a piece of the metal mesh they used to strain the greens got lodged into my gums. This scared my wife as she thought I was choking. I was able to remove the metal wire and I reported it to the manager. He did apologize and recognized that it was from one of his strainers. His final statement to me was "Thank you for understanding." No removal of the contaminated food tray from the line. No replacement side. No complimentary dessert. No refund or discount. At that point, my wife was angry! There are a lot of elderly people who eat there. If one of them had swallowed that wire and was injured, Steph's would have ended up getting sued. Luck was on their side with me not pursuing the matter, but their lack of gratitude and their unwillingness to correct their error got them on my wife's bad side. And we haven't returned since.

As soon as I heard that, I knew we were in for a treat! Being welcomed in before even arriving is just hospitality at its finest. Onto the food. I ordered the Snow Crab shilah, and let me tell y'all, I've dreamt about it ever since. The flavors in every bite were incredible; I was so full after eating half, but I couldn't put it down it was THAT GOOD! Oh, and don't skip out on their lemonades, especially the Blue Mermaid! I'll be counting the days until I'm able to go back. The ladies I talked to there were lovely, the food incredible and deserving of every recognition. If you're in the area, check it out. If I lived closer, I'd be there near daily. 10/10, highly recommend!

I also bought a plate with rice and stewed turkey wings, Mac and cheese and greens. The greens and Mac and cheese was really good. However the rice and meat were a bit high on the sodium. I could not finish it. I would definitely like to try other things on the menu. I would definitely be back for the catfish and cornbread because that was a staple.

All of them that i had were seasoned very well. I had the fried chicken and i wasn't the biggest fan of it, but it was ok. My husband had the catfish and he said it was good! We were in the mood for catfish and I had been wanting to try this place ever since Chef Tony Tone announced it. I had followed him on Ear For Each Other during the pandemic. So happy for him since customers were coming and going while I was getting my to-go order! Our favorite items were the carbs ( no surprise to anyone that knows me!). We would return for the Mashed Potatoes and Mac & Cheese. The fried catfish was freshly prepared but Mike thought it tasted fishy and was a bit spicy for him. We also wanted dark Fried Chicken but all they had was wings. So we got the Roasted Chicken which was good, but probably suffered by being stored on the steam table. Mike liked the fried ribs but only had room for one. The frozen lemonade +sweet tea was way too sweet for me. Wish I could've tried just a sip first. Donut bread pudding was more like iced donuts rather than a moist bread pudding with sauce. Guess that's why it's called Donut bread pudding. We have lots of leftovers but I think we'll be fighting over the mashed potatoes and mac & cheese!
