This review is important to me. I have been visiting my neighborhood vet for over 20 years with multiple dogs and cats. Originally known as Four Seasons Veterinary, located at the corner of Olympic and Tunnel Road. This is now known as Pacific Animal Hospital, for 24 hour emergency care as well as a general veterinary clinic. Lafayette veterinary Hospital. Not to be confused with Lafayette Animal Hospital, located down the street at 3394 Mt Diablo. This location has gone the way of a corporate vet, and lost our business. Just try to get an appointment. Maybe the problem lies with the receptionist, Brittany, or maybe appointment wait times have been decided by the board of directors? Our story...driving home with a 8 week old puppy, I called Lafayette Veterinary Hospital and requested my previous vet by name, his first available appt would be 7 days. Really? OK Pup developed diarrhea, called early in am, Is there anyone who can see us today? Nope, not one vet was available. Dr. Clifton is absolutely amazing at what she does, she is the true definition of a veterinarian that actually cares for animals, specifically dogs. She has amazing bed side manner, she's personable and she explains things in laymen's terms so that you can understand the basics on what's going on with your dog. I was referred by a couple friends to come see Dr. Clifton. We brought our advanced age pup, 12 year old mixed fur baby in to have some dental work done. Jessica, the front desk gal was very helpful in making my appointments. Jennifer the vet tech was very friendly with our fur baby. Mack had his dental extractions surgery and everything has gone well so far. This veterinary hospital does not give off the vibes that they are money hungry; they really make me feel like they care about my fur baby. I would highly recommend this facility if you're looking for quality care for your animal. Go see Dr. Clifton she will take care of your and your animals as best as she can. Dr. Kelly is my puppy and my cat's vet. She is pretty amazing. I have a Pomsky (mini-husky) and a Maine Coon. Both of my "kids" are seen at this clinic/hospital. Anytime I call they fit me in and also keep me up to date with necessary vacs, etc. They have a policy currently wherein you park outside, call them and they come and retrieve your pet and give you info. That's pretty nice, I can sit in my car and do work on my phone while they help my babies. We have a new puppy and made an appointment here. But before our appointment, I was given the advice from someone at the front desk that we can't have her around other dogs until she's fully vaccinated. Even in our backyard? No. Ok, no big deal. She went on to tell us that we also can't have anyone come over who has a dog because Parvo could be on their clothes. Come on! She also told us they don't recommend puppy classes because really she can't be around any other dogs. This would mean she couldn't get socialized until four months. Again, come on! When we went to our appointment with our puppy, no one, literally no one greeted us. No one said, welcome to our clinic or what a cute puppy. Someone whisked us to a room and cleaned off the table. As she was cleaning it, one of her nails flew on the floor. She weighed her. Since we still didn't know who she was, we had to ask. She told us she was the vet tech for our veterinarian. Everything felt so cold and unwelcoming to us. We saw the vet, who we didn't have a problem with. She told us the advice we got from the front desk person was way too extreme. At this point, we knew we'd be finding another vet clinic but since we didn't know how long it would take us to find another clinic, we brought her back for her vaccinations. When we arrived, a tech took her from us and brought her back to us. On our way home, our puppy vomited all over me and the car. My husband called them and they said that was normal after a vaccination. Huh? If it was normal, why didn't they advise we bring a towel or something? Then the person said the tech told me about it. That was a lie. When I called to have her records sent to another clinic, the person with whom I spoke didn't even ask why we were leaving. Either they're used to it or they don't care. read more

After my former vet retired, I was nervous to find a vet that even came close to how fantastic he was. LVH has been wonderful. The staff are so kind, the doctors are so knowledgeable and friendly (and I have seen almost all of them!) They are very intelligent and well versed in so many dog breeds. I was referred here by a friend in the vet field. I have several gripes: 1) they STILL don't let you go in with your pet and you have to wait in the parking lot for an unknown amount of time (hours???) due to "Covid". That reason really isn't justified anymore. All other kinds of professionals (doctors, dentists, orthodontists, other vet offices) have transitioned to offering/requiring masks to clients and allowing them in. 2) they discontinue offering the products they recommend and administer to your pet. Then they wont simplify the process of obtaining alternatives and put up all kinds of road blocks- we are talking flea and tick meds, come on! 3) they schedule you for vaccines but then dont have them all, so they make you come back and charge another "office visit" even though it's a waste of your time to go sit in their parking lot for an hour for the vaccine they didnt have in the first place. You guys should have planned ahead! 4) if you ask for a call from the vet, they don't call you back and have a receptionist tell you that if you are dissatisfied they can send you your records. How professional! This is specific to Dr. Schuman. They are quite quick to call when they want a payment though! I'm taking my dog, my money and my time elsewhere. read more

0 stars. This vet hospital is the worst kind: a scam artist. They take advantage of you and your concern for your pet and try to get you to run unnecessary expensive tests. I brought my dog here because he was having an allergic reaction (red watery eyes/swollen face) to a leptosporosis vaccine (which is the only thing that changed in his routine) and the vet here tried to convince me to get x-rays, glaucoma tests, convince me he had bad genetics (he doesn't I have a full medical record of his parents, etc.), open a conversation about his diet and several useless tactics to get more money out of me. With all the unnecessary tests they quoted $5000, I only paid $200 because I knew what my dog needed (They only gave him an IV). I wouldn't recommend for anyone to go here. People who try to take advantage of you in a vulnerable situation are of the worst kind. Going to this vet hospital was very stressful and a waste of time. If you are considering going here because this vet hospital has the shortest wait time, don't (it has the shortest wait time because it's terrible). My regular vet hospital is Berkeley Dog and Cat and they have always been expetional in the care they have dealt my pets. This was a very frustrating experience. For example, when discussing my dog going home the vet reccomended I monitor him. I asked what I should be monitoring and how. She said to use a rectal thermometer. I told her I would not be able to get a rectal thermometer since it was 1 am. She said she would not recommend using a rectal thermometer. Nothing the vet said was concrete or gave me confidence they knew what they were doing. If you think that the vet merely tried to open a discussion about diets and suggest glaucoma tests to determine the root cause of his issue you are sorely mistaken. The vet and I had a similar conversation about 10 times in the span of 2 hours. I kept informing her in a polite way that nothing had changed, and he has good genetics, and is a young healthy dog. She ignored me and kept trying to convince me he needed more and more tests...all the while he sat untreated and suffering. There is a difference between asking once and asking 10 times in such a way as they did. I hope you ever go here or suffer from the same tactics. You and your pet deserve better. read more

On May 8, I made an appointment for check ups for my three Rhodesian Ridgebacks. The first available appointment was for May 18 at 2:30PM, which I took. Over the weekend, I discovered a lump on one dog and wanted it checked out ASAP. I called on May 11 and was able to get an earlier appointment for May 15 for the one dog; I also rescheduled another girl who came into heat, but kept the May 18 appointment for one dog. When I arrived early for my 2:30 appointment on May 18, I was told that I would have awhile to wait--my appointment was for 3:00PM. This was after holding for six minutes, being transferred to a voice mail box that was full, and needing to call back again (COVID-19 virus protocol to wait in parking lot and call). I did not change the appointment and no one called me to change the appointment; in fact, they called the Friday before to confirm the appointment. The front desk staff were rude and unhelpful, blaming me. I had an appointment for three dogs and it was modified to an appointment for one dog, but they should have been able to make those changes competently. If the time of my appointment was changed, I should have been notified. Once the mistake was made and I was there, the staff and vet involved should have made accommodations to see my dog and honored my appointment. I like Dr. O'Day and Dr. Schumann, but the front desk staff make mistakes and are disrespectful and rude. I have been a patron of this veterinary hospital, through changes of ownership, for over 20 years--Four Seasons, Lamorinda Animal Hospital, now Lafayette Veterinary Hospital, but this is completely unacceptable. Train the front desk staff better (maybe pay better for more competent staff?) or you will have no patrons! I am so sad! Lafayette Veterinary Hospital is no Four Seasons! (Oh how I miss them!). The old reviews on here are correct four season recently underwent a large staff renewal and their new staff from end of 2016-current is terrible. Receptionist seem rather ambivalent to their job and are constantly running to find the vet on staff that day. Last week 2/6/2017 I took my dog in for coughing and the vet told me she has a significant heart murmur and it could be heart failure. With this in mind we did and X-ray and I was suppose to get the results Saturday. After calling twice to check in on Saturday the vet continued to not get back to me after giving me such a horrible prognosis. She also told me it may not be heart failure but ripping in the lining just above her heart. Another scary thought. Now it's Monday and I called to finally have an answer. As I waiting on the phone to talk to dr. Julie she miss informed me that my dogs right side of the heart was enlarged and called me moments after we hung up to possibly correct herself and say the left side. And now they believe my dogs coughing the symptom we brought her in for is due to respiratory problems. Long story short we will not being going back, I asked her to send my dogs records to her normal doctors (who wasn't open at the time of my dogs coughing) and we will continue with ABC animal clinic in San Ramon. I am a big fan of Dr O'Dea in this practice. We were previous patients of his from Fremont Animal Hospital and looked him up a few years later when we moved to the area. He's particularly thorough and takes the time to explain your pet's condition. In addition, he meticulously researches early disease markers and as a result gets ahead of any problems that may arise, potentially extending the life of your pet. He's also mindful of costs and on one occasion when my dog had a severe vasculitis reaction to a vaccination, lobbied for a reimbursement by the vaccine manufacturer, resulting in a rebate of more than $800 in fees to us from the manufacturer who admitted similar reactions in other dogs. Clearly he goes the extra mile and has a passion for animals! Would recommend Dr O'Dea without hesitation. read more

For the sake of your pet, please take them somewhere else. I regret so deeply bringing my dog here and my experience has been soo frustrating and disappointing. I thought this would be a good veterinary hospital because the staff all sounded really nice over the phone. I now understand that was part of the facade. I don't want to discredit the workers here but I really just want to share my experience so others don't make the same mistake. My main complaint is the lack of genuine care they have for your pet. The expensive charges for vaccines, visits, and medicine speak for itself: they only care about your money. I soon learned not to call them and ask my question bc they won't help unless you bring your dog in and get charged for a visit. All I wanted was advice for my dog who recently was diagnosed for luxating patella after taking her to the emergency vet. The care this clinic provides is disgusting. read more

Disappointed when I took my dog in for a shoulder injury. My dog was taken in the back to be examined, when he was returned it was recommended that he get his teeth cleaned and it was urged to do right then and there. The doctor showed me his very brown dirty teeth. I declined the cleaning at the time. Well two days later I looked at my dogs teeth and they were bright shiny and white. I believe they put something on my dogs teeth to make them look dirty. Beware. read more

I was a long time client of this vet and brought my 6 pets to them for years. I had a horrible experience with the office manager and she then told me I could no longer go there with my pets. I reached out to other members of the staff to explain what happened and nobody ever replied. It was really horrible. I had always had good experiences with the doctors and front desk staff. I have never done a negative yelp review but this was so disappointing and upsetting to me. If you decide to use this vet, please avoid Kate the office manager. read more

An amazing and large facility with a family friendly feel. It is clear that Dr. Schuman loves animals and treats your pets as if they were her own. She's patient in answering questions and is skilled in her job. When we had to put our dog down (the poor old guy couldn't walk anymore and was in a lot of pain), it was obviously a very sad and painful time. Dr. Schuman made us feel completely comfortable and was so kind during this heartbreaking goodbye. Front desk staff have also been friendly every time I've gone in. read more

My little dog's hind legs suddenly began falling out from under him while on a walk. I was able to get him into see Dr. Schuman right away. She examined him and took x-rays and determined that he needed to have an MRI because she felt that he may have a herniated disc and that was the only definitive test available. The closest MRI machine available was at UC Davis. She had to wait on hold for half an hour to speak to the vet there as they were very busy. Dr. Schuman recommended I get him there immediately. I am SO very grateful to her for her care and compassion as it was indeed determined that he had a herniated disc. He had immediate surgery because he was in severe pain and the longer we waited the more damage could have been done to his spine and nerves. He has recovered beautifully and is walking normally again. Thank you, thank you, Dr. Schuman and your wonderful caring staff for your fine care. My other senior dog needed her teeth cleaned and I was nervous about her going under anesthesia. Dr. Schuman reassured me she would do all the necessary blood work and exams beforehand to make sure those came back normal which they did and she went ahead and cleaned her teeth. She now has beautiful pearly whites again! Thanks for all your excellent care, Dr. Schuman. You're the best!! read more

Our experiences with this clinic have been anything but positive. In short, they are rude and disrespectful. How unfortunate.

The problem with vet clinics is some of the vets may be excellent and some not. I've been going to Four Seasons Animal Hospital for several years with different animals. The change of ownership to Lamorinda Animal Hospital seemed a non-factor as far as I was concerned. Unfortunately this is no longer the case I brought my small lhaso-mix dog (Penny) in on a Saturday morning. We noticed Friday evening that she was limping on her front left paw. I trimmed the hair thinking maybe it was a fox tail or burs. I only found a small bleeding cut that I cleaned up. There was a lot of swelling and redness in her paw. Next morning there was more swelling going up her leg and she was lethargic and the leg was super painful but it was weight bearing (not broken). I appreciated the office's willingness to let us drop Penny off and do a phone consult. The office has always been accommodating. Dr Kuester called me back to give me her first findings- she wanted to sedate Penny, shave & clean, and see what was going on. Great. Green light go Second call- kuester said there was a lot of bruising from her paw up her shoulder and in her chest and spreading to her abdomen. She suggested blood work and x-rays. She thought is was an autoimmune problem with blood clotting problems. I explained we moved to Briones literally 3 days earlier, where we have seen rattle snakes, and I thought maybe it was a bite. Kuester was very insistent that because she didn't see any "tracks" or puncture wounds- it most likely was not, nor could not be snake bite. When I told her I had a limited budget, she seemed put-off. Those of us with limited budgets are sensitive and when a vet begrudgingly suggests an alternate plan, we can hear it in their voice. She sent us home with pain meds, antibiotics and steroids. That visit cost $330 - exam, sedation, a few IM antibiotics, and take home meds. They charged me an extra "fit-in" fee. Nobody mentioned this surprise, but technically the bill was under our budget so seems like they felt it wasn't necessary to mention. 6 hours wasted, and one INCREDIBLY sick dog--- of course it was a snake bite and Kuester missed it. I took Penny to Sage later that evening as the redness and bruising got worse. They immediately id'd the problem as snake bite and after 24 hrs of hospitalize care and 2 vials of anti-venom, I'm happy to say Penny survived. That visit was over $2k. My problem is NOT with human error. Docs miss stuff all the time. What really drives me to writing this review (the FIRST negative review I've ever written, ever!) is the office's response to the incident. Kuester has not taken any responsibility for the misdiagnosis. In fact, she tried to argue it could still be an autoimmune problem even though after 2 vials ($850!) of anti-venom the dog is fine. Kuester should stick to working with animals and not try dealing with angry customers. I called back on Monday I asked to speak to Dr Schuman or Pierce (our usual vet). Keep in mind, no one had bothered to call me by 10:30am to check on Penny. Because the reception said so, I thought I was being transferred to Dr Schuman (owner) but Dr. Kuester took my call and tried to explain she was "just about to call me." (10:30am, office opens at 8am). Our conversation did not go well and I asked to speak to Dr Schuman. I was on hold for about 10 minutes and decided to call back. The reception was amazing and apologetic. I asked that Dr Schuman call me back after she and Dr Kuester got their stories straight. Later that afternoon I got a call back. (Pro-tip: when you have a really pissed off customer you ought to be proactive and tell them when to expect all call back) Dr Schuman was very patient and did listen. Her tone of voice was sympathetic. I admire her as an employer because, right or wrong, she really tried to stand behind Dr Kuester's services. Too bad the services were completely awful! All the vets who treated Penny at Sage Emergency said this was an obvious bite. They explained that snake bites may not always have the typical "tracks" or puncture- especially the baby snakes. When they see 90% of the visual symptoms they assume it's a bite. They can verify the venom in one blood test, which they did for Penny. Dr. Kuester never recommended this specific blood test to rule in or rule out snake bite. Sage Emergency has had 9 cases of snake bites in the past 2 weeks!! I think they know! Schuman may be a wonderful vet. I know Tammi Pierce is an awesome vet; she doesn't work on Saturdays. If you go to Lamorinda Animal Hospital, you're rolling the dice; you have a 25% chance of having a doctor who likes to chase down rabbit holes and soak your wallet all at the expense of your pet. That's not a chance I can take anymore. (NOTE: According to Dr. Schuman, Lamorinda Animal Hospital does NOT STOCK ANTI-VENOM! Lesson learned as well- Go straight to Emergency if you suspect snake bite!) read more

Thank God for Lamorinda Vet Hospital! The staff is so friendly and competent. We have taken Buzz in 3 times since the ownership changed, and heartily recommend their services and expertise. Good experience every time. Then today Buzz got into mini-chocolate bars and we rushed him up there, not knowing how many he ingested. He was taken right in. Induced vomiting yielded 18 chocolate bars with foil wrappings intact (!), and he was given proper after-procedure treatment. We were worried sick, but Buzz emerged looking alert and happy to see us. He is fine now. read more

Lamorinda Animal Hospital is now LAFAYETTE VETERINARY HOSPITAL. Take note. Yesterday my dog and I visited under the new regime. Dr. O'Dea was so calm and affectionate to my crazy cattle dog to begin with. He gave her a thorough exam before administering her leptospirosis and rattlesnake vaccines. He discussed health, weight and diet. He took the time to make friends with my normally shy dog and she responded positively to his warm demeanor. I have had hit or miss experiences here and at Muller in the past few years but now I look forward to my dog having a long term relationship with Dr. John O'Dea. read more

Our recent visit under new ownership was disappointing. Dr. Schaffer no longer is here and we saw Dr. Norton. We disagreed with some of his recommendations, and felt like we got a sales pitch for specific vaccinations that aren't necessary for our dog's lifestyle (e.g. kennel cough when he is never boarded and doesn't interact with a lot of dogs). Prices under new ownership seemed a bit higher, but it was hard to tell for sure. We'll be finding a new office. read more

I really love Lamorinda Animal Hospital. Everyone is seriously SO NICE! A dog where I work got kennel cough, which is super contagious and despite trying to be very careful, I managed to bring it home with me and both my dogs have caught it. We brought in my lab Kevin and he's a bit crazy... but the LAH despite being super busy, squeezed us in last minute. And even after we were 15 mins late due to a very long commute from our home in Discovery Bay they were so nice, and accommodating and answered all my silly questions without judgement. They handled Kevin so well, who honestly is the newest dog of a pack of 3 and didn't have quite as much human socialization as he should have. Therefore, he maybe doesn't have the best people manners LOL on top of that fact that he's a 1 yr old high energy lab. Their pricing is very reasonable, they have a very no pressure approach, and are very upfront about opinions, options and costs. Tomorrow we're bringing our second dog in for his Kennel Cough appointment and I'm expecting great things again. We're really looking forward to building a relationship with Lamorinda. read more

We just started bringing our dogs to LAH. Dr. Schuman was our vet several years ago and we were very excited to find out she opened her own practice. She is warm and patient with both our dogs (a high energy Rott and timid little chihuahua mix). Dr. Schuman always takes the time to let the dogs warm up to her before she starts her exams. I never feel rushed and she answers all my questions. She's also very conscientious of our finances and gives us varying degrees of possible treatments. I know she cares more about what is best for the dog than she does about how much she's going to earn. Dr. Schuman is a great vet and we feel very lucky to have found her. read more

I have 15 years of professional, paid animal care experience in local nonprofits. I have raised my dog since she was a puppy. My standards are high, you failed to meet them, and failed to address my concerns with anything but indignance. Updating this because I keep thinking: McDonald's never messes up my order. Why couldn't this office get right? This is why I'm not comfortable with my dog disappearing in the back here. How am I supposed to have confidence doses are being administered correctly to the correct animal? I called you to talk about this before I made a negative Yelp review. I consulted other vets about everything I experienced here and they were more sympathetic than me or unwilling to comment. One told me I could have reminded them about the flea meds. I don't believe it's up to me to manage the staff here. I would have liked to see some desire to improve. I am glad that I saw this side of things under these circumstances because how would Dr. Shuman have reacted in the worst case scenario resulting from one of her practices oversights? Would my concerns still be "unfair"? What would be truly unfair is if my dog went in for something routine and never came out again. Our new vet is great by the way. read more

Hands down some of the best care my cat has received in her 17 years of life. The receptionist was attentive and both interacted and laughed while my toddlers were toddlering in the lobby. I knew then we were in the right place. It's hard going anywhere with toddlers. They not only were kind to my two but had popcorn and mini water bottles on hand to entertain them. I can not say enough about Dr. Schuman. From the moment she walked in the room I felt like we were old friends. She managed to connect with me while she bonded with my sweet old lady cat. My cat has NEVER liked a vet until this visit. She was so content being there that Dr. Schuman could barely hear her heartbeat over her purrs. Unlike most vets we have been to, we were not hit with a barrage of testing and wallet emptying suggestions. She explained everything she was doing and why things were needed. I left feeling informed instead of bewildered. I highly recommend Lamorinda Animal Hospital and look forward to many years working with this amazing team. read more

I was in town visiting my in-laws when my dachshund fell ill with some digestive issues. I couldn't be happier with the care we received at Lamorinda Animal Hospital. They were able to squeeze us in the same day I called. The service and care we received from both the general staff and the vet (I believe we saw Dr. Schaffer) was excellent. My dog's issues didn't clear up right away, and the follow up phone calls were extremely helpful. It was obvious that everyone at the animal hospital was concerned with my dogs health and wanting to make both him and I feel better. I decided to try this place out because my current vet has limited hours and I really needed a vet to stay open past 5. They were able to get me in the next day. My dog had been scratching her ears for a couple weeks and I wanted to have them checked out. Plus, she needed a vaccine shot. I arrived 10 minutes early for my apt. The girl at the counter was nice and took me back in a room relatively soon. I have a very anxious and nervous dog and she was shaking. Things were going fine, but then they made me wait almost an hour before getting seen by the vet ugh. The whole time I am trying to calm my dog down and I was growing so frustrated I almost left at one point. The vet tech came in a couple times to check in, but that only aggravated my dog more. Finally after an hour the vet came in and was very apologetic and had an excuse, but still not a good first impression. My dog of course was very scared and growling. The vet proceeded to tell me all the stuff I needed to do and left again for another 10 minutes to bring me a quote for $544. WTF She wanted me to do blood test and all this crazy stuff no way! I got it down to $213 which was still pricey ugh. I'm supposed to go back in two weeks to get the rest of her shots and I am sure they will try to get more $ of me. After that, I don't think I will be back. On a positive note, the facility is clean and the staff were very nice. If they didn't make me wait so long I think my experience would have been much better. read more

Little disappointed, have taken my dog here before my vet moved out of practice. Tried to make an weekend appointment and they were more worried about getting money for a wellpet exam than making sure my pet didn't go to thru the long weekend with a UTI... All about the buck and not about the pet. read more

I called Lamorinda Animal Hospital this morning (Monday) at 9:34 a.m. I explained that our elderly dog "Mulligan" who suffers from severe arthritis was in so much pain that he couldn't walk and and when he tried to re-position himself on his dog bed, he would yelp out in pain. I requested a refill of his pain medication as we were completely out. We were hoping to keep Mulligan comfortable for two more days so as a family we could take him and his canine sister to one of his favorite places .. the dog beach in Albany CA. We knew it is time to say "good-bye" but had hoped for this one last special outing. I shared this with the staff at Lamorinda Animal Hospital. By 2:43 p.m. (five hours later!), I had not heard back from them, so I placed a second call. I was told that they had "been busy". I reminded them of how much pain Mulligan was suffering. They said they would get back to me. Again, I waited .. two hours! Concerned that Mulligan may have to spend the night without pain medication, I called at 4:31 (my third call of the day). It was getting close to closing time and commute traffic was getting worse. "Oh.. the refill was filled within the last hour". Why didn't anyone call me?! "The staff has been busy". (As an aside, their waiting room is never been standing room only and the parking lot is empty .. so I don't know what they are "busy" doing). Inexcusable. Unacceptable. Cruel. A dog can't even stand up because of excruciating pain and the staff is "too busy" to refill meds. I agree with a review written by Alex S. in February. The reviews for Four Seasons Vet Hospital don't apply to this incompetent, uncaring and, yes, ambivalent staff. My poor dog.... read more

Disappointed - told to bring in my dog at 7:30am for procedure and I was first one in the office. Called at 12pm to see how my dog was doing and was told that another dog was being worked on and my dog was next. I said we were first ones at the office and was not happy with being told to come at 7:30am which I did and no one else was there. Unless there was an emergency (and I was not told there was one) the office should have informed me of the delay. If I ran my business in that matter, there would be many complaints. read more
