She is quite feisty and some veterinarians have said in the past they wouldn't see her unless sedated. Then she met dr. Gerry... Very happy and very pleased with Orinda Veterinary Clinic. I inherited two house cats. I was not confident with getting them in a carry to a vet last year so used a service that came to the house. I knew I needed to find a local vetrinarian office but kept putting it off. This week one of the cats developed a problem with one of his eyes. An experience cat owner friend advised me to take him to the vet. I called Orinda Veterinary Clinic because it was close to where I live and thought it would be convenient. I called rather close to closing time and talked to Lisa - who was so caring and kind and professional. Because the office was closing soon for the day she gave me resources should the situation get worse after hours. She said someone would call me the next day to follow up to try to get my cat seen sooner than the next available appointmment which was several days away. Sure enough the next morning I received a call from another professional, caring member of the Clinic. An appointment was set for that day. I received a call back just a few minutes later to say there had been a cancellation and I could take that time. Perfect! I arrived on time and was warmly greeted by the person at the front desk. I waited a few minutes and then was seen by Dr. Gerry. He was efficient, professional and answered all my questions respectfully. I thought he was terrific. He was great with my cat. The cost for the appointment and medication was reasonable. I was very pleased and very happy with this experience. read more

I can't say enough good things about this clinic. Every one of the vets is professional and kind and the practice as a whole is well-run. They are extremely busy, however they never let that negatively affect your experience. Their prices are fair and they will always work with you to find the best treatment plan within your comfort levels. They will never perform unnecessary testing and procedures and give you agency over the whole process of caring for your furry family member's health. If I could rate them ZERO stars I would. Once again we've taken our 65 pound lab/pit/+ mix and once again come home with a bill and nothing more. Stanley growls. He's afraid. The vets have given us meds to give the pooch to calm him in advance of his appointment. We have done it. What does the doctor do? Instead of trying to make the dog feel comfortable and interact with him he immediately approaches with a device to look at his ears and the is afraid. Maybe Orinda Vet should be limited to 6 lb dogs. What confuses me is that they took care of our dog for a couple years without any issue. Now, they can't manage him? Why? The dog is not more aggressive, he's less aggressive. I'd change the name to Orinda Hamster Clinic. read more

The cheapest vet visit in the East bay !! After calling abut 10 places, most of which were $50-78 just for the exam, I settled on this spot because the visit is $34. I just brought my rat, Oozjie to see Dr. Laurie Langford DMV - got a same-day appointment. Very helpful desk staff! Dr. Langford was patient, kind, helpful, and knowledgeable - even about rats, which aren't her specialty - and she gave me a good price on the x-ray ($50 instead of $100), and sent me home feeling much better about my love. I've been bringing cats and dogs here for many years. And while I don't want to encourage more hordes to frequent the clinic, I have to thank Drs Gerry and Ben. They took my dog in today on an emergency basis and pulled a foxtail out of his nose, trimmed his nails, and flossed his teeth. The emergency vet we visited yesterday (a different establishment) didn't think the dog needed anything. Grrrrr!!! The customer service is horrible. They are always running 15-30 minutes late. You can't go into the building with your dogs and have to wait in parking lot. No stars. I brought my ailing cat in to see Dr. Gerry, who everyone in Orinda raves about. I feel like they raped me! My cat was definitely on her last legs and I wanted to make sure she wasn't suffering. I asked him to check her out, and agreed to a couple of basic tests. $600 and one day later, there was no diagnosis, so I decided it was best to take kitty home. I had not authorized all the tests and interventions they did, so I expressed my frustration to the staff when I paid the bill. I had only authorized $250-300 in tests. My cat died the next day. I got a call back from the staff, saying they had relayed the message to Dr. Gerry about my being mad about the bill overages. He replied to me in a letter, that he had sent the amount in question to the Oakland SPCA in memory of my cat.Wasn' t that nice...Dr. G gets a tax deduction in my cats name. BEWARE OF OVERCHARGES, this place is a rip off! read more

I came home last night after work to a dog in terrible pain...quivering, shivering, can't move kind of pain. With no visible signs of trauma or injury, I called Orinda Vet at 5:30pm. Dr. Gerry said to bring my dog in ASAP. Bless him! He knows I live a 20 minute drive away. Long story short, Dr. Gerry figured out that somehow my idiot dog had hurt his neck and after various muscle relaxant and pain killer shots in the office and three 'scripts for the same, we came home just after 6:30. The dog was so loopy he fell over more than once in the evening, but at least he wasn't in pain anymore. He woke up this morning back to his old self. THANK YOU Orinda Vet Clinic and Dr. Gerry for seeing me double time fast. I would not have been able to wait over night to get his pain resolved. You are all awesome! read more

I don't know why I've not reviewed Dr. Gerry before! Our experiences here have been nothing short of amazing! We have an 8 year old Cairn Terrier (think Toto from wizard of oz) that has been coming here since she was weeks old! The 'puppy class' played an integral role in making her the member of our family she is today. We learned a ton about our dog when a dog expected to weight 18 pounds was asked to attend the 'big dog class' largely due to attitude! AWESOMENESS! She is well behaved and healthy. As she reaches middle age the staff at OVC helps us assess what to expect. I highly recommend this business as a long term relationship for anyone needing dog or cat rearing and care advise! read more

Orinda Veterinary is worth the drive from San Francisco! After being nickel & dime'd by a popular San Francisco clinic, I had to bring my 14 year old Labrador in when she couldn't walk anymore. The staff was extremely sensitive to our needs during this particularly difficult time. I eventually replaced our old Labrador with a SPCA dog, who had some aggression issues. Dr. Langford has a very calming demeanor. The office visits are easy to schedule and quite reasonable. read more

For those of you who have to have your beloved pet killed/put down/euthanized, etc soon... This review is for Dr. Gerry. I took my best friend since I was 9 years old, Felice, to be humanely killed. It was her time to go, like many cats she had kidney problems. They have an entire separate office for surgery and farewells next to the regular dog vet office. Before this I had imagined big machinery hooked up to your beloved pet by an uncaring, cold, methodical employee. They push a button, machines pump and your pet dies. That was not it at all. Dr Gerry talked with us and explained what was going to happen then what was happening while it was happening. His attitude felt genuine; he seemed as sad as us but was able to talk to us the whole time. There are no big machines, just you, your pet, the doctor, a syringe and a colorful, plush blanket to set your pet on. If you're dreading that moment but you know the time is right, see Dr Gerry. Best vet ever. I'm so surprised by the 1-star reviews, because Dr. Gerry and Dr. Laurie are tops in my book. Here's a few examples of what I've loved about this hospital that is out of the ordinary. I own very skinny dogs (whippets) who don't respond well to pre-anesthetics, etc. When needing to do surgical procedures, Dr. Gerry has been willing to use gas only (harder for the vet, easier on the animal) or to do some procedures without full anesthesia. This is normally a giant struggle because most vets just want a totally unconscious animal because it's easier for them, even if more dangerous. I got a puppy recently, and Dr. Gerry took what could have been one appointment and split it into two with no additional charge-- he didn't want to do "too many things to her at once." Instead, we came in one day for two vaccines and lots of petting and cookies, then I came back two weeks later for a microchip. In between he had me come by just to say hello and get cookies. In general, I've found the prices to be very reasonable and both vets are not trigger-happy on prescribing treatments or medications. They take plenty of time to talk to you, and more importantly, they spend plenty of time with your animals, making them feel comfortable and unafraid. At times, I've come in for an "is this ok or should I be worried" kind of visit and wasn't charged at all. I feel very lucky that I wound up living near such a great practice. read more

After a bad experience with another vet in a different clinic who never checked my cat's mouth despite an overnight stay for observation, and totally missed how jaundiced he was becoming, I came here because a friend recommended them. Wow, very caring vet! Everyone took so much time explaining things to me, giving me information, laying out options, and helping me get the best care I could with my limited income. We don't know if my kitty is going to make it but we're going to try really hard. They have been so good to my kitty and I. And let me tell you, the nice ladies at the front desk are lighting fast with tissue box. I really feel like they're with me on this, and that the vet is fighting for my baby too, while being realistic about making the merciful choice if things get worse. Liver failure and a mass on the liver is a bad sign. But they are trying really hard and being very kind! read more

Unbelievable how hard it is to trust vets right? Not these people, super caring, NEVER feel like they are ripping you off, flexible, and really believe in putting your animal first. The dog had some messed up teeth boy, let me tell you. We used this place due to previous reviews and it being so close to the house. Due to the seriousness of the issue, they found time for us less than a week out and they fixed her up, signed sealed and delivered. I drive from Pleasant Hill to bring my orange tabby Lukas here.. not only do the vets here put me at ease but Lukas loves them honestly.
