Layered cake house. That is what Lagkagehuset means. And apparently that is very traditional for birthdays. This place has it all so many different options. I could go back there every day for a week and still have something new to try. You can't go wrong. The line can be long, but it will go fast and look at all these options so beautiful so tasty. I even stopped at another one in the city and it was very good. Must try the local favorite with poppy seeds.
I love this place so much! We went to two different Lagkagehuset while in Copenhagen. This is where I had Passionsnitten and Flødebolle med kokos. The former is very refreshing with a crispy base of chocolate and coconut and the top part is a mousse like cake with passion fruit and pistachios. The latter is a cream bun with a marzipan filling, coated with dark chocolate and coconut shavings. These pastries are definitely on the sweeter side so I definitely recommend pairing them with some coffee.
To the point: Fantastic pastries..! Period Coffee: Top Notch Ambiance: perfect for the morning wake up or afternoon walk. Came here because of the close location. Good choice,, excellent selection and taste. Took a seat near the canal side and watched the boats and cyclists moving about while enjoying my cappuccino and chocolate danish.. Staff very friendly and helpful in deciding what great pastries to try. Quick service and preparation. Good place for a way to strategize how to plan the day..!
Before I left S CA I asked around where I should go for a good danish and here I am. This place was great. I was hoping for an apple flavored danish but tried a few others. Will definitely recommend this location if anyone comes from abroad.
Now you can't go to Denmark without having a Danish, can you? At least that's how I justify sugary carb intakes that are truly, truly bad for me. Much to my surprise, it turns out that Danish aren't even Danish. They're Viennese, and they didn't even originate in Vienna. They're actually based on Turkish baklava, which I could've purchased down the block from me in San Francisco at the local Turkish gyros place. But who cares? They sell Danish in Denmark, and I read that this is the place to get them. A popular chain of bakeries in the city, Lagkagehuset is especially busy at its Christianshavn corner location on Torvegade. As you'd expect, there are abundant baskets of baked goods and pastries in the window and the long display case, and crowds of people browsing (see photos). You pull a number and wait. Just between you and me, nothing really excited me much. It all looked appetizing enough, but they didn't look terribly creative in execution either. I ended up getting a berry-chocolate tart filled with a strawberry cream (see photo) for 26.40 DKK (Danish krone), which is roughly $4.80. The chocolate crust was too hard for my taste even though the strawberry cream was lighter than I expected and not too sweet. But it didn't rev my engine to get a box to go. Better looking were the loaves of fresh bread, but alas, I was not planning to feed a Danish soccer team. SWEETS - 3 stars...pretty enough but execution was more routine than I was hoping for the calories AMBIANCE - 2.5 stars...a big space but few seats available SERVICE - 2.5 stars...a bit on automatic pilot with little assistance TOTAL - 3 stars...so I got my Danish in Denmark...can check it off my list now
My second try at a Lagkagehuset (first was at Copenhagen Central Station). This time, we were in the middle of our hop-on hop-off bus tour around and the city, and this branch was conveniently located right next to our bus stop. What else was I supposed to do while waiting for a bus? The clear windows were full of sweets calling out to me. I had also been told by a native friend to try the Romkugle, which is a Danish rum ball. It was around $3 for one, or $7 for 3. I got three, not knowing at the time this thing was chock full of rum. Whether it had anything alcohol left it in or not, I doubt or know, but I handed two off to my fellow travelers who were very religious and abstain from all alcohol. Sorry! Anyway, the rum ball was dense, moist, and rum-my in flavor. If that's your thing, you will love these. For me, not so much. They were almost like a Brasilian brigadeiro, which I prefer. The service here was ok. It was super busy, lines were hectic, but all-in-all, no problems. The layout and look was different to the other branch I had visited, and again, it was fun to window shop, and see the variety of sweets they offered.
A yum and a yum yum yum! This place has a baked good for any craving! My friend and I walked by their window and had to go in. This was a good decision. The place was bustling and we immediately took a number as we wanted in on the action. We got a large chocolate ball and a strawberry cream tart. The large chocolate ball had a wonderfully fudgy consistency and tasted like rum. Oooh la la, hiccup! The strawberry tart was my favorite as the cream and strawberry ratio was perfection. The crust on the tart was also delicious as it tasted like a glazed shortbread that enhanced the strawberry and cream as opposed to taking away from it. The place was clean and super efficient as well. I will be back for another strawberry tart and this time...I'm not sharing!!!
I've never been happier to see the Hare Krishna, than at this Christianshavns Kanal location. After years of trying to avoid making eye contact with them, refusing to take that damn flower they've been offering me for decades, or giving nothing back in return when surprised into accepting it - I could finally throw that guilt monkey off my back by offering them instead half of the Gulerodskage (Carrot Cake) and wienerbrodstang (literally: long piece of wienerbrod: Vienna bread - made of dough, butter, sugar, marzipan/custard/jam). That way, I could avoid the guilt of buying something that I had no physical means of finishing, and the only reason I'd been forced to buy the size was because there were no smaller sizes available. Lagkagehuset is a more than competent mini-chain bakery. I can't say I loved any of the items I tried, but then this was the afternoon of the same day when I'd consumed some exceptional baked goods at Andersen's Bakery in the morning. That said, if you're in the area, and you should be for the Christianshavns Kanal, do stop by and try their Romkugle (Rum balls) and Direkter snegl (Chocolate snails) There is a continuous flow of customers, so do remember to take a number when you walk in - and don't let the rude customers (likely all tourists) cut ahead of you...
I don't know what to say about this place. It's pure perfection. No bakery in the US even comes close. Get the cinnamon snail / wheel / roll. I don't care how people call it. This is what everyone should try. Their house drip coffee is amazingly fresh and lovely, too. I can't get tired of drinking it.

I'm in love with Lagkagehuset. Truth be told I haven't tried any of their delicious looking pastries, but they have a slice of marzipan with chocolate that is gluten-free and incredible. In addition to bread and pastries, they have a delicious coffee menu which includes flat whites, which are typically very difficult to find in Copenhagen. I recently discovered that they offer a 30% discount to students. Amazing! With locations all around CPH, this is the perfect excuse to purchase more of their delicious and high quality coffee & baked goods. Apparently they also have a selection of gluten-free cakes-- the perfect return for more tasty treats.
This is an above-average authentic local bakery with outstanding pastries, slightly better than average pizza and good coffee. It is frequented by locals and is extremely popular as evidenced by the fact that you must take a number to be served. This is also a terrific corner location to people watch in Christianshavn, a rather unique, and in my view, somewhat downtrodden area. The one huge negative was the fact that there was a person, who appeared to be well known to the servers, who was allowed to walk around and talk to everyone. First he would say God bless you and minutes later he was asking for money. The patrons near me clutched their purses and he walked by. I simply told him in a stern voice to get away from me. Interestingly, when I mentioned this guy to the servers and asked why they allowed this I was told, "we wish we could do something about it. I think this bakery would be well advised to make certain that a man was on staff at all times to get rid of the vagrants.
First of all, be sure to take a number when you first walk in. The displayed number is toward the back, near the entrance, so it is not obvious after you walk in toward the counter. I stood there for a few minutes and didn't understand why several others who came after me got served first. This is a Copenhagen bakery chain, but I like this location because it has a beautiful view of the canal-lined houses of Christianshavn. I didn't find too many desserts here, but got a ham and cheese sandwich. It was simple, but very good. The ham and cheese were flavorful together, and the creamy Dijon mustard was especially delicious. I do wish there is an option to toast the sandwich, but it was pretty good cold too. read more
I had a really nice experience here... the staff are calm, pleasant and very helpful! I explained to the staff member that I wanted the same Danish ( Kanelstag Stykke) I had at Central Station, they were sold out ( vanilla custard filled danish). She made an alternate suggestion, nuts and vanilla cream Danish. I also wanted the Xmas tree marshmallow treat again. She placed it in a small box as to not have it crushed. Wow! A small kind way of packing it as opposed to how København H( Central Station) placed it in a paper bag. The store is bigger than other locations. It was busy however the staff did a great job in staying sweet, calm and line was organized beautifully. Thank you! Great experience and delicious treat! read more

Good for a chain bakery, and with pretty reasonable prices by Copenhagen standards. I think all of their locations have a very large selection of buns, pastries, small tarts/cakes, and full-sized cakes. Most of the Danish pastries are about 20-21 DKK. FYI, they have an interesting system here where you take a number when you come in, and wait until they call you to order. While the kanelsnegl (cinnamon snail/roll) here didn't really blow me away, I was pretty impressed by the strawberry tart (30 DKK). It's a pretty decent-sized tart and is topped with 7 large strawberries (I believe they are all full strawberries and not halves) and some almond slices. I tried one near the end of strawberry season (end of September) so the strawberries weren't very sweet and were a bit on the blander side, but I can imagine this tart would be amazing in the summer with sweeter strawberries. read more
OH this place....my favorite bakery in Denmark. And if it weren't for a few hidden gems in Paris, this would be my favorite Bakery in Europe. Look in the window, write down the names of things that look good so you don't look like an idiot when you get up to the counter. Then get a ticket and wait for your turn. Repeat a few times over your stay until you've tried every single thing there. The Danish to USD currency conversion always confused the heck out of me, so I have no idea if this place is a good deal or what it all cost, but it was so worth every penny/kroner. Lagkagehuset is a nice bakery and a good place to grab coffee or tea. You can get a various of breads/cakes etc of high quality and if you're there to get a quick breakfast it's also possible to get Skyr with granola and berries... The bakery is pretty pricey and I don't get why a large tea costs 5-7 kr more than a small tea, when it's basically just hot water I'm paying for. read more
