I wanted something simple (not spicey, not fried) like fish, and our concierge recommended and made reservations for us at Laguna Libre. We were immediately greeted and seated in a small cozy room. I ordered the sea bass fillet in paper with potatoes, onions, and tomatoes, and my husband ordered the home pasta with tomato sauce, celery, onion, and long cooked carrots. My dish was exactly what I was hoping for, tender, healthy and hearty; cooked to perfection. Everything was tender and delicious. My husband was happy with his pasta dish. I tried his too, it was delicious. For dessert I had the Parfait with Toasted Almonds and Dark Chocolate. It was mind-blowing! Hopefully the picture does it justice. It was amazing! Main dish took close to an hour to come out. When we asked about the wait, the response was "the kitchen had other things to do." Food was good but not better than other Italian food I've had so far. The space is nice and the jazz was decent for a smooth jazz fan, not the New Orleans jazz as advertised. Came here for vegan and gluten free options. What a magnificent experience we had at Laguna Libre. The ambience, the view, the service, the food, and the live music were out of this world. While exploring Venice we stopped because of the music. We noticed that a band was setting up, and it so happens that the restaurant was sponsoring a Jazz Music Festival. The group playing was the Balkan Trio with magnificent vocals, a guitar player, a drums. We got a table right in front of the band - a huge plus since the possibility of live music was the main reason we stopped in the first place. We ordered two bottles of wine, which were incredible. Then three of us ordered the three-course meat plate, and the other ordered the Lasagna, which was out of this world. One of the many things that really surprised me was the fact that while seated I read a plaque on the wall of the restaurant building that highlighted the fact that from 1743 to 1744 that building in particular had served as the French Embassy, and that Jean-Jacques Rousseau, the French Enlightenment philosopher himself had lived and worked as the secretary for the embassy during that time period. We could imagine him peering out the windows and looking into the Venician canals; walking through those doors, while writing the great ideas that would inspired the American Revolution not long after and would eventually lead to the French Revolution itself. This was an experience like no other. We were the last ones to leave. We said good night to a happy staff, at that point of the night, seated by a table ready to close their own days, and made our way down the narrow alleys and waterways of our Venetian summer! Starting with the best - the outdoor tables have a beautiful view of the canal and a great spot to see the sunset! The music was fun to have right there! I feel like this space is best suited for music and drinks only. The carbonara pasta I had was undercooked. (the pasta itself) That was disappointing. The pork in it was fine and tasty, but the texture of the pasta was not done correctly and was not served very hot. The servers were extremely friendly, but I think the night we were there, they were dealing with a very slow kitchen. We waited more than an hour for our food to arrive and drink service was extremely slow too. Beautiful spot! But they have some service kinks to work out. read more

I'll preface my review by saying I'm an American with an unrealistic impression of fresh pasta, simply because we have none in the States. But I can unequivocally say that Laguna Libre's gnocchi is the best that I've ever had. I was not expecting the mouth orgasm that I just had. It had that comfort food feel with Italian flare that made it unique and fantastic. I wish I had the recipe. My favorite meal in the short stay I had in Venice. My wife had the lasagna, which, despite not having any meat, was amazing. The sauce on it was incredibly rich and it balanced well with the noodles and cheese. This place was the best food we've had since we've been in Venice. We tried the 3 way mean which consisted of pork carpaccio, homemade pasta carbonara and tiramisu. All three were mouthwateringly delicious! We also ordered off the individual menu. My daughter had a fresh salad and their meat lasagna. Every dish was better than the next! The lasagna was divine! We were disappointed in food in Venice until we came to this gem of a restaurant. Ambiance, food, service is beyond expectations. Highly recommended. Only wish I had discovered this sooner. It's spacious, the staff is attentive and extremely welcoming. The menu is a fusion of neuvo Italian. Staff speak multiple languages including French. They were happy to make minor changes to a dish for me without hesitation. It's cozy for small groups and also large enough to accommodate larger groups. They also have live jazz on some nights. We were excited to try out a place with jazz music for dinner which is the next door to our hotel. Upon arrival we were met by a lady who assured us that their place is the best in the area. She was trying to be nice and gave us a table without a reservation even though the place wasn't full and tables were available. The waiter approached pretty fast and took our order because we were ready. As it turned out house wine wasn't available because as i was told they are organic and stuff. I decided to try red wine by the glass which was not bad even though the first glass had a fluff residue on the bottom after the wine was gone. We asked for a water and it was provided (not bottled but microfiltered at the premises as i was informed) We waited for our order for about 75 minutes. That's loooong especially if you are hungry. But we were trying to enjoy music and waited patiently. The food was good, not awesome though: mushroom Risotto was warm, rabbit stew was lacking rabbit, pasta with tomato/basil sauce was ok. The most unpleasant experience happened at when i asked for a check: there were charges for cover €3 per person (at a sit down place), for music €3 per person and €4 for water. That same lady who met us at the door argued with me when i asked that the cover charge is the law in Italy and that i can google it if i don't believe her. At that point i just asked for a change so that we could leave. I was pretty surprised when the change was €20 short. She explained that by the fact that she asked her assistant to give me change and he made a mistake. Really? Seriously? The night was ruined... Why didn't we go to a place across the canal? P.s. What a let down!! We read some reviews on TripAdvisor first and the few on YELP and decided to try this place, due to music offered and unique menu items. We arrived at 9pm Friday Sept 29 and became quickly disappointed as we asked to be seated, which resulted in hearing from several other tables how long they had been waiting either for their food or even to have orders taken! Came here for our last night in Venice, and we got exactly what we wanted, a super authentic Italian restaurant with AMAZING food. The menu is rather small, but each dish is BURSTING with flavor. We lucked out and were treated with live music; the woman sang in italian and french with their own instruments, pretty awesome! We ordered lobster risotto and a clam and pasta dish, WOW. I ordered the lamb, BEST LAMB EVER. According to our wonderful waitress, Juliet, the restaurant is pretty new to the Venice scene and let me tell you, they needed it! This place is probably the best restaurant in Venice (especially for the price) and you can't beat the atmosphere. My wife and I liked the vibe of the location. All in all, food was good, cheese was fresh and drinks were filled to the brim. However, service was really bad and they are understaffed. If they spent less time trying to recruit customers and more time on the customers actually dining they would be better off. They really need a dedicated host, busser, food runner and waiter.
