I am from India and moved to Canada some time ago. I really miss the food from back home. When I tried this restaurant, I felt so happy because the taste is just like India. The food has real flavour and proper spices, not bland or changed too much. It reminds me of the food we cook at home and the meals I used to have with my family. Their Chicken Tikka Masala was authentic tasting, whereas many places make it way too thick. The kabobs came out sizzling, and were cooked very well with the perfect complement of onions and bell peppers. Cleanliness of the restaurant was about standard, and they had a large collection of sweets to choose from. The owner was present and very helpful. I usually come here when shopping for Indian wedding outfits in Surrey and I've only gotten the halwa puri buffet that they have on weekends. The puri is fluffy yet crunchy on the outside. The buffet is an explosion of flavors with channa (chickpeas), aloo (potatoes), pickled vegetables, yogurt, onion and serrano peppers. I do not understand the reviews for this restaurant. Our food was infused with godly amounts of sugar and this place was mediocre at best. We ordered the tandoori fish, kabab masala, murgh cholay, butter chicken, samosa chaat, plain and garlic naan and one puri. The kababs in the kabab masala were cold almost like they were defrosted from being frozen, the butter chicken tasted mostly of ketchup, the only good things were the samosa chaat and murgh cholay, again the cholay were very sweet. I came here with a good friend for a weekday lunch. She said it's her family's favourite place to eat. We had a few kinds of bread (naan, poori, parantha), Chana masala, chilli paneer and the fish pakoras. My favourite were the pakoras- big chunks of white fish spiced and fried. All the dishes were flavourful and a good portion. It's a small place and apparently gets very busy on the weekend. Maybe the best meat dish I've had in Sur-Del, or second-best. Their poori are popular, and rightly. We decided to try some place other than our usual Aggarwal Sweets and Tandoori Flame for a change and as we got to the Payal Center from the US, we passed Lahori Sweets and upon seeing a sign that advertised Halwa Puri Sunday Buffet, decided to try out. After a 10 minute wait for a table we were seated and went for the buffet. Candidly I would rate the halwa puri (cholay, aloo subszi, sooji halwa) a 3. The halwa on its own would be rated 4. Still there a few places in Surrey that serve halwa puri although if you are in Surrey it is difficult to find cholay as good as those at Aggarwal Sweets. On the spur of the moment, I decided to order the beef kababs and naan and they turned out to be outstanding. The beef was minced, spiced perfectly and grilled in a tandoor to soft, succulent perfection. Would be better without the red coloring. They also have great beef nihari and goat paya (a broth like soup made with trotters and cooked overnight until the meat (cartilage) becomes so soft that it falls off the bone and floats separately in the gravy/broth. The bones are filled with delicious marrow. The wife loves paya and we got an order to take back with us. You eat paya by dipping naan into the broth and lifting it to your mouth once the naan is soaked just shy of falling apart. Then with your next piece of naan, you grab a bit or two of the floating meat and jelly like cartilage or grab a bone and pull the meat off it. Lastly you pick up a bone and suck the marrow out of it. I would rate the kababs and the paya 5 and 4.5 respectively. Of course you can find paya in other Pakistani or Indian Muslim restaurants and if you enjoyed reading my description, why not try some. In Hyderabad, my dad used to wake me up at 3 am and we would drive over to Nampally Station to a restaurant famous for its paya (I believe it was called Azizia but cannot be sure after all these years), get it just as they stated serving at 4 am and before they ran out. That took real dedication and it still goes on in India and Pakistan. read more

WORST EXPERIENCE IN A RESTAURANT Firstly, I would like to say my review is solely focused on the customer service. As the food is really good, we usually order take out. We decided to go and have our meal there and I will never go back. There are two young girls working there that are nothing short from disrespectful. At first one of them kept messing up our order and blaming it on us. Then after arguing with us she lied and told us they didn't have any salad simply out of malice. They then continued bringing the rest of our food and would not even face us or get close to our table. She would reach as much as she could and drop our plate on the table before she quickly turned and walked away. My husband was sitting closest to the counter and he heard the girls multiple times gossiping about us, we refused to eat our food and decided to pay and leave. We ended up asking the girls to call the manager or owner - He mentioned that it was not the first time he had received feedback about these girls bad customer service. It is really hard to find good food even in such a big city. My father went to the hostess and asked to speak with the owner/cook of the business.
