A lunch special for $7 in this day and age? Unbeatable! Don't let the front of this restaurant deter you. I thought it was closed when we pulled in but I'm glad I got out of the car and went up to tug on the door. I think I surprised the nice lady that works there because most people call their orders in as this is takeout only and no dine in but she was very nice and the other customers inside were super friendly too. I was a little worried when I saw all the one star reviews here, but if you actually read them, they're pretty silly. We took a chance and had a great, incredibly affordable, lunch from Lai Lai. They have a $7 lunch special. You get an entree, a side, and an egg roll. For $7. That's pretty much unheard of these days. Not only was the staff friendly, but the other customers as well. I meant an amazing local woman and chatted with her while the food was prepared. It didn't take long. The total came to $15 and change after tax for two meals, and my husband tried to give $20 and leave the change as a tip. The owner would not hear of it. She insisted he take the change and buy some gas or candy or something with it. That is the first time in my life I have ever had someone refuse a tip! I had a craving for noodles so I ordered Chow Mein to go. When I opened it at home, there were no noodles? Mostly just shreded cabbage. I drove back and showed the lady. She said that's how the make it. I said, but that's not Chow Mein. She said there are lots of different ways to make it. I asked her if she knows what Mein means in Chinese (It means noodles). The food is delicious and the menu is succinct but diverse enough for multiple tastes.

I really enjoy the food. She is only doing take out. Not going to reopen the dining from what she said our last conversation. It's easy to pick up and take home. I love that she put my sweet and sour sauce on the side so my sweet and sour pork wouldn't be soggy when I got home. You can phone in your order and have it waiting when you get there. There's something secret going on with the Veggie Delight because it is DARN GOOD! Lai Lai's is certainly above average Chinese food. Great value! You get lots of food for the price. We used to go here often because we enjoyed the buffet and having a beer. THOSE DAYS ARE GONE!! The food was horrible. Everything on the buffet was COLD, lots of it was hard and everything tasted the same... except the shrimp. The shrimp tasted old and mealy. They no longer sell alcohol. It was overpriced for the quality of the food and the rundown atmosphere. The waitress ignored us. We couldn't wait to get out of there and my hope now is that we don't get sick from it! You'll have a much better meal just about anywhere else. I wouldn't recommend it to my mother-in-law! If I could give it zero stars, I would. read more

While the outside looks pretty rundown (and the inside is a little outdated) the food here was good. I enjoyed a lunch buffet that was a bit overpriced at $8.99 and a $2.00 coke. A $12 lunch is a tad high for this venue, especially since the service was decent, but nothing to get to excited over. Price and service is why this isn't a 4 star place. I've had better buffets for a lot lower price with the drink included. Overall, it is Douglas and the only Chinese place around. I will return because like I said, the food wasn't half bad. I didn't order off of the menu so I can't judge that. A few improvements may be in order but overall its a nice little place that I will frequent when in the area and am craving chinese. read more

This is the best chinese restauraunt I've ever been to. You have the option of either ordering from the menu or getting the buffet. The woman who owns the place is very kind, and she never gets our orders wrong when we order off the menu. I gladly reccomend going here if you have the chance. read more

Solid neighborhood Chinese restaurant. Good thing too, as it's the only one in Douglas. Mostly your basic Chinese dishes, generally things seemed fresh. Service is accomodating and prompt. This place is amazing! Yes the Decore might be dated, but I go to places for the food! The food is absolutely amazing! I recommend the orange, sesame, or general tao chicken, the bbq sliced pork, egg rolls, and any of the fried rices. Please consider if you are in Douglas before going to a pricey out of town place. Came here because of the good reviews.....The buffet looked like it was a day old. The lady working here was rude and didn't provide ANY customer service whatsoever. She kept walking away from us and never came to check on us or give us the bill. When we put our cards to pay she stuck her hand out telling us to give it to her rude as ever though. I use to live in Douglas, AZ small little town, LAI LAI Chinese Restaurant is the best Chinese resturants in the area they have really good dishes such as the Lo Mein, Mongolian Beef, Egg Roll, Sesame Chicken, and many more. They have a good variety of lunch buffet items and at night they have order in dishes THEY DONT HAVE BUFFET AT NIGHT, but when u order the menu items they are priced at a reasonable price and they definitely give a very good quanty so its a very good deal. i really miss lai lai and AZ i havent found a chinese resturant like LAI LAI in LA yet, which is kinda sad since LA is such a big city ... oh one more thing, they sell alcohol so... :-) read more

This place was once a great place to go for Chinese food. Those days are gone. The $8.99 buffet is filled with stale food, hard white rice, and the containers with soup and sweet/sour sauce are filled, not replaced, when empty. The utensils in the buffet area all have stains. The fried chicken was hard. The breaded chicken was 80% breading. It had so much breading, some of it was still gooey inside. The iced tea had many particles floating in it. Came to Douglas from Tucson to visit a friend. Much to my amazement, I found Lai Lai. It was 8:10pm when I got there and even though they closed at 8:30, the owner Marie let my buddy and I still dine in. The food was amazing. Fresh vegetables, and the meat was delicious. After my meal Marie sat down and chatted with us for a good 45 minutes. Best chineese food I've had in the state. I highly recommend the mongolian beef and kung pow chicken. Steamed dumplings were great too. I will definatley be making special trips to Douglas for this great restaurant. read more

Well I didn't enjoy it personally as I am in college and I wasn't in the mood for 10cent ramen and it is Douglas so what other choice do I have the restaurant was a bit old and the buffet was a bit on the greasy side I don't think I'll go back as it is expensive and the owner is rather on the grouchy side and is a bit mean to the customers that whant to buy the food bit other than that 2 stars read more
