It's tucked away from the busier areas, surrounded by oak trees that provide plenty of shade, and there's almost always a nice breeze, which makes a huge difference on hot California afternoons. If you're looking for a quiet campsite to relax rather than a crowded area, this is a great choice. One of our favorite parts was the wildlife. We saw deer walking near the campsite every day. They were beautiful to watch... although they helped themselves to our peaches overnight! Fair enough--they seemed to enjoy them. There's also an easy path down to the water if you want to spend time by the lake, but for us the biggest attraction was simply the peaceful atmosphere, beautiful views, and the chance to disconnect for a couple of days. One area had trees but it didnt not give enough shade. Recommend you bring plenty of canopy, sun block, hats, and fans to keep cool. So many geese all day! The honking was gine during the day but they also made noise at night. Loved that the lake was just a few steps away. We brought floaties and snokels. There were little to catch and release. The kiddos enjoyed the fire a built out of rocks. The staff were helpful and really friendly. They checked up on us daily and picked up trash. You have to pay for parking I think it was $18. There are porta potties but no running later faucet.

This place has become…read moreoverwhelmed with rules and restrictions, and the rangers seem more focused on policing campers than creating a welcoming experience. I used to come here every year, but after this trip, we'll never be back. Don't try to sneak alcohol, they do check and they will walk around your campsite every 10 mins. The rangers constantly patrol campsites and frequently show up unannounced, making it hard to enjoy your stay. We were kicked out of our campsite because they found a beer on our table. (Yes, we were aware no alcohol, but cmon we're camping)! Then we were told to be out by 8:00 AM the next morning. We were already packed up and actively loading our vehicle when a ranger approached us at 8:01 AM and immediately accused us of trespassing. Instead of handling the situation professionally, he told us to "hurry up and pack your stuff, and get the fuck out" and stop "lollygagging." We were literally in the process of leaving. These american rangers were on a power trip, super entitled, thinking they're above the law and talking to us like we were animals, if not worse. So in other words, they must really love their jobs, or they're unhappy with their lives. The entire experience felt unnecessarily hostile and aggressive. Being nice will go a long way. We were super nice and respectful and didn't argue back. Wish we got the same energy back. There are plenty of other campgrounds where visitors are treated with respect.

SMUD still isn't allowing trailered boats to launch even though the rest of the state relaxed their launching regulations. SMUD even relaxed their mussel restrictions on the upper American, but not this stagnant pond. My son and I used to enjoy fishing here, but since closing the launches and forcing adults to wear life jackets on paddle boat watercraft or threatening to kick us off the water...your time could be spent better elsewhere that doesn't feel like the rest of California telling you what to do.

It's super convenient that it's the only cave tour in the area open every day of the week (minus holidays). Our guide was wonderfully friendly, knowledgeable, and patient with all our questions. The stairs throughout the cavern were easily manageable for all the kids--even our 5-year-old handled them with no problem! The tour wasn't crowded at all, which made the entire experience much more relaxed and enjoyable. **A quick tip for future visitors:** Tours start on the hour, so time your arrival for just before to avoid a long wait. It's first-come, first-served, and while there are benches to relax on, there isn't much to do on-site if you end up having to wait for the next slot. Overall, it was a perfect outing and a memorable experience for the whole family. Highly recommended!

Of course the first slot machine we went to hit and we started up $300, which we essentially gave back as we were chasing the big win. A guy next us said 'It only takes one spin to win' and we took that a little too literally lol. We played a variety of the machines, but the most luck we had was with the Top Dollar Machines, the others weren't lucky this time around. While we only left up $30, we spent 3 hours of fun just playing away. Something I haven't seen at any other casino was a free soda and non-alcoholic drink areas! It's Pepsi products though, so not the best, but at least it's free. I saw people ordering smoothies, which looked really good but we never stayed at a slot machine long enough to get one. We came on a Thursday, and it was bummer that there was only (1) blackjack table going with a $5 minimum. I walked by multiple times and there was never an open seat. Plenty of seats of pai gow or poker though. Maybe it was just the time of day, but definitely would love to try my hand at blackjack next time around.

From the linens to the décor, super luxurious accommodations set amongst acres of vineyards, each suite with it's own private deck overlooking Tuscany-style views in the heart of Amador wine country. Our host, Linda, made an incredible stay that much more homey. Each morning's breakfast was a feast, seated outside on the covered patio with stunning views. The meals were uber fresh (filling enough that we skipped lunch both days!). Every day around 5 you're treated to wine and cheese. Perfect location to wine taste on property or venture out to the growing number of top rated wineries. Walk amongst the vineyards or take out one the beach cruisers or trikes for a ride around. At night, the fire pits are a nice touch, or just lounge on you private deck for a sunset and a moonset. Looking forward to our return!

Our suite (one of five) was absolutely stunning. The Innkeeper (the first of three amazing Innkeepers) had the gas fireplace lit, and wonderful instrumental music playing, as she showed us our suite. The food was phenomenal: gourmet breakfasts, 5:00 wine and cheese, and homemade cookies in the evening. My favorite part was the patio with a fire pit overlooking the vineyard. All spots are on a steep incline. Majority of park occupied by full time campers living. A lot of marijuana smell and odd people coming out of campers at night. RV spots very narrow so no space to set up unless you do not mind picnic table over other rv spot sewer hose. No service at all so make sure you bring everything you need. The pool was over occupied which is probably due to complete lack of space or sitting for anyone. The putt putt golf was basically dirt. E-bikes very dangerous unless you are a pro because of the steep slopes. No paths for walking. I'd recommend trying anything else first. The drive is pretty long and winding so really not worth the drive.

Was so disappointed to be charged premium rates for cut rate accommodations we left our room 30 minutes later with the key on the empty desk in the lobby. Won't be back, won't recommend to any of my family or clients. Paid $300 for a room I didn't even spend an hour of my day in. Disaster !!!
