Great food, great atmosphere, and a damn fine chicken fried steak. Cute little town, as well. Worth the drive.

The ambiance inside is so nostalgic, and the food is amazing. It came out so hot and fresh. You also get huge portions. I had a lot of leftovers to bring home which made me happy. Update and rating adjustment…read more Friends from out of town wanted to eat here after seeing it. So I thought I would give it another try. Perhaps, I thought, they would do better. The bar was pretty low, after all. After sitting there a while, a young man came by and asked about what drinks we wanted. Five minutes later someone else came by and asked basically all the same things. Problems with the first one? This time I at least got my request in (never was asked the first time). Right after this, someone at the table asked for menus since we hadn't seen any yet. 15 minutes later someone came by with our drinks and asked for our order. Progress. A long wait later (26 minutes actually) the food started coming out. From walking in, to getting food was about 50 minutes. Credit given for the order all being correct. Ah, the food. I can only comment on what I and my wife got. She ordered the Philly cheese steak sandwich, gluten free. What an abomination. The bread was about 2 inches wide. And tough? It was so tough it was inedible. I tried some of the meat. I am at a loss to describe it. It seemed like it was pieces of cubed steak. And flavor? I personally do not like green peppers at all. But this sandwich's flavor wouldn't have been that objectionable as I could barely detect the green peppers. The whole thing was pretty flavorless. I ordered the Swiss mushroom burger. Can't go wrong with a simple burger. So I thought. Again, flavor issues. The bigger problem was the burger. Crunchy on the edges and definitely well-done throughout. No hint of pink. Or of any moisture. I couldn't finish it. Which was a first for me. And then the bill. My wife said that before she saw it she was going to tell me to leave no tip because of the quality of the food and the minimal service we received. But the bill had 18% "gratuity included". That was news to me. I had not noticed this mentioned anywhere. I thought about discussing it but at this point I just wanted to be done with the whole thing and leave. But the most insulting part of the bill was the line for "Additional Tip". What? No chance in hell. I would like the other tip back, please, not give more. So, because of all this, I have changed my rating. It was a 2, but now I am downgrading it to a 1. And I have learned my lesson. Nobody is going to talk me into going here again.

Started with the baked brie appetizer, which was lovely. I ordered the pork chop, which was massive, cooked perfectly (medium as it's ok to have a little pink in porkchops now) and accompaniments were flavorful. Both ordered pastas and it looked so tempting and delicious. Service is friendly. We couldnt decide on dessert so ordered the ice cream cake and apple cake/pie dessert and split. The ice cream cake is one of the best I've had. Layer of mint chocolate chip and chocolate chip, surrounded by a chocolate cookie crumble and cookie sprinkles on top. SO, SO, SO Good. The apple dessert was equally delicious and gave off Xmas / Holiday vibes. They do have espresso, though it seemed like it's not used much as the person had to check if we could order decaf cappuccinos. Those were alright and in the future, I may go without coffee or a decaf black instead. No tipping, which is the first time I've been a restaurant with this policy. It was pleasantly surprising and nice (on the bank account!)

I went with a friend for a birthday dinner on a Saturday night…read more First of all, the new decor is beautiful! It's classy without being pretentious. It's nice enough for a special occasion, but casual enough for family dining. The menu has been trimmed down, keeping some old favorites, and adding some new offerings. The staff was welcoming and very professional. The waiter (Joey) was attentive, yet not intrusive. The "Smoke on the Clearwater" cocktail presentation was stunning! I'm just sorry I didn't think to take a photo. It wasn't my standard drink, but I liked it very much. My friend ordered a custom cocktail and was very pleased with it. My friend ordered the Seared Sea Scallops served with Risotto, which she enjoyed very much. I ordered a Ribeye Steak. It was cooked exactly as I requested, but unfortunately, it was not tender, so I hardly ate any of it. After offering a substitute entree, (which I didn't accept because I was already pretty full), the waiter took it off the bill with his regrets. For dessert: The House Carrot Cake, and a Lemon Bar, both of which were beautifully presented with a sprinkling of gold foil. Generous portions and quite good. I hope the word gets around that this updated version of an old favorite is worth checking out. I am looking forward to my next visit!

Modern upscale renovations that highlight the bar area instead of the amazing view…read more The prices are extremely high, not just for this area but in general. I could forgive the high price if the food quality matched, but it doesn't. It's possible that the handheld items are better than the entrees, since customers seemed to be happy with their onion rings and sliders, but the entrees were disappointing. I tried the steaks, which were over cooked and lacked salt. The best thing on the plate was the potato cake, and for a $56 -$52 price range i was left disappointed. The server explained the steaks are sous vide and all come out the same temp. Not everyone likes the same temp, and at the prices listed you should have an option to choose. Hopefully the menu is worked out and food quality improved, but if I were to go again I think I would stick to the bar and grab a cocktail.

I suppose I would say it wasn't quite the genuine noods I am used to from my German grandma I was used to.
