This is specifically for the driving range, as a non-golfer. Not sure if this is how they all work, but I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to go practice! My husband took me, as someone who has never played golf before in my life, to hit balls. We didn't need to prebook anything, just showed up, walked over to the driving range, used the self-serve machine to get a couple buckets of balls, walked over to an open spot, and that was that! It was a pretty crowded day (based on how many cars were in the parking lot), but the driving range wasn't crowded at all, so I'm guessing it usually isn't full. Easy to park in a large lot, there's food and drink on site in the clubhouse if you want it, and conveniently located just outside of town on the SW side of Ann Arbor. I'll be back! read more

I have put off writing this review for too long. This course is great. Always pretty well kept and good layout, especially for the price. Greta driving range. The staff are 11/10 though. Great people and the food/drink at the restaurant is great. Matt (I think that's his name) was more than a 5 star restaurant. We spilled a drink and he and his team replaced it for free. All of this plus the incredible sunsets are unbeatable. read more

We had our fourth annual Open for our company Eagle Golf Productions at Lake Forest this Spring and were blown away by the staff, course, and everything else. We had a smaller outing, about 40 people, and LFGC treated us just as they would a huge outing - staff were extremely accommodating, welcoming, friendly, and helpful - the course was in great shape for early May - and they provided us with all of the little things that really add to an outing (player names on carts, goodie bags, range balls, etc). We at Eagle Golf actually filmed for LFGC back in 2021, so it's always a pleasure coming back to the course and seeing friendly faces as well :) read more

We held our child's high school graduation party at Lake Forest Golf Club and it was fantastic! Many compliments from our guests about the food and the venue! The newly-renovated space was just the right size for our party, and the ability to be both inside and on their recently renovated deck (complete with comfortable chairs and adjustable shades) made it an even more fun & flexible space! The staff was very attentive, friendly, and ensured everything ran smoothly! Planning the event was a breeze as well. Our Event Planner (Amy) was very friendly, knowledgeable, proactive, and fun to work with! She walked us through different options and helped us bounce ideas around and ultimately land on package that worked great for us! We had 28 golfers participate in an outing on Friday, August 9 in connection with the Pioneer and Huron 50th high school reunion. From start to finish all of the staff were so helpful and organized to get us on the 10th tee (back nine start that day) on time, even after putting up with all of us greeting each other after several years apart. I had not golfed here in years and was pleasantly surprised at all of the improvements, on the course, and especially the new deck, where several of us hung out afterwards, and where staff members were very accommodating by taking a group shot of the bunch of us. This is a great location for an outing in terms of the golf, price, and food and beverages. Veterans held an event there this past weekend. Amazing course, a hidden gem. Staff was very friendly. This is a good as any course in Ann Arbor, maybe better than UofM which we played Saturday. read more

The owner is rude. The course needs updating but the owner would rather spend the money creating a restaurant/event venue than fixing the cart paths, greens and tee boxes. I have witnessed the owner yell at staff and customers on multiple occasions in front of other guests. read more

Found the course very average. Some good - long par 5s. A few holes - I don't think ever dry out - muddy ! Staff I dealt with were fine. Greens were very strange, some in ok shape- many not. $6 extra charge for a small basket of practice balls.Don't think I will rush back here. read more

First, Jenny was very patient and highly accommodating. I have to admit, I changed my menu a couple of times but the final event was perfect. We celebrated two open houses... one for a high school grad and one for a PhD grad... both grads ( and guest) were pleased. Creating the menu and the order of events was so easy because of the attention to detail by Jenny, the chef and the event staff. I highly recommend lake forest for your next event. read more

The range is often pretty windy but they offer many flag targets. They rotate hitting stalls often and have many different angles to hit from. The range also includes a chipping and putting green with a full bunker. The course relies on wind and the par 5s are birdie-able. The course undulates with many blind shots over hills. It offers some challenge but a forgiving course. Unfortunately, you do wait for groups ahead of you. read more

Before the round we got drinks inside the clubhouse at the bar that was pretty nice. On a Sunday after 1 pm we paid 35 and it was well worth the price. The toughest course I've played this year. A lot of tight fairways with a lot of elevation changes and tough, sometimes blind, tee shots. The length of 6600 from the tips makes it even that much challenging. Greens were in great shape too. Lake Forest is the perfect course for those learning the game, or want to refine their skills in a low stakes environment. The course is well maintained, great practice area, and very player friendly. The greens are relatively flat with little to no flaking bunkers. Most of the course is wide open with only 3 or 4 holes requiring precise shooting. It makes for a very relaxing game with little drama. Best part, is the really cheap rates: $22 with a cart. While this is great for newbies, Lake forest is not the place to go for a challenge. Had to play from the back tees to add some distance to the course. I was slightly bored with the straight ahead driver/8 iron combo that I used on the majority of the holes. I strangely found myself complaining that a mistake didn't really penalize me at all. I'm not saying I want a course to destroy me, but I would like it to make me plan and think about what's next, and that my bad shots will have at least some consequence. Several of the holes were also slightly cramped. Tee boxes were either really close to the last green, or the general layout could easily put you in danger from a poor shot by someone on a different hole. The only other negative I found was the greens were incredibly soft. Approach shots just dug in and tore up the green with considerable divots. Sometimes it felt that even walking on the green could make little depressions. As a result, the greens aren't the most reliable. (That's the excuse I'm using for a few of those 3 puts.) Overall, the value for the price is fantastic, and I could see myself headed here again when I grow weary of being beaten by harder courses. read more

Oh Lake Forest, it is a little bit of love and hate for me. I enjoy the course itself and they have a nice practice area for chipping. The front 9 is open but not boring. It is a little on the longer side which is nice to walk and most holes have something to keep you interested even when you have played it a million times over. Watch out for the wind on the front nine it can be a struggle but the greens are not that challenging so even when you suck at putting as I do, you can still pull out a respectable round. Also watch out for the 7th hole bottle neck. What is it with that hole that makes a 15 minute wait at the tee everytime. The back 9 is tighter and takes you into the woods which creates a nice variety for a round of 18. What I do not like about Lake Forest is the fact that they oversold a bunch of cheap memberships and continue to overbook tee times that cause MAJOR wait times at almost every hole. They also go overboard on the rangers who come by in their cart and tell you to pick up your pace of play right after you have been sitting at the tee box for ten minutes waiting for the group (or groups) in front of you to finish. There is nothing worse then waiting for 10 minutes then being rushed to tee off. In general they take themselves a little too seriously for what the course has to offer but I still try to get over there a few times a year and it is usually worth it. read more

Pretty solid mix of holes that offer both traditional and some links style holes. The Par 5s are offer strong Birdie potential, while a couple of the Par 4s can be a stretch to reach. Staff is courteous, but not over the top. Biggest drawback at LFGC is the pace of play. Seems that every time I'm out there with my riding cart I think to myself I should have saved the money and walked it. But overall, this is a solid local course read more

We love having our annual holiday party at Lake Forest Golf Club. The staff is extremely helpful and accommodating throughout the planning and actual event. Plenty of space for our large group, excellent appetizers, and a great dance floor. We also love all the parking and the beautiful natural setting. read more

Are you kidding me? You call this a golf course? How could this course possibly have a current rating of 31/2 stars? This course is a major cow pasture!! Absolutely the worse conditioned course in this area, period. The tee boxes are absolutely horrible. You have weeds, muddy patches, or open dirt around the tee boxes and greens. it hasn't rained in over 5 days, but yet there's standing water or saturated fairways everywhere. This place has aged gas powered carts, and no course rangers that can monitor S-L-o-o-o-o-o-w play. The greens are inconsistent. Sand bunkers--what sand? It's basically clay pits with about 1/2 inche of commercial grade sand. Spend ($45) your weekend golfing somewhere else!!! 1-Star for the nice gate at the entrance. read more

We had a dinner to celebrate the Bnei Mitzvah of our twins. There were about 80 adults and 40 kids. The event was wonderful in all ways. The owners helped in all aspects of the planning so that the preparation was quite painless and stress free. The ambiance was very pleasant. the food was delicious, and the staff was friendly and polite. We got a lot of compliments from our friends and family about how enjoyable the affair was. read more

This course is a great challenge. It has some great holes and a few that are pretty benign. Greens are well maintained and were rolling quick and true. Back nine has more trees and reminds me of some up north courses. Great value and worth the trip. read more

Really enjoyed this course open front nine with quick greens and a fair course layout. Tighter back green with trees on either side which makes for the all around golf experience. Several blind tee shots on the back nine enjoyed great views atop the tee boxes as well. The clubhouse is well designed with a nice patio area to watch golfers come up 18 or have a nice meal. read more

They overbook wayyy too much. You can't ever go without having to wait for groups in front of you to finish. It is not golf if you have to wait. I paid for 18 holes and only played 9 because I was tired of waiting. read more

Played yesterday and pace of play 5 hours due to management not providing a ranger on the course for last nine holes of our play. There was an outing and like many outings middle age men getting sloppy drunk by the back nine. I called pro shop on 15th hole and they agreed pace was slow and they did not have staff to manage the problem. I was told the ranger was setting up for the dinner for the outing. When we got to hole #17 two foursomes had joined together. I called the pro shop as we were the second foursome waiting on the #18 tee box. They provided apologies but they ignored even though from the clubhouse they could see the two foursome coming up the #18 fairway. I play here 4 or 5 times a year and normally pace of play is better but very frustrating this time. Secondly for $41 the course was not in good playing shape. Greens are worn thin and bumpy. Like many public courses you can see not enough revenue to pay to have the golf course maintained. A VERY DISAPPOINTING way to spend my Saturday afternoon and I will do my best to avoid Lake Forest. read more
