Despite some of the businesses that have left here (like Starbucks!), this is still our usual spot to stop for gas and a quick bite while on the road. The KFC and Dunkin Donuts are our go-to eating choices, and the food has always been served hot and fast. While we've never eaten at the Sbarro, I have to say they were stocked up during our last visit, and everything looked amazing and delicious. The bathrooms have always been clean here, and the on-site Illinois Tollway customer service center extended their hours, making it a busy spot. Massage chairs, charging stations, seating overlooking the freeway (which can be surprisingly calming while you're eating), and the occasional pop-up shop make this a good pull off stop to refuel and stretch your legs. read more

One of the best Taco Bell food I've had in a long time! I didn't expect that at an oasis. My $3.59 cheesy gordita crunch was fresh and delicious. The $1.99 loaded beef griller was nice and hot. Seating area was clean. I don't think Lake Forest Mobil Oasis can decide whether it's a Lake, a Forest, or a Mobil Oasis. Can Oases even move? I mean I know the Gallagher brothers got around quite a bit but come on. This gas station is neither a Lake, nor a Forest, but you could describe it as an Oasis for gasoline. And it probably does have a lake of gasoline underground. I hung out here for quite a few hours, and even though it's a little chilly in the winter and late at night, it is still a safe and good place to hang out. Especially when it's deserted at 3 a.m. The wifi doesn't work very well but they have plenty of outlets and lots of different options for food and drink although most of them are corporate. But not all. It's a well-designed place too. All of the stuff is part of a bridge over the highway. And although this design can be very problematic it works in this case. The reason I give 4 stars is also because most big cities don't have these in and around the burbs - you have to go out to the country. I'm very happy to have places in the Chicago area (although not enough) where you can safely hang out at night, have a nap, and whatever, without having to revert to the dangers of a Walmart parking lot. This is a pretty cool food area that we went to as we were hungry. We were staying nearby and saw this on the map. The oasis definitely fits the name, as it's basically a little food hall with some other goods and services being sold. Very clean and convenient for a stop in for those on the road. I recall a Popeyes, Auntie Annie's, Taco Bell, Popcorn place, Sbarro, deli, small Chicago tourist shop with souvenirs, etc. It's on top of the interstate which lets you overlook the roadway when you're eating a bite. Well, the oasis is from a bygone era! Most of them across the state have been torn down. I believe this is the last one but I'm not exactly sure. Anyway it's on my route to visit my parents and I frequently stop for restroom and Starbucks coffee. However since the pandemic Starbucks closed and never reopened. There are a few souvenir shops in the oasis and a few places to eat which I have never tried. The only place that I go to for coffee now is McDonald's specially if I need some thing after a long drive. It fits my needs and it may also fit yours. There's also a gas station on both sides so if you need an emergency fill up this is a great place to stop read more

Lake Forest Oasis is a great asset to the Illinois roadway system. I find the oasis is a great place to stop to stretch the legs or/and take a restroom break. The oasis is about 45 minutes outside of the city. The oasis is very well planned out. There are restrooms on each side building with plenty of express/fast food restaurants (with some healthy choices) for a quick bite to eat. There are plenty of tables and seats for the diners. It is really cool to sit at the counter overlooking I-94 Highway. You will additional kiosks for tourist information or to buy lottery tickets or sun glasses. Overall, this oasis is very clean. Kudos to the maintenance staff. Whether you are leaving or entering Illinois, stop and rest for a few. read more

I grew up near the Ohio Turnpike, where each side of the toll road has its own travel plaza. Each travel plaza only had four or five food options, and it always seemed like the best food options were on the plaza on the opposite, inaccessible side. Not so with the travel plazas along the Florida Turnpike, on which I've spent more time as an adult (ATL to MIA, 11 hours one-way), and not so along 94, I learned this weekend! The joint travel plazas in Florida aren't much better than the ones in Ohio, as they still only have five or six places for food and usually only three of them are national franchises. And they always seem to be under construction. And really crowded. It's a mess. So imagine my surprise when I see that the Lake Forest Oasis has--gasp!--Taco Bell, KFC, McDonald's, Panda Express, Sbarro, Subway, Starbucks, and a gyro place, among others. SO MUCH DELICIOUSNESS to choose from in such a well-maintained space! The best part of this plaza, however, is being able to snag a high counter table against the glass walls of the bridge over the highway. I eat fast food rarely enough that noshing on Taco Bell while watching the cars zoom by underneath with my boyf (a McDonald's man) was a real treat. If you've got to stop along your journey, I recommend highly doing so here. read more

This is a really cool highway pit stop. Before moving to Illinois I had never seen them built like this it's super smart. It is built on an over pass of the highway with entrances on both sides so it's shared instead of having two separate buildings on each side of the highway. For sure it saves land space I don't understand why more places have not thought of this especially places that don't have land space like New York/ New Jersey. On to the inside space where there are tons of restaurants to choose from like McDonald's, Sbarro, Dairy Queen, Taco Bell, Panda Express, Starbucks, and many more. Some of the places have a drive thru so you don't have to go in if your in a rush. The place is very clean and well maintained but it could use an update. There is a gas station on both sides of the highway with a mini mart as well. Over all great pit/truck stop for all of your traveling needs and it's an easy on/ off of the highway. read more

I have used the Il oasis over the Hwy for most of my life and oh my how has it changed because I have not been in one for ever, I think Howard Johnson restaurants were the flavor when I last used one. I was on a trip to Il and I didn't get a road Coffey so when I saw a Dunkin Donuts sign I stopped in, I like a DD Coffey a couple times a year and I thought it would fit well with my trip to Il. This is well designed and not your fathers oasis anymore because it has appeal to all ages. There is a great variety of fast food restaurants that should satisfy most people, ATM, Best Buy vending machine, the mega candy coin station, massage chairs, VW bus claw machines, fuel station etc. The casual food court seating area over looking the highway was neat to sit at and was kind of cool, it's a glass bridge rest for the most part. If you have traveled across the US you know this is an Il thing that is kind of cool for travelers that you don't see anywhere else. This is definitely a traveler destination stop if only for the novelty but it works well for what it is. read more

A single expanse of commerce and consumables servicing the motoring public in both directions on the interstate, a scheme that allows for more variety in goods and services than could otherwise be had. The floor to ceiling windows overlooking the roadway provide an unique view with lunch: not quite the Signature Room but even that ain't what it used to be :-( Besides a wider spectrum of food stuff than the other plazas there's the usual games of skill or chance, vibro-lounges, toll transponders, knicks, knacks, souvenirs, a jetski-boat-motorcycle-timeshare promotion, clean and abundant "facilities", but the Deusenburgs are gone back to Volo. Hinsdale, Lincoln, Belvidere: stop in and enjoy these monuments to motoring while you can. Lost the Des Plaines Oasis in 2014, O'Hare in 2019, no telling what's next. read more

Most convenient Oasis! I don't know why there aren't more in existence! The Dunkin Donuts is a drive-thru which is convenient. The Starbucks always has a line about 10 people long. The Auntie Annie's is delicious. Recommend the mini hot dog bites. There is a popcorn place that has the strongest popcorn odor i have ever smelled in my life. Just from being inside for 10 minutes you will smell like popcorn the rest of the day! Meh. I've experienced better. I couldn't understand one of the ladies at the Subway stand. The Starbucks employees were nice and friendly. I was introduced to the frappachino by some of my friends. I got the Double Chocolaty Chip frappachino. The frappachino was really good! The flavor was great! It kind of tasted like an ice cream for adults! The Subway experience was not as good. I couldn't understand the lady who made my steak and cheese sandwich. The steak tasted like beef, and the cheese was ok. The steak also tasted a little dry. I wouldn't be back to Subway again. We all have to pee on the way to O'Hare sometimes and sometimes after that transaction is complete a person wants the last Diet Coke WITH ice that they are going to have for 2 weeks. I'm glad the Oasis exist-they should really have more of these for safety and convenience-the one on I-90 at O'Hare sets a presedent. The area of Lake Forest has a reputation for being a high end North suburb. So when I come to use their facilities, I'm always baffled by how dirty it is. For starters, let's talk about the ladies' room: it's sticky, water splashed all around the sink counter-no dry space for your belongings, no hooks or toilet paper, unflushed toilets and unuseable toilet seats. I've never had to open every stall door from the first available and make my way back until I find one suitable to use. Too often, I won't find one without pee on the seat,on the floor, useaable hooks to hold my coat and/or purse or both (because they're missing). By the time I find an acceptable stall, it turned out to be the one at the end aka wheelchair accessible. This is how I define the last stall to be the least aggravating: I had to grab toilet paper from a vacant stall. The tray that's suppose to hold my purse was slanted so my purse fell on the sticky floor a couple times before I started cursing it out. Even though the toilet seat was dry, I still wiped it down,made a paper crown and hovered over the seat. I don't tinkle and make a mess but if I ever, I assure you, I have the common decency to clean up for the next user. read more

I had always gawked at this strange structure while driving under it on the way out of Chicago. Finally I just needed gas and took a look inside. A living memorial to American road trip culture: all the fast food, candy, and cheap gifts you could ever want on the road. A bit crowded trying to get through the gas station and people were acting slightly strange, perhaps aggravated by the lines. Bathrooms feel prison-like (cages and arrows take you maze-like to the small stalls). Extra light brighting makes sure that your sleep cycle starts over again if you need to wake up. McDonald's employee scolded me for not knowing EXACTLY how many creamers I wanted in my coffee--apparently we are not trusted enough to do it ourselves. read more

On I-94 between Wisconsin and Chicago, this is your best bet for gasoline and rest rooms. In the Chicago North Suburbs and the north end of Chicago, not all exits have gasoline stations, and few of those have public restrooms, none has good gas prices. The Oasis gas station is prevented by law from gouging, but if you can plan it properly, get your gasoline in Wisconsin or Indiana to save quite a bit of money. The Oasis gas station restrooms are sometimes clean, more often out of order. The restrooms in the food mall area are more often clean, but this is a very high traffic tollway oasis, and a wide range of people, with a wide range of hygiene pass through here. There aren't really any acceptable food choices here, unhealthy fast food, staffed by obviously unhappy low morale workers, I've seen some go into and come out of the washrooms with their food service disposable gloves still on. If you're not passing through in the middle of the night, there's more interesting food choices off of Dempster, if it is in the middle of the night, get off at Touhy and just a little bit East you'll find New York Bagle and Bialy in Niles open all night. Be careful, the night workers aren't Jewish and will try to put mayo on your pastrami, but the food's still excellent, and mostly kosher. In the other direction there are 24 hour truck stop diners in South East Wisconsin (not exactly healthy food, but cleaner than here). read more

It is close to northern tourist attractions like Libertyville (Lamb's Farm/ Harley Davidson), Gurnee (Six Flags Great America/Gurnee Mills) and the border of Wisconsin. Lake Forest Oasis is a decent stopping point either on your way to or from Chicago. It's far enough removed from the city that you won't hit too much traffic (unless it's a beautiful summer day) and there's a one stop shop/mall inside should you need a fast food or coffee fix. I generally only stop here for gas (if I forgot to fill up in Milwaukee) on my way south so I can't speak to the restaurants or other shops. Clean restrooms, usually plenty of parking, decent gas prices. A-OK for a rest stop in my book. read more

Nicest oasis ever! It is somewhat reminiscent of walking through an airport terminal with light streaming through the windows, a lot of action going on inside and out, a variety of recognized food outlets, and kiosks selling various things you may (or may not) need. In addition to the Subway, Sbarros, Kronos Gyros, and other food joints, a middle eastern bakery is poised to open. As someone who follows a vegetarian diet, how I would have loved to order a falafel from the menu that could be seen! Add in clean restrooms and there you go - nicest oasis ever! read more

One note, the staff at the Gyros place there is very rude, when we stopped in to order they seemed very annoyed and irritated that we decided to waste their time by ordering food. If you can ignore your Gyro craving, I'd recommend visiting one of the other food vendors unless you're willing to put up with rolling eyes, exasperated breaths, and slow service from the guys that work here. read more
