I've heard of this place several times by a few people. But because of my work schedule, I'm never able to get there. Finally today I was able to. I just want to say, they are off of 620, so you think it would be easy to find. But it's a little bit of a maze. It's almost like you're going to the hotel that is there, but then swing around to the back of the hotel. Once you find it, you'll know the next time. It's a little confusing. The parking lot right in front is somewhat small. But there is some parking to the side of the building before you drive to the front of the building. They also have handicap parking spots available too. I did take a video of the parking lot. As you enter, to the left is women's clothing. On the right is beautiful dish ware sets. Towards the back they have hand bags, and kitchen ware. In the back right corner is books and in the middle on the right is kids clothing and men's. They do have a lot of jewelry in the middle, and that's where the cashiers are to check out customers. Places like this seem like they move inventory pretty quickly. So if you see something, buy it up. Might not be there the next time. I bet they get a lot of new inventory often. (Although I don't know for sure) Racks are pretty organized by size. So it makes it easy to go through. I did see some high end brand names. I'm glad I was able to check them out. I think it's geared towards older customers. Not exactly what I would be looking for. This place is pretty popular with folks, but if it's your first time coming here, you almost need GPS to find it. Unlike most thrift shops I've been to, this one is pretty upscale with lots of collectibles and designer goods. Only about half the store is given over to clothing on circular racks with lots of shoes to choose from. One reason this place is so popular is that their prices here are in line with Goodwill pricing and in some cases cheaper. You'll definitely find some collectibles here and their books, CDs and DVDs are surprisingly very cheap. You'll also find tons of jewelry and silverware. Definitely a good selection of kids toys, puzzles, games, and plush. They have four dressing rooms, but if you need to use the bathroom, you'll have to borrow the key. Definitely a great thrift shop to add to your go to list, just check out the pictures and see. read more

A longtime contributor to the Lake Travis community, I am so happy for Lake Travis Thrift Shop and their HUGE new space. There's definitely something for everyone. From new to gently used, the sale TVs, vacuums, clothes, dinnerware, and so much more. The store is well organized and the prices are fair. The staff who run the store are the kindest ever; always willing to help and even put you on a prayer list wishing you the best future. :) TIP: The large, stand alone store does not have an "entrance" per se. It can be a little difficult to find. I suggest using maps to Spring Hill Suites. The store is located just to the east of the hotel. Nice shop. More on the boutique thrift shop pricing, especially the kids clothing! $4 for Cat & Jack brand of shorts or shirt. Baby clothing $3^ . Baby & toddler clothing should be cheaper since it's so used and kids grow out of them pretty fast. Women/Men clothing- depending on the brand- you're going to pay the price for sure. Houseware items- are also priced high. And forget the prints/paintings- $17 for a print 8x10- yah nope The staff- eh. Not so friendly. I love thrifting and Lake Travis thrift shop is one of my favorite spots around austin. The staff is always super friendly. They have a good selection of items and especially clothing. This thrift shop would be better if they were open normal business hours. I pick my kids up at Lake Travis High School at 4:15, and it would be so convenient for me and other parents to stop there on the way to pick them up or dropping them off as they are right next door to the school l. Unfortunately, they don't open till 10 and close at 4 pm. In fact, they shut the doors at 3:45pm and won't let customers in or yell at you if you happen to slip in after that. I don't know too many stores that can refuse to let customers in before their official close time, but these people do. Understand they are volunteering (as they point out if you make that suggestion), but if a good portion of potential could be between 4-5, or even 4-4:30, why not further your mission and stay open a little longer. I know that the mission for this so called "thrift" store is to help the needy. HOWEVER, I am in need and when I go in there to shop they are way overpriced. How can a person who wants to buy a pair of pants pay $15 for them when that same pair is sold NEW at Kohl's? I personally think that they are overpriced. Most women employees are friendly and helpful. The " manager" is the exception and the one who doesn't have to follow the rules. All employees were wearing masks except she wore hers with only her mouth covered not her nose. I questioned how she was wearing her mask and she replied " Well , I have to breathe" . She was all over the store near other customers and would not wear her mask correctly. When I mentioned the issue to the 2 employees at the front counter and demonstrated how she is wearing her mask incorrectly the teenage employee started yelling at me and said she would call the police if I didn't pull up my mask over my nose. I was wearing a mask properly the time I was in the store and was only demonstrating the incorrect way to wear a mask and pointing to the manager as the one not following her own posted sign. read more

I've been coming to this thrift shop since I was a young girl probably around 4/5 years old. I remember all of the outfits, toys and hidden gems I would find here. Since, the recent open of their new location it seems like the quality/ quantity has dwindled. I am sure I'm not the only one that thinks that. I know they get donations regularly because of their presence over the years but I'm not seeing it at this new spot. I hope they can turn that around soon because I used to reel with excitement visiting the Lake Travis Thrift Shop. Now, I've been leaving empty handed each time I've stopped by. Also, the prices for some donated items are also the same as if you were to purchase at the store. I love this little gem! Always find atleast one thing when I go here. The items are usually more high end and better priced than goodwill. The jewelry selection is wonderful and I have found a few real Navajo pieces I adore. All the ladies who work there are friendly. I have shopped at this shop for years and followed it to each location, I love that I don't know what I will find on any given day......... BUT the "people now in control", are running this and pricing all the DONATED items like the store should be in the "DOMAIN" (high-end retail area) It is ridiculous. Stand in an isle and watch how many things are picked up and put right back down after looking at price tag. Don't get me wrong, the store does a lot of sales, just look at the reserved area marked "customer baskets" and/or "Volunteer Baskets", 75% of the baskets are the Volunteer's. Myself and another customer were interested in some chairs (2) that did not have a price. We were told by the "one" that marks furniture, that they would not be priced until next week.( This was on a Saturday and they are closed on Sunday and Monday) The chairs were taking up precious floor space and two individuals were interested in them . I would think that one of us would have probably bought them........ BUT NOOOOOO. they were not priced and would not be that day. (It was not late in the day either) I will continue to shop and treasure hunt, but to the ones that are pricing, please remember that these are donated items and that they have been used. I've been to a lot of thrift shops. And I have to say that Lake Travis Thrift Shop defeats the purpose of thrift shops, which is to sell used clothes for a definite cheaper price. I don't care if it's branded or anything, new clothes value decrease drastically once it is bought. Their "used clothes" is the same price as Marshall's new clothes, which are cuter too. So might as well save your money for another Thrift shop, or just go somewhere else. read more

There are several reasons I frequent this shop. Quality control is good and I am not wasting my time validating the condition of items. The store does not overpack shelves and racks so that I can easily cruise through and make fast decisions. The store is well maintained and clothing is sorted properly by type and by size. I can often find beautiful things to wear that I can afford to buy. I selected this store to donate family estate items to because the use of volunteer staff means the proceeds are passed on to 20 local crisis charities. I know that this is what my family member who passed would appreciate. read more

Beautiful new building with a much easier floor plan and donations are. The Ladies of Charity in Lake Travis, have been active in thrift store work since 1991. A 501C,3 charity itself they run the Thrift Shop and give profits and in kind donations to other Charities. The original beneficiary of proceeds was the Crisis Closet now Lake Travis Crisis Ministries. I'm a huge thrift shopper... I love the smell, the deals, the people, the entire experience. Most of my friends don't understand it, but those closest to me do. This thrift shop charges a LOT for items that I don't really want. Newer stuff, uninteresting items are commonplace here... not what I look for in a thrift shop. The good news is, they usually seem busy, and the proceeds go to the Lake Travis Community. I'm not sure which part of the community.... and as far as I know, it could just be a person that LIVES in the community... but whatever, the employees are friendly and seem to enjoy their jobs. If you shop here, you don't have to buy anything! Obviously Goodwill is a National (international maybe?) that supports folks that need a second shot at life for any number of reasons, and I like that. I'll go back here and see what they have from time to time, but like i said, things are too expensive, and the inventory isn't that interesting (for me). One positive, lots of baby/kid stuff!! Definitely not what you'd expect out of a thrift store. They have a lamp I've been interested in for about a week now. The lamp is priced really high at $500. About a week ago I went into the store and offered $200 for the lamp which I thought they would except being a charity thrift store, and since they probably just got that lamp donated for free, but boy was I wrong. The best they could do is 10% off which is literally nothing, $50 off of $500...( take 10% off just to add it back with the tax .) So then I asked the PAID manager of the place if they could do $250 or even a ridiculous $350 and they stopped responding and stopped caring so I guess it's a no?! For being a charity thrift store, the place only cares about getting the most money off of donated items. This place even checks eBay and other high priced websites to price their items for max profit. This place isn't just volunteers only anymore, the owners, managers, and employees probably all get payed now so it's not the best place to shop, you can just go online for the same prices! With over $3,000,000 supposedly being donated to local charity's I don't believe that someone high up isn't profiting big, especially when they won't budge over a lamp. Pretty sad that this thrift store is supposed to care about the community, but ever since they swapped to their new million dollar store, all they care about is money. I'd highly recommend not going to this place, your better off going to goodwill or any other thrift store. read more

The Lake Travis Thrift Shop was founded in 1991 by the Ladies of Charity Lake Travis as the organizations fundraiser. The first several years the association voted to give profits to the Lake Travis Crisis Ministries, the Volunteer Health Clinic and to Caritas Austin and a few other charities. The first location of the shop was on 620 in the Liberty Center but when they outgrew the space, a move was necessary. Under the guidance of manager Jayne Meyer and Ladies of Charity President Nancy Gilluly the shop was successfully moved to the current location. 23 years later 7 years in the current location the shop has benefitted from the generosity of the community in bringing their gently used items as donations. The shop has also undergone much growth and until recently was 100% volunteer. The volunteer managers of the past have been wonderful but it is now time to move forward and grow. It was decided by a discussion and vote of Ladies Of Charity Lake Travis to have a paid manager. Lake Travis Crisis ministries is still the primary recipient of profits, as is Spicewood Helping hands crisis ministry, Mobile Loaves and Fishes, Mary House Catholic Worker, St Louise House, the Volunteer Health clinic in Lakeway to name but a few who receive monthly gifts from the shops profits. Money is never given to individuals it is paid to 501c3 charities that serve the poor or disenfranchised, in the event an individual request is made for example money only goes to pay rent at a rental agency or to the power company if this happens to be the need. In the last 23 years money's given come to approx 2 million dollars. I will shop here any day compared to goodwills selection. I love the quality of the things here but, have had a few bad experiences. When I was expecting with my son they made me cry- they accused me of changing the tags because there was " No way that they priced this, for that much?!" I guess whoever priced the item did it cheaper than the lady at the register would have. She made a big deal about it and had me soo embarrassed that I left everything there. I also noticed that certain lady's treat me different depending on how I'm dressed or how ethnic I look that day. When I shop with my mother she's noticed it too! But, she's much lighter than I am- now that they have the Hispanic woman there, I've noticed a difference and don't feel so watched when I'm shopping. Over all I still love to come here when I drive though to visit my parents. read more

I love this store and really appreciate the volunteers!!! Took me a while to find a store where I can donate gently used items to, where it goes directly to helping local charities and those in dire need. So, I've been dropping off goods at Lake Travis Thrift Shop for years, and not at the store across the street. There's electricity, administrative expenses associated with any non-profit. To be "primarily" staffed by volunteers is still meaningful and worth of the cause. I wonder how many of us would donate hours of our own time, work for free, and to serve people in the spirit of charity and love? These ladies work hard, and always have a smile on their faces. Never had a bad experience going into the store, or dropping off goods! They even use donated bags, and if they don't accept a donated item, they'll redistribute it to an affiliated charity organization. The shop has gone downhill in the last two months. They hired a paid manager to run the shop part-time recently. Therefore, the LTTS IS NO LONGER A 100% VOLUNTEER operation as they advertise!!!!!! The goods have changed a lot. It reminds me of Goodwill, especially the smell. There are lots of things to buy because they no longer have the quality selection that a boutique would have. But if you're looking for lots of stuff and cheap, this is your place. The staff has changed and is no longer the friendly place to make new friends but a place where volunteers work their shift, keep to themselves and go home. In fact, I found out that volunteers are asked not to shop on the days they work. The air conditioning in the main shopping area is horrible. It's so hot and they put cheap fans on around the place that make so much noise that just moves hot air around. They really do not realize how uncomfortable it is to be in there with the Texas heat, that in turn, makes the smell worse. It's nice they have customer bathrooms but they are not maintained daily and can be gross, unlike Goodwill that schedules published daily cleanings. Maybe with the paid manager, the bathrooms will be better kept. Many times when I shop, there are crickets and spider webs on the floor and also in the dressing rooms. I hope that the new manager and these Catholic owned shop finds its way to a cleaner, cooler, and finer quality shop. In the meantime, just bring some hand sanitizer and enjoy the cheap goods. read more
