I continued south to the next exit and looped back, pulling into this northbound rest area only about 15 minutes later. Yes, it feels like about half of the rest areas along I-5 in NorCal are closed. I parked as far down the parking lot as I could as I wanted to be away from the truckers using engine brakes to decelerate into the lot. And so it was a mostly quiet night in my Sprinter van. You can't beat the spot for scenery and the (very low) arm of Lake Shasta to the rear. The rest area also has restrooms (hooray!) and vending machines. There is a sign indicating that parking is limited to 8 hours. I arrived at 6pm and departed at 5am (11 hours) and was not hassled by the CHP. I'm glad that California is again maintaining roadside rest stops the way we all desire a pit stop to be. California is a LARGE state! Some people are driving a LONG ways! Roadside rest stops provide a service to everyone--not just those who need to pee--by keeping our roads safe from sleepy drivers, clean from roadside poopers, and just a nice place to relax and view a small piece of this great and varied state. Some gems like this rest stop are innately endowed with the additional virtue of grand views! Clean bathrooms, family bathrooms, picnic tables dispersed throughout, informative displays, seemingly working payphone, garbage cans and recycle cans, AMAZING vistas of the mountains above and the canyon below! It is very well maintained from the grass, to the cleanliness of the restrooms, to the garbage being emptied on a regular basis. It feels safe to a woman traveling alone and I have even been known to rest my eyes here for a bit on long drives because it feels comfortable to do that here. There are lots of friendly seagulls that are obviously used to being fed by visitors and clean tables with some shade if you want to enjoy a bite to eat or just sit and relax outside a bit. I like the way the trucks are separate from the cars so you don't have to listen to the noise from the engines or deal with the smells. There is also a well maintained pet relief area here as well. If you need the restroom or just a respite, this is a good place.

Beds are ok but better than a lot of budget hotels. Of course the room is dated and can use upgrades but it does the job. Air conditioning works great. Room is clean. Property is cute and would be nice for a longer stay as well. Not much to each right on this area so make sure you have snacks and drinks is my only suggestion. I would definitely stay here again.

The decor is old and dingy and furniture is scratched like bought from a flea market. I booked a 2 day stay but left on the night I checked in itself. When I complained to the manager they told me that room #2 is old and dinghy but the pictures are from room#1 but if you look at several of the reviews even that one is bad. We had a good sized room, king size bed, table and chairs, fridge and microwave, sofa, TV, heat and A/C, sink separated from the bathroom, shower/tub and coffee maker. The hotel grounds are attractive and nicely maintained. It's in a safe neighborhood and there is a small to-go coffee shop across the street. A small, well stocked grocery store is just down the street. It's a husband and wife operation and we found them to be warm and friendly in any interaction. On our initial check in the wife not only quickly checked us in but clued us as to waterfalls to see, nearby restaurants she frequented and Dunsmuir 's wonderful tap water, from the same source that is bottled and sold elsewhere (the tap water is to die for). The husband was also quite helpful checking us in the second time, changing our room to the second floor, giving us some backstory on the hotel and directions to a nice Riverwalk. The price was quite reasonable and we had a pleasant stay both times. Highly recommended.

The mattress, the shower, the atmosphere…read more After a decent 4 hour drive we arrived here exhausted from the rain and ready to rest. upon opening the door I was hit with the smell of my long gone grandparents house, followed by a welcoming warmth. we proceeded to shower which was PERFECT it was soft but with a good amount of pressure to scrub the crud off you. Now the bed, how do you make something both perfectly soft but unimaginably firm? COMFORTABLE isn't even close but uugghh will be returning to sleep a weekend away.

Parking lot in a large L shape so it's easy to park in front of the room. Room itself was clean, comfortable, fully stocked and quiet. Check-in is easy. Pleasant stay | Clean…read more We booked the same day we needed a hotel. Booking was easy, check in was quick. The room was first floor near the stairs and smoking area outside, but that was not a problem at all. The room was clean, towels and bedding were clean and crisp. I liked the welcome note on the bed. That was really sweet of them! The room had a microwave and small fridge w/freezer. There was a small office desk with coffee and ice. Tv, a/c, heater unit. Two things to note: 1. If you use 3 ports to charge at the clock on the nightstand, it uses too much power and one of the electronics needs to be unplugged. There are wall outlets, so you'd need to use those. 2. We didn't have a shower curtain when we arrived. I thought it was one of those modern places where it's just open, but we definitely needed a shower curtain. I felt so bad showering and getting everything wet in the bathroom. Housekeeping was kind to answer quickly and gave us towels to clean up. The fan in the bathroom isn't that effective. I suspect they'll have a mold problem in the future. The light switch to the bathroom is on the outside, which I thought was odd. Other than that, we had a pleasant one night stay. We would stay here again!

Stayed here on a whim on a Thursday in February ~ I'm so glad I did…read more I am an In-Home Supportive Services Provider (IHSS) in California, USA. I was traveling with a client of mine who has very occasional seizures, and early on in our first morning here he had one while alone in the shower. Luckily, this hotel is sandwiched between lots of different hotels and restaurants, but more importantly, between the fabulous Shasta Regional Medical Center the proximate Redding Fire House. First Responders were on site in about ten minutes (which felt like an hour) and transpo went smoothly despite there being no elevator and us being on the second floor (the staircase has a landing and everything). Now, this is all well and good, and relatively standard if I may be so bold, but I'm here to say that the staff at the Americana went way above and beyond the call of duty. Housekeeping was in the next room when he collapsed. When I saw the severity of the situation I-in a relative panic, ran over to nearby staff to ask for help. This incredible woman, Darby, was the perfect person to help (second only to an actual first responder, RN or doctor). After calming the situation down with nothing but grace, she explained a little bit of her own history with seizures and what it meant to her to be able to help us in any way. Darby supported my client and I both physically and emotionally while he came out of his seizure and fell into a deep sleep, thank God, and she even stayed with me for a few minutes after he had been loaded into the ambulance. She and her boss, the manager Heather, and another lovely woman from the Americana whose name I never caught, were so supportive, kind and patient with me while I tried my best to help the PMs gather the information they needed about my client. I'd imagine some people had to check in or out a bit late because of us, sorry! But I couldn't be bothered by other guests after how helpful the staff was. PS . He was cared for in the nearby SRMC, a great hospital about two blocks away. He is now home and in stable condition. TL,DR Staff came in clutch for IHSS worker when senior client had a seizure in the shower - Housekeeper & management absolutely rock The local hospital is excellent!!
