I was sent off of interstate 5 onto this exit last week when the freeway closed both directions due to a blizzard. I called the Neu Lodge after midnight -- soaking wet from putting chains on, freezing, scared that I'd have to spend a very cold night in my car. "I'm sure you're getting a ton of calls since the freeway closed, but do you have any rooms?" "The one I have has two beds, but I will only charge you what one would have been." The owners could have tripled, quadrupled the price of the room. I was desperate IN A BLIZZARD WITH NO WAY TO ESCAPE. By the next morning there was no electricity anywhere in the town. These amazing people made coffee and soup for all of us that were stranded on their gas stove. Please, please plan to stay here any time you can. They deserve it!!! read more

Frankly, I was pleasantly surprised. We were driving northbound late at night looking for a place to crash. Everything seemed to be booked. We took our chances with this motel and stopped. The owner is a fellow former servicemember. He seemed kind and honorable. He even gave us a small but welcomed discount. Got to the room, nothing different from others. It looked clean, well-serviced with the needed supplies, and everything worked (internet, hot water, tv, etc). The bed was comfortable and i slept well. Check out was at 1030 so had to wake up a bit earlier, but definitely this motel was a very good value and we thank Jeff for his hospitality. It was 2 am when I came to this place,I knocked to the window in the office,a man manager came to me asked "what I want" and "how old are you" exactly! What I want at 2 am,try ty guess ?? So, I showed all the documents and told him that I need a room till the morning,I was driving from Seattle non stop,I was really tired. So,he looked on my documents my credit card and said "I can't help you" and CLOSED THE WINDOW !! Just imagine the situation: 2 in the morning,a girl alone in the woods ..! Very clean, comfortable bed, all amenities- frig, microwave and coffee maker; it met all my needs!

Really quaint little place, man who runs it was very nice. Some people may not like the older decor, but I really thought it was really cool. I liked the wood walls with the faux - burned design, it was pretty. Bath water ran a little rusty, but it's understandable after winter, happens at my house! Water was hot, can't complain lol The bed was warm and comfy and smelled clean. The option to have an organic coffee with organic non-gmo stevia was awesome (although I skipped out...I'm more of a tea person). There was also a TV set, a little older, but we didn't watch it. Mini fridge and microwave was an A+! WiFi was available and fast- and FREE; greatly appreciated! My only complaint was the walls were kinda thin and we could hear out neighbors check in pretty late and pretty loudly. But in hindsight, that's not too big of an issue. Lake Shasta Motel: We wanted a cozy simple place close to Lake Shasta and while I (thought) the price sounded a bit amazing.......When I called the owner made it sound like there were lots of restaurants and places close by. What a joke. We went for dinner are 7:00 & the closest restaurant (Allysons) was closing early. On a Friday night. We had been on the road from San Jose like 5 hours! So- I will just list "pros/"cons" of this lodge. I was going to give 2 stars, I mean - it was $70.00 on a Friday....but when I told the owner about the stains on the bed sheet - she insisted "But they ARE CLEAN". I really have no words except - to say that is really unsanitary and wonder why in the world they would think that is acceptable. Come on now. Please throw that gross stuff out. Ok: Pros: Cheap, Quiet, Across freeway from Lake Cons: See pictures - As mentioned, 1. stains on sheets, 2. only a thin blanket and super thin ugly acrylic bed spread. 3. No heater in room & we were cold! 4. Weather stripping on door and around door either ripped and/ or non- existent....adding to coldness! 5. Burnt out light bulb in a lamp 6. Refigetator didn't work well 7. They left us little T.P. to use! 8. The esthetics were pretty horrid - but there is a ridiculously goofy "welcome" painted onto one of the walls that does Not have gross (faux paint) wallpaper. 9. The ceiling in bathroom is frightening....looks like a ( work in progress) for sure. 10. And finally- the beloved hot water in the shower - you have to have a clever knowledge of turning the mixing valve- or you get 0 hot water.... Basically - besides the cute gazebo and pool..... Hands-down the best hotel we've ever stayed at, time and time again. The owners are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet, and truly go above and beyond to ensure their customers are taken care of. Rooms are clean and quiet, pool is great, and room for boats/trailers/etc as well. Less than 5 minutes driving from great food, a market, the lake itself, pretty much anything you need. Lifesavers! I can't recommend this place and its owners enough. I've just arrived at neu lodge and am cozy, comfy, and safe and watching dish tv, using wifi..... I found their number on yelp and called from a nearby rest stop. Major springtime allergies and a sinus infection led to a nasty case of vertigo and I had to pull off the road in Antlers, north of Redding. The owners (a very sweet married couple) came and picked me AND my car up at the rest stop, took me to get supplies, gave me Benadryl, set me up in a tidy, well appointed room and will even check on me later to make sure I'm OK. They're refusing to accept payment for the ride. And as an added bonus, they have two very cute pooches and a friendly kitty cat. read more

Nice little property with a gazebo. We enjoyed the local frog orchestra. Beds were very clean. TV had several channels. Room was cold, concrete block walls and tile floor. Tiny bathroom, nice hot water! No frills but $55 a night is hard to beat. Jeff, the manager/owner was very kind. read more

We travel A LOT. We spend way to much time driving up and down I-5. So, when we stumbled upon this gem of a place to a year or so ago, we now make it a point to stay here. It is a great break from staying at a chain motel. It is rustic, quiet, quaint, calming yet it has everything we need...and more. We had the strangest experience at this motel!! So much so that we now call it The Bates Motel!! (yes the Stephen Spielberg movie) We met up with family who live in Oregon here, as it was a great halfway point. We were all camping down the street at Antler's campground. But my 73 year old mother decided to get a hotel room close by so she didn't have to camp. But she could still see her kids, grandkids, and other family friends. It had been a year and a half..due to Covid restrictions. My mom had just arrived in town so the grand kids raced over to say hi and give her a big hug! And they were hoping to take a quick swim in the pool as it was scorching hot out. The yahoo at the front desk (I assume he is the owner?) got really nasty with us and told us he wont give us the key to the pool until everyone leaves!! If you pay for a room at a hotel that advertises a pool, you better be able to use it!! And who is to say when you pay for a room who can come by to say hello and who cant!!? I have never experienced this before in all my travel's. To top it off....he then proceeds to tell us we need to leave! What?? Am I in the twilight zone here? We were all completely perplexed at this point, and with nowhere for my mom to go! It completely ruined our family vacation!! When we checked out we decided we had to ask the man why he asked us to leave...as we were so shocked!! He proceeds to tell my mom that "she lied to him" and that more people were staying in the room than she had said. This absolutely was not true..we were all camping down the street! They just came to say hello to her! This guy has a screw loose indeed! DO NOT stay here!! And shame on them for treating my mother this way!! read more

The owners are extremely kind and hospitable. I came upon this Motel when the evacuations for the Carr Fire had barely just begun and typically they wouldn't allow cats, yet helped me out as I had my two kittens and had nowhere else to go. They were helpful in assisting me towards a local store and I was able to find a place just down the street that served wonderful food. Not only were they helpful with showing me around, they checked on me often to ensure I was alright and felt safe on the grounds. I noticed the gentleman would walk the dog for the room next to me as she was handicapped. I felt cared for and safe in such a time of panic and my gratitude is beyond what I expected. The room was very clean and though simply decorated, it was cozy and the temperatures were cool and comfortable. The pool was lovely and such a nice addition! The feeling of a vacation in the intense situation was a welcome thing and I thank them for being there and easy to find off of I-5. I am eternally grateful! read more

This place was cool, served its purpose! I would have gave it 5 stars but I found out after I paid that I was overcharged $5, I read a review back from April and the people only payed $55. I payed $6o before tax and I just went last week. Another reason they receive 4 stars is they have really tiny old tv's and remotes that aren't the best. But all in all the 2 people that work there are very kind and went out of their way to make sure we had enough bedding and blankets to be comfy. read more

We have stayed at this hotel three times now. The first time the rates were about $45.00 and the elderly man that owned it was friendly, seemed to like animals and welcoming. He showed us the entire facility along with his plans to remodel that his son was helping him with at the time. The hotel was old, with rooms that looked like they had last been remodeled in the 70's. They had a little odor of cigarette smoke, and it was obvious that pets had stayed, but we were there to go boating so most of this did not bother us. We visited again in 2012 and the old man indicated that he wanted to sell the place, he said it was too much for him to keep up and his son had no interest in helping him run it. This year we visited again, expecting to see the same nice old man. The rates had gone up to $75 and we were charged an additional $10 because we had pets. The old owner had passed away, and the son and his wife are now trying to buy the property. The son showed us a few rooms that he had added commercial carpet, and tile to, and some other rooms that were in the same condition as when we last stayed. We took one of the older rooms, which were scheduled to be remodeled next, as did my daughter and her fiancé, as we both had pets. We both paid the extra fee for pets that the son's wife explained was for cleaning in case the pets had an accident. We took the pets with us each day when we went out on our boat trips, and put them in the bathroom when we got dinner one day, and took them to dinner with us another day at an outside dining lodge. On the third day one of the dogs ran in the room after being taken for a walk and sniffed a dark spot that was on the carpet and proceeded to start to urinate. I picked up the pet to stop her and took her out. Then I quickly sought the cleaning staff to get supplies to clean the spot up. The cleaning staff was the son's wife, and she was cleaning urine from the floors of the remodeled room next door. I told her what had happened and asked for something to clean it with. She gave me vinegar and Odoban, and told me their steam cleaner was broken but that her husband could use the shampooer to clean the area afterwards. She said she was not upset as " it happens all the time and that is why we charge the $10 fee per night." She said, " What was upsetting was when other guests failed to disclose that they had pets, and there was no money for the additional cleaning". I then took the supplies and cleaned the area. The carpet was so dirty the towels turned a deep brown and red clay color. It appeared they had not been cleaned in some time. It seemed to help with the odor immediately but I recommended a product that my friends janitorial staff recommended to me for our rental property should the odor return. We then went out on the boat, and stayed one last night. We prepared to leave the following morning, and I cleaned the room and went to hand in the key. The Owners son was there waiting, his arms folded, and said to me sternly, " We appreciate your business but the odor from the pet is horrendous, and I think you should pay 50% of the cost to replace the carpet. Don't you agree". I told him that I had paid the additional fee for the pet as required and that I tried clean the carpet with the limited supplies that they had, and again recommended that they use a steam cleaner and some Liquid Alive. After all that is why we paid extra for having pets there. This room smelled of urine before we stayed, and there was only one accident, and it was quickly cleaned. If anything the cleaning activated previous urine stains on the 20-30 year old carpet. The room next door smelled like urine and poop, and the one my daughter stayed in smelled bad enough that she had commented on it to me several times. Neither the couple next door who, did not disclose their pets, that had new carpet in their rooms, nor my daughter, was asked to pay for new carpet. One can only assume we were asked to because he assumed we had some money because we had a boat. The hotel is old, the carpet is old, there are many repairs that need to be done, and it looks to have termites. There were bugs in the bathtub and spiders on the ceiling. The refrigerator did not work. The AC made a lot of noise and took a long time to cool things down. If you left it on to have a cool room to come back to the owner's son came in and shut it off and unplugged our I pads. The same family currently owns this property. The kind elderly gentleman has passed, and I am afraid the lack of water in the lake, and lack of full occupancy has driven the owners son to desperate measures to afford to continue to try to replace the twenty-year-old linens and flooring. In the end the owner made an unauthorized charge to my credit card to replace carpet that he had already planned on replacing 6 days after our departure. I have just filed a dispute with my bank and requested paperwork to file fraud charges read more

This place is great. It's not upscale, but it has everything. I found the proprietor to be very ... I can't think of the word, but I guess thorough and thoughtful is the best way to put it. Or conscientious. Every single detail, right down to why he was hoping not to have to punch in the numbers of my partner's demagnetized credit card was explained. We stayed once going north and again headed south down the 5 freeway. We had the same experience the second time. He offered a careful unsolicited explanation as to why he would not be able to accommodate a late check out on this one occasion, why that was abnormal - and this came up by way of explanation as to why we should park directly in front of our room even though we had randomly pulled into the unoccupied space next door. I'm guessing he is the same person who cleans, because the first room was absolutely spotless, and I felt very at ease about the bedding (something that normally skeeves me out) once I saw how clean the bathroom and surfaces of the furniture were. (Sometimes in old motels the furniture has a film from previous years when smokers were more common, but this place has nothing like that. It was super clean). The carpet in our second room was old but very clean considering, downright shampooed looking in fact. There was one gross little thing overlooked in the second room we rented, but you'd have to have an eagle eye to see it - or be situated from the perspective of a person on the toilet - just saying - I'm no eagle eye. And I cleaned it. It was a black speck of something, smushed bug maybe, that happened to be exactly where a pattern of tiny black marks from a replaced towel rack had been. So it was blind to anyone looking at it from dead on. And it's gone now. My boyfriend and I liked the place so much that we had planned to camp on the way south, but changed our minds because it was getting late, and we knew they would be able to offer us a late night check in, provided they had room. This may sound looney but we even had this whole hypothetical conversation about whether they would be as awesome to us if we were a gay couple - and we guessed that they would - even though the entire town is really super Christian - like wear it on your sleeve Christian, which always worries me I might encounter the I-don't-believe-in-your-right-to-etc-etc variety of Christian. The wireless was fine. I had no problems, unlike every other hotel I stayed at over several days. Also, the pool. I am one of those people who swims at every hotel or motel even if I have to get up early to do it. The caretaker/owner started the filter for me, no sweat and didn't make me feel like I was putting him out at all. The pool was really well maintained. So much so that only two bugs were in it and they were still alive, so I got to save two bumblebees and let them dry off together. Great way to start the day. When we checked our bank statement it came billed as a Motel 6, so if this is a franchise, or a family hotel that has been bought out, then let me just say that Motel 6 is lucky to have them represent. And it was cheap! Uhem, inexpensive, I mean. ~70 bucks including hotel tax. Not to mention, the town of Lakehead really charmed me even though it was a stop along the 5, and the folks at the local pub yelled 'Skynyrd' during karaoke. But Nue (Neu?) Lodge is on the quiet side of the freeway, so no revellers bothered us after we made last call for a burger (10pm). Okay, after reading what I wrote, I'm upgrading my review from four to five stars. It's not a five star hotel in the strictest sense, but it the top of it's class. I would totally stay there again. I would recommend it to friends. read more

Not a place I would return to. I'm guessing only some of the rooms have been redone, and ours wasn't. It had long, sculpted carpeting that looked pretty old, and the towel bar in the bathroom was pulled out of the wall. We requested the WiFi password, but our devices never even connected to it. STAY AWAY. We stopped here on the way down from Mt. Shasta. Something is apparently very wrong with the staff/management. It was reminiscent of a Hitchcock movie, very bizarre. My wife was told she should get out of town after she inquired whether they had microwaves in the rooms. A man about 50 years old, white, short hair, was openly hostile to my wife. He declared they had no rooms and told her she had better leave town. My wife asked asked him why. He said angrily, "you know why". We drive a new Benz Sprinter Van. My wife is white, 65 years old. Not a drug addict, has all her teeth, pleasingly plump. My wife was very confused, when she asked for clarification, he repeated that she knew why. He shut the office window in her face. There is another option in Lakeside, gorgeous cabins on the lake (no vacancies when we stopped by). I highly recommend you keep driving if Neu is the only place to stay. Seriously, don't ruin your trip or your day, protect your family and yourself. Stay Away. read more

Clean, quaint, friendly little lodge! Second time staying here and they don't mind a late check in. Directly off the 5 freeway so there is no long drive in. The owner is great and really personable. Comfy clean beds, coffee pot, fridge, microwave, wifi, satellite tv and a hot shower. There is a pool, a nice grassy area for kiddos and dogs to run around and bbq pit area. Great rates for so much!! Well let's start from the beginning , I arrived at the hotel the manager open the window without a shirt on, real professional like ,like I disturbed him and was rude because I wanted to use my boyfriends credit card , which I understood but then when I said that was the only way I could pay he changed his tune but was still extremely rude !! Then when he decided to do it I told him I had pets so I paid extra for the pet , then I arrived in my room and it was a dump to say the least, old furniture that looked like it was from the early 70s horrible mattress dirty bathroom. Then I leave and a few weeks later I notice they charged me a extra fee on my charge card , they said my "cats" tore up the drapes ??? Wtf ? I have two 8 pound Maltese , the drapes where 4' off the ground, then they said I had left cat litter in the room, in which I may have left a few tiny pieces, I had the litter box for my dogs since I was traveling up to Washington. So I call the dick manager today and he won't refund my card ! This place is a dump and their thieves who lie ! They must be needing money to remodel ! My advice is do not stay here. This motel is the definition of "quaint". If you like places with a community based vibe and older decor, then you would love this place. It's extremely small which I thought was great. The owners are very attentive and kind. I almost gave it less stars because when I got here my room had some ants in it. No big deal. But kind of gross. Then when I came back later the beds were made up, the towels had all been replaced, and the ants were gone completely. Whoever had cleaned the room must've seen the ants and took the time to get rid of them for us without us having to ask. I know that seems like a no-brainer, but to be attentive enough to the room to notice some tiny ants in different locations? And to take the time to get rid of each and every one? That's awesome. Although the place itself may not be a "fave star" resort, the service earned 5 stars in my book and that's what matters most!!! read more

Just stayed here for the night. We had to check in late, but that was no problem. Room was clean and warm and the shower was hot. TV was old and small but served it's purpose for 30 minutes until I fell asleep. The proprietors let us leave our truck and the truck of some friends in the parking lot for the weekend while we offroaded to Shasta and back. They were very friendly and their hotel, although older, has some character. if you are looking for a value, this isn't bad. read more

I stayed at this little motel in mid June, 2014. I checked in late as I was to tired to continue traveling. The customer service was great. The motel is not the Hyatt, but it was a great place near Shasta Lake. The room was very clean and comfortable. I would recommend this place to anyone. read more
