Horrible place to stay - Unsafe, Unprofessional, and False Advertising This was by far the worst vacation experience we've ever had. From the moment we checked in, it was clear this place is poorly managed, falsely advertised, and completely unsafe--especially for families with children. We booked the 6-8 person cabin and paid additional fees for extra guests, but the cabin barely accommodated four people. We were a group of seven: two couples, one 6-year-old, two toddlers, and a small dog. The cabin only had two full beds and a couch, making the sleeping arrangements completely unreasonable. Over the phone, they told us golf carts were available but failed to mention we needed to reserve them in advance. By the time we arrived, they were fully booked, and we were left walking everywhere with three small children. To make matters worse, the cabin itself was damaged with nails sticking out--extremely dangerous for kids. We checked in on July 3rd. No one explained any rules verbally--just handed us a folder and keys. Later that evening, my husband lit a single firework to celebrate the Fourth of July. A staff member, Eric, stormed over yelling and threatening to kick us out. When my husband and brother-in-law calmly apologized, Eric aggressively escalated the situation and tried to start a fight--seemingly provoked by the fact that my brother-in-law is Middle Eastern. It felt like a clear case of racism and intimidation. The next day, my sister's small dog slipped off the leash for less than a minute before being immediately retrieved. Again, a woman from the office came yelling and threatening to evict us. Then, while walking to the beach with our children, several drunk teenagers came speeding down the road in golf carts. They were driving recklessly and nearly ran over my son and me. Not only was there no supervision, but the staff did nothing to control the chaos. It was terrifying and completely unacceptable. After that, we stayed inside the cabin for the rest of our stay just to feel safe. This place is a complete disaster. It's unsafe, the staff is hostile and unprofessional, and the amenities are nothing like what's advertised. If you're thinking about staying here--especially with kids--do yourself a favor and find somewhere else. Not worth your time, money, or peace of mind. read more

So- lesson learned on this one... If I could give this place negative stars I would. This location has about 600 sites... the majority of them are "seasonal campers". But wait- they are not just seasonal- they are RV's with homemade porches attached to them. Don't get me wrong, some of them are decent- but by in large they're almost all super ghetto. There is an 11 pm quiet time that no one enforced. Our neighbors, both nights, we were there... stayed up playing music until well after midnight. This neighbor is one of the "seasonal campers"--- so clearly they do what ever they want. My wife and I decided to walk around and go to the main office- that was an experience. The shanty town neighborhoods in this campground remind me of redneck neighborhoods you'd see in a swampy bayou somewhere in the mosquito infested marshes of Louisiana. Anyway- we get to the main office, where the pool and general store is located. I decided to use the mens restroom- oh that was an adventure. That facility wreaked of month old urine, spider webs peppering every corner of the washroom and all of the webs were filled with bugs. One of the sinks was stained yellow (looked like caked on urine) with a heap of dead bugs in it. Wasps were patrolling the rust stained shower areas... it was actually kind of scary. The site my wife and I were assigned was not amazing. Our immediate neighbor had a 400 gallon (see the picture) above ground septic tank that we got to look at all day... everyday. The huge septic take was a sure draw for tens of thousands of gnats. I wish I would've taken more photos just to show all of you how disgusting and overpriced this dump really is. Do not go here! Management is the worst ever and they do nothing for the seasonals! On a whim they will kick you out as they did last year to over 20 seasonal campers that have been there for years! Some were handicapped and others with big and loving families that had done nothing wrong! The place is a dump! and is all about the money! Steer clear by all means!! Terrible terrible Terrible. After being a seasonal for over 38 years we fortunately left prior to management deciding without giving a reason to over 16 fellow seasonals that they will not renew the lease. This means that they must sell or remove their RV ,enclosed porches or deck a plus storage sheds. To make matter worse, this notice was given at or after the closing weekend. Future access to remove or show to sell will only be available 9-5 on workdays. Their deadline for removal or sale is April 1st. The corporate will not allow any conversation of why the decision was made. This is an complete opposite of what this campground was in the previous years. This is now the second time we have stayed at Lakeland campground with a large group and we sadly won't be returning. Our biggest complaint is that the property is old and poorly maintained. Tons of dead Ash trees all over which then overhang your camper and pose a safety concern. Many low lying trees unmaintained down narrow paths to scratch up your expensive camper is alway a treat. They advertise 50amp but most of the electric are 30 amp or broken. Water spouts are corroded and difficult to hook up to. The staff is rude and less than helpful. Primary run by a bunch of teenagers. Most people that stay here have permanent sites as well. If I were you, for the money I would consider going somewhere else. read more

Lakeland has all kinds of activities on the weekends at the pavillion. I was lucky enogh to be there on a weekend tha they had karaoke. Too much fun. This place becomes much more fun with a go-cart. read more

We were told that we had a site near the pool and everything else. Then as we left to go for the holiday weekend we were told that we were moved to a site about a mile away. No flush toilets and horrible conditions. We o pop paid. $90 a night for the worst condictions I have ever seen. The place is geared for permanent sites only. Our friends had beer stolen from their cooler at 2 a.m. Young kids drive around all night v fast and it is crazy. I have to say that our other friends in a site near the building had a totally different experience. They were invited to a potluck. I could not be paid enough to camp here again though. read more

as of today, Oct. 21, 2021 I would like anyone who is thinking of staying at this campground to think twice!!! New management this passed season has decided that caring about its people in the campground is not his forte. People were notified 4 days before closing for the season that they were not welcome back next year. From the elderly to the disabled. If you had a suggestion or complaint to the management that he doesn't like he kicked you out. No warnings, not even a phone call. Some have been coming here for over 30 years, some less. None who deserved to be treated this way. And when you try to get ahold of higher ups in management you are sent right back to the guy at Lakeland who then decided to retaliate against you. I can't believe this is how they treat people and think its ok. What can the people who are still they're expect to be treated? Id be scared to even whisper in this place. Management even decided it was appropriate to follow campers around with a drone on the seasonal recent poker run that is put on and run by the seasonal themselves. After they continuously asked them not to have the poker run. Then when a BIG check was giving to the cancer coalition, this same manager decided he would jump on board because its a positive! Day late bud! Spying by droan? are you comfortable with this? What type of place has this turned into??? I will not ever go back to this place, it doesn't care about its customers at all. Big corp big money. Campers are treated like trash! If they treat seasonal like this, how will they treat lower paying weekend customers? Think twice!!! read more

I booked this location using the 800 number. When I arrived I was accompanied by another camper who was confused. We were not given codes to enter the entry gate, then no welcome information, no site location, nothing. $80 for a wet, ZERO customer service location. Luckily a few of the very nice residents of the campground offered some guidance. I would not come back. I can't stress how bad this was. read more

Super friendly staff. They noticed we were lost when we arrived & located us to help out. The bathrooms were a downside as they weren't the best or very close to our camp site either. The door was actually missing on a stall. Their was also a lot of miscellaneous junk stuffed in one of the corners near us and in surrounding areas of the grounds. But, aside from those complaints we felt safe & considered. The site is gated. Everyone was really friendly. read more

We were optimistic when we saw Lakeland's website, but curious why there were so many vacant sites over a holiday weekend. Well, now we now, because it's waaaay oversold on the website. I've camped all over the world, and this campground is by far the worst maintained and monitored. It's full of dilapidated RVs and campers that are sunk into the ground and have "additions" built into them. The bath house and restrooms were completely trashed the entire time we were there. Of the five toilets in the men's room, only two were usable, the others were full of poop and trash. It was almost more tolerable to use the portajohns. The worst part of the weekend was the constant racing of golf carts throughout the campground, at all hours of the day and night. Everyone had jacked up carts with loud stereo systems blaring all the time, and no one ever did anything about it. The campground had people with carts that said patrol, but they never once enforce a single rule. The final thing I'm going to mention is the fact that they allowed people to book sites knowing that they were going to flood. Our site wasn't completely flooded at the beginning of our stay, but the site next to ours was, and the guest that arrived there to set up were beside themselves when the saw the entire site under water. The were from out of town and ended up leaving. I would think a campground owner or manager would know their land well enough and monitor the weather so they don't book high risk flood areas on weekends when it's going to storm. I know I've done a lot of complaining here, but I want everyone on here to know that even though the facilities and campground were substandard, my family and friends had a good time over our holiday weekend. Moral of story: Get outside and enjoy nature, but do thorough research first. read more

Do not camp here, ever. There isn't a single positive thing to say about this "campground". It is the dirtiest, most run down, unsafe place we have ever been camping. It is really a trashy seasonal trailer park with a random back corner of dead trees and swamp that they allow short term camping for RVs. It is overpriced, the "employees" are almost non-existent, there are no rules and many patrons are so wild that you are afraid of what trouble they will cause. I would give 0 stars if possible. I was verbally assaulted and threatened by the guy camped next to us on our first night just because I said his dog needs to be tied up per the rules and his dog was literally at our door and running around. Actually needed to call 911 after his endless chest pounding and screaming he's going to make my life hell, it's going to be a long weekend, just wait till you see what I'm going to do, that I don't know who I just pissed off, that I better be afraid. 3 Sheriffs came and basically did nothing and what did this campground do? First asked us if we would move our already set up camp. So they moved him. Literally so close we could talk loudly and hear each other if we wanted. And now today they had to yell a couple comments and continuously driving their golf cart by us. I also had emt come because I have a serious heart condition and this really got me scared and upset. If we couple find anywhere close that wasn't full we would be gone. It's clear our safety means nothing to this place. Not one employee has even come to our site or called to see if things are ok or to even see if I'm ok. If you have kids or family don't bring them here!! Also the lake water here is all mud and really nasty. Golf carts flying around constantly even till midnight. And sites are mounds of stone, wood chips and mud divots. read more

Visited Lakeland last week. Rented one of their cabins. Let me first start by saying don't waste your money. We rented for two nights. The grill was broken, the grill brush had no bristles on it. The screens were coming off the cabin. The bathroom was disgusting the tub had this scum ring around it, the toilet was gross. There were not enough cooking dishes, the hand soap was filled with water and had multiple colors of add in soap into it. One roll of scott towels, we had to set up our own beds with the sheets and blankets etc. And the towel situation well we had to go to the office and ask for more continuously. We decided that since there were so many of us we would just shower in the bath house. That was worse then the cabin. The shower had all mold growing in it the shower curtain filled with mold and I was just so grossed out. Went to the pool and there were not enough chairs there for everyone. We were confronted when we took a few chairs that had no towels or looked like they were taken by some woman in the pool. She kept on and on about how those were her chairs etc. yelling from the pool. People drunk and drinking in the pool area. Then in the cabin they leave an envelope for you to leave a tip for the housekeeper. SERIOSULY? You should be paying me to stay there. Super Disappointed. read more

I guess I should have reviewed this place more before booking to stay here. This "campground" is a large community of people with seasonal sites that have cabins/trailers on them. EVERYONE has a golf cart and all they do is ride around everywhere all day and night- and they are not quiet golf carts. Our campsite area was in a far back corner of the place (sites 412-413-414) and there was a speed bump right in front of it so all day and into the night (1-2 AM even) you heard every single one of them come to a stop before the speed bump then hit the gas to zoom off again- super loud and VERY annoying. The campsite itself was nice, nice woods behind it, and it was shaded throughout the day- but if you want to use the electric plug you need to either have your own adapter to convert it to regular 3 prong (it is set up for camper plugs) or you have to rent the plug adapters from the office for a $20-$40 deposit (you get your money back when you return it but be prepared to have to fork over the extra cash up front). There were some other people one night that were very loud- they started playing music at about midnight- it was so loud it sounded like a concert was going on, and they were all partying and yelling- we saw security driving around behind the loud area and kind of stalking out the situation- then they went over there and the music stopped for a minute or two then started back up again (this happened a few times) obviously the security could not do anything about it because they just kept it up till after 1:30am and even played the Cops theme song to pretty much say F-U to the security. If you maybe had a cabin/trailer this may not have been as bad since it would block out some sound, I could not believe how loud it was and that nothing was done about it. The map said there was a portable toilet a short distance away form our site, but it wasn't, so we had to find a different one in a completely different direction that wasn't listed on the map, otherwise you have to go all the way back up to the main building for a flushable toilet and showers. The showers were ok- the bathroom is very muggy with no ventilation, no hooks/shelf in the shower for you to put anything on (but there is a bench just outside of it), and no shelf/hooks by the sinks for you to put any of your stuff on to get ready (unless you want to put it on the wet floor or wet counter). The beach area is very nice- pretty nice sand and some big play things in the water for kids to play on- the water is super shallow (it's like only one foot deep even past the swimming area markers) but it's very brown water- my husband went fishing in a boat for a bit one morning and said it wasn't a very good fishing lake. The kids with us loved the pool the best- the pool was nice and warm, lots of chairs and loungers out there for everyone to use. There is a small playground and game room, and the store has some basic items you may need. There was a free corn roast the weekend we were there which was nice, and there were people over the weekend set up selling stuff by the store area and a little farmers stand also. There was even a retired Green Bay Packer there on Saturday that you could pay to get autographs/take pictures with - but NONE of these things were listed on the campsites website calendar at all so we were not prepared to either maybe bring something for the guy to sign (I think that would have been helpful to let people see all the events that would be going on BEFORE actually getting there and getting the flyer they provide at check-in). read more
