Had the chicken fried steak. Very delicious. The gravy is plentiful and seasoned really well like most would do at home. The breading is really good. The meat was tough in some spots but no fatty pieces so I know the steak was of higher quality. I usually don't order chicken fried steak because it is one of the simplest yet easy you screw up dishes. I typically prefer chicken fried chicken but this chicken fried steak was really good. Chicken fried steak was chewy and very greasy, mashed potatoes were cold, hour and a half before closing they ran out of tea, when we asked for more tea the lady rudely said we don't have any and did not offer anything else to my wife and I to drink also refused to make more tea. Salad was old and had brown spots on the lettuce. Poor service from our waitress she didn't check on us and when we went to place our order they were out of 5 or more items on the menu. She spent more time playing on her phone at the front of the place then she did paying attention to her customers. read more

That woman put chicken fried steak AND friend chicken on my plate lunch. You get BOTH. That was kind of nifty. It was a little pricey at $8.90 for a lunch special but you get a trip to the salad bar, two meats, two veggies, cornbread and dessert. The portions are not Black-eyed Pea sized but do you really need that much CFS on one plate? They were running low on chicken fried steak when I went up to get my plate. The lady behind the counter first told me that they ended the buffet at 3. I informed her I had purchase chicken friend steak and it was not 3 yet. She looked a little put out at first but said she would make me some. When she returned she was super nice and LOADED our plates up with cabbage, chili beans, mashed potatoes, chicken friend steak and chicken. We also got the last two peach cobbler cups. The food was okay. Actually the cabbage was outstanding. I know most people have complained about the service and I saw what they were talking about--but I'm charming. I do not usually get bad service. And while pea salad and cottage cheese with peaches are not my thing--my 99 year old Mama was in heaven with the salad bar--which included those and potato salad, pasta salad, mixed greens etc. This place is for the older folks who do not "get" Buc-ee's across the street. Found by accident while passing through town. Very unassuming from the outside. Clean throughout! Wife said her bathroom was the cleanest she'd seen in a LONG time, even from fancy chain restaurants. We were greeted promptly, and our waitress was typical southern lady....friendly, folksy, and welcoming. Felt like family. Food was great. Keep on driving down the street (or highway) and look elsewhere for your next meal. If I had ordered something different this review might be better, but when I order "Grilled Chicken" I expect to get maybe a chicken breast or thigh, not a couple of small patties of chopped/formed meat that came from who knows where. You could almost taste the preservatives. My beef with the Lakeside is not price but quality - and I would have paid a bit more for "real" food. Stopped in for a quick lunch. I had a bacon cheese burger (1/2#)on a cheddar jalapeño bun and my wife had a children's burger (1/4#) with bacon. Both were outstanding. Meat was moist and of good quality. Seasoned fries were also good. My only negative is they wrap the burgers in paper so the buns get soggy by the time they get to the table. read more

I take negative reviews of restaurants with a grain of salt and judge things for myself. So I gave Lakeside a try while driving through town. I ordered the 4 ounce chicken fried steak special with a baked potato which came with a trip to the salad bar. The food was good as expected and the price was good as well. The place was very clean; the atmosphere was rustic western, nicely decorated without being over done. The only drawback for me was the lingering smell of cigarette smoke from years past. It wasn't over powering but I can see why some might turn around and walk out. I will definitely eat here again the next time I pass through. read more

The waitress was so sweet and amazing. The burger was great, the corndog and grilled cheese were great too. The ribeye steak was awful! The meat was very poor quality and there was so much fat, you couldn't find any actual meat. They took it off but I hope they buy better quality since they charge $17 for it. read more

I only give this place 2 stars because of the fried okra. However, we called in an order and they were out of a lot of items which is understood, but the customer service was terrible. They seemed to have an attitude which isn't okay to reflect onto customers. We also asked for fried pickles and wasn't told they didn't have any till we picked up the order. Once we got home, the food was terrible besides the okra. The fries didn't taste fresh by any means and a lot of it was cold. read more

Really hesitant to try after reading reviews on yelp, but we wanted breakfast on our way home and it was 10:30am, clean place, great service, no issues at all. After we started eating decide to take picture to post my review to help other make a decision. Sure you can't please (all the other who left poor reviews) no matter what. We will be going back, they were setting up for buffet lunch @ 11:00am, all the fried chicken and CFS looked good. I want to try the lunch next time. read more

Don't eat here !! They serve spoiled meat !! My family and I stopped and ate here,(tried to eat here)My son and I ordered the Ribeyes, which is 18.50. They came with salad bar and a baked potato. First of all they had no lettuce or ranch left. We had to wait for that. We got our steaks and I could tell they didn't smell right.I ate 3 bites, and the first 2 had absolutely no flavor the 3rd bite I could tell it was spoiled. My son said his was spoiled also. I pulled the waitress aside and told her , so no one would hear us and she got the owner. The owner comes out and tells me that I'm wrong the steaks are not spoiled. In Summary: Cigarette smoke mixed with old grease odor and terrible service. I'm not a fan of giving only one star, but unfortunately this place earned it. I stopped in here during a road trip with my wife and kids. Upon entering you can smell the cigarette smoke. The restaurant seems to have built a separate "smoking area" that is walled off from the main dining area, but it doesn't have independent ventilation, so the smell and smoke eventually overpower the room and pollute the rest of the restaurant. We were promptly seated, asked for our drink order....and just as promptly forgotten. Seriously. There were few other tables taken when we arrived, but we witnessed several other parties walk in, get seated, actually get their drinks, then place their orders. Either locals get preferential treatment, or the staff is incompetent. After 20 minutes we left. I went to the cashier and told her we were leaving, my kids were starving and I was out of time to wait any longer. We only had 4 iced teas, and she actually made me pay for 2 of them. Save yourself the trouble. Grab a quick burger and get back on the road. read more

Do yourself a favor--Keep driving. Husband and I ordered the two meat BBQ plate. Wow. High school cafeteria mystery meat would have been better. It was obviously old meat they sliced and put on the griddle and doused down with KC Masterpiece. Don't even get me started on the inedible sausages. I'm afraid that's what made me sick. The mushy inside and casing...So nasty. The Jack Links I'd eaten earlier was better quality meat--and tastier. Sadly the waitress obviously knew--she took our plates full of meat barely touched and didn't ask why. Do yourself a favor and go across the road to Buccees and get yourself some beef jerky. Driving from Dallas to Houston, looked like a cute place to hv lunch. Food looked great. Boyfriend had the chicken fried steak (was chewy). I ordered the chicken fried "chicken" and immediately knew something was wrong, it looked like two large chicken Mc nuggets from mc Donald's. I cut into it and it was that really gross compressed mystery meat. I ate my baked potato & toast. Gravy was amazing but chicken was so bad it ruined my day. Please use real chicken breast!!!!!!!!!!! Saw this place when we were driving back to Houston and decided to stop by. The food was pretty good, they have a salad bar and that was good took. The waitress was a really nicer and friendly lady who made sure we were doing well and even offered to fix us coffees to go. Cool little place, they have a smokers room which was interesting since in Houston they don't allow smoking anywhere near the restaurant. I will be stopping here again and will eat another delicious chicken friend steak. read more

We had a horrible experience here. The staff were unfriendly. The food is overrated and very much not worth it. It was bland, no flavor at all. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Very delicious restaurant. However, I would not recommend eating from the buffet setup. I have always ordered either the CFS or catfish (5 piece) off of the menu, and I must admit that it has always been delicious. The salad bar is really good, but definitely make sure that your meal comes with it. The idea of a one-trip salad bar that costs $5.75 is ridiculous. Pulled off I45 for lunch, saw this place, decided to try it in lieu of fast food. The order arrived promptly. We were one of only 4 tables occupied. BLT sandwich was average. A turkey sandwich was of the pressed variety so below average. Plain potato chips came with both. Water to drink. Bill w tax was $16 + tip to the waitress who was pleasant.
