Best Ace in town. The place is ready for hoarders episode but the staff knows exactly where everything is located. All you have to do is walk in and ask for what you need and they'll take you to it. I bought a Weber grill and not only was it cheaper but they assembled it and delivered it for free. Sears on Lawrence wanted to charge me $200. Go to this Ace, it the best one downtown. read more

This is the best ace ever. I have been going to this store for 5 years now and can't say one bad thing about anyone at the Sheridan ACE. Everyone is very helpful no matter what the question is. Just feels like what you would want from a neighborhood hardware. Just rented a power washer for my decks this weekend and the rental price was fantastic and all the help and advice from the employees was very helpful. Love this place. A few months back I bought some paint from Home Depot because I was close to one at the time. When I came home with it my wife wasn't happy with me for buying Home Depot. We bought a dog leash from this Ace. There was a flashlight attached to the leash so there was some assembly required after opening the package. When we tried to put it together it was defective and the flashlight wouldn't stay together. We tried to take it back and they said they thought we had been using it and broke it ourselves. This was not true and I was offended that they didn't believe us. They refused to take back the defective product. Even if we did use it and it broke... IT'S A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT and they should have taken it back. read more

Every single time I go to this location I try to be patient and tolerant because of the treatment I get. Today, after a snowstorm I just had it! The woman who works at the front desk is always rude and seems profoundly put out by anyone who talks to her. And the man with the short beard who may be the manager or the owner is overtly annoyed that anyone asked him any questions at all. I purchased a large, expensive, item at the store just over a year ago. I worked with the store owner. I had a problem with the item a few weeks after it was installed. When the he didn't call me back with a contractor in my area to use (I only live 7 miles from the store), I used my own. A year later, I had the same problem and the store owner yelled at me (loudly) remembering every detail, but the fact that he never called me back. He yelled like a dysfunctional parent would yell at their child. He is just awful dealing with him. He still refuses to call when he states he will. The only good thing I can say is that is staff is helpful and kind. But that means nothing to me when the equipment sold to me that should last over 20 years, breaks down frequently and I get yelled at when I ask for help. Avoid this store like the plague! read more

For a small'ish hardware store located in a district crowded with businesses this one seems to have whatever it is you are looking for. The isles themselves seemed a little cramped and the layout is a little goofy since the inside of the store seems to be two former businesses spliced together but there again they stock just about everything. The customer service at this store is awesome. Every time you go in the staff is very eager to help out and know exactly what it is you are looking for and where in the store it's located. It's almost like you have a huge Home Depot type store but shrunk down to fit into a urban setting. read more

I live across the street from the Lakeview Ace. There's five of us in our house and we range from people who don't know how to screw in a lightbulb to being able to wire a room by oneself. And all of us have been nothing less than satisfied at Ace. The employees can take you to directly what you need, even if you're not exactly sure what it IS that you need. The guys are all very friendly and helpful and the mass disorganization actually adds to the quaint, man-dominated store. My only beef is that the paint is pretty pricey--my roommates and I went to Home Depot to save a lot of money on paint. But other than that, I trust these guys with all of my questions and needs about home repairs. read more

Awesome, re keying a garage door lock for $7 and 10 minutes? Yes, please. They are a great staff, can answer all your questions, and are not insanely priced for being one of the only local options in the area. Went in last night for paint for my new condo. Had no idea how much paint was needed per room, so I brought in dimensions of each room, explained the property and BAM! Paint! But the BEST part was the owner (I assume he is the owner), who said to me, "If your painter needs more paint tomorrow, just have him call me. We'll have it ready for him to pick up and you can just pay me on your way home from work." These guys are so knowledgable and so incredibly helpful. I've been going there for almost 8 years and I feel this review is WAY over due.... I can't say enough good things about my local,neighborhood hardware store. Sometimes I go there in a whim almost 100% positive they won't have what I need and Telling myself I should have went to a "big box" store. 99% of the time I am happily proven wrong and they have the potting mix, paint product, or that obscure closet door part or handle I needed. I'm a last minute kind of guy, and they are always helpful and courteous. Most of the staff has been there for years and they will even saw boards to meet my specifications if they can. A+ service. As a small business owner myself, it's these independent places that always give the best service and have the capacity to get to know their clients. We have bought a lot of paint from this location and they have always been more than helpful. Today however they went above and beyond helping us out with some paint matching issues. Trying to patch walls and touch up we were not getting an exact match even though it was the same Benjamin Moore color number and base. They took a lot of time trying to color match and even gave me a gallon at the cost of a quart because some colors don't scale well. The jury is still out if the patched spots will dry right, but either way the customer service was amazing!!! read more

Very helpful, friendly staff when I needed to have several keys made. Their light bulbs are more expensive than at Target or Walmart and when I picked up an adorable bottle opener, it was caked in dust. I still purchased it because it was so unique and cute, but they need to dust off their items once in awhile. I'm sure they have some Pledge laying around the store ;) read more

I was in LV Ace today. I needed a plumbing part. I brought pictures but the salesman was not sure of the size from the picture. He told me how to disconnect it and bring it in (easier than I thought it would be.) He fit the correct item and I fixed my problem myself instead of hiring a plumber. Perhaps it depends on the sales associates working... I had an absolutely horrible experience. A laughably horrid experience. "She's just a dumb girl", is the impression I got from the three men working. It seemed like I was the only one in the store. I stood unrecognized, for an awkward amount of time... Excuse me, can someone just help me with a simple request? Is this a dream? I asked valid, simple, easy to understand questions regarding enamel paint, and a superglue appropriate for ceramic repairs. One gentleman seemed to barely care, another texting on his sidekick completely not paying attention. Now, I am not usually a Negative Nancy, but this awful treatment really riled me up! I needed Enamel, I needed a superglue that lends itself well to ceramic repairs. I am not needy, I am not crazy, I am just a bit confused and I thought you guys were supposed to know all this? I just want to make sure I am picking up what I need... Really barely help on either, and it was like pulling teeth. I ended up just standing confused, and annoyed. I left the store and biked over to home depot. (found what I needed quickly) Sorry Ace, you didn't even deserve a few of my dollars for the glue. Really, laughably, the worst hardware store experience I have ever had. Such obviously awful service. Perhaps I was the unwitting participant of a prank show...?? I love this Ace Hardware! They seem to have every odd and end you ever could want or need and everyone is very helpful. They are not only helpful with in store questions but they also do things like check to make sure they have products in store for you when you call to see if they carry certain items. Have gotten extension cords and paint here in the past with friendly service, but this experience went above and beyond. I bought a new tv and my old mounting bracket didn't work with the new tv config. Bought an adapter plate on line and the holes weren't big enough for the bolts. Big box store said they couldn't help, but I took it in to Lakeview hardware and they said they could try to drill it out for me. It fit perfectly and only cost me the price of a drill bit! Needed Benjamin Moore paint as specified by my property managers and LAH was the closest outlet. Great selection of colors and good info on the differences between finishes. Paint guy seemed friendly on my first visit. Returned when I decided to paint a couple more rooms...and, for some reason, he seemed a bit surly. But, I wasn't there to strike up a friendship. They know what they're doing, so that's what matters. read more
