We are big believers of the montessori method and Storm is the real deal when it comes to Montessori. It's clear when you walk into the classroom but also in how she communicates with the kids. 2. Small class size - we really wanted a calm environment and find that our boys thrive in it. 3. Outside time - we love that they are in a yard surrounded by flowers/trees/nature. They get to participate in planting (which they love!). Storm has a very sweet/calm dog and we were nervous about it at first because both boys weren't comfortable with dogs. Now, they love to greet any dog that passes them! The exposure got them not only comfortable but actually interested in dogs. We also love that the arrangement of the backyard really inspires imaginative play (as opposed to purely physical activities). 4. We love getting all of their "work" on a weekly basis. We get folders of art/craft projects, writing projects, etc every single week. 5. Academically, our 4 yr old is starting to read and write (and most importantly, is genuinely interested in learning). 6. I love that they have responsibilities at school (helper jobs). Also impressive was the effort she puts in for all the kids there. I could see the advancement in my daughter pretty quickly, she started putting together words and soon was reading smaller books. The curriculum is not limited to reading and writing but covers diverse topics on science, math, geography, Spanish and so on and is taught in a way that's easily grasped by these young tots. Even during the pandemic, Shantha took every effort to keep the teaching moving along via online classes with a similar curriculum. I highly recommend this school.

The school is set in a lovely natural settings and the class sizes are small. Unfortunately, we experienced several major challenges this school year and have opted to transfer our daughter to a new school year because of them. Communication is poor. The Kirkland campus does not have a dedicated administrative assistant. All communication goes through the admin assistant at the Bellevue campus and then to the teachers at Kirkland. While there is a dedicated email address for each classroom, teachers do not check or reply to messages. And since there is no communication at pick up and drop off, there is no way to communicate with the teachers other than the two conferences throughout the school year. If an emergency arises, you will need to call the Bellevue campus and hope that someone answers the phone and is able to relay the message to the Kirkland campus. The school does not enforce its own sick policy. Students who showed up with snot streaming down their faces and persistent, barking coughs were allowed to remain in class. Our daughter missed more than six weeks of school because of this negligence. We had multiple conversations with the school director, and things would get better for a week and then return to their norm. In contrast, during our daughter's first year of preschool (at another school) she was sick once the entire year. We were not happy with some of the language our daughter picked up from the teachers. She began using the work "guys" frequently shortly after the beginning of the school year. She also learned a song with the lyrics "the little one stops to pray to heaven." Bullying on the playground was not address. There were two older boys in class who frequently put children 'in jail" and would not allow them to play on the playground (as reported by our child and several other parents). They also would not let the children play with certain toys on the playground. Bullying should never be tolerated and needs to be shut down asap. This year's class was incredibly young (many kids in diapers that could not talk, toddlers with snot streaming down their faces, etc.) and it made the school feel like a daycare. Our experience did not align with the price of tuition nor the experience we were sold. Bottom line, there are better Montessori options in the greater Kirkland area.

She has been to almost every classroom and has been taught by all the teachers and staff. You know the staff really cares about my daughter as they all know her by name. Although there was initially more turnover when she started, it seems to have become more steady and there is a longer-lasting relationship with the teachers. We didn't necessarily seek out the bilingual aspect of ECA when looking for a daycare, but I am thankful of the opportunity for my daughter to learn the Chinese language and culture even though we don't speak Mandarin at home. She surprises me with the amount she knows. Looking back, they were a bit more strict during the COVID years, but this is much appreciated as a parent. Although my daughter eventually did contract COVID, it was only at the peak of Omicron that it occurred. They had safety measures that straddled the line of being cautious but also fair to working families. The management has been communicative and transparent. When we have questions or concerns, they are always taken seriously and are open to feedback. We have been very happy with our experience here and don't hesitate to recommend other families to consider ECA.

We feel that ECA has done much more, along the lines of controlled learning. Not does he only have free play, but they really do believe that learning about the outside world is just as important. He's learned about continents, the 5 oceans, the solar system. And not only does he learn them in English, he's learned them in Mandarin as well. He has been given the ability to practice his cutting, pasting, writing letters, and number... but he's also been given the experience to learn how to make dumplings, and moon cake with his peers. The art that they do is also tied in to the subjects they are learning... which is how it should be done. They get to see, hear, and do.. which is essential in active learning. We don't speak mandarin at home. And being able to watch my child read mandarin words, sing mandarin songs, and reply to his teachers in mandarin... has been amazing. I can truly say that he speaks better mandarin than I can now. I've added a video to my review as a small sample of how much my son has learned reading Chinese at ECA. Also, once they are in pre-k, there are some days, where your kid gets to bring home, homework (not mandatory). Haha if that's your thing. My child loved it. And was proud to do the work "all by himself". I truly believe my little one has been able to grow a lot from ECA. And we're really happy about the staff, and the head school, Jenny. They have less turn over rates than our prior daycare, and the staff really seem to enjoy their time with the kids. The cameras are also always a nice touch to ease any parent's anxiety. The homemade meals have been a great way to introduce her to foods we might not make at home, and the staff has done a great job with providing alternative food options when needed to work around our daughter's allergies. Our daughter had a reaction at home to soy and it turned out to be an allergy to all legumes. While we were figuring this out the Discovery Center staff went above and beyond and had a list of safe foods and a list of foods she couldn't have that we would update to ensure they were avoiding all potential allergens as we figured this out. This made us feel safe sending her to school during a more uncertain time. They still go above and beyond to avoid her allergies and provide other food options. Our experience potty training our daughter before she was two years old would not have been possible without the help and support of the staff. They helped take her to the toilet often and continued to help potty train her while at school. There's a great balance of education, play, and outdoor time. We can tell she is learning a lot and we know she is having a ton of fun too. Our daughter will come home and suddenly start counting to numbers we haven't even tried to teach her or sing new songs! Our daughter is insanely shy around new people, she still is scared of some grandparents. But she is very comfortable with everyone at The Discovery Center, I couldn't imagine sending her somewhere else. The classroom and daycare size is a perfect middle ground where there are plenty of kids our daughter's age, but it still has a more intimate feel where everyone knows each other. The whole place has a great "family" vibe where all the parents will pitch in. There was a time when they were remodeling the outside play area and they asked if some parents could volunteer to help put together some structures on a Saturday. It felt like nearly every dad showed up to help get these structures built and the owners provided us all a home cooked lunch for coming together and helping out. Speaking of remodeling the outside, since we started at The Discovery Center the entire center has had so many improvements. From new play structures outside, to a new outdoor infant area, to a full remodel inside. It's been fun to see this place grow and improve over the year and a half we've been sending our daughter to school. The Discovery Center has been a great daycare for our daughter, has been flexible and helpful for our needs, and we will be bringing our newest daughter to the same school here soon!

We let them know and they immediately changed their minds about our enrollment. They said: "Either pay full price without the subsidy or we will not accept your kid". On their end, the money they receive is the same - the only issue is they had to report the paperwork and taxes related to it. School in their response claims my kids have never been part of the school: As mentioned in my original review, it is because they decided not to enroll our kids TWO WEEKS before we started. This is the whole point why we wrote the review.

Update: several inaccuracies in the response from the business owner: * My son has attended only one preschool prior to this one, not "many schools" as was claimed. * We met only once with Jayme and the lead teacher, at our request, not "many meetings" as stated. * My child does not have any special set of needs per his pediatrician and his new school. Labeling my child as such is both misleading and unhelpful. It would be more productive for the school to focus on improving classroom management and enhancing the skill set of the staff, rather than leaving the kids to be mishandled by the office staff. Original Comment: Most education systems are clueless when it comes to young children and this place is no exception. I am deeply disappointed with the treatment my child received at Lakeview School. As a parent, I expected a supportive environment for my preschooler, where fairness and respect are prioritized. Unfortunately, this has not been my experience. From day one, I explained that my son needs to build a connection with his caregivers. However, over the course of the 12 days he attended the school, I was called to pick him up more than five times due to issues with their approach to handling him. The explanation provided was that the staff were struggling to manage him with their Montessori methods. What was especially concerning was that these incidents always seemed to occur off-camera, and my son was left with office staff, who appeared to have little experience managing young children. We observed unsettling interactions with other children that further raised concerns. When we spoke with Jayme, the director of the program, she mentioned that the expectation was for a 3-year-old to listen to adults and strive to please them. That came out a little shocking to me as I do not raise my child to simply please authority figures, especially when those figures have not made any meaningful effort to build a relationship with him. What is most troubling is the lack of response when we tried to address these issues with management. The replies were dismissive, and there seemed to be little effort to make meaningful changes. It felt as though my child's well-being and emotional needs were not taken seriously, and I left the conversation feeling that the school had no intention of correcting these concerns. Preschool should be a place where young children feel valued, included, and supported in their growth. Unfortunately, I am left with the impression that Lakeview School is not committed to the fairness, inclusivity, and emotional support that every child deserves. I sincerely hope the school takes the necessary steps to address these critical issues so that no other child experiences the same treatment. For parents seeking a truly supportive and equitable learning environment for their preschoolers, I would recommend looking elsewhere until these matters are resolved. read more

Our family loves being a part of Lakeview Montessori. Our kids enjoy going to school every day and learning from their classmates and teachers. They do art, science, math, stories and much more. One project we especially love is the world maps learning and artwork. The school is quite a gem in the heart of Kirkland. We are grateful to send our kids there, where all of the faculty and staff know their names. It's a fantastic community of caregivers and other families. Highly recommend! read more

My elder girl is in class 105 with Ms. Fatima and Mr. Issac. Both of them are super caring and loving. Ms. Fatima conducts Motessori related research and keep parents and kids engaged and keep improving the education quality. It's a very nourishing and loving environment. Many of the faces I see there were there when my eldest first started 4 years ago. If I start naming names, it would be a huge list because everyone I have encountered at KCS have been amazing. When we walk in the hallway even teachers from other classes tend to know my kids names and give us a warm welcome as we pass by. I am always in such awe of the curriculum, and way they are always changing the layouts in the classrooms with exciting ways to play and bring alive learning experiences. Their in house kitchen makes such delicious homemade food for the kids that I wish I could eat there as well! They have such an impressive array of outdoor/playground areas for the kids to enjoy in rain or shine. I could not imagine a more well run daycare! They really know what they are doing!!! They were great at keeping up with latest Covid recommendations from the state for daycares and communicating the updates to everyone as clearly as possible. My friends with kids elsewhere would ask me about KCS Covid guidelines, and were always so impressed with how well KCS managed the craziness of the past couple years. I am sad that my eldest will be leaving KCS, but happy my youngest has another couple years. Each of her classes was a warm, nurturing environment that promoted learning and true connection between students and their teachers. The staff at KCS was also a pleasure to deal with throughout our time at the school. Finally, I have to commend KCS on their handling of the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. KCS was very conscientious in the application of health and safety precautions throughout this period, and the staff was very flexible as health guidelines continually changed. Overall, I couldn't recommend KCS more, and we will miss everyone there as our daughter moves on to first grade!

From the beginning, she was reluctant to go to school, though at her age (3 years old) she couldn't clearly express why. On the administrative side, I often found communication confusing and overly bureaucratic. The primary care director frequently stepped in when issues arose in the classroom, but her messages did not always align with the teachers', and she did not appear to have decision-making authority. When we finally decided to withdraw our daughter after several difficult months, the process was particularly challenging. We submitted our withdrawal notice one day later than the contract required (on a Sunday rather than Saturday). While I acknowledge that this was our oversight, the financial impact was in the thousands of dollars, and the school was unwilling to make any accommodation. Discussions with the primary director, assistant head, head of school, and eventually the owner all reinforced the sense that policies were rigid and prioritized the business side over the child's well-being or the family's situation. I later spoke with another parent who had a very similar experience regarding withdrawal fees, which made me realize this was not an isolated case. To be fair, there are dedicated teachers at Arbor, and I know some children do well there. However, if challenges arise, families should be prepared for limited flexibility and a process that may feel more focused on contractual obligations than collaborative problem-solving.

In some ways we wish we would have kept her in through the primary grade. Our experience was so positive. She needed extra care and nurturing in the infant room. She just wasn't the kind of baby you could easily hand off to others, but the teachers in the infant room held her constantly and really went out of their way to help her to settle in. They would even hold her while she slept which was amazing. She progressed through each class really well thanks to the care, kindness, expertise and nurturing of the teachers. What we really loved was that they could accommodate the individual needs of our child in a way that helped her to make friends, while growing her skills and confidence. The focus on, kindness, life-skills and academics is perfect. Now that we've moved on to a public school we truly see the value of the school. Our daughter is reading more than a grade level above her class and doing math that is a grade level ahead of her class. She is testing higher in nearly every academic area than her peers. We feel we owe much of this to the work of the countryside teachers who were so dedicated to her. We recommend Countryside to any friends looking for schools.

Our child enjoys the structured activities and has shown great progress in social skills and independence. The curriculum is well-rounded, focusing on both academic and personal growth. School facility is clean and well-organized, and the management is very professional, responsive and genuinely care about the well-being of the children. Also, we get detailed reports about our child's activities including photos, meals, nap times each day, which helps us to stay informed. As he gradually eased into the environment, thanks to his teachers' appreciation of cultural diversity, our boy can now confidently express his ideas in sentences in front of the class. We are especially thankful to Ms. Jerrica's dedication to creating fun and creative curriculum, and Mr. Jan's commitment to guiding them through big emotions. Our little one benefited a lot from his love for learning and the habit of meditation. Throughout the past two years, we also noticed his growing independence. Not just simply taking care of himself, but also his strong sense of being the true self and to advocate for what he believes in. He was never forced into any "correct" answers at school, but encouraged to explore and reason. The development of physical body is a natural process, however, that of the mind requires detailed planning, timely guidance and proactive alignment between school and family. We moved to Redmond from West Seattle where our son was doing fantastic in the previous daycare. In Redmond we tried a number of places (tours and placements) and were reluctant to keep moving him. With other daycare in Redmond he would come home overly energized, struggling to focus and difficult to put down for the night. After going to Mango Montessori, it was night and day difference in behavior. Our son become more composed. He picked up where he left from in West Seattle and started progressing in his learning. He is now far ahead of where we thought he would be for his age, reading full words, writing & counting to high numbers. And drop off and pick up is a breeze. For anyone looking to invest in your child's future in the right environment for a balanced curriculum with great teachers look no further then Mango Monteessori. Heck, I wish I could be a kid again just so that I could go to kindergarten there. So many experiments and crafts for the kids to do, culturally diverse, small (10 max, I think?), and a really pleasant and caring atmosphere. I am just a little worried that when our 4 year will go to public school, she'll be bored since she has already learned all the letters of the alphabet this year. But, they do so much more than academic basics: it's the whole Montessori curriculum. I do wish they would go outside a bit more to play, but we make up for that at home. I also like that they don't charge an arm and a leg unlike some other options in the area that we explored and didn't like as much.
