Stopped by for dinner while on vacation. It was an old restaurant next to a motel. Only the three of us were in the restaurant. Service was slow. Our appetizer sampler had small wings, somehow are mozz sticks came out barely warm so their was no cheese pull. The quesadillas were the best part of the app. My brother enjoyed his chicken quesadillas. Lots of pretty veggies colors with tender chicken. Hidden gem. Came here after a day at Lyme Rock. At first we drive past it because it seemed like a residential driveway we were driving up. I was pleasantly surprised with the atmosphere. The worst experience ever. I walked in with my husband. We were seated in the back, the hottest place in the restaurant and forgotten. We waited 25 minutes still no service, at all. I got up to see about placing our orders and saw behind the swinging kitchen doors behind the bar, a woman washing dishes. It appears only 2 women doing everything- cooking, washing, making drinks and NOT serving! There was only one other party of 5 in the otherwise empty restaurant, They appeared to be waiting forever for their orders. No small wonder the place was empty! I thought that I'd share my recent experience with this establishment in the hope that people take notice. I made dinner reservations for my family at Picante's in Lakeville on or about January 25. The reservations were confirmed, party of 6 for 6:15 on Feb. 3. At 11:22 a.m. on Feb. 3 I received a phone call from a gentleman at Picanti's (with whom I had spoken with just a week before ) saying that they would not be able to honor our reservation because they had booked a party of 45 for the same evening after I had made our reservation. I said, "how can that be, you took my reservation." He really didn't have a good answer to that question. I cannot comment on their food as I wasn't afforded the opportunity too and frankly, I'll never know. I wouldn't give Picanti's the time of day let alone one dime of my money. One star is the lowest score I could give. read more

SO incredibly good!!! The service was impeccable, it was nice and quiet. Margaritas were fabulous. I had the molcajete and I would drive the two hours just for that. Great place for a date or nice lunch with family. If you are going with small kids it is a little tight for a stroller but that would be my only downside. read more

We stopped in for an early Saturday lunch and ordered chilaquiles and guacamole, both of which were excellent. The salsa that came before the meal was nice and spicy. Took my brother and a friend to Picante's last night. They both really liked it very much. My third time there, and tried some new dishes. Was delighted with a few of the specialities from the Veracruz area of Mexico. And now they have a liquor license, so Mexican beers and Margaritas too. Open for lunch and dinner. Very excited to try this place and unfortunately a complete disappointment. The chips were nothing special and they give you the smallest salsa portions we have ever seen. We kept asking for more salsa and were charged extra for 4 of them. Never been charged for extra salsa at a Mexican restaurant, especially when portions are so small. My boyfriend ordered Mexican tortilla soup which looked and tasted like chicken noodle soup. The kitchen simply threw some chips into the soup. Not edible. My steak fajitas were chewy, dish came with bland white rice ( also never seen that at Mexican restaurant) and guacamole wasn't even included with the condiments which were extremely on the light side. Best part of the meal was the Caesar salad so that should give you a hint. Prices are a bit up there, on par for the area, but not worth it at all. read more

I ordered a burrito and enchilada. Both dishes came out with white sticky rice that one might expect at an asian establishment. The food was lukewarm and the pico de gallo salad contained 80% onions. This is literally the WORST Mexican food I have ever had in my life. I should have known better when I saw the enchiladas were described as "wet flour tortillas." What on earth?? It makes not sense. First of all, enchiladas are not made with flour tortillas, but then to describe them as "wet" seemed like the oddest description ever. But I was exhausted from a long hike, and the first place we stopped didn't have dine-in service. So we ended up here. Instead of pico de gallo they served us chopped up bits of bell pepper and onion huh?? The cheese was so hard I couldn't cut the enchilada. The beans were straight out of the can with no seasoning, and instead of the traditional spanish rice with garlic and tomato and onion, we got plain white rice. The salsa was also completely lacking in flavor and seemed watered down. To top it off, my boyfriend asked for nachos without meat and received nachos with also no cheese and the same weird bits of bell pepper sprinkled on top. I had to drive back to NYC literally starving, because I could not eat this awful crap. I am from Texas and learned to cook in a Mexican restaurant. I've eaten lots and lots of Mexican food over the years ranging from bad to fantastic, and this is the worst. Honestly, Panchos or Casa Olé is bettern or even Taco Bell. I'm not sure if we caught these people on the worst day ever or if people from Connecticut just have no idea what Mexican food is. We contacted Jose at Picantes Grill on July 7th, 2019. We asked if we could get a gift card/cert for our son who lives in the area and enjoys Picantes. Jose said yes, that is possible. Jose said he would run the credit card and send the cert to our son. A few days wait, and charges not showing up, we called and talked to Jose. He said the card was declined. The card was active and open to charges. We asked him to run it again. That was the last conversation that we had with Jose. Today is the 24th of July and still no word from him. Really was disappointed when we went a few months ago. I'm very familiar with excellent Mexican restaurants and this place couldn't measure up. Their appetizers weren't many to pick from and their was no complimentary chips and dip. The guacamole was horrible and we had to pay for it. Their entre menu was sparse and my burritos were so hard that I couldn't eat them. I complained and like most good restaurants would do,they still charged for the whole meal. The food was great but what they did at the end won't let me go back. We order a pitcher of mango margarita (priced at $35). When the bill came we saw that the margarita was charged at $50 when we asked why they say is because it was a flavored margarita and it had fruit in it. None of that was explained to us or anywhere in the menu. The waiter admitted that he forgot to tell us but he said that "people should know it's more money because it has fresh fruit".
