The food tasted incredible and the attention to detail was so good.. The servers were one tall one and one chubby short one and both were incredible with their service i wish i'd picked up their names because they were incredible. The ambiance they created in the restaurant was far above average and my group and I being from Florida found this as a very nice touch. This was by far one of the most delicious and best priced restaurants we've been to so far up north. Would 100% recommend to anyone in their right mind lol. read more

This place is easy to miss. The sign outside is hard to read and not very eye-catching. With the flags along the road, one might think it's a car dealer. Ah, but go when it's quiet and not only will the service be friendly and attentive, the food will sparkle taste buds and fill the belly. We went for dinner at around 6:30 and an early crowd was on its way out. Our timing was just right. Our drinks and food came promptly. But shortly after our entrees arrived, 3 different families came in one after another in parties of 8, 4, and 4, and they all ordered alcohol, i think margaritas because the guy who had taken our order was no sooner behind the bar filling out drink orders. There was only one other server. But the drinks... Yes to the margarita. Delicious and fresh, not with artificial sour mix but with real citrus. I had lemonade, which was fresh and not too sweet. And the food... yum. The salsa has a little smokiness (chipotle?) which made the chips go down way too fast. I ordered a vegetarian molcajete, a hot mortar bowl filled with rice, beans, and vegetables. I took the leftovers home and had the rest for lunch the next day. It was too big for me to finish at dinner after having the best tostones I think I've ever had at a restaurant. The tostones were perfectly crunchy on the outside and served over a pad of guacamole. The only thing i didn't like about the food were the flour tortillas, which i mostly didn't eat. I react to xanthan gum and guar gum and hence aware when foods contain them. These tortillas were too stretchy to not have one of these additives. But it's hard to get flour tortillas these days without it. (They do exist!) We will definitely be back. I hope they figure out the serving staff situation soon. I would be perfectly happy eating there if we had to order at the counter. read more

I've come back a little over a year later to update my review. After hearing about the change in menu and wanting to give it another shot I'm pleasantly surprised. Good Mexican in Canaan? Who would've thought? We are huge fans of birria and it seems hard to find around this area, but Picante's has it! It even comes with the consommé! The birria quesadilla and birria burrito is now our top choice on their menu, along with the fresh guacamole. We also love the spicy (salsa??) they add with every meal also, definitely gives a nice kick when you need it! Everyone is so nice when you call and they always get our order right which is great because it's not always the cheapest option, but it's definitely worth the price. We will definitely be coming around more often! read more

We love this restaurant. It's a hidden gem - the food is fresh and delicious. The flavors and spices in each dish are fantastic. Drinks are made to order with fresh ingredients. The staff is knowledgeable and accommodating. We especially love the molcajete entrees for a perfectly spiced, unusual entree. We can't understand why this place isn't packed everyday. read more

Regular customer for a few months now. Today placed a large bday lunch order and very dissatisfied and disappointed and they refused to make it right. Normally we order tacos (which always come with rice and beans) suddenly missing from order. I ordered Fish Ceviche's which was old slimey nowhere's near fresh and so slimey it made me gag. Reported the incident to Slice and restaurant refused any credit apology or explanation. We will never go back. What a disgrace. $76 for slimey fish , cold tacos and in lncomplete order. Disgusting! After I called the old owner and sister restaurant not until I continued to complain was I refunded as well as leaving a review here. You could have avoided this if you would have made it right on the first concern. Things have changed and that's apparent. Sadly the order was cold not fresh and changed. Appreciate the refund it's well deserved. I hope you treat regular customers better in the future. I hung up because the man on the phone was rude to me ! This restaurant was one of the best I visited my family and I enjoyed the stay the food was one of the best i ever tried.

Went for the first time in the Canaan location...we had some great margaritas while we're waiting for some takeout food. Biria Tacos were really good, so was the dipping sauce and the rice. As were the flautas and tostadas. The margarita pizza was good too. One bite everyone knows the rules!! Will be back!! read more

Buyer beware! Make sure you ask your waiter if the prices on the menu are correct because they certainly weren't when I visited. I ordered a dish of 5 or so smallish shrimp with rice and some sort of black bean puree on the side which was listed on the menu for $21. (I also ordered one basic tequila on the rocks (nothing special) and I was charged $15 for this!) When I got the check I was floored. When I went to pay I asked the waiter about it and his reply was "oh, yeah, we''re working with a new menu now". Wished he had let me in on that before I ordered. And really, $15 for bar tequila??? It is a holiday. Very busy , understandable. What is NOT is being deliberately ignored from multiple staff members when only to pick up my preorder of one single drink placed an half hour prior. Told to sit down when I was notified my order was ready and watched people come in and eat and leave while more came and left for over 20 minutes my order of one single drink was ready. Size was not correct , drink was made poorly and the price was expensive. When notified the staff of my concerns he said " it's all good" multiple times while pushing the cup towards me . Very inconsiderate and unprofessional. A long term local customer since the opening in this area and unfortunate will never be coming back. It's a shame because there food is AMAZING and best Mexican restaurant locally. Very discriminatory behavior as well. read more

The molcajete bowl with chicken is fantastic and unique. It has grilled cactus, which was pleasantly satisfying. Guacamole is delicious. Great margaritas. Really nice waitstaff. This is not a typical Mexican restaurant: food seems more authentic and less greasy, and doesn't come out of the kitchen in a miraculous 3 minutes. Bonus: the portions are huge. read more

So I'm not sure where that one star review came from. Last night my husband and I decided to take a chance on this restaurant in spite of it. We're very glad that we did! The service and the food have apparently improved greatly! Our server was polite, courteous, and very friendly. We were seated immediately, ordered, and our food came out shortly there after. It was delicious! I had the chorizo chimichanga and my husband had steak enchiladas. We were very happy with everything at this restaurant, and will definitely be back. The only reason we did not give this restaurant five stars is because our table was a bit wobbly, and when we walked in it was filled with smoke due to someone ordering a fajita recently.
