BEWARE!!!! DO NOT TRUST LAKEWAY TEXACO! I brought my Acura TLX for a diagnosis that included dashboard warning lights followed by my car dying completely. I initially took my car to Christian Bros, then to Lakeway Texaco for a 2nd opinion. I asked if they were able to fix Acura's and I was told yes. I was very specific to point out I needed a full diagnosis so I could decide what I could afford, and what could wait. After a week of waiting, and several calls for an update, I finally speak to the head mechanic. Cody explains his full diagnosis. I agree to the quote electronically. Next day they tell me there's a new diagnosis and my quote just went up another $2,000. A week later I get a call from Cody stating the newest part he ordered was faulty, so he needs to have it replaced by the manufacturer. He mentioned something about hoping to not have to cut a bunch of wires to figure out the issue. Fast forward 24 days later, my car is ready for pick up. I pay at the front desk, go to my car, start it and all the dash lights are still on. I show Cody and end up leaving without my car. A week later I get a text stating they cannot repair because it requires specialized equipment and suggests I go to the dealership. My husband calls to speak to Cody about the misdiagnosis. Cody was rude, loud, and unprofessional. We asked to speak to the owner. We never get a call back. My car is still malfunctioning nearly $5,000 later, and now I need to get lawyers involved for a resolution. Please save yourself money and stress and find a more reputable auto repair shop. read more

Mostly positive few weeks ago, I brought my vehicle in for an inspection only it was my first time there as we just moved to the area. They had the car for about an hour, and when it was ready, they brought the wrong car out. They discovered their mistake and then just let me drive away and said there would be no charge for the inspection. That's the good news. The better news is I went in after having received an estimate for over $4000 worth of repairs from a Volkswagen dealership. Texaco said they could do two out of the five services so I gave them the keys and they started the work this morning. I got a call soon after they started and said that the coolant system did not need to be changed. It was perfectly fine and didn't need to be done. I got the brakes done (for half the cost of the dealer) and was very happy that they also discovered that my oil level was low. The Newberry family would be disappointed their business is being ran with poor customer service. I've been a regular customer but in my experiences repetitively I've found the guy they've chosen to represent their facility "Brandon" will be the reason your experience is poor. I simply won't give them any business outside of purchasing gas. They even mess up state inspections. I'm not just complaining but after 6-7 visits with multiple vehicles and every time they come up with excuses. Never any accountability esp with Brandon. If he's still their I'd avoid any mechanical work no matter how convenient. Save your $ and avoid Lakeway Texaco for anything but gas and a car wash. read more

We are thankful the Newberry family is in Lakeway. We have experienced them in Austin in Tarrytown and are very excited they are out this way. I bought a new Jeep and purchased new wheels and tires for that Jeep, (4, plus a spare) I brought all 5 tires in a truck to the Lakeway Texaco to see if they could pull my existing wheels and tires off and put the new ones on. I was visiting my business partners in Lakeway and my rental car started showing low pressure on a tire. I tried filling air but didn't hold. Saw this Texaco on my way to a meeting and figured I'd fill a little more air. Asked one of the guys how to work the air machine and he said he'd help. He checked the tire and found a large nail in it. For $15 he patched it good as new, in 5 minutes. No appointment. so i called to find out if they did state inspections and they did. i further enquired if there was a long wait. i was told that they don't take appts and that its first come first serve. while that was good to know, it appeared the guy had no idea what i just asked him. Not Classic Car or Muscle Car Experts. I'm going to try my best to give a critical review without being vitriolic. However, my experience left me scratching my head about Lakeway Texaco considering all the positive reviews and recommendations online. Despite the considerable number of classic cars and muscle cars you see around their shop and in the graveyard out back from time to time, my experience proved that these guys are not experts in this area. I brought in a 1979 Trans Am Firebird for a general check over that had recently been overhauled a few years ago with a new Chevy 383 500HP engine, Edelbrock intake, Holley 870cfm carburetor and many other performance racing parts under the hood. From the moment I stepped in the door that morning, Cody seemed to have a chip on his shoulder toward me. He said I had "completely ruined the value of that Trans Am" by having those kind of components in there. First of all, I didn't buy the damn thing as investment; I bought it as a cruiser and something I could have a little fun in. Second, the car is not a trailer queen or show car meant to sit in my garage for weekend roadshows. It's a friggin' hot rod and will be driven as such. Third, everyone knows that if you're looking for an investment, you go for the ones with all original parts. I don't need your negative attitude or opinion about my Bird. I thought about not leaving the car that morning due to the bad vibe I was already getting, but I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt since it was 7:30am and maybe he hadn't had his coffee yet. He and another mechanic actually pointed the finger at each other on who's responsibility it would be to do the check over. Didn't seem like they wanted my business. But, I walked home 3 miles within Lakeway anyway. No ride service offered to a Lakeway resident. Five hours later I received a phone call from Cody with a long laundry list of services that would need to be performed. I do understand that this was going to be a project car for me when I bought it. The most pressing issue at the moment was a ticking/puffing sound coming from the top portion of the engine. I couldn't pinpoint it myself as a lifter, stuck valve, etc., so, this is why I wanted them to have a look. He told me it would take many hours to figure out the problem, and that they would probably have to start breaking down the engine to find it. The summary sheet of the check over even says, "The popping noise will need multiple hours to diagnose. We do know that it is an internal problem." (It actually turned out to be a bad header gasket. External problem. Easy fix.) On top of all this, they recommended overhauling the entire brake system. So, I asked him how long this would all take if I let them start performing the services. His answer: "Weeks." "Weeks!?," I said. "So, I'll just have to leave the car there for a month or more until you guys can fix these things?" "Basically. We can't be messing around with these project cars when we have other people's daily drivers to attend to every day." So, let me get this straight. If I'm the same kind of paying customer as someone else, I'll have to wait weeks until you guys can complete this kind of work just because it is not my daily driver? Interesting. This explains why you guys have the same classic cars sitting outside around your shop for weeks and months at a time. I wish you would have just recommended that I go somewhere else from the start. You didn't want my business. I did go somewhere else. I went to Vineyard Bay Automotive about 4 miles up the road on 620. They work on muscle cars and they know what they're doing. Turns out, that ticking/puffing noise was only a bad header gasket. Exhaust was leaking out of the header creating that noise. No engine tear down needed to diagnose the problem. Just an expert mechanic with a good attitude who wants your business and who can diagnose it correctly the first time. Brake overhaul needed at Lakeway Texaco? Only if I'm going for a complete restoration. What did I need right now just to make it a good cruiser again? Just a new master cylinder. How long will it take Vineyard Bay Auto to do this? Just 2 business days. We'll have the parts needed by the end of the day and have your car ready at the end of the next business day. Awesome! Back to cruising within a couple of days. Oh, and the owner of Vineyard Bay Automotive even personally drove me home that morning back into Lakeway. Now, that's sweet service. read more

I have had both our families cars serviced at this location and have found their work offers excellent price/value. The service is first class and the expertise is obvious. They have a very experienced staff including Ross, Veldon, Cody and Chris who is their lead master technician. I have just driven away from them for the last time after 9 years of business between the Lakeway and Tarrytown locations. In the past 9 months, they have had my car in 3 times to fix the same fault, replacing the same failing electric water pump on each occasion, with the explanation that the batch of replacement parts must've been bad. That's all well and may be true, but I have been carless a lot recnetly due to this. Last week, a fourth coolant leak occurred, which they claim was unrelated. Yet they have just provided me with a totally undrivable car, having a serious misfire that needs attention by a specialist. This problem was NOT present when I left them my car 3 days ago with a simple coolant leak! Communication by these guys is poor and the person in charge of my car was suspiciously not available when i went to collect it. Pathetic. read more

Really; I've gotten to know these guys since about 1995, when Neal ( the dad of the owner; Ross) ran Tarrytown Texaco. Cody, Veldon, Ross ( etc) are straight shooters, AND have a bunch of folks who can actually draw from a wealth of knowledge due to years of being "into" working on cars in their spare time, and therefore are good at problem solving. Love this place! I feel that anytime I take my car in for an oil change or to the mechanic for any other service, I am always being sold on something. That is not the case here. Lakeway Texaco has excellent customer service and I wouldn't take my car anywhere else! I've brought my car by twice in the past couple weeks the first time due to a nail in my tire and they quickly patched it without charging me anything and today I brought my car in thinking I had an issue with my 02 sensor and they were quick to run the diagnostic and tell me it wasn't an issue anymore and get my inspection done all within a couple of hours. read more

I had a GREAT customer service experience today at Lakeway Texaco! Got a flat tire turning onto Lohman's Spur and hobbled down to the Texaco. They immediately leapt into action and determined that my tire was beyond repair, and a few minutes later showed me that my spare was shot as well. I told 'em I had a good spare at home -- and they offered to drive me there and pick it up! We did this and retuned to the station where they quickly put the good spare on. And for all this they only wanted to charge me $35! [I gave 'em a bit more.] The wonderful folks at Lakeway Texaco turned what was going to be a bad afternoon into an uplifting experience.
