I've been going to Sun Auto in Lakeway since I first started driving, and I honestly can't recommend them enough. They've always been incredibly accommodating, quick, and genuinely friendly. What stands out most is their honesty. They take the time to explain what's going on, never push unnecessary work, and always try to find the most affordable option. That kind of transparency is rare, especially in auto repair. They're also impressively fast. They've consistently done their best to get me in the same day, and if a part is needed, they're upfront about timing. More often than not, they're able to get parts within minutes, which is amazing and keeps things moving quickly. Another thing I really appreciate is the environment. Their lobby is always clean and comfortable, something that definitely isn't a given at most shops. I've trusted them through every stage of my life, from my early cars to more advanced vehicles, even classics--and now I trust them completely with our family vehicle. That says everything. If you go, ask for James or Philip. They are both incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and just great people to work with. At one point, I moved about 45 minutes away and still made the drive back here after a couple of bad experiences elsewhere. That alone should tell you how good they are. Brought my 2020 ford f150 in as the AC stopped working. I was charged for diagnostic (like all shops) But I received a quote for almost $5500 for a complete AC system overhaul. new condensor, compressor, core, and the expensive r-1234 fluid. I was shocked. i took the truck back, popped the hood and immediately found 5 chewed up wires right next to the battery.. not hidden or tucked away.. legitimately right next to the battery, 3-4 inches away from the positive terminal. I cut them back with a pocket knife, did a quick repair to see if it was the cause of my AC.. (it was) then fixed it properly. I was happy that I didn't have to pay out $5k for AC but very frustrated that a problem like that was not found nor diagnosed. Even though it was payed for. Aside from the diagnostic charge, i took off work, and didnt have my truck for 1-2 days while they did the "diag" Also the shop's hourly rate is over $200 an hour. For oil changes and basics suspension sure (but over priced) for any serious work do not take your car here. This is like a mcdonalds for auto repair.. (except very expensive) Maybe they knew about the wires but wanted to charge for actual work (i hope not but you never know) read more

Imagine trusting someone to rotate your tires every-time you get your oil changed and then you go to where you bought your tires to get the air checked and they ask you when was the last time you rotated your tires? I reply every time I get my oil changed why? Then they tell you my tires have never been rotated since you have bought them from us and shows me the proof! Sun auto open a mile from me 15 years ago or so. I came here a few times and had a oil changed and that was about it. They were by the book it kind of not the type of repair place I like to deal with. I came in for an alignment, and the manager personally went out and inspected the tires to make sure they were not delaminating from my description of the problem. that's a good sign. The alignment was to be done right at closing in about 45 minutes before that I said hey can you change my oil. They did and finished after closing. When I went to pay the bill, they said hey we have a $15 coupon for the oil change that I applied. So they're looking out for their customers. From my poor experience in years past, the new Cruz doing a good job and you should give them a try. read more

Nice shop, and the staff was friendly. However, I booked an appointment online. When I got there they said I did not have an appointment in the system, so not sure what happened there. Luckily they were able to take me in anyway. The reason that I came here was to troubleshoot an issue I am experiencing with my vehicle, which is under an extended warranty, and their web site states that they work with extended warranties. when I went in to pick my car up they said that it "could be" one of a couple of things and suggested that I take the car to the dealership for further investigation, and charged me $200 for the diagnosis. So, I paid $200 for them to tell me that it's either something, or nothing at all and told me to take my car elsewhere. Seriously??? Based on this experience I cannot see myself going back to Sun Auto Service again. read more

Went in with a check engine light on. At the desk I told them that I was told it was the catalytic converter's. The first estimate was $2800.00 to solve the problem and that it wasn't the cats. Okay that's good news Picked up the truck the next day. Light came back on within 60 miles. Take it back now they say they found other problems. Okay again I'll pick it up in a couple of days. Now we are up to $5000.00. I leave with the truck and light comes back on again around 60 miles. They tell me to put 100 miles on it and bring it back in. Today's condition report the catalytic converter's need replacing Now the want $3700.00 more dollars to fix the problem I told them about the first time I brought it in. 30 years in business and I have never been ripped off so bad. read more

They quickly Identified my issue and very Courteously worked me into their heavy workload! I am amazed at their patience and willingness to help a Senior Citizen! I really appreciate their service! I will *NEVER* use Sun Auto again. I have been a loyal customer there especially since I lived in Georgetown for 20 years and used them up there. This Lakeway group is a ripoff. My daughter was flat-out taken advantage of and told she needed all new brakes and rotors. I took a picture of the rotors just so I could post them to Yelp and Google Reviews and everywhere else. There was *NOTHING WRONG* with the rotors and I'm saying as much everywhere to warn everyone. I will not tolerate you taking advantage of people like this. Was also told that she needed TWO new front tires. Yes, one was in very bad shape but I took a picture of the other one and it was nowhere near needing replacement. I had the oddest experience with these guys last week. Keep in mind I've been a steady customer of them with several vehicles since they opened and I always held them to be an honest and competent shop that gave good results. It was really nice that they are a quick walk from my house. Now, to last week. My truck displayed a "check engine" and a flashing overdrive light. Brought it to The Sun Auto Lakeway location first thing the next morning. When I tried to check in, I had the weirdest conversation with the counter person. He kept asking me what was wrong. He kept repeating the questions like he had memory issues. (I told him the truck mileage and model at least four times) After going back and forth about what I thought was wrong, what previous work I had done, and what I was actually driving, he told me that he did not want to "risk" working on it and I should take it to a transmission shop. So I left and took it to their major competitor a couple miles down the road. I was seen immediately, diagnosed, (bad transmission speed output sensor) and back on the road in under an hour and a half. Total cost with diagnostic, $330. I drove it to South Texas and back the next day (roughly 600 miles) with no problems at all. I'm not sure what the counter guy's deal was, but I won't be using them again. read more

I had my car towed to Sun Auto Service Lakeway. They diagnosed my car and found it was for the starter. On my 2019 Jeep Cherokee and the cost would be 1000.00 due to no alternative could be bought, which was correct. The whole cost for the repair would be 2100.00. I stated do not do the work. I went to another auto service. After being looked at they found that it was the dead battery, that ended up costing me 290.00. This is bad business. Sun Auto Service will rip you off! Do not take your car/truck there. I took my car in for a transmission problem and they diagnosed as a rear end problem. They had my car for almost 2 weeks and when I picked it up, it had the same problem I took it in for. I took it back and James took a test drive with me and said he would call me back. After 2 weeks, I got tired of waiting for the call and took it somewhere else. I was a customer there for over 10 years but not any more! read more

I took my car in for a brake job. It took them a week. After that week I noticed my car sounded funny. Opened the hood and they forgot to put the new air filter in. Neat. A few days later, I heard a noise of something falling off of one of the wheels and came to a screeching halt and could not move. Jerked me off the road and almost wrecked. Who knew you had you actually bolt down brake calipers! I had to get a tow which they reimbursed. I should have been reimbursed for the entire thing. I could have been killed. While sitting here listening to the employees answer the phones and also here the manager mimicking the client when he hung up the phone to his employees. This place needs help. I set up an appointment a week in advance only to walk in and be told they did not have my appointment on the books but would squeeze me in. They were not able to squeeze me in and had to keep the car over night. I then set up an appointment for our other family car only to be quoted an outrageous price. I called several shops in the area for estimates and all were $500 less expensive than the quote I was given from Suns. Upon speaking to the service manager about the cost he informed me that they used higher quality parts and that the quotes I received from their competitors were for cheaper parts. So, I again reached out to these competitors and researched reviews and quality of parts they were using. My findings had me taking my business elsewhere. I would shop around if you get an estimate from here and should you make an appointment call ahead and make sure they still have you on the books. Nicole was very sweet at the front desk and the manager did refund the $118 diagnosis fee as in my appointment records I was already requesting the repairs on what they had diagnosed. Sons Auto 1 Wheel Bearing = $809 Four Competitors in Lakeway = $318-$350 All of the competitors laughed when I told them Suns suggested they were using sub-par parts and immediately sent me links to the parts they use so I could research. read more

After going to Sun in Lakeway several times since it first opened I always felt good about the service and the prices. I had my vehicle info in the computer and got a lot of oil changes there and occasional minor repairs as well as recommending them to a lot of people in Lakeway. The last time I went there i got my oil changed with the wrong oil. I always got the synthetic blend, but I noticed on my receipt a few months later that they used conventional oil. As I was waiting for my oil change to wrap up the service writer came out with a very serious look on his face and told me my brake pads were wearing unevenly and should be replaced as well as the rotors. He quoted me $860.00. I declined and paid for the oil change and left. I got home removed the rear brake calipers and inspected the brakes personally. They were perfect. So he lied to me and they used the wrong oil. I found out the same company bought Sun and Lambs and owns several other auto service shops. So that's the new Sun not the old Sun I am familiar with and whom I trusted. There you go. The take away: incompetent thieves and liars. Now to try to find at least an honest auto repair facility? Been going here for a long time because they had reasonable prices however, I have been shocked lately because of how expensive they have become. In addition, lots of hidden fees, and to add insult to injury, they add additional work that you do not ask for. They added approx. $600 of other things that they wanted to do to the car. Once I realized how padded the proposed cost was, I asked them to remove the non-wanted work but they kept pushing more work and make you feel small if you say no. Plus there are added items at the bottom line that added up to $140 over what I agree to, such as, $65 for shop materials that they never tell you about. I am done with Sun. read more

Sadly I have to update and lower my rating on Sun Auto. I called them to see if I could get an oil change and also check my A/C because it stopped working the day before. They said they were busy but would try to get me in if I could drop off the car early. I told them I would be there in 5 minutes. I dropped off my car a few minutes later around 9:00 am and had my husband follow me so I would not have to wait at the shop. Got a call shortly after saying I needed a new A/C kit. They quoted me $1800 which I said I could not pay for that day. They offered me several ways I could pay but I repeated that I couldn't afford the repair right now and I was just going to get the oil change that day. Around 12:00 pm we called to get the status on my vehicle and the oil change was not done. We ended up getting the car around 1:00 pm without anything being done. Over 4 hours is a really long wait for an oil change especially when they had time to diagnose my car and try to get me to finance the repair. I'll go to another shop for oil changes from now on. I don't need the extra wait and the sales tactics. --------------------------------- My go to for oil changes. The last time I dropped off my car and had a family member take me home so I didn't have to wait. Sometimes it can be a while so I try to go early in the morning. Just depends on how many people got there first. No issue with that, they are popular in the Lake Travis community. If you happen to be waiting for your vehicle there is a clean seating area with a tv to keep you occupied. And a phone charger in case you need a little juice. After your oil change they will give you an estimate for any repairs that need to be done but I take my cars to a different mechanic for that. No upsell, just the oil change. read more

PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU TAKE YOUR CAR HERE FOR ANYTHING. These guys are the biggest crooks in town. I dropped my vehicle as AC was not working, they said entire AC system (compressor, condenser, fans,...) broken, need to replace the whole nine yard. Cost $2059. Agreed to get the job done. Took the car and felt AC is not cool enough, called back and dropped the car in next 2 days. Now they are saying its leaking + a valve is broken and may be something as well else. Are going to charge me again for another $1407 What the heck just happened? What did you fix with $2059. Did you even test before returning the car? I asked to speak to manager. Michael, tells me let me get him, comes back after 5 minutes saying he is off. Now my car is stuck for another day to talk to manager and spend another $1407. Called the corporate, then area manager reached to me. Giving me another long story. With this corrupt practice, i am sure Sun Auto wont last long in Lakeway. May be they are only good for oil change and have NO SKILLS in car repair. Only time people have given then 5 stars is for cheap oil change. If it wasn't for oil change, their average rating wont be 4 stars. These guys have no clue, how quickly things like this spread in Lakeway. This is horrible business practice. Recommendation of business: Change name to "Sun Auto Oil Change ONLY". You might get successful and also save people going thru all the aggravation. Win-Win for all. Check engine light. Jiffy Lube ran the diagnostic when I went in for an oil change a couple of weeks prior: misfire between 3rd/4th cylinder. Change spark plugs. Went by Sun Auto, LAKEWAY, today (Saturday) and was told they couldn't work on it and to make an appointment for Monday. Fair enough. I know that the world does not revolve around me (even though most of the bays were open; perhaps they weren't fully staffed.).... Oh wait, there's more... ...Drop it off at open and car should be ready at the end of the afternoon. Told them I would need to wait on-site for the repair to be done. Was then told that Monday's visit was just for the diagnostic and depending on what they found, I could make an appointment for the repair on Tuesday. He added that they needed that time to order the parts. Hmmm, pretty sure I already told them the diagnostic was already run and pretty sure a diagnostic takes 2 minutes and yep, those pesky spark plugs are so hard to find. Suggestions on improving the customer experience: 1) It's a rainy Saturday (read: potential customer works during the week and probably not able to deal with this any other time, much less over multiple visits; 2) 11 year old car (read: fix what's broken, don't put "what might happen if I don't" in my head in an effort to upsell me; 3) Specific problem and specific service identified by customer (read: If I know what a misfire is, I probably know a diagnostic entails - you have to get off your lazy ****, plug a device in and look up a code). My first clues should have been a mechanic explaining to a customer on the phone why they didn't replace all the lug nuts and another customer who was clearly being upsold. Sun Auto is practically in my neighborhood and would be a very convenient choice for this and future work but they don't seem to be very interested in working. No stars for this location and definitely no recommendation based on today's (one and only) visit. p.s. The mechanics a couple of miles up the street were more than happy to have my business and I was in and out in under 30 minutes. read more

Do not use Sun Auto Lakeway. We have a Honda Pilot that we usually service at the dealer but decided to give SunAuto a chance. They improperly change the timing belt and oil pump seal that now both have to be replaced. In addition, the oil sensor failed as they did not cover it and it corroded as a result. Due to SunAutos errors, we now have to pay over $3,300 to have it repaired at the dealer. The technicians at Honda explained exactly what happened and relayed this information to the manager at SunAuto, Anthony Mophis. Initially he agreed the only way liquid could get into the sensor was if it was open. He then refused to accept responsibility on behalf of SunAuto, citing the corrosion could have happened overtime. I would perhaps agree if the corrosion wasn't the exact same color as the coolant that is specific to Honda. I have a complaint into the area manager, who hopefully will step up and do the right thing. read more

They were so nearby it had to be too good to be true. I guess for quick things they are okay, they seem to have a lot of good reviews. But of course I took my car in on Tuesday and was told it would be Friday until they were finished, that it was a 10 hour job. So Friday I call and they act like they don't know anything about it, it's going to be Tuesday. Avoid these fools. I've been a loyal customer for many years. No longer. After a recent front differential fluid change my differential started to leak...A LOT!!! I called them and they sent a tow truck. They tried to convince me that the seals were leaking. This vehicle never leaked before this. The cost???? 600.00. But because the felt bad and were doing me a favor for being a good customer they would split the cost. After consulting with the manufacturer.. it takes a prescribed amount of fluid and if filled to where it leaks out like some do it'll bypass the seals and leak. Which it did. It no longer leaks now because it's leaked down to the level it should be. ALSO!!!! Just today after noticing some engine oil leaks i looked under the engine. The oil filter was loose and i could literally tighten and loosen it with my fingers. I guess that's how they gain future business. Loosely install an oil filter. When it leaks down and seizes the motor they'll blame you. Well they will never see me or the several car vehicles I've taken there. Pathetic. UPDATE!!!!After reading the other reviews it looks like most are for the Lakeway shop. That's where i had my issues also. Y'all better get your act together!!! read more

Gave two stars because everyone I spoke to was nice, and they were able to give me a ride back to work while they checked out my car. I came for an oil change and to check out some weird stuff my engine seemed to be doing. They kept me updated by phone the whole time they had the car, which was nice. Apparently there was a hole in my transmission pan, which is why it had been shifting erratically. They quoted me $540 dollars to install a new one. I picked up my car with the intent to do more research. Multiple articles said the repair averages at $140, ranging from $80-$200. I got it done the next day at Budget Lube for $100. I don't know if it's because they're in Lakeway and are used to over charging people who can afford it or what but I will definitely not be back and wouldn't trust them with any repair.
