Well Lam's is a continuation of my trek to find interesting markets in the area. We were preparing for our Super Bowl party, so I decided on a Dim sum theme. Having spent time in Northern CA, I love the stuff. So the search was on for for dumplings, noodles and my favorite, Lumpia. Chinese new year is a week away, so why not. So I found Lam's in Avondale. Lam's is a medium size market with merchandise squeezed into every nook of the store. The isles are someone narrow and have a dizzying array of things to take in. They have a nice meat market with seafood galore. They also have candy of all types and prepared food for takeout. There's just too much to describe. What I thought was really neat, was that they have isles for each ethnicity; Chinese, Japanese, Filipino and even Jamaican. I was looking for banana sauce for my Lumpia and found that it was not with the other Chinese sauces. I had to look for it in the Filipino section. Interestingly, the crowd there was very diverse. If you need fresh seafood or anything Asian food related, I can't imagine not finding it at Lam's! I will let my photos do the talking. read more

I was impressed at the wide variety of specialty options here. Lots of Asian, Filipino, African, and Jamaican products. Nice produce aisle, Seafood and meat market with butcher, lots of international snacks and drinks. Aisles nice and clean. There is a strong fish smell when you walk in. A little more pricey for some items. For example, the dandelion greens we picked up here were big and fresh but cost $3.29 each. Usually priced around $1.99 at Fry's. Worth it for the extra variety. There are so many options at this small market. My wife and I LOVE going just to peruse through the isles. Everything is fairly priced, and there are a decent amount of sales too. I love ramen, so I will go here to try different styles/types. The staff ate so friendly, and it's in a great location. I'm lucky I live close! read more

I stopped in here just to see what they had. This is an East Asian grocery store with a variety of different countries represented in their products. Their produce looked great and they had a great variety. They had a wide variety of fish and other seafood, and tasty looking meats. The store was clean, well lit and very well stocked. They have pantry items, kitchen stuff, snacks, alcohol, and specialty eggs. Parking was easy, and the location was easy to find. I'd shop here again. read more

I came here for the first time last weekend. I was so shocked by how good of a market it was. They were reasonably priced. They had plenty of Filipino options. They also have a full service seafood counter. They do fry fish! Not all of the markets do that! It is fairly organized, but pretty small. I was shocked by how much they had to offer. I was absolutely floored at the amount of offerings this Little market had. My expectations were pretty low walking in, but they were quickly satisfied with the massive selection of vegetables! They have a huge variety of refrigerated noodles and kimchi and a lot of seafood offerings as well. The aisles have a ton of international cuisine readily available for everyone, so this was a very nice change away from the all American grocery chain. read more

Lots of international food variety here. Yes, it has a fishy scent - there are live fish tanks so likely expected? Some prices can be on the expensive side. Maybe it's the cost of 'convenience', or the fact that they're the only store within a respectable distance that has the variety they do. Either way, I do recommend as for what I need, they're close, and the check-out service is great when both stations are manned. read more

Got some Jellies , ube pan del sol , ube wafers, lumpia , red bean steam buns and much more . The store was friendly , clean and welcoming. I do not understand how the store has such a high rating. Initially, I was very happy to see an Asian grocer on the west side as I generally love shopping at such stores. They have a decent supply of food items you might need. However, the smell in the store is unbearable. They really need to allocate some of their budget to dealing with the smell problem. It smells horrible. I walk out of there and have to go change my clothes. Gagging while shopping for food is never ideal. No complaints on the staff. read more

Way too crowded, aisles are very narrow and packed. Produce didn't appear very fresh.

The employee gwendolyn was very nice and helpful!! overall the store had a nice atmosphere and helpful staff.

Great supermarket to keep coming back to, excellent customer service reasonable prices, and delicous foods. They have a wide variety of fresh seafood, meats, to snacks and dry goods, to kitchenware and health household items. Honestly has everything you can imagine! I always come back to the store and they even go all out during the holidays, definitely a family friendly store! Thanks for having an Asian market in west valley of Phoenix. A little small but chock full of many ethnic items. The selection is great and while they may not have "everything" it sure covers almost all of our needs. Great Asian market in Arizona. I love how I found such great Filipino food here especially ingredients to make halo halo. This was exactly what I have been looking for. OH, they also have fresh Ube root!!! This store has a variety of Asian ingredients for your next dish. However, Service was okay, the cashiers don't really smile much and the place was pretty decent. This Lam's market is filled with employees that are working and neatly stocking items and really keeping the esthetics up in this store. Everything was so fresh and neat. I was super excited that this Lam's is so so close to me. I was like I don't have to drive to Mesa or Peoria. Sweet, right? The first 3 months were awesome, clean, bright, and had stocked shelves. Today, fies are everywhere from the time I get out of my car until I get back to it. Veggies are fresh not like a few months ago, check the produce. I bought rice noodles from the shelf by the refrigerators and it was green and moldy when I opened the package. I love these little sake bottles with juice. Pineapple one is my favorite. I heard that Lams opened a new location in Avondale. Though I liked it as an option for emergencies, I find their products overpriced compared to lee lees or Hmart. They do have a good variety of Filipino products but gotta pay extra since it's more expensive there. The place is a bit small and super compact. Service was friendly. Line went fast. Lam's has a huge variety of mostly Asian goods, plus a surprisingly good little Jamaican foods area. I can't help but compare it to Lee Lee's store; while Lee Lee has better prices and a broader selection, Lam's Avondale store is a LOT closer to the far west side, so they definitely win for convenience. Plus, they have some things I've never seen elsewhere, like unusual variety of Lay's chips and some cool stuff like isinglass that I've only countered in 17th century cookbooks. The day I visited, the meat and produce areas were well-stocked, though I note that other reviews say that varies a lot. read more

We visited Lam's on a Saturday afternoon, and we loved their selection! They had a healthy variety of fun drinks, desserts, seasonings, ingredients, sake, and our favorite, instant noodles. They also had an awesome produce section with pink dragon fruit which can be difficult to find in the states. If I lived locally, I would likely be here all the time for whatever I needed. read more

I'm so happy that this place is here. So, so happy... but it's not perfect. Their selections are good, but they're not great. You can get butterfish, gai lan, pork belly, and an assortment of steamed dumplings, but there's no alcohol and the stock of meats and seafood is sporadic. Some days the shelves are absolutely *bare* (which I hope is indicative of people shopping here like crazy!!!) and several times I've noticed items in places where they don't belong (a number of the dumplings had the wrong labels or were just in the wrong place entirely). I want to support this place and help them thrive, because I want to believe that the west valley is evolving and becoming more diverse. I want to believe that some day we'll have good Thai and Vietnamese out here. I want to believe that one day we might have some hot pot restaurants. This Lams is definitely a great start, and I really hope that they do well. I'll be buying whatever I can from here, but I'll still need to go to Sprouts and ( help me, the nearby Frys) for a few items. Also- any chance y'all will ever carry fresh renkon...? read more

I had high hopes for this place. Sadly it's turning into just like all the other Lams...hit or miss. The opening day was great. It was great for the next couple weeks. I've been there about 7 times now. Meat quality is poor. The pork smells and you can tell it's old!! Went recently and they had no beef. It's the closest Asian market near me so I know I'll be back. Probably not for the meat tho. The workers are also mean! I've tried having convos with the cashiers just to be friendly. Nope! Rude answers and crappy attitude. If you hate your job so much leave! It's a solid place to get a variety of groceries from around the world here in the west valley. I noticed that they sell a lot of seafood and produce, I didn't see as much meat as I would see in the H Mart in Mesa. I would call this more of an international market instead of an Asian one, since they also have sections for Latin American, Caribbean, and even some African food. They've also got plenty of frozen food options, ranging from sweet desserts to savory dumplings. My disappointment surprisingly came from lookin at their noodles + ramen section, which I was looking to stock up on. The noodles here are more expensive than what they are at other International or Asian food stores in or near the city. Even Fry's or Walmart have some of the noodle brands for cheaper. This is a good place to get produce (yay health) and try out a variety of snacks whether it be cookies, chips, and anything in between (yay snacks). read more
