The Phoenix area has some of the best Mexican eateries, and this is one of them. The restaurant is old but clean. We have been there for breakfast eating Huevos rancheros, and huevos à la Mexicana. Both dishes were very good. Our next visit we went for lunch and enjoyed 2 very mouthwatering dishes. The service is quick! Parking outside is limited and they do not serve hard liquor. Plenty of seating inside and can accommodate large parties. This place serves flavorful and authentic Mexican food. It is a spot that we have recommended to several friends and family. Those that have visited agree that it is very good. They are also known for their seafood dishes, although we have yet to try. read more

I ordered for pickup. The lady on the phone was very pleasant. When I arrived my food was ready and packed. I ordered a shrimp cocktail, a ceviche tostada, aguachiles, and shrimp tacos. All the food was very tasting and they did not skimp on the shrimp in the cocktail. Some places tend to skimp on the shrimp in cocktails, but the cocktail had plenty of shrimp. I would definitely come back here either to dine in or for pickup. If you haven't tired this place I would recommended it. read more

Coming here forever and if you blink driving on the m80 you might miss it but the food is consistently delicious the portions are great and although I pretty much always get the same thing this time I tried something new (for me) coconut shrimp ceviche! It will be my new normal. Couple of beers and really great salsa and now my new favorite! Guitar player on the weekends not sure when he starts are stops but he's fantastic! I never want to leave but there aren't many tables so to let everyone else enjoy you must give others room. This place is really a hidden gem. We ordered ostiones preparados, which are basically little ceviche bowls in an oyster shell, fried tilapia, and molcajete. I was a little surprised when the molcajete came out, since it was just in a plastic bowl. I thought that molcajete was, by definition, a bunch of stuff in a bowl of volcanic rock with bubbling red sauce, but this was more like a coctel de camarones with a bunch of different seafoods in a cold broth. To be totally fair, on the menu it WAS listed under the ceviches, so I guess I should have known better. My initial annoyance was replaced with bliss once I tried it, though. It was absolutely delicious, really refreshing and fresh. The fried tilapia was absolutely *amazing*, deliciously seasoned and fried to perfection. We literally reduced it to a pile of clean bones, even picking around the head for all the little bits of goodness around the face. Don't be fooled by the exterior, this place is serving up some really amazing seafood and you should definitely stop by to try it out. read more

You're supposed to devein shrimp so you don't get the gritty texture from the digestive tract. My shrimp cocktail was gritty and could not get past the texture. I didn't want to be that person to say something but I did and I was told I would still be charged for it even though I only took a few bites. I was going to order different food, but decided not to after being forced to pay for something I was not satisfied with. I have never been told this at a restaurant it is basic etiquette. read more

When you have been going to a place for over 10 yes its sucks to get shitty customer service over and over. New girl was so rude to my mom who has been coming there since they opened.. I come at least once a month. I would like the owner to know that his workers are not up to par. I will call and speak to him. I don't know her her name but literary it's her everytime. We found this place while leaving a Spring Training game at Goodyear Stadium. The food was delicious and did not disappoint. A couple of us ordered shrimp cocktail, it was packed with shrimp and very tasty. The shrimp octopus tostada was also a very hearty serving. It was very busy but the 2 waitresses hustled and managed to keep all the tables happy. I would sit again if back in the area. read more

Ventured a bit south of our Surprise. I came to Mariscos Las Playitas in Avondale today after rushing over to Laura's Burger's after work only to be turned away rather crushingly :(. I made it to Laura's with minutes to spare but was told they were out of food and the couple in front of me were the last orders for the night. I really wanted a burger but had to find other sustenance in the area. After a quick yelp search I rediscovered this Mexican seafood restaurant a few minutes away. The restaurant is clean, the staff is nice and the food was fresh and delicious. I did not stay and eat instead I took my ceviche to go since my wife still wanted a burger and insisted we make a stop at Pete's Fish & Chips. I've always found the price of Mexican seafood expensive, but I guess compared to what I pay for sushi or steaks at Longhorn, it's cooperative, and definitely didn't disappoint this time. Another big plus, they have Michiladas! I will definitely be back! BTW no military discount, surprising, especially this close to Luke AFB. read more

He was known to order his own creation of a burrito as he was picky at what he did or didn't want to eat. Now, you can visit and ask for a Marco burrito, the chefs & most of the host's know exactly what to ring up. Everything was delicious and fresh. We ordered a dozen of oysters which were really big, delicious and fresh! We also had carne asada tacos, carnitas tacos and a shrimp taco on flour tortillas. again they were delicious. My son has the kids carne asada plate, big helping and he loved it! We will definitely come back again! The only downside was that once we got our main dishes, no one came back to check in on us. Otherwise this would have been 5 stars instead of 4! read more

Mariscos Las Playitas' biggest "problem" (if that's the right word for it) is its location. It definitely isn't in a good part of town, as has been mentioned in other reviews. And while it might sound racist to say so, people were VERY surprised when two white guys walked into the place (or maybe, they looked at how fat I was and were scared there'd be no food left over after I had dinner ... who knows?). And also, as mentioned in other reviews, the music can be very loud and the decor is definitely basic. Now, if you can get beyond the fact that this isn't a place out to impress you or attract middle-class gringos, who aren't happy unless everything is perfect, you'll do perfectly fine here. Yes, the location and decor are nothing to write home to mom about; but the food is quite good and the service very friendly. I had the filet a la diablo and I asked for it to be muy picante. The sauce had the tanginess of a BBQ sauce, but wasn't sweet (and it WAS very spicy). I asked for a larger portion of salad instead of rice and beans and while plain, the lime served with the meal made an acceptable dressing. The fish was quite tasty. My partner had the filet a la Ajo, which is a garlic fish. When it came, I was very concerned, because it looked like it was buried in garlic ... and I'm not exaggerating. And while I could smell the garlic, both of us confirmed upon taste, that it wasn't overly garlic-tasting at all. Also, in contrast to other places, which use a lot of oil, there wasn't much on this fish. The garlic was far from overpowering and the rice and beans, while very basic, tasted good, too (so he told me). The ceviche, by the way, was also good. For the two of us, the bill came to $27 total before tip and included an iced tea on it. Hardly unreasonable and the size of the portions were more than adequate. If you've read my other reviews, you know I'm constantly whining about portions not being big enough; so if I say they're adequate here, you can be sure they are unless you're an impossible glutton. I'm not sure how comfortable I'd feel being in this area at night; but aside from that, no one made me feel uncomfortable or unwelcome after the first looks of surprise from the patrons. Perhaps there'd be a lot less surprised looks, if more people turned their mental assumptions off and had an open enough mind to try something different, somewhere different and paid this place a visit. In this case, the effort would be worth it. read more

Glad I found this place! Was greeted right away when i entered and placed an order to go. Looks like they have daily specials depending on what day u come by. I ordered the Shrimp Ceviche full order which is a box full & comes with 5-6 tostadas , avocado , lemons, ketchup and salsa Tapatio. I believe it was about $12 something. Also ordered a Mixta which had everything. Finished off with a choco flan which was nice and soft. My kids loved it! Wanted to add photos but was too hungry to take pics. With the four stars we hoped for an unforgettable authentic Mexican meal. Restaurant easy to find kinda in a run down area, oh well sometimes that's where the best food is. Our first clue should if been the house that's part of the parking area that the lights had been absolutely or electricity been turned off, the tenants were out sitting on couches and steps. The second clue should of been the music that we could hear from our parked car. On entering the establishment we saw one table occupied the rest empty, the group of five musicians were playing so load that I never new what the waitress was saying or my group. The room was small , we ordered drinks and learned there was no hard liquor Fortunately one us had two pair of ear plugs that they inserted immediately . I chose to insert to big wars of napkins in my ears. We discussed leaving but we didn't want to be hasty. We ordered and prayed they would stop playing. Both of the orders of chimichangas were over fried and the tortilla was so thick We could not cut it . Both of the guys had enchiladas the sauce was something other than the normal one , one of the plates had to be sent back cuz it was cold. The prices were the same as a fine franchise , Chilies , El Toro, . We waited longer than necessary for our food considering we were the only table ordering. Yes the music finally stopped near the end of our meal. Don't go , it's a waste of your money and time we were very very disappointed. This was November 25 . read more
