YAY! for national doughnut day. Created in 1938 by the Salvation Army in memory of the "doughnut girls" that served these tasty treats to the US soldiers of WWI. All the employees here were fast and friendly as they whipped up these free goodies to everybody who came. I also agree with other reviewers who say that Lamars has the best kind of doughnuts since they are not hard and cakey or hollow and squishy like some other doughnut shops. I was on the fence about Lamar's Donuts for awhile. I grew up on Velvet Creme Doughnuts in South Florida, and in my later years, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. They both are light and melt in your mouth, and you might easily find yourself shoveling down half a dozen before you realize it. You won't make that mistake with Lamar's Donuts. Their basic donut (is it difficult for anyone else to write "Donut" instead of "Doughnuts"?) is about 5-6 inches in diameter. They are of the yeast raised, fried variety. (Definitely my favorite over the "Homestyle" or "Cake" Doughnut.) They are airy and not too sweet, but they're more filling and dense than a Krispy Kreme. They're also about 3 times the size. They come plain Glazed, Chocolate Iced, Maple Glazed, Sprinkled and more. Their "Specialites" though are where it's at. "Bismarks": Glazed and/or Iced behemoths, just as large as the Donuts but hole-less, some stuffed or filled with Bavarian Cream, or Lemon, or Raspberry, or Blueberry, or Coconut Cream, or Apple... even Peanut Butter and Jelly! They also have a selection of "Bars" which are 8-9 inches long, and iced or stuffed too. With the Bismarks and Bars, I can usually finish half in one sitting. Another benefit of the Hole-less plain glazed Bismark? A much better option for the "Donut" part of the infamous "Krispy Kreme Bacon Cheeseburger." (And, being larger and denser, better suited to holding a burger as well.) We've watched them "Chat Up" their "regular" customers, patiently smile while kids change their minds 50 times, and of course, they're a testament to WHY the store is so clean. Secondly: The Raspberry Bismark. It is absolutely bursting with sweet-tart raspberry filling with bits of fruits still intact. The donuts are always delicious and fresh, and all the years i've enjoyed them i'd never left frustrated and confused. last weekend i went and purchased half specialty and half regular donuts (like i always do). MY family LOVES the filled bavarian creme donuts, which i ordered 3 of. When i got home i was surprised to see that none of them were filled , disappointed we ate them and i figured i'd mention it on my next trip in. Fast forward to this morning when i went into get my dozen, and when i mentioned the unfilled donuts, they acted surprised . An employee came from the back and mentioned it must have been an unfilled donut which they also sell. But the problem is i didn't order that ,but, i was charged for it. Thing is , it is obvious this was THIER mistake, they either had the unfilled in the wrong location, or grabbed the unfilled by mistake. But it was put on me, as if it was my mistake in ordering the wrong one, and no apology was presented , no 3 filled ones to rectify their mistake. I appreciate them getting me donuts on a snowy Sunday, left my usual 2 dollar tip and went on my way, just be wary, if they make a mistake, you're likely to be at blame, and not receive even a simple "sorry". read more

Almost always have a positive experience at LaMar's until today when one of the employees had an incredibly rude tone and attitude toward us. He shook his head and huffed at us after we told him what we wanted to order and spoke down to us, the only costumers in the store. The minute other costumers came in he started acting completely different and kind towards us. Definitely showed a lack of professionalism and respect. We love LaMar's Donuts. Are there better donut shops out there? Sure, Mr. Yo's in Windsor for sure, but if you're looking for a great donut and good service close to Westminster then look no further. Way better than KK or the grocery store, LaMar's is my go to. Kori was super friendly last time we visited and got me out of there fast! My only complaint is the when I call in an order for a few dozen donuts for the gang at work I get a bit of a negative tone from the lady on the phone. Funny thing is that when I show up there's some old geezer, that cut me off in the parking lot, that wants to order three dozen one at a time and that's no problem. Sometimes it's a hit or miss when it comes to the variety of donuts. Today they had a good amount so that's great...the original chocolate is one of my favorite...unfortunately they are not so great at the filled donuts. If you want poor service and in a dirty donut shop, this place is for you! Stood in an unorganized gang of customers before the counter at LaMar's Westminster Sunday mid-morning and patiently waited while later arriving customer after customer placed their dozen-plus orders before my husband and me. Eventually we were rudely "greeted" by the counter staff who threatened to move on if we did not immediately order. No need, we decided to stay instead of walk to see how long it took for us to become un-invisible. 17 minutes. In the meantime, we took note of the trash on the floor, uncleaned tables, and remnant donut chunks from the past laying along the lower edge of the donut case in front of the trays of "fresh" (they say) donuts. By the time we were brusquely pressed for an order we were disgusted with the service and queasy about eating food stored next to or touching donut remains of unknown age. Really good donuts, some of the best I've had in Denver. It's hard to know (other than early in the morning haha) if you'll end up going when they have a good selection or not. They have dazbog coffee and chai, which I think they need to change but that's just me, I've never been a fan of dazbog or their taste. Honestly, how hard is it to put donuts in a box? Apparently it's extremely difficult because I stood in line for 10 minutes while three people ordered and the two guys behind the counter are packing them up as though they're handing nuclear material that is going to explode if it moves faster than the speed of a snail. Their donuts are great, when they get my order right, I am a jelly donut junky, and Lamar's has an amazing raspberry bismark. However, the last several times I have visited this location and have ordered said RASPBERRY bismark I have been given the WRONG kind. Unfortunately, because I take them home, I don't figure this out until I settle in with a nice glass of milk. My husband stopped in to this location on Friday and, knowing my history, very clearly asked the clerk to make sure they gave him two raspberry donuts. Later that evening we discovered that the first of the two was actually CHERRY -- which I didn't even know they made! And now, this morning, the second was discovered to be blueberry. C'mon guys. Mark your trays correctly and don't move filled donuts around. This is extremely frustrating. With Dunkin coming to town soon, I will no longer be visiting your shop. read more

I've literally have had almost every donut here and they are pretty tasty. My favorites though are the Bizmarks with boston cream, Yummzies! I also like their basic glaze donut, I am usually an apple fritter fan, but I do have to say Lamar's really doesn't do it for me. I love good doughnuts, but have learned to be suspicious of them through the years. It's easy to make (and eat) a bad doughnut! I was never here, but a big box of them arrived at an office meeting, and I greeted these doughnuts warily. But they looked good to the eye, so I tried a half of a simple glazed. Yum! The donuts here are worth an early morning trip. The cake donuts are cooked perfectly (not under-done like at Dunkin Donuts). I always request the maple long john with Bavarian cream in it but that is not one of their standard combinations. So they take one of the long johns with maple frosting and take it in the back and put Bavarian cream in it. Very yummy. I keep thinking they are going to put it in the display case and call it Michelle's Donut but no luck so far. I will have to keep ordering it........ stay tuned. read more

I've been here too many times to count and each time it's hit and miss.... Oh the 'miss' days, I feel like I'm getting day old donuts. How do I know? I usually get my Lamar's off 6th at the Denver location. The people are nice here, and the donuts are definitely "Lamar's", but of all the times I've been here and gotten milly, seemingly old donuts, I can honestly say that I only come here if I am running too late to go to the Denver location. Would I recommend Lamar's? YES. Would I recommend this Lamar's? HELLS NO. I would sooner recommend the Louisville location over this one (I've been there once, fresh, friendly, LAMAR'S). All of my boys at work love Lamar's donuts. They have a great variety of flavours. Their old fashioned sour cream powdered sugar donut with a chocolate drizzle is the best ever. Crispy in the outside with a tender crumb inside. They serve great coffee and have a wonderful staff. This is the only donut shop I go to for my guys at work. read more

The donuts here are some of the best you can get. Drive straight past Dunkin's up the street and come here instead. No crazy flavors or phallic shapes. Quality is consistent. The donuts are huge and have body unlike Krispy Kreme. Krispy Kreme isn't a bad donut but it's just different from Lamar's and most people seem to like one or the other. This would be a 5 star review if it weren't for the terrible coffee. They have 3 flavors, light, dark and house, but they all just taste like hot water. Starbucks is across the street and it is by no means a good cup of coffee but it's they only thing decent if you want coffee that tastes like coffee to go with your donut. read more

We are from Boise Idaho visiting a family member who is in the hospital. We searched for donuts in Westminster and saw Lamars donuts with the great reviews. We were not disappointed! The donuts were fabulous and the manager and staff couldn't have been more friendly. We mentioned being out of town and never having tried Lamars and we were given a free donut to try and it was excellent. We would highly recommend Lamars to anyone looking for a tasty treat. Lamar's makes the best donuts in the entire Denver metro area. This store in particular never seems to run out of the popular flavors, and the staff is friendly and very helpful. I stopped in to bring donuts to my team at work (a late meeting last night meant no time to make the homemade treat I wanted to), and as it was almost 7:30am when I arrived, I expected them to be sold out of most flavors. Not the case; the front cases were well-stocked, and there was no line at all. I got in and out in under five minutes, with plenty of time to make it to work before my team arrived. read more
