They have all the classics of a donut shop and the flavor was great on everything we tried! This isn't a place for all the out of the box, new types of donuts but what they have, they sure do well. The donuts are good. They are more cake-like and dense compared to Dunkin' Donuts. 5280 is my husband's favorite place to get donuts because they are affordable. The shop is kinda strange to me. It's large and open but most of the space is not being utilized. It appears to be one large room. I could not see a back area or doors leading to another area. There's a couple tables to eat at and random storage in the same room. Behind the counter all I could see is a microwave and toaster. So, I'm just wondering how they make/bake the donuts??? Also, the furniture (tables and chairs) are basic and plastic. It just doesn't seem like they invested a lot into the interior. It is also carpeted, which is odd for a cafe. Overall, it's not really somewhere guests would want to stay and hang out. The employees were very nice and helpful. Mmmm, mmmm, mmmm donuts galore!!! So scrumptious and dangerous, who can ever resist these unhealthily morning desserts!!! Lol Gosh, I am just so happy we stopped here to try it out! This is a very good danger spot for yummy donuts for sure! I bought 18 donuts to take with me to a hangout with the family. I was feeling a bit piggy, oink, oink, lol, and had 4 donuts! Been to this place twice and both times I have been here not a very good selection of donuts left!. Very disappointing. And mind you both times were in the morning at 9 am and 10 am I have went. Look I get they're only open til 1:00 pm but you know people will be going to your establishment from the time you open to almost closing why wouldn't you have more of a bigger of selection of donuts; besides the small selection that have been sitting there for a couple of hours. I understand if it was already 12 o'clock and no big selection of donuts but it wasn't. read more

I feel like I have very specific memories about what a doughnut (donut?) should taste like. I remember being a kid living in Maryland and having Dunkin Donuts for the first time. The donut was soft, airy, sweet, and paired perfectly with a nice cold glass of milk. As I grew up I would find that a place like Yum Yum Donuts in California was the type of donut for me. A late night donut that was being cranked out at whatever time of the day and represented that soft dough with just the right amount of bite to it. Krispy Kreme was something that everyone ate for awhile and sometimes I think about getting an original glazed from there but I never really CRAVE it anymore. Those donuts feel like comparing American cheese to real cheese, it is just oil shaped to be an object resembling something. Anyway, as I got older I realized that donuts just didn't taste the same. Dunkin now tastes like the best grocery store donuts you can buy. Grocery store donuts aren't donuts. Places like Lamar's and Voodoo get hyped but they both taste kind of stale to me (Voodoo more so). Maybe donuts are a thing for children or maybe the modern era just hasn't been kind to donuts. Enter 5280 Donuts My first bite from a donut here immediately brought me back to what my memory of a donut should be (realistically, this probably means that they are better than any donut I had as a kid because my kid palate was...probably dumb). They have every classic little donut shop option you could want as far as flavor goes. Their apple fritter seems like their special offering. I wasn't an apple fritter guy before this place and now I get it almost every time. No matter if you like cake donuts or yeast doughnuts you will make the right choice here. These are some of the best donut holes and chocolate cake donuts you'll find in the city! I have to admit, I've had a love/dislike (hate would be too much) relationship with this place. Don't get me wrong, the donuts are delicious and the staff/service are very friendly and I definitely recommend. them very highly. My niece found this place a few years ago when she and her family visited and from then on, it has been my goto place as most other donut shops don't have very good donut holes (either they are cake or too doughy). This place gets it right with fluffy dough and light icing. Plus I really like their chocolate cake donuts as well as the variety of donuts. Now for the not so good - take this with a grain of salt as this is more me than the shop. We just happen to have one of the best in the country in our backyard, well 20 minutes from Erie. There was a place there that had unbelievable doughnuts, and I have to say that 5280 has come very close to my place in NOLA. First of all, the apple fritters are delicious! They have delightful chunks of apple, cinnamon, and best of all they are not dry! The pershing doughnut is my next favorite. It is melt in your mouth deliciousness. I managed to make it to this wonderful establishment right before the corona virus temporarily (hopefully) shut them down. I went at about 7am on a Saturday, and I was greeted immediately by a kind woman behind the counter. We tried half a dozen of the most beautiful donuts I've seen in a long time. They were all sweet, fried perfection and made me feel very nostalgic. My favorite were the apple fritters, which she makes in a version that does not necessitate an up-charge. Stopped here on the way into work to pickup some donuts for the office. Price was fair and seemed to be a crowd pleaser as there were hardly any left by mid morning. They have a good selection to choose from and we're fresh. Would definitely recommend in the future, the only negative is the parking is a little cramped. read more

This place looks like a zero from the outside, and when you go in, it looks like a cross between a greasy spoon in the middle of nowhere, USA, and a janitor's closet at a mid-sized airport. These are the best donuts I have ever had. They are worth getting up early in the morning for, they are universally excellent. Staff is friendly, and there is a sense of community with regulars, but if you are new you are also greeted and treated warmly. Donuts are cheap as chips. If you're looking for a fancy donut spot, this is not for you. Donuts are below average and the workers are some of the rudest. They don't acknowledge you even if you leave them a $3 tip on an $8 order. My boyfriend's family came over one Sunday morning and we cooked some major bbq and what's more than having dessert waiting after some massive ribs? Donuts? Duh!
