We took moment to visit the Lambert's Ozark location while on Christmas vacation in Branson. 40 minutes away from Branson Landing...the mall. I'd only been to the Sikeston location 15-years ago. So, this was a treat. I could still recall that the meals were huge and there were still "pass-arounds" as they call it. An endless supply of Side meals (PASS AROUNDS) which are plopped onto your plate. Throwed rolls (deliciously warm popovers) served with a heaping of sweet surgham molasses. I ordered my all-time favorite Chicken Fried steak...topped with whipped mashed potatoes and white gravy...PERFECTLY SEASONED!! Green beans and beets. The beets were room temp...so I didn't really touch them. The green beans were delicious. My mother ordered the fried liver (2-steaks) and onions. Which tasted just like my grandmother's. She enjoyed them. Me...I tried it but Im not a lover for the taste of liver. She also likes fried okra. I tried them...they are crunchy until the seeds hit the palate then they are slimey. Called to place a to go order last night just before 9 pm. Did not know they closed at 9pm. The girl that answered transferred me to the to go order line. After several minutes of waiting the call went to a message machine. I called back and was told they closed at 9. So angry! The first girl could have told me they closed at 9 instead of wasting my time. Definitely will think twice about going here again. read more

We absolutely love Lamberts and our family will gladly drive the 2 hours each time to eat here! Amazing service and love the pass around! Amazing portioned food and you will always leave over stuffed! The atmosphere is always so positive and lively! You also never have to wait extremely long they are always moving along and names are almost always being called every 5-10 minutes, and typically it's 3-4 names at a time. We come here every year! They have great food, great atmosphere and large portions. There is no reason anybody should leave Lambert's hungry. Not only do you get a meal with 2 sides they also come around with sides that they serve you straight from the pot. As well as their unique roll delivery. HOPE YOU CAN CATCH IT. But for $24.00, they were completely fine. I tasted my SO's ham steak and it was really good. The staff is always friendly too. To be honest, in some ways it's a "quantity over quality " place. Bring your stretchy pants, this place is not for tiny appetites. Everything is huge, and the pass around items are 'all you care to eat'. Gotta save room for those famous "throwed rolls"! Our very first visit here we witnessed some timid roll throwing - not this time! They meant business, throwing clear across the restaurant, and surprisingly all of the rolls were caught. I had a few fly right by my head, so I started ducking when I thought I might be in the line of fire lol. I'm sure I looked a little crazy. The restaurant's decor is kitschy in a hillbilly/roadhouse/grandma's farm kitchen sort of way. I like it, it blends in great with the touristy stuff in the area. There are a ton of booths scattered between 2 areas (I believe there are only 2, this place is huge) and they even offer a private dining room in the back for parties. There are 2 restroom areas: one by the entrance, and one by the cash register. Speaking of cash registers, they don't accept credit or debit cards. Bring cash or a check (I know, who uses checks anymore?). My first visit, I ordered the Chicken and Dumplings. Omg I loved it! This time I tried to eat a little healthier and ordered the grilled chicken plate. It came with 2 decent size chicken breasts, my choice of 2 sides, and the pass around items. Hubby ordered the "Hen size Chicken Fried Steak"....it was so big they plated it in a large metal skillet. I would hate to see the full size CFS! Everything was good, no complaints. I will mention the drinks come in large travel mugs, which I believe helps them with refills because they are huge. If you love the mugs, feel free to purchase one at the gift shop/register on your way out. PS, they sell an even bigger one than the size that's served at the table! The experience was great! Lambert's never disappoints. The staff is very friendly and courteous. The food is absolutely AMAZING! The whole dinning experience is one of a kind. One of my favorite aspects of my most recent visit was our server Alec. He was extremely friendly, on the spot with making sure we had what we needed, and went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied. The food was absolutely tremendous and extremely generous portions. Besides what you get from the menu there are also free add one. Items such as fried okra, macaroni & tomatoes, and of course, fried potatoes. And the best of all is the thrown rolls! Yes, they actually throw the large dinners rolls to you! This place does NOT do a good job social distancing nor do they enforce face masks. They also continue to walk around with a tray of rolls tossing them to customers for free. The rolls are delicious. We stopped by Lambert's Cafe on our way back to Kansas City. I never heard of this place before but they were famous for throwing hot, fresh rolls at any customer that requested it. We stopped by around 6pm and there were a lot of people eating. I was surprised there was an open table for us. Their menu was simple in my opinion and I decided to order something that sounded good to me which was the Hamburger Steak ($12.99) with mashed potatoes and green beans. I don't know why I chose green beans but I did. While waiting for our food, we had the hot rolls tossed to us. He threw it in a way that was catchable for almost everybody. The roll was pretty hot and I had to drop it on the table to prevent my hand from getting more burnt. It tasted good and was very soft. Every now and then, somebody from the restaurant came by asking us if we wanted the free food they had with them like macaroni and tomatoes or fried okra. I didn't try any of that so I can't comment on those. They didn't look bad though. Our food came and there was a lot of food. One entree can definitely be split between two people. My Hamburger Steak was pretty huge and tasted good to me. My two sides were okay at best but that was just me. I probably should have chosen different sides and maybe it would have been different. I finished about half if my food before I stopped because I didn't want to be super full (still had 3+ hours to drive). I took the rest home because it would have been a waste in my opinion. Gotta love this outrageous over the top comfort food place! My hubby took me here 13 years ago, and now our 7 yr old is a fan. It's better than I remembered. Tip: bring cash. Once seated, begin table prep. translation: put paper towels at end of table, in readiness for the coming attractions. Get your baseball catching skills ready- the thrown rolls are steaming hot (prepare to catch and immediately drop onto your paper towel, butter and dig a hole for the gooey sorghum molasses.) We love the chicken fried steak and the fried catfish entrees. The portions are truly massive. Our favorite sides: the pass around (complimentary) black eyed peas, fried potato & onions, super fresh and yummy fried okra, and I like the turnip greens. We were so ridiculously full... I was a little disappointed that they still had people packed in there without being social distanced, but after a 5 hour drive to get there, I just prayed and took my chances. Was seated promptly in a booth that I asked for. The waitress was attentive and the food was all right. It seems at this Lambert's Cafe there were not as many servers walking around with the fixin's, and as many waitresses. It may just be an optical illusion but the original Lambert's in Sikeston Missouri is considerably better in my opinion. I ordered the center cut ham steak and it was considerably smaller than the one I had ordered at the Lambert's Cafe in Sikeston. This place is truly 5 stars! The only con is that it's cash only. We were bombarded not merely with a great time, great service, fresh rolls, amazing entrees, but with an onslaught of extra sides that are just included in the experience like some of the best: fried okra, pan fried potatoes, and my personal favorite, the black eyed peas. Throwed Rolls you ask? If you haven't been there, a guy with the worlds freshest rolls throws them across the restaurant to anyone who asks and occasionally a roll actually gets caught. The rest of time it's a cacophony of comical chaos as rolls fly across tables, knock over paper towels, smack folks in the forehead and everything else you can imagine in a family friend hilarious eating adventure. I LOVE THE SORGHUM ! The fried chicken and fried chicken gizzards and livers are also good here. The steaks are excellent and so big they are served in huge skillets, the drinks are humongous also. My grandson got the chicken strips or tenders it was a huge portion came with 2 sides and pass arounds and thrower rolls. His fiancé got the chicken pot pie it was so big that I can't imagine anyone being able to eat it all and it came with all the fixings and 2 sides & rolls. I was visiting family in Jefferson City during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and they planned a trip to Springfield two hours away. Lambert's was one of our first stops; a place they previously ate at and a place they left satisfied. I was told to expect a long line outside. When we arrived, there was no line... But it was still alive and well inside. The Place: Visiting from New York City, I didn't expect them to be strict with precautions. Every jurisdiction is different. Indoor dining was tolerated, and that's what we did. When we came in, however, the place was packed. I remember loudness. Definitely a hot spot... as in a popular destination. The place is charming, riddled with history, antiques, and photographs which are more than enough to keep your attention. I had no complaints on cleanliness. There is a separate gift shop next door. 4/5. The Food: I ordered the meatloaf entree (made from scratch) which came with mashed potatoes and two sides, which I decided to be baked beans and mac & cheese (extra price). I ordered a third side: green beans. The food was more than decent. It would've been better if it weren't for the sweet sauce dumped on the meatloaf (better served on the side) and the overwhelming sweetness of the baked beans. The mac & cheese was on the bland side and the green beans were overcooked to hell, as if reheated many times. However, quantity was there and I did finish feeling satisfied. 3/5. The People: No complaints but I don't get the fuss with the thrown rolls. "Home of Throwed Rolls." I admit I'm not easily impressed, but I think there are better things to be known for than just getting hot rolls thrown at you. 4/5. If you're from out of town, Lambert's is one of the highlights in Springfield. The food is more than decent, and the place is charming enough for you to have an enjoyable experience. We never pass up an opportunity to go to Lambert's woman in the area. There wasn't a very long wait at all we were actually seated immediately. I was a tad bit in shock that we were seated so quickly. We usually have to wait in line and stand because it's so good and popular. Our food came out pretty quickly and everything was really good. The only complaint is our sons french fries weren't very fresh. They were OK, but tasted like they had been cooked awhile. read more

We stopped by Lamberts for the first time recently and we REALLY wanted to like it but were left disappointed. The menu didn't show the ingredients of the salads so we asked our server as she listed the ingredients off. Turns out she left quite a few odd so it had lots of things I had to pick out. We had our young son with us who was absolutely not hungry enough for a meal and mentioned to me when ordering that he'd just take a bite of my salad. The server then informed me if I gave him a single bite of the $12 salad I was already paying for that she'd charge us an additional 10.50 for sharing foods. Obviously I understand the concept as there is family style serving going on with a couple of sides (which we didn't have a chance to eat as nobody came by to even offer) and there's the issue of someone saying they aren't eating and then indulging in side dishes. This wasn't the case and just seemed a bit absurd for a small child. Our server rarely checked on us and honestly the burger and salad we had were very sub par and nothing special about them. I'm sure the deep fried hearty food may be great but just isn't our style. read more

This was our second visit to Lamberts but first at the location by Branson. Pulled pork not the best. But burger, shrimp was all good. The downside was they were so busy that we had to wait a little extra for the people coming around with the sides. You go for the experience and they let you take home leftovers. read more
