All the hype for home cookin'. Waited 40 minutes on fall break Thursday lunch hour. Not complaining, nice day & I was forewarned. Behind the restaurant is a wine & cheese tasting place- mosey on over to drink & taste while waiting! Food is very mediocre. I had the chicken fried steak- it wasn't fresh or high quality (probably frozen), mashed tators & gravy came from packages. Green beans & white beans were good. The hubs chicken pot pie was ok, creamy-veggies-chicken but not much flavor. Kids chicken tenders are good, canned peaches are canned peaches, chunky applesauce is ok. I have to say this used to be the go to spot for us when traveling through the area. We made a last minute trip at the end of June and I was very disappointed!! I usually get the shrimp because every main dish is all you can eat, but I wanted to try the frog legs. Pretty close to the worst I've eaten!! My son ordered the chicken and dumplings, more like noodle soup. The walk arounds where sub par also. This is a fun restaurant where they throw the rolls to you, literally. The food is moderately high priced for what you expect to get, but the flavor of the food makes up for the price, and there is plenty of it. Everything was very good. The pork chops I had were some of the best I've ever eaten. I definitely recommend going if passing through, for both the food and atmosphere. read more

The reason for this place not getting a perfect 5 stars is the wait time and lack of accommodation for waiting and the fact that they do not take debit or credit cards. I feel as though they need a much bigger place and more seating outside for those waiting no less than an hour. They also need to change with the times and add credit card machines to pay. However, on the positive side, every time I have went the food had been awesome! Make sure to bring your appetite as in addition to the meal you order you get several unlimited sides, they have coined "pass-arounds" because they literally come around and put them on your plate as many times you want! you come here only for the experience of having fresh hot rolls tossed about. foods taste like they were all from cans or prepackaged items from a low-quality grocery. hot rolls were delicious as were the black eyed peas and fried okras (which, may I remind you their only investment in these dishes were the preset temperature of oven and stove). We came here on the suggestion of a local. We passed this a week ago and it was loaded with people at about noon. Returned on a weekday at 11am and there was no wait when we got there. Lots of parking and tons of tables. The staff is friendly and watching them throw rolls with accuracy is definitely an experience. I had a salad so I can't say too much about their food, but my salad was huge. I ate maybe 1/5 of it. My dad had some kind of beef with gravy and mashed potatoes. He said his was good too but portion was also too big. He liked the fried potato and onion pass around. I'd be back just for the experience!! read more

Was there at 7:45 on December 28. Party of six. Wait was less than told! Rolls - divine as usual. Huge jugs of drinks. Husband ordered hamburger because we had had such a good one there several years back. This time, Cardboard might have tasted better. Had to literally holler -what do you have for fried potatoes (over salty this time) and fried okra (good). Was never offered any macaroni. Oh How I Love Thee. I have been here so many times I have lost count. We used to drive to the lake when we were little and stop on the way back and eat. Now as adults we drive to the lake with friends or to visit family and try to stop when we have time. You are pretty much guaranteed a 1-2hr wait, but it is so worth it. The rolls alone are worth the wait and the sorghum that goes on them. They have honey if you prefer you just have to ask for it. All the food is great. I love the passed appetizers they come around to the tables with fried okra, fried potatoes, macaroni and tomatoes, black eyed peas are all no charge and all you can eat. I have had the Lambert Burger, Hot Beef Sandwich, Pulled Pork Sandwich, Charbroiled Chicken Breast, Meatloaf, Roast Beef, Shrimp, Pork Chops, and the Country Ham (my favorite) over all the times I have been there. My favorite side is the cold chunky apple sauce. The portions are HUGE so plan on leaving with a to go bag. I always say this is a must if you are in the area. Also if you can not catch have someone in your party catch the rolls or they will hit you in the head. It is awesome to watch them fling the rolls across the full length of the dinning room. read more

Bring your appetite, but don't bring your credit cards, they are not accepted. Cash or Checks only. Note: we had to wait for about 90 minutes (in late June '09) to finally be seated. The food tastes wonderful, and the side dishes keep on coming, until you're about to burst. You have to catch your own rolls as they fly through the air. The fried Okra, and other sides are all served by strolling wait staff, just signal for them to come over. The apple butter for the rolls tastes wonderful. One drawback was trying to find one's particular waiter, in order to get one's beverages refilled. read more

Like Cracker Barrel but good, think of it that way. So this place is delicious. Fantastic southern fare served in frying pans. Lots of gravy, lots of fried food, lots of people bringing around extra sides in cauldrons, lots of awesomeness. People were very friendly and after we ordered they came around with okra, fried potatoes, macaroni and tomato and of course we caught some rolls and had sorghum on them. Excellent. OH MY GOODNESS! can we say HUGE portions!? it's one of those places you will only find in the midwest. i think there are a couple outside of missouri.... but you definitely will NOT find this kind of a restaurant on the westcoast. if there is, someone please tell me where! It's totally the down-home type - the food, the decor, the people! It's home of the "Throwed rolls". They actually throw rolls at you!
