Lambert's provides a varied menu and they have the pass around including macaroni and tomatoes, fried potatoes and onions, black-eyed peas, fried okra, and of course the hot rolls and apple butter. I am in town visiting my mom. We have always made the 25 mile drive to Lambert's. We went today around 5 pm. We both ordered fried catfish. Mom had turnip greens and candied yams. I had turnip greens and beets. We had to ask for vinegar for the turnip greens. Then we waited on rolls, we finally had to ask for a roll. We both ate most of our food, then the molasses and apple butter came around. Mom's candied yams tasted like they were boiled not candied. Fish was ok, but not good enough to go back. We used to look forward to going there, not sure we will go back. I do not know if it was an off night or bad time or what. But in the past the restaurant was busier and we received the rolls, pass arounds and accompanying spreads in a more timely manner. read more

It's just not my thing. It's all intentionally excessive instead of purposely good. Nothing l had would qualify as anything more than just fair. It's obviously all pre cooked and held prior to serving. I had Country Fried Steak with mashed potatoes, corn, and white beans. Everything on my plate was served lukewarm. I hated the cafeteria plateware and the whole fuck you vibe. The staff were segregated by who could do what for you. Some tiny man took our drink orders and delivered them but couldn't get us boxes. Only our "server" could do that , wtf? I got the feeling of "hurry up and make room for the other assholes waiting in line" from every person and sign in the place. The best thing I had was a fresh potatoes and onion casserole a lady was serving table side. The fried okra was also pretty good when I got it from the roaming food folks. I'm trying really hard to be positive. I did have a good time with our party of 40 but I'm here for the food ultimately. The strange service only amplified the bad food. The whole throwing rolls is funny and all, but they aren't even really good either. There is only margarine on the table. Boo! I did enjoy watching my kid snatch the rolls out of the air. We stop here every summer on our way up north from Texas. We loved it at first, but the last 2 years we have gone, the food quality has gone down and the prices have gone up. I know that's the story everywhere, but when you have to wait an hour no matter what time or day you go, the food should be good! It's just average. Also, the teenagers they have waiting tables do not come to refill your drinks or check if you need anything. We've had good adult waiters in the past, but now it's almost all teenager waitstaff and they are just not quite as good. read more

So much food! Yes, they throw the rolls. Or they will hand them to you as well. I ordered the chicken salad. Two gigantic scoops on lettuce topped with sliced tomatoes. Served with crackers. It tastes like homemade! Really delicious. Like most of the meals, it came with 2 sides. I got green beans and turnip greens. Both tasted exactly like the food my Tennessee mom used to make. Hubby got grilled chicken breast with Cole slaw and potato salad. It was like a picnic! We got a huge cinnamon roll to go. The full tray looked amazing. Our favorite of the"bring arounds" were the fried potatoes. We left absolutely stuffed. We got here around 11:00 a.m. on Monday morning. No wait, seated promptly. No drink refills required because of the whopper size cups. We will gladly stop again if our travels bring through Sikeston again. read more

Okay. So I struggled providing 4 stars for this establishment. You will see why below... Everyone always raves about this place so when I had an opportunity to drive here (2.5 hour drive) with others I went ahead and thought I would embark on the journey. First, we arrived and were quoted a 90 minute wait. To my surprise, we only waiting roughly 45 minutes - what a delight! When we arrived to our table, we waiting roughly 20 minutes before we were even greeted. This was very annoying and frustrating. I believe the only reason why someone finally came over after 20 minutes was because we kept eyeing a neighboring server. I had the fried chicken, someone else had the chicken strips and someone else the chicken and dumplings (stated to be a staple here, along with the fried chicken). In my my opinion, the food was very underwhelming; very bland. The food was "decent" - mediocre at best. The fried chicken literally had no flavor. It was juicy so that's a plus. The chicken and dumplings were good. The green beans were amazing. I'm told the sweet potatoes were also delicious. The banana pudding was one of my favorites. Very good and a welcomed desert after an underwhelming entree. Of course, the dinner rolls are on point and fun to try and catch to boot!! In the end, I'm happy I made the trek to experience this place. However, very doubtful I will be back unless I'm itching for another dinner full of bland yet reasonably priced food. Why 4 stars? Because as I looked around, people were having a great time. And, although I feel a 3 Star rating is more reasonable after my first experience, I will choke a star up due to "bad luck". read more

Do you like a full plate and a full belly? Lambert's is the place. It wasn't that crowded when we visited but according to staff it is rare to walk right in on a Friday night. The quality was good and the staff was very polite. A few pointers for first timers. Be aware that they will throw bread to folks who want it so look left and right before standing up suddenly or you might take a roll to the face. Your entrée and sides are in addition to the rolls and other "passarounds" that come default with your meal experience. tomato & macaroni, black eyed peas, potatoes & onions and fried okra will be brought by the table. The staff will bring a massive cup for you to drink from so they don't have to come back so often for refills. Come hungry because you will probably have leftovers leaving with you. read more

Great midwestern food. Line was 20 people deep at 1030am on a Tuesday. Open an fun decor. I had chicken and noodles. Entree and sides were fantastic! Companion had chicken fingers. I hadn't been to Lambert's (until recently) since I was a small kid and guess what?! Not a single thing has changed. I wonder if they'll ever update this place. Eventually the folksy, rustic "charm" will run its course and the grey hairs won't travel to eat anymore and there isn't an appeal to the younger generations. Or maybe it already has. I remember when I was kid eating here that lines were out the door and around the building. Well, we went on a Saturday, got there at just after noon a group of six and walked right in. The place was more than half empty. Now the food, its casual southern style food and nothing to write home about except the massive portions that are sickeningly wasteful. They should update their menu and seasoning a little bit to not be so bland. Focus more on the taste rather than the portion size and they'd be better off. I went here by the request of a friend wanting to visit for her birthday. That's the only thing that got me there and the only thing that would get me back. This is my 64oz cup of tea. read more

On a trip to see relatives in Houston, a stop in Sikeston, Missouri since we aren't spring chickens anymore and a 19 hour drive just isn't going to cut it. I am here to tell you we are SO glad we did! On a recommendation from Cortes, our Best Western Clerk, we had carry out from Lambert's. I was skeptical about a "family diner," but he said they had some southern favorites like deep fried okra, black eyed peas, and turnip greens so I thought what the hey. First, you have to believe this place to see it. It's a family owned restaurant that consumes a full block for parking and the gigantic building itself and they need every bit of that space. Just try finding a parking spot! There is a que to get a table (kinda glad we had carry out!) and I can see why: it is like mom's homemade cooking on steroids! oh and did I mention they throw the dinner rolls atcha? Yep. And they are every bit worth catching! We had the country fried steak with milk gravy, mashed potatoes and turnip greens and cornbread as my two sides. It is a LOT of food (saved us money for breakfast AND lunch the next day!) but WAIT! You also get "pass around" sides too! SAY WHAT? Yes, some Mac n tomatoes, black eyed peas, fried potatoes with onion, Cold baked beans, AND fried okra! And let me tell you, it's amazing! Our other dinner was BBQ ribs, potato salad, and BBQ beans. The ribs weren't "fall off the bone," but were definitely tender. The BBQ beans were AMAZING! Oh, and did I mention how nice the staff was? Real country hospitality! Never again! Had seen Lamberts on one of those food shows on TV - looked fun. We were seated right away, but they were still busy. We were seated in a half booth, half chair table at the end of an aisle. The chairs were in traffic, so me and hubby decided to both seat on bench booth seat. Waitress came quickly, offered drinks. We ordered iced tea, she was back quickly - but the plastic, disgusting, super sized mug grossed me out! I looked around, seems that is how they've decided drinks should be served! Since hubby was looking forward to the 'experience' I decided not to make it an issue - I guess it was clean. I asked the waitress what she recommended, she looked at me strangely, as if it was a stupid question. She did come up with a suggestion or two, but it was apparent she was busy and wanted to get our order and go. I didn't say it was our first time, so I guess it's on me that we just sat there waiting for something to happen. People with bowls of food walked by us several times, but we had no idea how things worked. They all just walked by us! We continued to wait. Pretty soon our dinner was served, still no bread offered or thrown. We asked when we'd get bread. She said when you see the guy with the cart, wave, he'll throw you some, or I can get it. Before we could answer she was gone. So to get bread I had to keep turning around to see if the bread guy was there. Instead of enjoying a 'fun' meal I was on watch for a bread guy! Finally he came, we had had our food for ten minutes, now I'm waving in competition with other dinners to get his attention. He finally turned my way! I waved, he over threw and the bread bounced off the table across from us onto the floor! I just sat down- no bread is worth it! The bread guy, to his credit, did walk over and give me a piece. To his discredit, he walked off not offering one to my husband! (I shared mine with him.) The food was nothing special - my hubby said the kraut and sausage was just bad! The portions were generous so I shared some of my fried shrimp (which was fried with fried chicken type batter). We were done, not having been offered any of the 'bowl' extras that staff were offering - because no on offered, or they walked by so fast we couldn't get their attention. That was UNTIL we were finished!! Then they seemed to be coming out of the woodwork offering samples! Dining experience was a total miss! We'll never be back! And I know with all the positive reviews (whether earned or not) will out weight this review - but maybe one of their managers or staff will read this review and hopefully take it to heart and make improvements! First suggested improvement would be to ask customers if they are first timers! If so, give them the rules on how things happen! 2nd suggested! The food portions are massive and usually they're unlimited! Depending on what you order, you can get refills on certain selections on your plate! Of course, the rolls are unlimited and they're hurled across the restaurant! This is truly such a unique feature about Lambert's. Your cold drinks come in huge insulated mugs. Then while waiting for your your order they go table to table with food in pots and keep serving you. I was full by the time my order came. Fun place, great food and service. My son & husband ordered the fried chicken, they said it was bland. So I don't recommend that. Hubby said he wished he would have stuck to the chopped steak. He liked that when we came through a few years ago. My oldest son ordered the fried catfish, and he loved it. Side note, the cornbread is very dry & not very sweet.
