Was out for a Wednesday night concert at The Newport and remembered this authentic Chinese place was literally right around the corner. Knowing I didn't want anything too heavy, went for their MaPo Tofu extra spicy. Lovely bowl of ultra silky soft tofu with a soupy thick mala pepper sauce, I ate it with a spoon. Something I've not experienced in this dish are tender cubes of beef brisket. Odd but hey it worked! Black vinegar and homemade hot oil all-you-can-pour at each table was handy Dine-in is teeny tiny, like a street stall you'd find somewhere in China. This is in right on campus so prepare to park and walk. Also if you go during prime times like during breaks between classes it will be packed, we made that mistake. The inside is definitely worn and dated. The food took a minute but they were very busy. When we arrived the seating was full. Luckily by the time our food was done a seat had opened up. We got fried dumplings (8.5/10) the filling was very good but no sauce, steamed pork bun (8/10) they were huge almost as big as my head, pork belly noodles (9.2/10) and spicy beef noodle soup (7/10) the pork was a bit tougher than I wanted for this dish. I'm unsure the difference between the noodle and the soup dishes because they appeared to have same veggies and broth. The service was super sweet, fast and helpful! A tiny shop right on south campus that is a popular spot for quick chinese food. I was excited to see 榨 菜肉丝 面 (Mustard & Shredded Pork Noodle Soup) on the menu because i remember having it a few times when I was a kid during a trip to Hong Kong. A very pleasant, hole in the wall surprise right next to OSU campus. Its a very tiny space but as we're all in quarantine I just ordered and picked up the food. I took it home and tried to make it more presentable for pictures just so people don't get turned off by plasticware, not that my dishes are that much nicer. Anyways, onto the food. If you're craving a traditional Chinese beef noodle soup, this has been the best I've found in Columbus so far. The soup is excellent and has a great depth of flavor. There's a good amount of spice too, though personally I can always use more spice. The noodles aren't house made but compliment the soup very well. The biggest downfall is probably the beef itself. I'm used to having bigger chunks of tender, slow braised brisket but here they give smaller slices of beef. The beef is still tender but just doesn't have that same quality of proper chunks of brisket. The biggest surprise was probably that they have black sesame filled mochi in sweet rice wine soup. Its one of my favorite Asian desserts and definitely not something I expected to find in Columbus. If you're looking for a good, warm dessert and willing to try something a little different, go for their dessert! read more

Wow wow wow!! What a treat it was to try this place on christmas! Our christmas plans changed last minute (as did most people's this year I think). This was NOT what I was expecting when thinking we'd be ordering takeout chinese on Christmas. I found it on ubereats and it was actually under a different name (Chinese Beef Noodle Soup) so just FYI if you see that instead! It's a restaurant right on ohio state campus (E 12th). Everything was DELICIOUS and very authentic. I am Chinese and I was really impressed by the steamed bun and steamed dumplings. I also loved the scallion pancake. The lo mein was also really nice. Usually lo mein tastes solely like soy sauce but this one had almost a complexity to it lol. I'll definitely order this again and recommend to anyone who is craving Chinese. I'm always looking for a new spot to order brothy soup. There's nothing more comforting than a bowl of noodle soup. Have a cold, hangover or sinus issues? Soup is the answer. Especially soups that have a bone broth base. It's science and an old wives' tale I swear by. I ordered the pork and leek dumplings and pork rib noodle soup. Great flavors, but my only minor gripe is the broth to noodle ratio. Definitely a lot more noodles than broth. I may try to ask for extra broth, but I ended up making peanut noodles with the extra I had. I was trying to order takeout and pick up through yelp/Grubhub and I noticed it was taking a while for the status to change. I called the business and they apologized and had my order ready in a few minutes. They were so nice and they gave me extra soy sauce with hot oil. Their hot oil is actually spicy. Not the normal medium spice you'd get with other Chinese takeout. Pro tip: wrap your hot oil to go container in a napkin to avoid spillage in your bag. read more

I ordered the braised beef noodle soup (not spicy) via DoorDash, and the broth is to die for! Soooo flavorful, I wish I had ordered extra broth. I did ask for an extra side of noodles which they gave me with no extra charge! It comes with bok choy, beef, and one half of an egg (I ordered an extra tea egg as well). The noodles are hand pulled and are tasty and chewy, they are so good! I can't believe I've just found out about this place, but I am going to be a regular customer now for sure. Really craving Lan Zhou lately and didn't realize I've never left a review! This is a small hole in the wall kind of restaurant, but it has a decent amount of seating inside and super delicious, authentic food. It's right behind High Street, a quick walk from the Ohio Union, and always full of international students, which is always a promising sign for a restaurant. The owner is really friendly and inviting, whether you're familiar with the food or not! It's great to have any time of year, but I especially recommend their signature beef noodle soup during this cold weather. read more

Partly because the proprietors are really nice down-to-earth people (it's a family operation, husband and wife and their son), mostly because the food is excellent, particularly any dish that uses their housemade noodles. See my previous review for more information. In the age of COVID-19, you can order online through one of the delivery apps (Postmates, Grubhub, Doordash, Ubereats) if convenience is your thing. If you want to keep more money in the hands of the proprietors, you'll need to expend a little more effort: call them and order off the menus posted to Yelp, or one of the apps, and then go pick it up in person. If you request it, they'll happily deliver it to you curbside, so you don't have to enter the restaurant. Just bring exact change. read more

My family and I (Chinese) got the spicy version of the Braised Beef Noodle Soup, scallion oil and minced pork mixed noodle, and the spicy eggplant with shredded pork rice dish. It's cooked fast and well for either dine in or takeout and everything I've had is fantastic. The steamed buns are definitely a highlight but everything is great. I've yet to have their famed Beef Noodle Soup, but every time I've ordered here it has never disappointed. The portions are fair (probably more then one serving size for most items). It seems to be cheaper then most Chinese places in Columbus and always seems hot and fresh. Delivery or takeout, it has yet to disappoint me. I do wish it was in an easier area (i.e. if it had parking lot like Joy's Village, or had confortable dine in), but beggars can't be choosers. There is no General Tso's chicken, sweet and sour chicken, War Su gai or any of those familiar sounding dishes at CBNS. The menu centers around handmade noodles in Chinese soups and dishes. Boy are they freaking good. From the first bite, you know this place stands out from the rest of the Asian dining spots. That's what keeps me coming back. It's small. 3 tables and 2 counters. Usually filled with mostly Asian students from OSU campus across the street. It's busy. They also have a steady on line ordering business. But they handle it all pretty well. From 2 to 4 there is a lull and a good time to come. John works the counter while a pair of elderly folks work the small kitchen. It can get smokey in here, from the kitchen to the steaming bowls. Sometimes they have to prop the door open for ventilation. As for the dishes.....don't limit yourself. I suggest trying whatever may interest you. The Chinese beef and noodle soup is probably the safest for first timers. The beef broth is outstanding. Rich and flavorful. Tender thin slices of beef with Bok choy and egg added. The level of "spicy" has been toned down over the years. (so have the size of the bowls ). They have what seems like homemade chiIi oil on the tables now. Caution: Add a little at a time. The seafood soup is pretty popular, but don't expect fresh seafood, it is less than $10 after all and the broth makes up for it. I really enjoy the eggplant noodle mix. Chinese eggplant. Cut and fried right. None of that sweet syrupy garlic sauce on it. No big chunks of onion either. Instead nice cuts of bok choy, green peppers and carrots. Pork is included but you can have it made without. It shines on its own. Oh, and the standard egg rolls.... better than average. You can taste the pork along with cabbage and they haven't been sitting under some heating lamp. So many great choices. Sometimes it's nice to try a new place, but it's even better coming back to a place you know is consistently spot on------that would be Chinese Beef Noodle Soup. *during Christmas and summer break they may be closed from 2 to 4 weeks. I had high hopes for this place, but left a bit underwhelmed. Yes, the place is tiny and has limited seating. A thin curtain separates the kitchen from the dining area and the drink fridge also houses some of the kitchen supplies. All that being said, the hand-made noodle bowl photos looked so great, I had to try. I got the seafood noodle soup and while the noodles were yummy, the broth wasn't super flavorful and there wasn't much seafood. With that being said, I will say the dumplings are good. We ordered the pork and mushroom dumpling and the dumpling skin was thin, not to thin. It had a nice chew and the pork and mushroom paired very nicely. We ordered the Dan Dan noodles. I know! I should have gone with the signature dish the beef noodle soup. However, I wanted something spicy and dry. It was not good in my opinion. The minced meat the sauce was to salty. I also expected the noodles to be spicy, but it wasn't. I wouldn't recommend the Dan Dan noodle. The golden fried rice is just spam fried rice. If you like spam, then you would enjoy this. Mmmm. Parking, yes, is a bit of an issue. We happened to be at the Gateway, thus parked in their garage and walked down after the show. Most of the lunch crowd was gone, so we were able to get a table and not feel cramped. The food was, well, DELICIOUS! So many dishes offered. I ordered straight from the Yelp pics. Appetizer? Sure. Main? You bet! Richard P's many pics caught my attention. Looked fantastic, so I followed suit. Picked their cold appetizer salad, which is sliced carrots, cucumber and mushrooms tossed in sesame oil. Holla!! Wonderful sesame oil! A different taste then I was expecting, and my taste buds really enjoyed the change-up! The salad is not big - on a small plate, but it wets your appetite perfectly and satiated my tummy till the noodle bowl came (which was darn fast!). Homemade noodles with pork and scallion oil was my filler dish. Yep, I'm in love. No, really. I'm wondering who I have to bribe to get this dish brought to me for lunch every day? That dish also was a new flavor profile for me. An almost salty-ness? Crap, I can't find the write words to describe it. Just, trust me. Trust me and go buy the damn dish for yourself. And, ps, the portions are high, so you'll have plenty of leftovers. Note to readers: I tried a few spoonfuls of the beef noodle soup. I was impressed with the broth! Very flavorful.
