This was my first time at Huong Vietnamese Restaurant, and what first caught my attention was their huge selection of dishes. I don't think I've ever been to a Vietnamese restaurant with so many options! The moment I saw the menu, I told my boyfriend, "This is where we're eating today." And I'm so glad I made that decision. The moment we stepped inside, we already had a feeling we picked the right place. The old-school interior, the '70s and '80s music playing in the background, and the overall vibe just made me think, "Yeah, this place is going to be good." We ordered the gỏi đu đủ tôm thịt (green papaya salad with shrimp and pork), bánh bột lọc (tapioca dumplings), bánh mì thịt heo (grilled pork bánh mì), phở tái sườn bò (beef noodle soup with rare steak and beef ribs), and phở đặc biệt (beef pho combo). For the drink, we ordered iced vietnames coffee. The green papaya salad wasn't too fishy from the fish sauce, and I really enjoyed the subtle sweetness and how light and refreshing it tasted. The bánh bột lọc was a 10/10 for me. The dipping sauce and fried onions made it even better. It just disappeared into my mouth! I could've easily eaten more. When we ordered the bánh mì, we didn't really read the description or realize how big it would be. When it came out, we were shocked by the size! I also liked that the vegetables were served on the side, so we could add as much or as little as we wanted. It tasted amazing, and we enjoyed every bite. We actually ordered so many appetizers because we thought the pho portions were going to be small. Based on the reference photos and the price, we weren't expecting the bowls to be that big. But when the pho came out, we were shocked. The bowls were huge! We definitely underestimated the portion sizes here. One thing I noticed about the pho was that it tasted a little different from what I'm used to. The broth was much more herbal and aromatic, with a gentler taste rather than that strong, pungent hit on the tongue. It made me wonder if this is closer to what traditional Vietnamese pho is supposed to taste like. Just a heads-up, you pay at the counter when you're done eating rather than waiting for the server to bring the check. On our way out, we also grabbed a steamed rice cake to take home. Definitely try one if you see them because they're so good! I actually think they taste even better at room temperature rather than heated up. Everything we ordered came in such generous portions, especially for the price. Nothing tasted overly salty or overpowering, which I really appreciated. Everything tasted fresh, and I was genuinely impressed by the quality, portions, and value. I'm so glad we decided to try this place. The service is efficient but friendly, and the lady at the counter helped me with the menu and was more than accommodating with my customizations. My takeout order arrived quickly and both the spring rolls and the banh mi traveled really well. The packaging of the food was done with a lot of care, which I always appreciate. Everything tasted good - nothing outstanding but definitely not bad. Simply average. Service was fast and efficient, definitely a very authentic experience with the wait staff yelling at each other across the restaurant and one waitress even carrying her baby in a carrier while serving. We drove up here for lunch after a very long night out. It was moderately busy with a super super nice staff. I got my usual orders for any pho spot which are spring rolls, crispy egg rolls, a classic beef pho and a side of grilled pork. Usually, most pho spots taste pretty similar but this one had such a flavorful broth that completely replenished any fatigue and drowsiness I had. I also got the chicken stock pho which gave a fresh new meaning to pho. The grilled pork was also a great complimentary seasoned piece to my meal and I was really glad I ordered it. Something I did not order that I was a little curious about was their bahn mi - it came larger than a Subway footlong with a bread that looked perfectly toasty! We came here because we were looking for a place that sold sticky rice with pork wrapped in a banana leaf (Banh Tet). They had those here! We decided to have lunch as a family of 6 (4 adults, 2 children.) 1. The food tasted okay, but with very little portion. I ordered a pork chop plate, which turned out to be sliced pork over rice instead. I also ordered noodles (only) for my kids and they gave us noodles with steak that was $3 extra and my kids did not even touch the steak. 2. It felt like we were being rushed to finishing our food because they came over clean up our table almost half way into finishing our meals. 3. My husband went to go pay the bill and the gentleman that was taking his payment told him his total bill was $108 with a 20% service fee for a party of 6. Fine! Then he chose to pay with a credit card, he was told it is going to be an additional $6 fee for using card. $6! That's a little hefty don't you think?? Final straw was the gentleman automatically charged my husband an 18% gratuity on top of those fees causing our total bill to be close to $150. My husband obviously made a complaint because was not told about the gratuity. Service fee was disclosed on their menu, fine! He was able to get a refund for the gratuity part; however, all and all it made our experience terrible, thus we will not be returning back here. read more

Different but not bad. I ordered fried Eggrolls, papaya salad with beef jerky, and steak and meatball phó. The Eggrolls were great. The papaya salad was something new for me. I have never had it with a light, clean garlic flavor with a little sweetness. It tasted great. The phó broth was spot on for what I want in a broth. Light, fatty and not overly seasoned. We were visiting Columbus and stopped by here for lunch. The food was good with a generous serving size!! We got the grilled beef banh mi, beef & shrimp rice vermicelli noodle salad, and egg rolls. Egg rolls were good--pretty standard/average. The banh mi came with the beef and pate on the bread & veggies on the side to assemble yourself. My partner didn't mind since he could add what he just wanted to. The rice vermicelli noodle salad/bun is pretty standard. However, the grilled beef in both dishes was star of the show & our favorite bite. It was delicious and had a nice char!! Fun throwback music playing on the TV. FYI, you write down your order yourself. Some might not like that but we didn't mind (basically the non-electronic version of ordering on a tablet lol)--especially for a good and inexpensive spot! I was told by someone who backpacked through Vietnam that this was one of the few restaurants that had the same exact flavors he had in Vietnam. Such high praise! The menu is extensive! So many options! My friend and I grabbed takeout menus so that we can come back next time. I stuck with pho with rare steak, while my friend got bun bo hue. Came here on a Wednesday around 6:45 pm. We were worried because it was less than an hour till their closing time but the man didn't hesitate as he immediately greeted us and asked how many. We chose our items quickly so they didn't have to wait on us for too long. There were 3 other small groups inside but plenty of seating for more. The inside is very casual but intimate, with Asian decorations. The bathrooms are a little old but they do the job, and you need a code to get in so ask one of the people working for it. We decided to get the #1 cha gio (fried egg rolls), the #8 banh bot loc (steamed tapioca dumplings), #21 pho tai (rare beef steak), #39A banh exp tom thit (Vietnamese crepe), and #6B chao tom (shrimp cake wrapped sugar cane skewers). The food was ready within minutes. First were the appetizers and the entrees literally a moment later. Everything was piping hot and delicious. Service was quick and friendly and you pay at the counter when you're done (like most casual Vietnamese restaurants in America). Everything was way beyond reasonably priced, very cheap for good to amazing quality food! The cha Gio was flavorful and crispy, a bit small but for $4 totally worth the 3 pieces. The fish sauce dipping sauce was perfect and not watered down too much. The tapioca dumplings were good but nothing special, good to try and fun texture but I personally would want to try other things. The shrimp skewers were also good to try and fun to eat but nothing special for me. It was cool to eat the sugar cane skewers but they lost a lot of flavor and sweetness being roasted. The pho tai was perfectly sized for me and while the broth wasn't the most flavorful I've ever had, it still hit the spot and was super cheap. There was also a good noodle to broth ratio and came with plenty of serranos, bean sprouts, basil, and lime. The banh xeo was delicious!! This was the best thing I tried (my sister came here before and got this again because it was so good) and is definitely a must try. You can cut up pieces of the crepe and place it in a piece of lettuce, then add bean sprouts, peppers, and basil and dunk in the large fish sauce with pickled veggies. The crepe is extremely crispy and has such a great texture, while the dipping sauce adds a bunch of flavor. This convinced me to try getting this at every Vietnamese restaurant I can from here on out to compare (I do this was pho tai already). Would 100% come back again. Huong Vietnamese has been a staple for years since I moved here. I bring all my friends here! So much good food. It gets so so busy at lunch so you might have to wait a bit to get a seat! So me and my friend chilled in the car until we saw people leave. Once we came back we were seated immediately. The space is so vintage and rich. I love that they play pop elevator music and have church brown panels on the walls. It make me feel at home. With a large mural of water, boats and crabs in the art. We got a lil notepad to order our meal. And I choose the Pho Tai Bo Vien. Rare steak and beef meat ball with rice noodles and a savory beef broth. Huong's has been my favorite Vietnamese spot for a very long time. I have been coming here since 2015 and it's been just as amazing every single time. They staff are friendly, the restaurant itself is quint but ideal for just cozying in and enjoying your food. They have a large menu and there is truly something for everyone. It was my husbands first time trying my Vietnamese so we ordered regular spring rolls with shrimp, spring rolls without shrimp, beef pho, tofu bahn mi, and the pork and rice dish. We finished with an iced Vietnamese coffee. Everything was so amazing but truly I think their pho is the best in Columbus. It's full of flavor and depth and perfect for the winter time. Stopped in for lunch with my brother on a Saturday. It's a good sized restaurant with plenty of seating. We ordered the Bun Mang Moc noodle soup, the Banh Xeo, and an order of sugarcane shrimp. The sugarcane shrimp were juicy and delicious. The Bun Mang Moc was so unique! Funky and different but in the best way. The banh xeo was the highlight for us--probably the crispiest I've ever had. A bit greasy but we didn't mind. The service was quick and we saw lots of people coming in to pick up take-out orders. They have plenty of specials on the menu--dishes I've never gotten a chance to try at other Vietnamese spots. Lots of vegetarian options too! I'm really looking forward to going back soon! read more

Another stunner in a strip mall. It does not look like much from the outside, but don't let that fool you. The food makes up for it. I also loved the 70s decor and musical selections. It is not every day that you get to eat banh mi while listening to the Bee Gees. They give you paper checks and you fill out your food order yourself. Then they take the slips and you wait for the magic to happen. They roll the food out on a trolley cart. Very efficient. The bill gets paid at the counter in the lobby. When they brought us a box for leftovers they even included a cup of fresh peanut sauce to take home. Nice touch. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. We noticed the sign said closed at 7:30, so we went in. They seated us and we ordered spring rolls and pho. The service was great, the food was great, everything was great! We were clearly the last ones there, but never rushed. We paid and I forgot my credit card there. I called once I got to the hotel, but no one picked up. Write your orders on a piece of paper and give it to the server, and they bring out your food on a little cart! I just realized how long I haven't been back to Huong. The classic mom & pop Vietnamese Restaurant in Columbus. Filled with homey vibe and authentic food. I got a bowl of Bun Bo Hue with an order of Spring Rolls. Their version of Bun Bo Hue is more mild and subtle. And I can still taste the umami flavor as I sipping on the broth. Always come with variety meat such as Vietnamese pork sausage, beef brisket and my favorite pork knuckles. The pair of Spring Rolls is big. Loaded with lettuce, basil, pork and shrimp. To top this off, don't forget to dip it into the yummy peanut sauce. Outside from the food, my favorite part is the Vietnamese-style iced phin coffee. Love seeing the coffee drip through the Vietnamese coffee dripper. The coffee get drip to a cup that prefill with condense milk. Stir well and pour the coffee over the cup of ice. I always come here expecting it to be something and I always leave rather disappointed. Mainly because of the banh mi, everything comes separately, and it's so long. Maybe I'm the outlier here but when I get a banh mi, I want it to be its regular size, I want the crunchy yet fluffiness of a viet banh mi with its crunchy veggies. I'd heard rave reviews about this Vietnamese restaurant so I put it on my November excited to try list. It was GREAT. Note they close early at 7:30 pm!!! We arrived at 7:05 and were told they weren't taking dine in customers anymore (7 pm is their final seating) but I did my best plea. We got sat and ordered quickly. It's a mom and pop shop in a strip mall with a kitschy interior and stapled paper menu. There was a full Christmas display in my peripheral as well as Christmas music blasting while we ate delicious noodles and bahn mi and all was right in the world. We started with the steamed tapioca dumplings and these are great. It's such a comforting dish. The pho had delicious broth and the softest thin noodles. I enjoyed the beef broth a bit more than the chicken broth, but just personal preference. The bahn mi was our favorite item though. The grilled pork is flavorful and I enjoyed the byob (build your own bahn mi lol) concept and it's under $11 for the footlong. Fantastic flavors at an excellent value... $42 for the 4 dishes, a soda, and a mooncake that I just had to grab on the way out. The restaurant itself is unassuming, almost hidden in a strip mall. I've only ever gotten takeout but staff seem friendly. Food wise, I've tried their banh mi, pho, and the banh cuon (weekend special). Banh cuon was great and usually not commonly offered in Vietnamese restaurants. The pho and banh mi were alright, nothing super special to me and not overly memorable. Not that it was bad by any means but just very on par. Overall, I think there's a lot of options here and nothing on the menu has been bad thus far. Definitlely a solid Viet restaurant! read more
