Being local we finally tried Lana for the first time. We sat outside with plenty of heat lamps making it very comfortable and away from the noisier inside. From the moment we arrived everyone was exceptionally friendly. Three of us split burrata and Caesar salads, a burger, pizza and crab cakes. Everything was delicious and service was well- paced. Especially liked the salads-very high quality. Would have liked some crackers or bread with the burrata salad and crab cakes. The wine list was better than most and offered a good variety. Among the many new restaurants in Solana Beach, Lana was one of the most enjoyable. If there's a negative it's that it's a bit expensive and it adds up. Our meal cost $200 including tip. Looking forward to returning, but not affordable to do weekly. read more

Although Lana's has been around for about 8 months, this was my first visit--and it happened to be with a group of 6. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the photos you see online accurately capture both the ambiance and the quality of the food. The space strikes a balance between lively and inviting, setting the tone for a memorable dining experience. Lana's is undeniably popular, and the energy reflects that. Despite the crowd, we were greeted warmly and seated within a reasonable timeframe relative to our reservation. Once settled, we had ample opportunity to explore the menu and start with drinks. The beverage selection is impressively broad, offering something for everyone, including thoughtful non-alcoholic options. That said, the wait time for our drinks was noticeably longer than expected, a point that would echo later in the evening. When the drinks did arrive, however, they were expertly crafted and well worth the wait. We began with a selection of appetizers: Parker House rolls with artisan butter, Lana's chopped salad, and spicy tuna tartare. Each dish stood out in its own way, fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The spicy tuna tartare, in particular, was a standout and something I would absolutely order again. Our entrées were ordered shortly before the appetizers arrived. Even with a relaxed pace enjoying the starters, the wait for the main courses stretched longer than anticipated...long enough for the manager to personally visit our table and offer a sincere apology. While the delay was notable, it was ultimately overshadowed by the quality of the food once it arrived. I opted for the Irodori Wagyu, served with a rich, flavorful Jus. Though the portion leaned smaller than expected, the preparation was impeccable, perfectly cooked and deeply satisfying. Other highlights at the table included the braised short rib and the tagliatelle, both of which received high praise for their depth of flavor and execution. Overall, Lana's delivers an exceptional culinary experience. The kitchen clearly takes pride in crafting distinctive, high-quality dishes, and the staff demonstrates a genuine commitment to hospitality. Importantly, when service falls short of their standards, they make a concerted effort to acknowledge and correct it, going beyond words to ensure guests feel valued. 4th time at Lana, another nice meal with some highs and some weaker parts. First, I still love this patio. And the servers on each of our last 3 visits have been great. We had Isabelle this time, who was super nice - and Emily who was not even our own server checked on us a few times. (she remembered she had been our server last time, and didn't even realize I'd given her love on Yelp for being awesome). So that makes a person feel warm and welcome! FOOD AND DRINKS: --I got the Piper No! cocktail. Very refreshing and tasty - not mindblowing and also not that strong. But I enjoyed it. 4/5 flavor --BREAD: they've switched over their AMAZING bread service to parker rolls. Maybe they're easier to make and they don't run out? We found them a little bland. I'm not sure if the butter was lemon butter? Anyway, these were ok, but I wouldn't order them again or dream of coming here to have them. Bring back the old (incredible) bread service if you can manage it! --APPS: My sweetie got the champagne butter lettuce, which is a nice little salad and a good value. I got the BEETS. It is a gorgeous presentation. However... the salad had not that much flavor or personality. The ingredients sound like a flavor bomb: Burrata, Blood Orange, Aged Balsamic, Micro Arugula, Cherry Tomatoes, Basil Pistou. Honestly, I tasted beets... and burrata. I love pistou and blood orange - but I didn't taste any of that. The manager circulated later and asked how everything was, and I told him that - and he took the initiative to take the beets off though I didn't ask. So that's a good sign. I hope they'll tweak the menu. We don't want food that just looks gorgeous but is boring! --ENTREES: Much more interesting here. I usually get the fish preparations which have been super tasty. I got the mushroom pappardelle this time, and was very pleased. The pasta was fresh and cooked perfectly - and the peas and asparagus were perfectly cooked. I normally am not a pea fan - but when you cook them like this, I happily eat them. CHEF ALERT: Interestingly, Chef Anthony Wells, who joined Chef Matt Martinez here in the fall with a lot of fanfare, is gone - as is Chef Matt. I love Chef Matt's cooking in particular and want to find where he is next. The chef in the kitchen now is the consulting chef from London that they first used to develop the menu. Hopefully he can bring back the bread service he opened with and get a little more comfortable with our produce and how to highlight it without leaving it unseasoned. A slice of heaven! Lana's upscale, casual decor seems just right for the north coast area of San Diego. It's lovely, and their happy hour fits right in. Two of us stopped in for happy hour which runs from Tue-Fri, and found a nice number of people already there. Not crowded, but the bar was almost full, and about a quarter of the tables filled at about 5 p.m. We shared a would mushroom pizza. This pizza had a nice crust that was crispy on the thinnest possible outside layer and soft on the inside. It's topped with mixed roasted wild mushrooms, 2 cheeses, olive oil, and shredded green onions-- just a few good quality ingredients that packed a fabulous flavor punch. I want to eat this every day! Almost forgot because I got carried away remembering that pizza! Their Old Fashioned was perfect, too. Very well made, and quite delicious. Amanda's service was outstanding. My friends and I came here for dinner the other night on a Friday and it was pretty busy even with the reservation. Definitely recommend making a reservation! There is plenty of free parking in the lot. We had to wait outside for about 15 minutes until we were seated. It was nice and cozy by the fire! The restaurant itself felt very cramped and like tables were too close together. It was hard to walk and get past people. The food was pretty good, but came out very slowly. Service was OK. I'd recommend trying if you're in the area. Food/drink review; Espresso martini: (4/5) Great flavor with a touch of cinnamon. Honey ginger chicken: (5/5) Honestly my favorite dish of the night. Soooo yummy! Great portion for sharing, but I definitely could've had this as my entree. Braised short rib: (4/5) Super tender and tasty. The inside was a little bit dry, but overall it was good. My third time dining at Lana. My first two visits were lovely -- great food, attentive service, and a really enjoyable atmosphere. That's actually why I chose it for my birthday dinner and recommended it to my group. Unfortunately, this most recent experience felt very different from prior visits and ended up being disappointing. Service felt unusually disjointed throughout the evening. Drinks arrived one at a time over an extended period, and all food -- including appetizers -- came out together at once rather than paced as expected. There were also several moments that felt awkward from a service perspective. On multiple occasions, our server would stand near the table for an extended period without saying anything, which made it unclear whether she was checking in, waiting to take an order, or needed something from us. We often found ourselves having to initiate the interaction. The food was also noticeably different from what I remembered. I'm not sure if something has changed, but dishes that had impressed me on previous visits felt fairly underwhelming this time around. I had spoken highly of Lana to my guests based on past experiences, so it was disappointing when the meal didn't live up to expectations. The restaurant also wasn't particularly busy, which made the difficulty in flagging down service more surprising. I'm leaving this review because my first two experiences were genuinely great, and I know Lana is capable of much better. Came in one night intending to only get dessert but was enticed to get a little savory snack as well. I really enjoyed the ambiance inside Lana. It used to be a CPK (which admittedly I loved and was sad when it left) but you would never know it because they really put a lot of work into the place to make it feel upscale, cozy, and trendy. One thing I didn't love though was that the table next to us was a little too close for comfort. It felt like we were constantly accidentally eavesdropping and vice versa. I know Lana was trying to maximize space but they have plenty of seating and I would have appreciated a little more space between tables. We ended up getting the fingerling potatoes and the Basque cheesecake. The potatoes were good, but I felt like they were a little dry and could have used more sauce and more salt. You did get a good sized portion though which I appreciated. The cheesecake was quite good, and I liked the berry coulis it came with. The service was a little slow, especially when we were trying to pay the check, but overall it was fine. The prices are also a bit steep, but I would need to have a full meal there to say whether or not I think the prices are fair for the quality of food. Lana has a really fun, lively vibe that makes it a great spot for a night out. The service was just okay. They were pretty busy and we didn't get a refill on water the entire time we were there. Service wasn't terrible, but nothing standout either. We tried a mix of dishes: the bread was amazing, the mushroom pizza was decent, the broccoli had great flavor but the sauce was way too salty, and the gnocchi was just okay. Overall, the food was fine but not particularly memorable. We hope to come back again and have a different experience. The biggest disappointment was the cocktails. Transformative! This restaurant had formerly been the neighborhood CPK for years. As a long-term Solana Beach resident, my family and I frequented CPK for years while my kids were growing up. Now that they've all grown up and left the area, it's fitting to recognize this restaurant's successful metamorphosis. It, too, has come of age, transforming into a vibrant and chic haven where adults can gather to dine and drink. It was packed for a Friday night. We had reservations for the bar seating at 7pm. Good thing we went there early. Apparently, we were informed by the 3 hostesses that " bar reservations" meant "first come first served". Fortunately, we nabbed two seats right in the middle of the bar. The full-service bar provided prompt, attentive service from its friendly and knowledgeable staff. We shared The Lana Chopped Salad and The Golden Spotted Baja SeaBass. The sea bass was delicate and savory, and the chopped salad had diverse layers of crunchy ingredients intertwined in a tasty subtle, not overpowering dressing. They have a nice selection of mocktails listed under 'Spirit Free'. I tried 'I've Come to the Right Place Then'. A Feragaia Scottish Zero Proof, lime and Ginger Beer mixture that was soothing and pleasurable. We've clearly found the right spot--the name of my mocktail shares the same sentiment! Super vibey and cute new addition to Solana Beach with an excellent happy hour (currently 4-5:30pm on weekdays)! Their chopped salad is *amazing* and the mushroom pizza was also quite good and both are/can be made gluten free! Their HH also includes shrimp spring rolls and a burger + beer combo (not GF) all of which my husband found fantastic. Service has also been quick and friendly the few times we have been in for HH. Excellent Happy Hour in Solana Beach! We were looking for a new Happy Hour on a Friday and found Lana on InKind. It's easy to locate on Historic 101 in the former CPK location. The Happy Hour menu had drink specials and seven food items. We were drawn to two items Spicy Tuna Tartare (5/5 $18HH) and Wild Mushroom Pizza (5/5 $19 HH) -- one of the best we've ever eaten. Of the Lana Cocktails, we each chose the Old Fashioned (5/5 $13 HH), which were excellent. Service was outstanding. The hostess greated us warmly and seated us away from the bar, which was standing room only. Our server was helpful and attentive. Drinks and food were delivered faster than we expected considering how busy Lana was at the time. The restaurant itself looks great with large windows on three sides. There's a large island bar near the front door, which was packed during Happy Hour. With a crowd and the hard surfaces, Lana is noisy -- downright loud -- which detracts from the overall enjoyment of Lana. All said, I'd give Lana **** 1/2 based on this experience. This place has phenomenal food! The quality, taste is worth the price. Which is fairly priced compared to other restaurants with this quality of food. First time I went the service was amazing but there was less people there. On a Tuesday night I expected it to be mellow but the entire restaurant was packed so unfortunately we had to chase down our waitress several times and it took forever to get our food and drinks. The manager Jackson was very kind and kept checking in to see if we were ok. I feel they may need more servers there for the service to be up to par with the rating I left. Very attentive, friendly, and kind. I felt super welcome and really enjoyed my experience that much more. She's amazing like 12/10 stars for her. Okay, the food. We got the Artisan bread: loved the rosemary bread and the pretzel rolls with that soft butter. Absolutely delicious. Carbs? We love her. Black Mission Fig Bruschetta: Not your traditional bruschetta. It's super yummy though because it has some sweetness from the fig and the balsamic but it's cut by the cream on top. I thought this was a refreshing take. Liked it a lot. Wild Mushroom Tagliatelle: I love hand cut pasta and this feels very fresh and awesome. As a mushroom lover, I loved the assortment of mushrooms on this one. I'd have liked a pinch more salt in mine but that's something you can always add. Better than the other way around. If you do not absolutely love mushrooms, don't get this because it's very mushroom forward. My friend doesn't love mushrooms so she did not have it. I personally loved it though. Housemate Ricotta Gnocchi: Lots of ricotta inside. Was soft. Lovely little dish. Comfort food for sure. Mocktails: I forgot to get a picture but we both got the Cedros cooler and it was super yummy. Cute little red drink with a lime. Refreshing. I love when restaurants have a spirit free section as someone who doesn't drink. It makes me feel fancy and welcome and not limited to just water or soda. Okay back to the vibes: this place was happening. The bar was busy and exciting from what I observed. Lana restaurant in Solana Beach is located off of Hwy 101 in a complex along with other businesses. This restaurant does NOT have coastal ocean views. Plenty of free parking. The hostesses were hospitable and accommodated my outdoor seating request with my furbaby in tow. Service from waiter Michael and the servers were attentive and helpful. However, I was specific on the sequence on which items to bring out; first yellowtail sashimi, then the pasta and lastly the pizza...sadly my specific request was NOT followed, quite the opposite. I believe the kitchen staff made this error. I noticed a large bar lounge with a lively crowd. The indoor dining was filled with diners. The outdoor patio was nice with awnings and an outdoor fireplace but too simplistic and could have had more green foliage to block views of the parking lot and the highway for more dining privacy. The menu is limited but does offer something for most diners, carnivores, pescatarians and vegans. I wanted to try several items but made the following selections to: Yellowtail sashimi, Wild mushrooms pizza and gnocchi. I had some trepidation but surprisingly, every dish was bewildering wonderful. After eating the yellowtail sashimi and gnocchi, both light I had two slices of the wild mushrooms pizza, which had a taste essence of truffles and the ricotta topping was an added plus. I got the Cedros Cooler mocktail, which needed a little more basil, and they were happy to add some! My friend opted for a spicy cocktail! We shared the prawn spring rolls, baked Mt. Tam, yellowtail sashimi, seabass ceviche, and the flat iron steak. Everything was delicious and very nicely plated. The steak came with a flavorful sauce and we added some carrots for our side item. Lana, short for "Solana", debuts its modern coastal American cuisine this week. Despite its beautiful interior design and promising menu, the food did not impress. We started with their California seabass ceviche at $21. This dish was bursting with citrus and herbal flavors. My biggest concern was the lack of tostada or chips, which is traditionally how ceviche is served. I had expressed this feedback with the owner and staff and appreciated their response. In addition, we tried the black mission fig bruschetta at $14. This dish comes with two small bruschettas topped with burrata, balsamic glaze, olive oil and figs. This classic recipe was simple and delightful. Slightly overpriced at $7 per bruschetta. This dish could have been elevated with an acidic finish such as fresh pomegranate seeds or pomegranate glaze. Lastly, we split the $29 wagyu beef burger. The burger itself was cooked perfectly. Pickles were on the side which is thoughtful. The aged cheddar was melted to perfection and the flavors of the wagyu and cheddar paired nicely with the jalapeño marmalade. I would certainly order this if I were to come back again. The french fries were good as well but could have been elevated with some truffle oil and finely grated parm and herbs. Overall, Lana has A LOT of potential and plenty of time to work out the kinks of their beautiful new location. The staff was attentive and friendly. This is one of those restaurants I can't help but think I'm getting ripped off. Poor value with a high price to portion ratio. Translating-same price for lesser quality and quantity. Yellowtail was fresh but so little for the price. Tuna tartar was accompanied by 3? Shrimp chips. We really enjoyed our experience at Lana. The ambience is perfect for a girls' night, a date night, a work dinner, or even a family meal; we found Lana stylish but still comfortable. My wife and I made a same day reservation at Lana on a Saturday, simply because it was near Belly Up where we were going to a show that night. When we arrived there were several people waiting for their tables, and we had to wait a bit past our reservation time, but nothing major, 5-10 minutes. My first impression was that the restaurant had a great atmosphere and the staff was friendly. I did worry that we'd have a hard time getting service, just because the restaurant was very busy and bustling. Our experience was fantastic. Our server was Violet, who was super cool, very friendly, and very on top of checking in on her tables. She had good suggestions for food and cocktails, and she made our dinner a standout experience. The food and drinks lived up to the service and ambiance, and everything we had was really good. I had their house special old fashioned and another bourbon cocktail that Violet suggested with a huge square ice cube. Both were amazing. We had a burger and fries, sashimi and a chicken salad and we loved, and finished, everything. We love Solana Beach in general and we'll definitely be back. read more

Came here on a Sunday evening with a group of 5 and we had a reservation. We were sat immediately and it filled up quickly so I definitely recommend a reservation! Our waiter was so kind and all the food came out quickly. We got fries for the table and I got the gnocchi! It was the best tasted so fresh! Definitely will be coming back! read more

Such an incredible experience! The atmosphere was very chill, music wasn't too loud and sitting outside was still very comfortable! The menu was delicious and thankfully there were two of us and we could split everything and really get a feel for the menu. Our waitress Violet was amazing and gave us her opinions about everything and helped guide us to a perfect meal. Can't wait to go back and try more!!!! read more

The food was delicious, our table ordered the Sea Bass, New York Steak and a couple sides of the Gnocchi. The Lana Chopped Salad was definitely my favorite dish of the night. The service was a little slow, but we went at 6pm on a Friday night, so the place was packed. All in all, I will be going back specifically for the salad next time for lunch! A cute new place with some growing pains with service. We started with the heirloom tomato salad and the Mission fig bruschetta which were tasty albeit tiny (my dad commented that there wasn't quite half a full tomato on the plate for the former dish). The hamachi crudo with its ponzu/yuzu sauce was a particular hit, perfectly seasoned although the salad it came with was a bit bland, not well dressed. We then had the veal meatballs and mushroom tagliatelle, both of which were incredibly flavorful and our favorites of the night. The pasta was al dente and with a ton of umami and just the right amount of sauce. The Baja Seabass was our least favorite - lacking texture and seasoning. We ended with the Basque cheesecake which was reasonable. Sadly, what missed the mark for us was the service. When we were seated, despite being a group of 5, were taken to a 4 top space and the hostess was flustered when we asked if they were planning on bringing an extra chair or if we were supposed to move the 2 top near by over. After being seated, we were given water which was spilled all over the table although the waitress did not notice and gave us a weird look when we cleaned it up with the table napkin and asked for another napkin. Additionally, no server came by for 20 minutes despite being seated at opening time and we had to flag someone down to ask who our server was. She said she did not know but was willing to do us a favor by taking down our drink order and find out who our server was (which never actually got answered).
