My friends had been talking about this place for a while, so we finally checked it out for happy hour on a weeknight. We got there just before the 6 PM cutoff, and our server was kind enough to still honor the happy hour pricing for us, which was much appreciated. They have a solid happy hour menu with $2 off draft beers, $6 tequila and Fireball shots, $9 wines, and taco specials for around $7-8. We ended up trying the tacos, but they were honestly pretty average and nothing particularly memorable. The ambiance was nice, and it's always enjoyable spending time in the Solana Beach area near Fletcher Cove. Parking was easy with a dedicated lot, and the drinks were solid. Overall, a good place to grab a drink during happy hour and hang out with friends. Wow, wow, wow! Can't thank the Pillbox manager/ main server (a strapping gentleman in a Pillbox shirt and ball cap) enough for helping me out of a jam. I'd grabbed the replacement car fob without the metal key cut and realized I locked myself out of the car after a great boogie session at Fletcher's Cove. When I explained he listened, found the right AAA number and dialed (had left my glasses in the trunk too so could see nothing) and just handed me his phone and said to let him know when I was set. In the meantime he got me ice water and offered me a seat inside or out. The outside porch was cool and shaded with extremely comfortable chairs. What a beautiful day and a beautiful person. AAA came in no time flat and of course got me sorted sharpish. In my fluster I didn't get his name but hoping to buy him a drink or treat when I'm there again. Top notch! This is the best spot. Food is so good and atmosphere so chill. Not a dive bar, but a casual beach bar with indoor and outdoor seating. A favorite spot with my riding buddies but also a spot to bring the wife or girlfriend. Great burgers, tacos, amazing fish and chips and more. read more

My husband and I came here on a Thursday night since we were in the area. We were able to find a parking spot in the parking area for the shopping strip. The place was busy but we were able to find a spot at the bar to order food. The bartender took our order and it came out in a reasonable amount of time. I ordered the beer battered fish and chips which were battered nicely and came with a small container of tartar sauce. My husband ordered the Shrimp Al Mezcal and he enjoyed it very much. Driven by this corner so many times and never noticed this little tavern tucked away at this busy intersection. Fortunately we decided to stop by after hiking nearby and wanting a snack. We found parking on the side streets in the back (probably not easy on a weekend since this is close to the beach). The menu is better than what you would expect for bar/tavern. We enjoyed a salad and a sandwich. They have a good craft beer menu that rotates as well with local selections. They have several TV screens so would make a good viewing place for the big game. It had tender chicken drenched in bbq sauce sitting on top of lettuce, corn, black beans, onions, and tortilla strips mixed with ranch. Initially the bbq sauce was overwhelming, but after mixing with the ranch it got tastier. Chicken was crazy tender, on some bites I thought I was eating canned tuna. It's nice that this is a sports bar, but they have some healthier options (The Pillbox Plate, Chicken Tortilla Soup, House Made Chili, Tuna Sandwich, BBQ Chicken Salad) Their potato skins are (10/10)- crisp on the outside and soft in the middle. And, all of their dipping sauces are so, so good. The ranch, avocado Caesar, BBQ and honey mustard are my favorites. Small space, but it's perfect to watch the game and get some good food. I do recommend bringing a sweater or jacket, the doors/windows are usually open and it can be pretty breezy. read more

This place was perfect and we will definitely be back.It was festive inside which I thought was great for a small place. Our waiter was super nice and patient. We had the Siracha ranch wings,sooooo good. Will be back to try the other flavors soon. I had the poke bowl, it had tons of fish and just the right amount of flavor, sauce and veggies. The husband had the Tri tip Philly sandwich, it was huge and also very good. (He was nice enough to share his fries with me, super yum and crunchy!). Came on a Saturday afternoon where they we short staffed and we were warned before ordering. Tuna melt is great! Burger was good, different seasoning but the fries were stellar! This place stays hoppin! And it is no wonder why, the food, the drinks, the amazing, friendly and laid back but attentive staff, the screens and the vibe are always on point. My boys love coming here and as my 9 yo says they have the world's best all day burrito! The best is a lunch on their patio (newly updated!) in the summer mid beach day, but also great for a winters night crowded in to a cozy booth. The food is great and a step or two above your regular pub or bar fare ( hello shrimp mezcal ).
